Dealing with a damp, musty, or recently flooded basement? Whether it’s post-storm cleanup or year-round humidity control, using the right drying fans and dehumidifiers can protect your home and prevent mold. In this video, we’ll walk you through how to properly dry out a basement and use a dehumidifier for long-term moisture control.

💡 Pro Tip: Start with high-volume air movers to circulate air, then run a dehumidifier non-stop until humidity drops below 50%.

⚠️ Safety Reminder: Always use grounded outlets, avoid running equipment near standing water, and check that filters and drains are clean before starting.

00:00Hi there, today we're going to look at drying, dehumidification and having a maybe after a
00:18heavy rainstorm you've got maybe some water leakage into the house and you've got a rug
00:23that's gotten saturated or you've got some water in a in a basement maybe even without a rug
00:32or possibly you got into some drywall work in your house in the humid weather where you want to get
00:40that that air dried out so the mud on your drywalling can get dried so it can get finished
00:47and painted or also when you clean your carpets and they're still damp and you want to dry them
00:55quickly particularly in offices or buildings where you're doing it yourself and you want to dry out
01:00that clean carpet quicker what you want to use for that purpose is a dehumidifier this is a commercial
01:08dehumidifier it just needs to be plugged in it has a drain hose on the back which is about 50 feet long
01:17with a pump that'll pump the water out of it as it as the container on the bottom fills up
01:23what happens on this machine is you put it into the room you start it it'll usually count down as
01:31a refrigerant unit is charging up you take off all this drain hose put it into a shower a drain it'll
01:39or outside within the 50 foot capacity of the length and then when you turn the dehumidifier on
01:46there's a container in the bottom which will fill up with water slowly just like any dehumidifier
01:52and then once it hits a float it'll pump the water out through the hose so you've got to remember that
01:59when the unit is running you don't move it around because there's going to be water in this tray in
02:03the bottom if you tip it you're going to dump the water out so set it up don't lay it down in
02:11transport if you can it's just like a refrigerator or anything if you do lay it down in transportation
02:16you're gonna have to stand it up and let it sit up for about half an hour before you use it
02:20it's good always usually to place it if it's a rectangular room on one side of the room
02:27and it will dry in the course the humid air and expel it out of the back now to help that process
02:35the fan is usually the thing that goes in conjunction with the dehumidifier
02:40now these are two types of fans the clamshell here is probably one of the most common been around for a
02:46long time can be used just as a fan for drying but the purpose of the fan and this shape is
02:54that you can put it in the corner of and lift up a corner of the rug and stick the nose of it
03:00underneath the rug and push the air underneath to get the air coming and moisture coming out of the rug
03:07or sitting it if you can't to lift it up put sit it up right on top and the air will flow over top of
03:13the rug and pull up the moisture out and when the moisture gets in the air that's the purpose of
03:20the dehumidifier to take the moisture out of the air and turn it into water of course and dispel the
03:26water so yes the dehumidifier can work on its own but it's far more efficient with a fan and if you
03:34have them on either sides of the room and create a vortex effect of the air then you're able to dry it
03:39out that much quicker and of course the more air movement you have maybe additional fans depends
03:45on the size of the room the quicker the drying process this is another type of fan called a jet
03:51fan now these can be used as the same purpose as that fan just to blow the air across uh has multiple
03:58speeds it's a little quieter you can turn it down if you're going to have them on running 24 7 at night
04:03as all these items can be running 24 7. it does take in a a rug that's fairly wet a few days to dry
04:10out but the other feature on this one is it can be tipped down and if you do have a very wet spot
04:16or maybe you only have one wet spot on the uh on the rug or the floor that needs to be dried this can
04:21dispel the air straight down to that area and it and all the air moves out so it gives you a concentrated
04:28effect of the uh the air they usually have three speeds and they had they can be hooked up in in
04:34series as well so just some options to be able to uh to dry the air for whatever purpose you have
04:42but these are certainly very good standard tools to use in your projects and we'll see you on the next video
