00:00Hi it's Larry and here's another session on another piece of equipment that is very widely
00:16used to grind concrete. Now a lot of us when we do work down in our basements do rec rooms and
00:23that we've taken out a wall possibly or possibly we've had a bad pour of concrete in the basement
00:28and we've got to even out the floor maybe take out a high spot where a wall was or maybe there's a
00:34bubble in the concrete floor and you want it smooth so that you can put down a another floor
00:40either engineered hardwood very common or any kind of tile work but you want to have a smooth hard
00:47surface. So this machine is fairly portable to take downstairs the wheels are on the back so that you
00:55can bump it down the stairs. The handle folds down with a handle here so two people could carry it
01:01from either end to take it down into the basement and what you're going to be grinding with is this
01:11kind of cutter on the bottom. It's a diamond blade and there's many types and configurations but this
01:20is a fairly common one. This machine can also be used with a different blade to take off blues and
01:26mastics off of floor as well and then you could possibly use this wheel to smooth out the concrete.
01:33So the idea is you're not trying to take off a whole lot of material you're just trying to get off the
01:39high spots. Now the use of this machine is important. You want to be have this grinding wheel as flat as
01:48possible on the floor. You're not trying to tip it up you're trying to keep it very low and flat so
01:54as you can do a nice even grind on your floor. There are ports to put on vacuums to try to suck up some
02:02of the dust because obviously any grinding of concrete is a dusty job so make sure you have a vacuum with a
02:08proper bag in it or a HEPA filter so that you're not throwing as much as little dust into the air as you can.
02:16The on this particular machine there's levers on the back and a level on it so that you can get the
02:25machine set up level and with that purpose there's a little bubble and that way you can make sure your
02:31machine is as level as possible to start. So you'll start your machine you'll slowly bring it down to the
02:38floor and you'll be going back and forth in a nice even motion. It slides very easily it runs at about
02:47less than a grinder's speed so it's not going to be as quick but it will give you a nice even grind
02:54and but remember now everything has limitations so do keep this machine flat when you're grinding.
03:02Don't put any weight on top of the machine sandbags or anything to make your grind be more aggressive.
03:06You need a bigger machine if you're trying to do more aggressive work and and also you want to take
03:13off is very little you're not trying to take off a quarter inch three-eighths of an inch you're trying
03:17to take off maybe an eighth of an inch and and be able to smooth it out. So don't send a small machine
03:24to do a big person's job use the right machine for the job. Thank you.
