00:00Today we're going to talk about an over-seeder. Now this unit is used to drop the seed onto your
00:17lawn. It digs it into the grass so that the the seed can germinate and grow new grass. Now a lot
00:26of times this is used where you have a patchy lawn, a lawn with a whole lot of little bare spots around
00:32it. It's also been used to even put down a new lawn where you go across it. Don't dig too deep
00:38but it at least gets the seed into the soil, dug down a bit into the soil. Now the hopper on the
00:45front on this unit is where you put your seed and which type of seed of course will depend on your
00:51area. You can adjust how far the the opening is when you use the machine in the front here with
00:58this dial. In this dial the numbers will usually correspond to a legend or a reference chart on
01:05top of the machine depending on the type of grass you're going to plant on how much to drop over a
01:10certain area. So naturally one thing you want to do with this is use it do it when it's dry. You
01:18don't use it when it's wet. You don't do it if you're going to overseed to thicken up your lawn.
01:24You'll use this machine when you do have the patchy lawn or when you want to add more seed to your
01:32existing lawn. But don't get out in the morning first thing after the dew or the water or after a
01:38rain because the bottom of the hopper gets wet and that's where your dry seed drops and all it's going
01:43to do is stick to the bottom. So give it till the midday or later in the day or when the grass is dry
01:50and you can walk across or run your hand across your lawn and it's going to be dry. Okay now what
01:57you have here is the I'm going to tip this up a bit. Naturally there's a hopper in the front. Now
02:04underneath this machine it's different than a thatcher is. You'll notice that the blades are
02:10are thin, very sharp and what these blades are going to do is slit the soil. You're going to adjust
02:18them so that they'll go down about a half an inch into your soil. So the seed is going to drop in the
02:23front. The cutters are going to be turning behind them and it's going to mix the blades, mix the grass seed
02:32into your soil. That way we get a little bit of moisture of course afterwards when you water it
02:38it's going to germinate in the soil and help it grow. You can go one direction you can also go 90
02:44degrees to that direction as well. So in this particular unit when you pull this lever down
02:50when you're using it this lever here starts the cutters turning but also opens the hopper and lets your
02:58seed out. So you'll pull this down you'll have your cutters turning and then by power as opposed to
03:05pushing you're going to go at a steady pace dropping the seed and mixing it into the soil. Now much like
03:13a thatcher you can adjust the blades you have to adjust them. When you have them up you're not going
03:20to be doing anything but you can adjust this machine so that this end goes down and you want to adjust it
03:27so that they just skip into the soil. You don't need it really deep all you need it is about a half an
03:32inch. That way you're going to have it mixed in and go one direction go back the other direction and
03:38you'll find that after you have some moisture in this is really going to make a difference
03:42filling in the patches in your lawn or establishing a new loft.
