00:00this program documents actual homicide investigations criminal charges are
00:10often dropped or reduced and all suspects shown are presumed innocent unless proven guilty
00:15at an apartment complex on tulsa's south side
00:30i don't know why do you need police fire medical oh police i'm calling the report gunfire about
00:37eight or nine shots were fired right in front of my apartment there were some people out here
00:42arguing and then uh we heard the shots did you see what they looked like no the way my window
00:50police and ems race to the scene and find a man lying in some bushes
01:04shot dead
01:16for homicide detectives their chance of solving a murder is cut in half if they don't get a lead
01:23within the first 48 hours
01:40hey max how's it going man detective max ryden will lead the investigation do you mind showing me the
01:47body yeah so he's laying over here next to some bushes looks like he died right there
02:00so we got a name for our victim brother jenkins
02:0632 year old brandon jenkins was born and raised in jenks oklahoma
02:11he attended jenks high school and went on to work in construction
02:14brandon brandon leaves behind his mother brother and sister
02:24he's got a gunshot wound to the chest brandon was shot once in the upper torso
02:31you can see where he tried to push open the door right there with the blood on the door
02:36blood on that dripping for a little bit
02:38it looks empty nobody lives here the first floor apartment is unoccupied
02:46okay walk me through this following the blood
02:54when he was shot he fell down at some point right in the area
02:57bleeding pretty heavily the team discovers a trail of blood that leads from the parking lot
03:05gets back up there's a pump right here like he steadied himself
03:10starts heading this way to the door of the apartment near where brandon was found
03:15looks like he was trying to get away and just didn't make it
03:24did we find any casings in this area no
03:27hmm but there's casings over here okay in the parking lot 30 feet from brandon's body
03:35so there's casings here bam bam bam bam bam from this part
03:39the team recovers four 32 caliber shell casings and then ran down probably 30 more feet and shot again
03:47and four more 60 feet from where brandon was found
03:52i got shell casings that's about it not a lot else it's really early in the game but
03:57we'll uh go try to find some witnesses
04:09one hour in
04:11host police hey can i come and talk to you yeah okay the team canvases the apartment complex
04:18oh yeah thank you
04:19this lady says basically she hears disturbance coming from that apartment before the shots
04:31a neighbor heard people arguing outside the apartment upstairs from where brandon was found
04:37shortly after that they hear bam bam bam bam bam coming from here they look out the window and
04:42then they see the muzzle flashes where those other cases would have come from
04:45they said they hear bam bam bam bam bam bam and i go do you know who lives it and she says a black
04:51female and then a white girl to the lesbians they say that there's two black females that live by the
05:00office of lesbians and they said these two hang out in that apartment by the office
05:06ryden's witness said the women that live above the crime scene are good friends with a couple who live
05:11near the office i just talked to a witness who's got information detective cheese calhoun spoke to
05:18the 911 caller and she said the dead guy he goes over there tonight they're fist fighting there's a
05:24disturbance she said that the white girl should come masculine if you will says i'm gonna go get my gun
05:32goes into the apartment comes out she shoots him and then take off
05:37so basically everybody says the top part was the problem okay so i'm gonna go knock on that
05:52so we need to do a search one in that apartment they may have threw the gun back in there before they
06:16left yeah we need to secure the upstairs apartment because our shooter came from there
06:23so the white girl and the black girl show up while we're securing it
06:26grab them when the management opens up i should be able to find them with the descriptions i got
06:30okay while detective calhoun works on the search warrant this manager yeah the manager of the complex arrives
06:47my car okay
06:49the upstairs apartment has a lot to do with this who lives there that she gives him the name of the
07:02woman who rents the upstairs apartment okay so her phone number 918 and her phone number okay
07:11and then who lived there with her it was supposed to be her and her daughter let me uh
07:22ryden calls the woman who rents the upstairs apartment hello this is detective ryden with
07:29pulsa police department the reason i'm calling is murder happened last night i have a dead body
07:36basically in front of your apartment down below i really don't know what's going on down there
07:45i've been in kansas city for about a week now and i stay gone weeks at a time
07:50i saw that your daughter lives out there is that correct yes because here's what i'm guessing there's
07:57a very high likelihood that your daughter's a witness because it's your apartment
08:01so i was hoping maybe i can ask her what happened that would be great
08:11she gives ryden her daughter's phone number and name okay is she a lesbian yeah does she have a white
08:19girlfriend yeah she gives him the name of her daughter's girlfriend i'm gonna break it down to
08:27you so you're on board i believe your daughter and her are people i need to talk to you so i'm gonna
08:35try to call her but there's a good chance she's not going to talk to me without mom saying hey you
08:39need to call that detective right away because if i have to find her it makes her look in a lot worse
08:44light okay okay i'm gonna be honest i have to get a search warrant to go in your apartment because
08:50i've been told that they this all started at the apartment if you were in Tulsa i'd just have you
08:58come in here and let me in but since you're in kansas city that yeah okay thank you bye-bye give me one
09:06second here sure ducks in a row ryden calls the daughter oh don't tell me she turned off her phone
09:15but she doesn't pick up hi hi you kind of heard everything do you know two black females that live
09:23by the office you seen them no would maintenance now they might know they usually see a lot more
09:31right yeah it's on me right now okay thank you ma'am
09:36so we're gonna head back to the office and i see how chase is doing with that search warrant
09:43don't know where the suspects are at but we'd like to get that apartment as soon as possible since they
09:47might be in there
09:48as day breaks we're going back to the crime scene uh we got a search warrant for the suspect's
10:06apartment right above where uh brandon's body was found gonna be looking for evidence gun
10:14any bloody clothes anything like that and then we'll hopefully we'll have enough we'll start the hunt
10:18for the suspect hey did they give you a key awesome go in there make sure they're not there and maybe
10:34maybe they just know we've been out here all the time and gotta be safe
10:45police police search warrant
10:51police police search warrant
11:04police police no one's in there so now we're gonna search for evidence hopefully we'll find a gun or
11:27something where would they have kept the gun the team scours the apartment hoping beyond hope that maybe
11:36there'd be a magazine or lots of ammunition something something
11:41that's what we're going to do
11:49nothing no gun or nothing like that
11:54i've got warrants to sit on this apartment yeah the fugitive warrants unit will keep eyes on the
11:59apartment in case the suspects return i'm gonna go find the two black lesbians that live in a complex by
12:05the office
12:07supposedly the suspects might be friends of theirs so maybe the suspect went over there afterwards or they can tell me where they're at
12:20are they maintenance
12:24here's the deal i have a witness saying that there's two black females that are also lesbians that live
12:29over here somewhere that are both black do you know who they would be yeah absolutely i know exactly
12:36what you're talking about i've seen over here before he points out the women's apartment okay
12:43i got a black girl and a white girl that live in that upstairs apartment supposedly that stay there
12:47when the real owner is out of town yes you think that they went there right and asks him if the women
12:54that live above the crime scene could be hiding out with the women who live near the office i think
13:00that if anybody shot somebody they wouldn't stay on the same property where they shot you never know
13:04you're correct they're trust me we don't catch the smart ones thanks thank you have a good day
13:10call us please
13:23hi we're homicide detectives is this your place she says the women that live in the apartment
13:32are not home what's your name but identifies herself as the black female that lives upstairs from the
13:39crime scene what's your name along with her sister sister is in there right and asks her if her
13:48girlfriend the alleged shooter is there what's your name okay so this is a murder investigation there's
13:59a dead guy underneath your apartment i think you know who got killed
14:09i don't want you for your sister to be in trouble for what other people do but i know for a fact
14:15that you guys know what happened and i'm not going to talk about it in the little courtyard
14:21i need you to come down too because we'll work through it okay both sisters agree to talk
14:27at homicide we'll have a chat in a more air-conditioned environment
14:32i think your sister is going to be honest with us sergeant brandon watkins transports the sister
14:46of the woman who lives upstairs from the crime scene i'm not gonna go back to prison or somebody
14:53else and i just got out of prison for somebody else there you go you know what i'm saying so i'm not
14:58and i don't want my sister to get a prison either like nope she didn't do anything yeah
15:03the situation that happened over here it's crazy she says she was at her sister's apartment
15:09when brandon was killed this is what um i don't know all of a sudden somebody just comes up and
15:18start shooting and we went in well i mean i i was i didn't i didn't see i didn't see who it was but i
15:28know no no it was shorty she's my sister's friend shorty that's like saying i know him by loke everybody's
15:39nickname is shorty what does shorty look like um dark-skinned i want to say like five five
15:47so she's pretty average and has the most common nickname of all time yeah
15:54yeah they call it shorty and they call it k k k okay okay so i'm thinking that her real name starts
16:02with k that would be that would be yes right yeah you're making the right call being honest because
16:10obviously it's real serious if we find a picture of k you can id here yeah
16:24i'll see her okay i'm going to try to find out who that is writing runs the nickname k in the database
16:37and how about shorty
16:42okay here we go
16:47hey rona mcnack
16:54hey rona i think this is the girl you're looking for 32 year old k rona mcnack is a mother of four
17:09she has an outstanding warrant for a traffic violation i think we know who it is k is a black girl
17:17okay chase talked to the 911 caller at the crime scene and i got told the suspect was a white female
17:24it's all this time we've been looking for a white female yeah
17:36this is detective run ryan calls the 911 caller who calhoun spoke to at the crime scene
17:42I got a couple questions.
17:44I know that you talked to my partner,
17:46Detective Calhoun, this morning,
17:47and a girl was brought up that's a white female.
17:53Do you remember how you got that information
17:57that a white girl might be involved?
18:02She now admits she's not sure the shooter was a white female
18:05and that it was just a rumor she heard from other neighbors.
18:11And people still signed up for just some talking and stuff now.
18:18Well, I appreciate you talking to me.
18:20If I have any follow-up questions,
18:21I might call this number, okay?
18:23Okay, yeah.
18:24Bye-bye.
18:24Have a good day.
18:27White girl, he's a bad lead.
18:29That was hearsay because that was a third hand.
18:33Sometimes we chase down leads that end up being dead ends,
18:36but just part of the investigation,
18:38and you don't lose any sleep over a fall on a lead
18:40that just didn't work out.
18:42So, I'm going to talk to this witness.
18:45Yeah.
18:52Hey.
18:53I appreciate your patience.
18:56Rioting starts with the witness,
18:58Sergeant Watkins transported to homicide.
19:01I know that you talked to Sergeant Watkins about this incident.
19:05I'm just going to get your story, okay?
19:07Tell me about your day.
19:08I was still kind of sleeping a little bit.
19:12My sister was up cleaning her up.
19:14She says last night,
19:15she was at her sister's apartment above the crime scene.
19:18My sister was talking about meeting up with Kay.
19:21And who's Kay?
19:24It's her friend.
19:26Do you know this girl's name?
19:28I don't know how to pronounce it.
19:30I'll just call her Kay.
19:31Okay.
19:32So, is this Kay?
19:34Hmm?
19:35Yes.
19:35Okay.
19:37She was supposed to take us to the store.
19:39And give me a little background.
19:41Are her and Kay just friends,
19:45or are they dating relationship people?
19:47We're just friends.
19:48Kay's straight.
19:49Okay.
19:51And did she have a car?
19:52We, uh, like a black SUV.
19:55Like a little kind of sporty.
19:58So, did she actually come and take you guys to a store?
20:01Um, no.
20:02We didn't make it that hard.
20:03Okay.
20:05So, tell me about what happens next.
20:08I heard the door shut.
20:09It's a mom's problem.
20:11I'm not thinking nothing.
20:12My sister always go outside and smoke cereal and abortion.
20:16And, um, I could hear some yelling.
20:18Like, you can tell it was more than, like, two people arguing.
20:24My sister was hollering my name.
20:26For help?
20:27Mm-hmm.
20:28Kay.
20:29She's leaving as I'm coming out.
20:32I heard her voice yelling.
20:34You're the wrong person.
20:35You're the wrong one.
20:37You can tell the way she drives off.
20:39Like, she's mad.
20:41Is she yelling out of her car,
20:43or is she before she gets in the car?
20:44Yelling out of her car.
20:45When she's driving off his, I'm coming out.
20:47And my sister's going upstairs, and she's standing.
20:51She had, like, remarks.
20:53I mean, you can tell that she just made it.
20:55And that's, she's got a full sound for her, huh?
20:58Brandon.
20:58She's like, that bitch stole my phone.
21:00She stole my phone.
21:01She says Brandon, a friend of her sister's,
21:04believed Kay had stolen his phone.
21:07And he gets a mistake with another girl.
21:09But it was actually a woman that looks like Kay who had taken it.
21:12And he's standing down there, and he's, you know,
21:16explaining that somebody comes up from, like,
21:20a little bush right there.
21:22Does this person sneak up behind him?
21:25I'm looking off the balcony.
21:27He's looking up right there.
21:28She says Brandon was standing under her sister's balcony
21:31with his back to the parking lot.
21:34Does he even know they're there?
21:36No.
21:36How close is the person to Brandon?
21:43A couple steps into the street.
21:46Did they say anything?
21:49The gunshots started going off.
21:52As soon as I heard the first one, I, like, fell to the ground.
21:55And my grandma says that we kind of fall into the apartment.
22:00When I hear the gunshots stop, I'll look up the window,
22:03and he's like, help, help.
22:04I'm like, oh, my God.
22:06You know, I'm going to use it.
22:16How many gunshots did you hear?
22:23Probably, like, four and four.
22:31The person that you saw...
22:33It looked like it was her body frame.
22:35Like, it had on all black, and...
22:38She says the shooter had a hoodie closed tightly around their face.
22:43It was her body.
22:44Like a South Park where we...
22:45Right.
22:46Okay.
22:47Who do you think that person is now after you've had...
22:50Okay.
22:52How confident are you in that?
22:55Very.
22:56She says Kay lives in an apartment complex, a block from the crime scene.
23:07Okay.
23:08Okay.
23:09So from the time that you see Kay leave until the time that Brandon gets shot,
23:17would she have had time to go home and return?
23:21Yeah.
23:22Okay.
23:24Follow me.
23:25Okay.
23:25I'm going to switch places with you and your sister.
23:27Okay.
23:38I'm going to first get into just some basic background of Brandon Jenkins.
23:44How long have you known Brandon?
23:46Like one, two years now.
23:47Okay.
23:48Tell me about you and Brandon's relationship.
23:51She says she dated Brandon before she met her girlfriend.
24:02Did you guys like each other?
24:04No.
24:06Okay.
24:07Well, now we're going to go into a timeline from yesterday until the time we met today.
24:15And at some point, is someone supposed to come pick you up and give you a ride?
24:19Yes.
24:20I go to Kay.
24:21Call her Kay.
24:23So she arrives.
24:24And then she's parked right there by my house.
24:28I'm down the stairs by this time.
24:31Here come Brandon.
24:33He grabbed me and pulled me towards him and hugged me very tight.
24:37He said, I love you.
24:39Okay.
24:42Ew.
24:44Sorry.
24:45Take a deep breath.
24:46So then what happens?
24:51Okay.
24:52She's sitting in her car.
24:53Mm-hmm.
24:54Wait, don't mean.
24:56And you start saying,
24:58get my phone.
24:59Get my phone.
25:01I wish I could like really show you me talking.
25:03You can.
25:04You can stand up and ring.
25:05I have no problem with that.
25:06Okay.
25:08The next thing I heard was,
25:11I'm like,
25:15and I see him in her tussling.
25:17He drives out of the car.
25:19I mean, like, he was really hitting her.
25:22Or fighting.
25:23Sitting on her.
25:25Like,
25:26this is a man.
25:27Okay.
25:28I grabbed him.
25:31He
25:31pushes me
25:33to get back to her.
25:36Bitch,
25:36get my phone.
25:37Bitch, you know you got my phone?
25:39You know what it is?
25:40Do you think he was intoxicated last night?
25:43Oh, he very much was.
25:45So, alcohol
25:45and
25:47meth.
25:48Okay.
25:49I go upstairs.
25:51I exist.
25:53I hear a car.
25:55She heard a car
25:56speeding out of the parking lot.
25:59Yeah.
26:00Okay.
26:00There was no one with her.
26:02So, she's left.
26:03Mm-hmm.
26:03Okay.
26:04So, then what's the next thing that happens?
26:07I hear a car.
26:08I swear to God.
26:10And then my sister took.
26:13I
26:14ran my back ass in the house.
26:18All I heard
26:19was somebody
26:20screaming.
26:22Was it ran?
26:24Yeah, it did.
26:28But I also
26:29heard
26:30you.
26:31Yeah.
26:33So, did you ever see the person that shot him?
26:35No, sir.
26:37Okay.
26:38Have you ever seen her
26:40or heard her talk
26:41about having a gun?
26:44Yes, sir.
26:45Do you know what apartment she was on?
26:47Of course I do.
26:47She gives Raiden
26:49Kay's address
26:50and phone number.
26:52All right.
26:52Okay.
26:55I've got both witnesses saying
27:00the victim was beating up suspect.
27:03Suspect leaves.
27:05Within minutes,
27:06a figure that matches
27:07this girl
27:09appears from the bushes,
27:11gets up behind him,
27:12and executes him.
27:13It doesn't appear
27:15either one of our witnesses
27:16saw McNack's face
27:17whenever the trigger was pulled.
27:20Yes, we think she's a suspect.
27:22I think it's definitely enough
27:23to bring her down here,
27:25but here's the deal.
27:27Unless we get a gun
27:28on a confession,
27:28it's weak as hell.
27:30Raiden will get a search warrant
27:32for Kay's apartment.
27:33It's probable she did it,
27:35but I need a gun
27:35that's going to match
27:36what's at the scene,
27:37or I need a confession.
27:39She has a warrant.
27:40At least I can talk to her,
27:41get a feel.
27:4321 hours in.
27:50We're going to go to Kay's house
27:52and search it for a gun.
27:54With the signed search warrant
27:56in hand,
27:57the team heads
27:58to Kay's apartment.
28:00Basically, she lives
28:01right around the corner
28:01before it happened.
28:03She had plenty of time
28:03to go home,
28:04park her car,
28:04and go kill the guy.
28:10I have a culture.
28:11Call the police!
28:19Search warrant!
28:20Call the police!
28:21Search warrant!
28:22Call the police!
28:26Search warrant!
28:26This is pretty bare.
28:50About as bare an apartment
28:52as you could possibly get.
28:59Came up dry.
29:00It looks like
29:01they've been moving out.
29:02There's actually
29:03very little in there.
29:04Most of what was in there
29:04was junk.
29:06Come on, canvas.
29:07The team canvases the complex,
29:10hoping for a lead
29:11on Kay's whereabouts.
29:13I'm looking for Shorty.
29:15I have not seen her
29:16since this thing happened.
29:18The neighbor says
29:19she last saw Kay
29:20yesterday afternoon.
29:22She says Kay's Nissan Rogue
29:47has paper tags
29:48from a local dealership.
29:51Was it here last night?
29:52No.
29:53She's home.
29:54Yeah.
29:56There's my number.
29:57If you see that car at all,
29:59you can call me
30:01night or day.
30:02Okay.
30:03I appreciate your time, man.
30:08I know what the car is now.
30:10It's a Nissan Rogue.
30:11Riding.
30:11We'll put out a bolo
30:12for Kay's black Nissan Rogue.
30:15So, at least we have something
30:16to narrow it down.
30:19Then.
30:20How are you doing?
30:22Did you see the apartment
30:23we went in?
30:24Yeah.
30:25When's the last time
30:26you've seen the resident there?
30:27I've seen activity over there
30:30at the middle of the last four feet.
30:32Did you hear anything last night?
30:34I heard somebody knock on the door.
30:36It was after dark.
30:38But I've got some guns.
30:39Uh-huh.
30:40I'm checking the footage.
30:42Oh, good.
30:44I appreciate you very much.
30:45The guy up there
30:53who's got a camera, right,
30:54that's pointing this way.
30:56He says we could look at him.
30:57Cool.
30:58Can you handle that?
31:00I'm looking from 7.30 to 9.
31:02Yep.
31:027.30 p.m. to 9.
31:04Yep.
31:04Basically, she has the fight
31:05with the victim.
31:07She leaves in her car
31:08and comes here.
31:10I'm trying to figure out,
31:11does she go back and kill him
31:12or does she have a guy
31:14go through it?
31:14The witnesses think it was her.
31:18I'm going to go up there with Nathan
31:19because Nathan's got,
31:21he's probably got a thumb drive.
31:22Okay.
31:24Our potential suspect
31:26is not liked in this complex
31:28by anybody.
31:29Like, every neighbor
31:30wants to come tell on her.
31:31So, we'll see.
31:33I realize today I've eaten
31:41one donut
31:42and one-on-one cookies.
31:43As Ryden takes a break
31:45after working 22 hours straight...
31:48Give me some good news.
31:52Detective Jason White
31:53calls in with an update
31:54on the surveillance video.
31:56We're still trying
31:57to get into the system
31:58so we're not there yet
31:59with any news,
32:00but we're trying.
32:01Okay.
32:01That's going to be huge
32:03if we see how many people
32:04come in and out
32:05during the murder time frame.
32:07Fingers crossed
32:08we'll have a probable cause.
32:10If there's something
32:10on this guy's camera,
32:12we'll get it.
32:12Thanks, Jason.
32:13I appreciate it.
32:14All right, buddy.
32:14All right, buddy.
32:15Bye.
32:15Time to go home
32:18and get some sleep.
32:33The next morning...
32:35I got the video surveillance
32:37from the neighborhood.
32:39It's a pretty good video.
32:42This is Miss McNack's apartment
32:45and we'll see what happens.
32:51There she goes.
32:53Three minutes before
32:54the 911 call.
32:56It's 7.25 p.m.
32:58There's a suspect
32:59returning home
33:00right after the fight.
33:02She runs in,
33:03leaves the door open.
33:05Not intending to stay,
33:06it looked like,
33:07since we left the door wide open.
33:10Now she ran back out.
33:12More than likely got a gun.
33:15Four minutes later.
33:18Okay, now she's returning
33:19after the shots have been heard.
33:21She's running,
33:22trying to get in.
33:26So this is a minute
33:27after the shots
33:29were called in by the police.
33:32She didn't make it in.
33:34Now the entire family
33:35is running out of the house
33:36to the suspect.
33:37This arrest for a neighbor
33:40gives you a strong timeline
33:41of what happened
33:42that she was involved
33:43in the murder.
33:46I'm going to try to get a warrant
33:47for her arrest issue today.
33:49The next step
33:49is to find her
33:50and get her set of the story.
33:51As the first 48 ticks away,
34:01Now four or five places
34:02up here to check.
34:05Detectives
34:05in the Fugitive Warren squad
34:07scour the city for Kay
34:09and her black Nissan Rogue.
34:10Here it is right here
34:24back to me.
34:25That's her car.
34:27Detective Brad Sharp
34:28spots the Nissan
34:29outside the home
34:30of one of Kay's relatives.
34:32We'll get turned around
34:33up here.
34:35Warren's officers
34:36will keep eyes on the house,
34:37hoping to catch Kay
34:38returning to her car.
34:41There's the back door.
34:43I have that covered.
34:52An hour later,
34:54Yes.
34:55Sharp calls Ryden
34:56with an update.
34:58So we stopped
34:59the family member
35:00who left.
35:03Warren's officers
35:03spoke with a family member
35:05of Kay's
35:05who left the house.
35:06She gave us
35:09some information
35:09that she had dropped
35:11her car off
35:11there this afternoon.
35:13The woman said
35:14Kay dropped her car off
35:15at 1.30 p.m.
35:18She was with
35:19a sister.
35:20Then left with her sister
35:21in a blue Mercury
35:22Grand Marquee.
35:25Okay.
35:26We got some good leads
35:27to follow.
35:28Okay, thanks, bye.
35:29As the Warren's squad
35:31continues to search
35:32for Kay.
35:33I'll pull over.
35:34Ryden
35:35reaches out to her.
35:37I texted her
35:38suspect and said,
35:39it's Detective Ryden
35:39with TPD.
35:40I'm sure you're aware
35:41that the police
35:41are looking for you.
35:43I'm a detective
35:43you need to contact.
35:44I'd like to get
35:45your side of the story.
35:46I know you were assaulted.
35:48Please call or text me
35:49and you can read this.
35:49Thanks, Detective Ryden.
35:51At this point,
35:52if she's not going
35:53to talk to me,
35:54she's going to run.
35:55So we'll see.
35:56One week later,
36:11I was at home
36:13watching the Sun's
36:14band parade
36:15and I got called in.
36:17Ms. McNack
36:17just turned herself in
36:18and wants to give
36:18a statement.
36:20Warren's guys
36:21did a great job
36:22and tightened the circle
36:23where she couldn't
36:23hang out anymore.
36:24So she turned herself in
36:25and we'll see
36:26what she has to say.
36:31Ms. McNack?
36:32Hi.
36:33I'm Detective Ryden.
36:34I do appreciate
36:36you coming down here.
36:37I'd like to get
36:38your side of the story
36:38if you want to give it.
36:40Make sense?
36:40Okay.
36:42I know you're supposed
36:43to give those ladies
36:44a ride and then
36:45truth tells itself.
37:01They called me
37:02on the phone
37:03and told me
37:04that they need
37:04to go send
37:05their mommy
37:05and daddy
37:06some money
37:06because they
37:07were going to
37:07Wichita.
37:08Okay.
37:11As soon as I arrived
37:13on there,
37:14she was coming
37:14down the stairs
37:15and that's when
37:17the dude walked up.
37:19She says
37:19as she parked
37:20her car at the apartment,
37:21she saw Brandon
37:22approach her friend.
37:24He ran up to her
37:25and like spoiled her.
37:28Then Brandon
37:28and her friend
37:29walked toward her car.
37:31I was just
37:32getting out the car
37:33and he just
37:34turned around
37:35and was like,
37:36where the
37:36my phone at?
37:38I don't know
37:39who he thought I was
37:40and I was like,
37:41real calm.
37:42I was like,
37:43I don't got your phone.
37:44I don't even know you like that.
37:46And then from there,
37:47he just started hitting me.
37:49He kept beating me,
37:51y'all, like,
37:51in my face.
37:53Face?
37:53He made me smash
37:55my hand in the door.
37:56He threw me on the ground.
37:58Got my arm cut up.
38:01And at the same time,
38:02she's trying to get him
38:03off me.
38:04Get off her.
38:05Get off her.
38:06And he studied going crazy.
38:08Had he ever had a beef
38:10with you before?
38:11No.
38:11Okay.
38:13She finally got him
38:14to get off a little bit.
38:16I turned around
38:17and I grabbed my gun
38:19and my glove before.
38:22And then I turned
38:23back around.
38:24He was rushing back to me.
38:27And then I started shooting.
38:30And he was still, like,
38:32rushing towards me.
38:33I'm like,
38:34what the heck?
38:35Because I shot, like,
38:37four shots,
38:38or five shots
38:39before I even hit him.
38:42Did you shoot again?
38:44Because I have a pause
38:45in between shots.
38:46Yeah.
38:47The pause is when
38:48I'm seeing he was rushing
38:49and he came closer.
38:52And then I'm guessing
38:53that's, like,
38:54when I hit him
38:55because he didn't try
38:56to charge me no more.
38:59When I jumped in my car
39:00and I drove off.
39:02Then where did you go?
39:04And what did you do?
39:06Got my kids.
39:08And then I left.
39:09She says she and her kids
39:10drove to a relative's house.
39:13Okay, we're gonna
39:13go into a little more details.
39:16This is gonna sound
39:17like a weird question,
39:19but I'm gonna ask you.
39:19Why did you shoot him?
39:22Because I felt
39:24a shock that I was good.
39:26He was erratic,
39:28like, and he wasn't
39:29gonna stop.
39:32So there's a couple
39:34inconsistencies
39:35and I'm gonna ask you
39:36about them
39:36and then maybe
39:37you can explain them.
39:38I have been told
39:40that you left
39:42in your car
39:42and went home
39:44for, like,
39:44not even a minute.
39:46And I see you on video
39:47and you go in
39:49your apartment
39:50and you leave
39:52within seconds.
39:54And that's when
39:55it appears
39:56the shooting
39:56was called in
39:57to the police.
39:59So this is my question
40:00after the fight.
40:02Did you go in the house
40:03and get the gun?
40:09Okay, that's
40:09what I want to know.
40:12Did you have to
40:13load the magazine?
40:17Now, when you
40:18went back over there,
40:19did you have to drive
40:20or did you just
40:20walk?
40:40Did you fire the first four
40:41and then get closer
40:42to him?
40:44I'm getting closer
40:45and he's getting closer.
40:48Okay.
40:49Do you think
40:49you shot him
40:50with the first set
40:51or the second set?
40:52If you know.
40:54Second.
40:56After that,
40:56I got him off.
40:57And then did you
40:58go back to the apartment
40:58to get the kids?
40:59So all that stuff's true.
41:01Yeah.
41:03Do you think
41:03you did make
41:04a bad decision
41:04looking back on it now?
41:06Yes.
41:08If you had
41:09to do it over,
41:10would you just
41:11call the police?
41:12Yeah.
41:15Okay.
41:15I'll be back
41:16very shortly.
41:23That's one of the
41:24better confessions
41:24I've had in homicide.
41:27She's likable.
41:28She just had a story
41:29and then she lied
41:29and then she told the truth
41:30and that's exactly
41:31what the investigation
41:32revealed.
41:34I just didn't know
41:34she went and got bullets.
41:35I thought she went
41:35and got a gun
41:36but she had to get bullets
41:37to load the gun.
41:37That was the most
41:42premeditated murder
41:43I've ever heard of though.
41:44She basically had
41:45three minutes to
41:46decide I'm going
41:47to go kill him
41:48and this is how
41:48I'm going to go do it.
41:49So it really can't get
41:50more first-degree murder
41:51than that.
41:51She's got four kids.
42:04I mean, it's sad
42:05that four kids' lives
42:05have changed
42:06because their mom
42:07went to go get a ride
42:07to someone
42:08trying to be a good person
42:09and ten minutes later
42:10she's killed
42:11Breanne Jenkins.
42:13He shouldn't have
42:13assaulted a female
42:14to begin with.
42:15She shouldn't have
42:16gone and premeditated
42:18her murder.
42:18She could have
42:19called the police
42:19and we would have
42:20been happy to arrest
42:20Breanne Jenkins
42:21for beating her up.
42:22There's so many things
42:23that can have been
42:23done different
42:24in this case.
42:25You can't go
42:26take justice in your own
42:27hand and kill someone
42:28just because you
42:28got beaten up.
42:29It's not right
42:30that she was assaulted
42:31but it doesn't justify
42:33killing someone either.
42:39Oh no.
42:40Oh no.
42:41Oh no.
42:42Oh no.
