00:00hi today we're going to talk about the aerator used to put aerated holes into your lawn very
00:18common in the spring used a lot even in the fall but this one is what allows the air the water the
00:25fertilizer to get down to the roots of your grass the machine is this particular unit is designed
00:34to be used in its position the way it is right now the drum on the front even though it does have a
00:40plug and can be used for watering is more to stabilize the machine and keep it in a level
00:46position as you're using it the main item that's been used here is the tines in the back these are
00:55what put the holes into the ground into the grass obviously you want to stay away from don't be
01:00around concrete water shutoffs in your lawn stay away from any kind of metal sidewalks even you
01:10want to make sure you're you're in the soil otherwise these tend to get bent or stones tend to get stuck
01:15in them and then you're not going to get a plug in your lawn you usually want to put a plug in about
01:19two and a half inches down into your ground now the condition of the soil is what he really determines
01:25that don't use it in the early early spring when it's muddy you're not going to create any kind of
01:31aeration it's only going to plug a hole and then it's going to close up as the soil is so wet also mud
01:39and everything gets around the chains and everything it starts building up and then you can possibly skip
01:44the chain off as well so the operation of the machine is fairly simple roll it over to your lawn
01:52lift the wheels up to allow the cutters to go into the ground the tines to go into the ground then
02:01you'll slowly after starting the engine pull back the lever and the machine will walk its way through
02:06the soil you can lift it up to do it and spin it around and turn it or you can lift the wheels back up
02:12and you can turn it in this manner and then back and forth back and forth across your lawn you can
02:19have the tines down and slowly turn without ripping up your your soil or your grass if you go in a very
02:25very slow curve now one other item that's on the machine is the weight the weights on the machine will
02:36come off sometimes and the soil is really soft you may not even need the weight in the machine but
02:42the purpose of the weight is to make the cutters go down into the soil what you're looking for is nice
02:47firm soil not muddy not really wet and obviously not real hard so the cutters will sit on top of the
02:55soil so then you'll need the weight but if you don't need it you can take it out and just use the
03:01machine without the weight
