25 July - National weather forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Good morning. A bit of a reversal of fortunes compared to yesterday for many places.
00:06Whilst it was quite bright and sunny towards the northwest, we have a front feeding its way in here.
00:11However, towards the southeast, where we had some fairly heavy rain yesterday, it's a much drier story.
00:17That front towards the northwest is gradually going to make its way southeastwards, but it's not particularly intense.
00:23And so it's already brought some rain across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland and will continue to do so as it edges its way in.
00:29But none of this is looking particularly heavy.
00:31That being said, across parts of Northern England, parts of Wales, particularly around western coastal parts and the higher ground,
00:38and maybe into Cornwall, we will see some thicker cloud and a few spots of rain arriving, particularly as we go through the afternoon.
00:45Behind the front, across parts of Scotland, maybe Northern Ireland, some brighter sunny spells developing, a few showers to watch out for.
00:52But the best of the sunshine, the sunniest skies will be across more central, southern, southeastern England.
00:57Like I said, it was pretty wet here across parts of East Anglia, London, the southeast yesterday.
01:03It's a much drier, brighter picture.
01:05The sunniest skies, though, will be across more central parts, and it's here that we're going to get the highest temperatures,
01:10highest 26, 27, maybe 28 Celsius.
01:14Even elsewhere, yes, it's a few degrees lower than this.
01:17But if you do catch any of those bright, sunny spells, well, temperatures should get into the low, possibly mid-20s for quite a few places,
01:25so feeling pretty warm, as you would expect at this time of year.
01:29Later on, that front continues to make its way a bit further southeastwards, but it's breaking up as it goes.
01:34So a bit of cloud here and there and a few spots of rain, but still nothing heavy.
01:39The showers towards the northwest, though, they are going to become a bit more frequent, a bit more widespread across much of Scotland,
01:45away from the east, and also across some parts of western Northern Ireland.
01:50Nonetheless, they're still quite hit and miss, so many places avoiding these.
01:53Some clear skies across eastern Scotland, northeast England, maybe towards the southeast.
01:57Otherwise, a fair bit of cloud through the night.
01:59And it's another warm, humid night for most places, temperatures for most holding up in the mid, possibly even high teens Celsius for some.
02:07Some places getting close to single digits, where we have the clearer skies towards eastern Scotland, northeast England, for example.
02:14And with those clearer skies, a few pockets of mist and fog can't be ruled out first thing on Saturday morning.
02:20Otherwise, through Saturday, then, it's a bit of a showery picture for many.
02:23We are going to see some fairly frequent showers across northwestern Scotland in particular,
02:28and a fair few showers are possible elsewhere, but many places will avoid them.
02:32Just be aware that we could see some more focused showers developing across parts of the southeast as we go through the afternoon.
02:39In between the showers, there will be some sunny spells developing, but temperatures are going to be a few degrees down compared to today.
02:45We're looking at highs in the low to mid-20s across much of England and Wales,
02:49and mid to high teens, possibly low 20s across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:53A quick look ahead to Sunday, and we have some wetter weather feeding into parts of the northwest,
02:59some fairly heavy, showery rain across parts of Scotland, and some blustery winds likely here as well.
03:06A bit more cloud across southern parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, a few outbreaks of rain,
03:10and a few showers elsewhere, but it's across the southeast where we could again have some slightly more intense, showery bursts.
03:16In between though, like I said, most places actually having a lot of dry and at times fine weather,
03:21with some decent sunshine in between any of those showery bursts.
03:24And temperatures, well, similar to Saturday, maybe a degree or so lower for some,
03:29but again, at this time of year in the sunshine, it's going to feel relatively warm.
03:34A quick look ahead to next week, and well, it is going to be a drier theme as we see high pressure building,
03:40but for more information on that, make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel so you never miss an update.
