00:05Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced,
00:07and all suspects shown are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
00:19A frigid Thursday afternoon in Midtown.
00:23Post, please.
00:25Yes, I need to file a missing persons report.
00:28Okay, who is this person?
00:29My daughter. Her name is Cassidy Richie.
00:32She hasn't had any contact with her family since Sunday afternoon.
00:37She doesn't answer her phone.
00:44Cassidy's mother says she's at her daughter's house.
00:48Okay, I would appreciate that.
00:50She says Cassidy's daughter spoke to her on the phone.
00:51She says Cassidy's daughter spoke to her on the phone.
00:56Four days ago.
00:57And then that's the last that we heard from her.
00:58She says Cassidy's daughter spoke to her on the phone.
01:0239-year-old Cassidy Richie was born and raised in Tulsa.
01:03What's your name?
01:04What's your name?
01:05Cheryl Richie.
01:06What was last time you saw her?
01:07Last time I saw her was at my house last week.
01:10I want to say Tuesday or Wednesday.
01:13She'll be actually talking to her and heard her voice on Sunday.
01:18She says Cassidy's daughter spoke to her on the phone four days ago.
01:21And then that's the last that we heard from her.
01:2439-year-old Cassidy Richie was born and raised in Tulsa.
01:31A mother of four.
01:33She is a cashier at a local sandwich shop.
01:36And recently got married to her husband, Chris.
01:47Cassidy has struggled with addiction for years.
01:50But has been working to turn her life around.
01:52While her parents helped raise her children.
01:54But recently she had a job for three or four years.
01:58She is doing a lot of things.
02:00She's leaving us in our school because we'll be friends with her.
02:02And then she'll move kids.
02:04She says Cassidy has known her husband, Chris Moreland,
02:08for about seven months.
02:10I got married only three weeks ago.
02:12After their recent marriage,
02:14Chris moved in with Cassidy and her roommates.
02:16You guys are the last person to see her?
02:19Okay.
02:21I can knock on the door and see if he wants to talk.
02:25Hey, man.
02:37Today's Thursday, so it's Tuesday.
02:40Tuesday, two days ago.
02:42What time?
02:43In the evening.
02:44We had an argument.
02:48And she said she wanted to go to her friend's house.
02:51Chris says Cassidy drove off in her light-blue minivan.
02:59You don't have any reason to think that there's anything wrong with her?
03:03No.
03:05But you think it's odd, though, that she has to talk to you?
03:07Yeah, but, I mean, we just had odds, so she said give me some space.
03:12That's what I'm respecting.
03:18Man, I appreciate you coming out here and talking to me.
03:20No, it's my duty.
03:21I just don't like it, brother.
03:23All right, take care.
03:24You too.
03:26You got to turn it off.
03:28No, he seems a little, uh...
03:31No, I'm sorry.
03:32Yeah.
03:32Yeah.
03:33I'll run him.
03:35I'll run him.
03:4449-year-old Chris Moreland Jr. lived in Los Angeles in Texas
03:48before moving to Tulsa a year and a half ago.
03:52He's gone fully worth it out of him.
03:54He has an outstanding felony warrant for theft
03:57out of Medina County, Texas.
03:59We're going to get out of here.
04:02Hey, Chris.
04:04Hello.
04:05You're still.
04:06We've got a warrant for your arrest.
04:07Turn around, take your head right back.
04:13What are the warrants?
04:14You guys need warrants out of Texas.
04:16You want to pat him down?
04:18Yeah.
04:29What's this key to?
04:34That's the second guard here.
04:37Chris says he has a spare key to Cassidy's van.
04:41We're going to come sit in half a minute.
04:49Do you think we should take him to detectives and let them talk in first?
04:53I feel like this is something, but it's going to turn out more than this way.
04:58Yes.
05:07For homicide detectives, their chance of solving a murder is cut in half if they don't get a lead within the first 48 hours.
05:28We have a 39-year-old woman that's been missing for the last couple of days named Cassidy Ritchie.
05:40This is technically a missing persons case, which goes to our crime scene unit.
05:44Sergeant Campbell brought it to us because we're very concerned about Cassidy's safety.
05:49Detective Max Ryden will work with crime scene sergeant Joe Campbell to investigate Cassidy's disappearance.
05:56Her light blue Chrysler Pacifica is also missing.
05:59The car has not shown up on block since Sunday, which was also the last time anybody spoke to her.
06:05The family said that the last person that Cassidy was seen with was her husband, Chris.
06:10You ready, Joseph?
06:11I'm ready.
06:12Chris.
06:13How you doing, sir?
06:14Good.
06:15I'm Detective Ryan.
06:16This is Sergeant Campbell.
06:17You're married, is that correct?
06:18To Cassidy?
06:19Yeah.
06:20Okay.
06:21When did you meet her?
06:22About seven, eight months ago.
06:23I used to go frequent her.
06:24She worked at a liquor store.
06:25She was a cashier.
06:26Beautiful person, great personality.
06:28She was on drugs.
06:29Chris says that he and Cassidy connected over their past struggles with drug and alcohol
06:50addiction.
06:51She quit working at Jubilee, and she quit drinking.
06:55OK.
07:03OK.
07:04So I know I talked to patrol officers,
07:05and they said that there was some kind of disagreement,
07:08fight, or something earlier this week.
07:10So tell me about that.
07:11What was it over?
07:21See what it is, trying to find out.
07:23She went to urgent care.
07:26That's how we found it.
07:28What STD is it?
07:30Herpes.
07:31OK.
07:32Did she have this STD before, or are you thinking she's cheated on you
07:36since she got married?
07:37I believe she had it before.
07:39OK.
07:40She just didn't tell you?
07:41I didn't tell you.
07:42So that's what you're upset about.
07:43Yeah.
07:44So we kind of argued about that, and we were being a little out.
07:49And the roommates weren't, you know,
07:52we didn't want to bother them.
07:53OK.
07:54We got in the car.
07:55I said about 7, 8 o'clock.
07:58We went to, like, 11 Domingo,
08:01a little park with the pond that's right there.
08:04We decided to talk.
08:06And she said she wanted to go have some time apart.
08:12And I said, OK.
08:14So I got out of the car, and I walked down the street,
08:16and I called a friend of mine.
08:18Who did you call?
08:21He gives detectives his friend's name and phone number.
08:25He picked me up.
08:27OK.
08:28And then where does he take you?
08:29Back to the house.
08:31OK.
08:32So my understanding is Cassidy has not returned since.
08:35No.
08:37OK.
08:38Have you texted her at all?
08:39Yes.
08:40I mean, did she say where she's at?
08:42No.
08:43Well, she hasn't responded.
08:45You tried to call her?
08:46Mm-hmm.
08:47They had ghosts for a divorce now.
08:51So where would she have gone since Tuesday?
08:54I don't know.
08:55I thought there was a possibility
08:56she may have went to a friend's house.
08:58I don't know all her friends.
09:00So she hasn't answered in basically two days.
09:07What do you think's going on?
09:09I don't know.
09:10Is there any reason she would not contact her kids?
09:15Not that I know of, no.
09:17OK.
09:18How many car keys are to the Pacifica?
09:20Two.
09:21Two.
09:22And you have one.
09:24Why'd you get this mark underneath your eye?
09:27I don't know, man.
09:29I mean, you understand what we investigate.
09:31Mm-hmm.
09:32I have to find her.
09:33Just one or two things.
09:34She's alive or she's dead.
09:37Hopefully she's alive.
09:40You know, I want to find her alive, more than anything.
09:43You too.
09:44All right, thanks, sir.
09:45Appreciate it.
09:46I mean, she gives him herpes, and then that day,
09:59she goes missing?
10:02I got a gut feeling this isn't good.
10:04Yeah.
10:05If she's got herpes, or she get it from somebody
10:08that he suspects she's having to prepare with.
10:10Well, that's what I asked him.
10:11He said she's just always had it.
10:13She's always had it?
10:15So what's he upset about?
10:17I don't know.
10:18Let's go tell you.
10:23Hey, Chris.
10:24This is Dr. Brown, my partner.
10:26Chris, how you doing, sir?
10:28So the fight, are you 100% it's Tuesday?
10:32Today's Thursday.
10:34May have been Monday, but I thought it was Tuesday.
10:38Was it the same day you went to urgent care?
10:41No, it wasn't the same day.
10:43What day did you go to urgent care?
10:46I can't remember.
10:47I think it was last week.
10:49Chris now says Cassidy went to urgent care,
10:52not Tuesday, but last week.
10:55Okay, so you went to urgent care and found out about herpes
10:58last week.
10:59Yeah.
11:00Had a conversation.
11:01Conversation.
11:02Tell me about what then, this week,
11:04led you guys to driving away from the residence.
11:07What reignited it?
11:10She had like, you know, photos and inappropriate texts
11:15with someone else.
11:17And what were the messages?
11:19Uh, did basically, did you enjoy last night?
11:23So you're, let's keep it real, Chris.
11:25Your fight wasn't over herpes.
11:26It was because she was cheating on you.
11:28Yeah.
11:29Do you know who with?
11:30Yeah.
11:31Because maybe she's with that dude and I go talk to him.
11:33I don't know.
11:34What day was, did you see those messages and that fight happen?
11:38Uh, night, on Tuesday.
11:44Two days ago?
11:45Yeah.
11:46Okay.
11:47Um, where were you guys when this argument took place?
11:50At the house.
11:51Okay.
11:52Um, so you argue at the house, then what happens?
11:56We left and went to the 11th and Mingo to that little park
11:59where the bond is at and had a conversation.
12:04Here's my thought.
12:06If I'm flipping through my wife's phone and I see my wife is
12:12stepping outside of our marriage, I'm gonna be a little pissed.
12:16Yeah.
12:17Is it right to say you're pretty much pissed?
12:20Yeah, I wasn't a little upset.
12:22I would assume that voices were raised.
12:25I don't too much raise my voice.
12:28I don't think you raised her voice in the house because of roommates,
12:32but you guys got in the car and left.
12:34She's never been seen since.
12:37I'm gonna ask you point blank, is Cassidy dead?
12:41Did you hurt her?
12:42No.
12:43Did she get hit during this fight?
12:44No.
12:45No.
12:46No.
12:47No.
12:48No.
12:49No.
12:50All right.
12:51Sit tight.
12:52No.
12:53No.
12:54No.
12:55No.
12:56No.
12:57There's two options.
12:58She's dead or she's with a new boyfriend.
12:59No.
13:00No.
13:01No.
13:02No.
13:03No.
13:04No.
13:05No.
13:06No.
13:07No.
13:08No.
13:10No.
13:11No.
13:12No.
13:13No.
13:14No.
13:15No.
13:16No.
13:17No.
13:18No.
13:19No.
13:20No.
13:21No.
13:22No.
13:23No.
13:24No.
13:25No.
13:26No.
13:27No.
13:28No.
13:29Um, hey, can you call, um...
13:31Ryden asks Campbell to reach out to the friend
13:34who Chris said drove him home.
13:36Call him and say, hey, did you pick him up?
13:37Where'd you pick him up? Was he out of breath?
13:39Was he beat up?
13:40And did he say anything about the girl?
13:42We'll go from there.
13:44I want all the roommates down here.
13:45I want to put them on tape.
13:59An hour and a half later...
14:01We'll go in there to see what they have to say.
14:03Cassidy and Chris's roommates agree to be interviewed.
14:07I'm Detective Ryden.
14:09I'm the lead investigator on this case,
14:11and I just got some questions to ask you.
14:14How long have Cassidy and Chris lived at the house?
14:17The month at the max,
14:18because they only just got married, like, three weeks ago.
14:21They shared a room with my sister.
14:23Okay, got it.
14:25So how long have you known Cassidy?
14:27I've known Cassidy since I started work
14:29at a liquor store that she worked at.
14:31She says she's known Cassidy for 12 years
14:34and that they're best friends.
14:36What kind of person is she?
14:37She's a loving, fun, good, you know,
14:40just a good person, got a good heart.
14:42You know, there's nothing she wouldn't do for somebody.
14:45Okay.
14:46So she meets Chris.
14:48Mm-hmm.
14:49Does anything change in her life,
14:50personality, or anything like that?
14:52Oh, yeah, her demeanor changes.
14:53Tell me.
14:54She's, you know, she's constantly with him.
14:57All the time.
14:58It's Chris, Chris, Chris, Chris, Chris, you know.
15:00My sister has seen a lot more than I saw
15:02because she stayed in that room.
15:03And I'll talk to her next.
15:05So would Cassidy confide in you if she found another man?
15:10Because I have information that she was now seeing someone else.
15:13I think she would confide in me,
15:15and that's just not Cassidy's style.
15:17She took her marriage very seriously.
15:20Any alcohol or drug problems?
15:22She has, she's a drinker.
15:24Does he have a drug alcohol problem?
15:26I've seen him drink a lot.
15:28Okay.
15:29Have you ever seen the two of them get in a physical fight?
15:32I have not, sir.
15:33Have you seen them get in a verbal fight?
15:35Yes.
15:37They were really loud.
15:39So what was the last time you physically saw Cassidy at the house?
15:42Today is Thursday.
15:44Last Friday night.
15:45She says she last saw Cassidy at the house six days ago,
15:49four days before Chris claimed they left.
15:53Tell me about that.
15:54She was there, you know, shed a black eye, this eye.
15:59Did you ask her about it?
16:00I tried to, but he was like right there.
16:02She really couldn't talk about it.
16:04Did she seem scared?
16:05Yes.
16:07They just hung out in their room all day long
16:09until they left to go wherever they went.
16:11She says Cassidy and Chris left the house late that night.
16:14I want to say about 12, 30, 1 o'clock, maybe.
16:19When's the next time you see Chris?
16:23He showed up yesterday out of the blue.
16:25She says Wednesday morning, Chris came back to the house.
16:29Alone.
16:30What did he say happened to her?
16:32He didn't.
16:33He slept the whole day.
16:35You, that's kind of a weird question.
16:36The car, Pacifica, that I guess belongs to her.
16:42How many keys did you ever see with the car?
16:44One.
16:46Have you seen this set before?
16:49Yeah.
16:51Is this the only one you've ever seen?
16:52OK.
16:53Mrs. Conover, sure.
16:55OK, well, I appreciate it.
16:56We'll walk you out.
16:59Perfect.
17:00Thank you, ma'am.
17:02I'm Detective Bryden.
17:03The way I understand it is you share a room with Cassidy and Chris.
17:05Right.
17:06When was the last time you saw Cassidy?
17:07It was Friday night.
17:08They had been arguing back and forth all day.
17:10OK.
17:11What were they arguing about?
17:12The past people that she'd been with.
17:13Sex-wise?
17:13Yeah.
17:22Seems like he's a very jealous person.
17:24Very.
17:25And controlling.
17:26He even went to the restroom with her when she had to go to the restroom.
17:40Power.
17:40She was never alone.
17:41Everything.
17:42She was never alone.
17:43OK.
17:44And had you heard any fights in reference?
17:46Him actually seeing messages on her phone that indicated that she was cheating.
17:50Yes.
17:51How long ago?
17:53Uh, I want to say Wednesday or Thursday.
17:56So, a couple of days before they left?
17:58Yeah.
17:59She cried the whole time.
18:00OK.
18:01And she's like, no, that's not true, that's not true.
18:04And I did notice that she had a black eye.
18:08Do you know when she got that?
18:10I don't know.
18:11I mean, he was always calling her bitch, you know, mother , you know.
18:17And more or less, he was pissed off all the time.
18:20Since you live in the same room, did you ever see it get physical?
18:24From my side to her side, they put sheets.
18:26No, I understand.
18:27I mean, I could hear it.
18:29How often would that happen?
18:31If not every day, every other day.
18:33OK.
18:37Does that look familiar?
18:38This cast was keys.
18:40She always hung it up on the nail on her side.
18:44Did you ever see a second key to that car ever?
18:47No.
18:49OK, thank you.
18:50I'll walk you back out.
18:54This timeline isn't even right.
18:59From Friday at midnight until yesterday,
19:03he never was at that residence.
19:04They say this is her key ring.
19:06There's only one set.
19:08Well, you can't say she drove off and you have keys.
19:11So we'll see.
19:13I mean, he's probably going to lie to me more.
19:15But at least we'll get the lies on tape.
19:18John, you ready?
19:19Yes.
19:20Hey, Chris.
19:25So I've talked to all the other roommates.
19:29I was told by your roommates that you and Cassidy
19:32fight every single day.
19:36We have, yeah.
19:38Sometimes those get physical.
19:41Yeah, they did.
19:41OK.
19:42And they gave the impression that Cassidy could not do anything
19:45without you right by her.
19:48Yeah, we were always, we were inseparable.
19:50OK.
19:51So here's the deal, Chris.
19:54Your timeline is nowhere near correct.
19:57You told me you left on Tuesday.
19:59Your roommates said, Friday, you guys leave.
20:02Never see Cassidy again.
20:04That doesn't make sense.
20:06Your story doesn't make sense.
20:10This key, they said there's one key to that car,
20:15and that's her key chain, one says it's hung up at the same
20:17spot in the bedroom all the time.
20:19They go, there's only one key.
20:21Let's not bull each other.
20:24I think you know exactly where the car is,
20:27and I think you know exactly where Cassidy is.
20:45So you can do one of two things.
20:49You can go, I ain't going to say ,
20:51or you can just do the right thing and go,
20:52bro, I'll tell you what's going on.
20:54I'll take you to her, because her family and her kids
20:56need some closure.
20:58Let's not each other.
20:59I can't do that, bro.
21:10You got the outstanding warrant.
21:11You're going to go to jail tonight.
21:13You'll be in Tulsa for a little bit.
21:14They're not going to extra-ditch right away.
21:15That's not a fast process by any means.
21:17So, OK?
21:27Then.
21:29Give us some good news, Joe.
21:31Campbell got a hold of the friend who Chris said
21:33took him home after Cassidy drove off.
21:36Like, oh, and he's like, he knows of a Chris,
21:39but they're not friends, and he never called him
21:41to ask him for a ride or for anything.
21:43So his alibi doesn't check at all.
21:45Yeah.
21:46Well, I think she's dead, and he killed her.
21:48But until we find our body, we can't prove that.
21:51But we put her and the vehicle on blast in the media,
21:55so we have everybody in Tulsa that will, if they see it,
21:57they'll call us.
21:58We're just trying to find her.
21:59The next day, got a tip last night
22:15where Cassidy's vehicle was at.
22:17A driver spotted Cassidy's van on the side
22:20of the highway, 18 miles from Cassidy's home.
22:24So we're going to go see if there's a body in it.
22:27All right, are you ready?
22:28Yeah.
22:34So we know she was live on Sunday
22:36because the daughter talked to her on the phone.
22:38Sunday to Tuesday, something happened.
22:42Oh, yeah.
22:44The last thing that we need to do is find Cassidy.
22:47I think it's just right on the highway,
22:50right on the side of the road.
22:57There's no body.
23:16You can see in the back, there's no body.
23:18And we're going to have to have a search warrant.
23:22Without proof that Cassidy is dead,
23:24detectives need a warrant to search her car.
23:29That thing heading up, is that women or men's?
23:34Those are men's clothes there.
23:37He's been in this car.
23:38Yeah.
23:43He's got a gas tank in there.
23:45I guarantee he's not going to have to drop a gas tank.
23:46I think he's leaving town and he ran out of gas.
23:49Here, look at this side.
23:56You got sticks and grass and stuff under that axle.
24:00Yeah.
24:01Look at this.
24:03Yeah.
24:04I think he went off road wherever he dumped the body.
24:07Right, because it's all up.
24:10I think Chris dumped her body, and he wrecked the car,
24:13and he basically was leaving in the car.
24:19You still got to find the victim.
24:21He's just figuring out where they went off the road.
24:24Yeah.
24:26Well, Reggie, do you mind towing it?
24:28Oh, I got it.
24:30The van will be towed to headquarters
24:32while the team works on the warrant.
24:37He could have dumped her body.
24:39Anywhere.
24:39Anywhere.
24:41I mean, out here in this area,
24:42there's so much vacant land to dump a body.
24:45Oh, yeah.
25:01The next day...
25:05Get him.
25:06As detectives continued to search for Cassidy's body,
25:09all righty.
25:11Bye.
25:12Kuntzweiler called me.
25:14Watkins gets a call from District Attorney Steve Kuntzweiler.
25:18He said he's never been.
25:20The pastor, who married Chris and Cassidy three weeks ago,
25:23called Kuntzweiler and said he had information about the case.
25:27I'm going to talk to the pastor.
25:33Hello?
25:34This is Detective Rodenthal's Police Department.
25:36Yes, sir.
25:37I got your number from Steve Kuntzweiler said you had information possibly pertinent to Cassidy.
25:43Yes.
25:44I have a guy who went and picked up Chris from the car.
25:49Do you have this gentleman with you?
26:04Yeah, I have him with me.
26:06At church.
26:07Awesome.
26:08We'll be there as soon as we can.
26:09All right.
26:10Thank you, sir.
26:12Bye-bye.
26:13Terrible thing.
26:14That's pretty freaking big.
26:15Booyah.
26:16Hi.
26:17Next ride.
26:18Nice to meet you.
26:19You bet.
26:20Come on in here, guys.
26:21The pastor introduces detectives to the witness.
26:22How are you doing today?
26:23Who is not the friend Chris Moreland claimed gave him a ride home.
26:38So how long have you known Chris?
26:40I mean, just a few months.
26:42But we were doing friends.
26:44He comes from kind of the same background as me.
26:47He says he met Chris through the church sobriety program.
26:50You know Cassidy?
26:51Yeah, I know Cassidy.
26:53I met her here at church.
26:55Uh-huh.
26:56So tell me what you know.
26:59Tuesday.
27:00He messaged me.
27:01I'll just let you up.
27:03He shows Ryden text messages between Chris and him on Tuesday afternoon.
27:08Okay.
27:09I'm gonna read out loud.
27:10Chris.
27:11Hey, brother.
27:12What's up?
27:13Are you busy right now?
27:14Yeah, we're getting more kids.
27:15Why?
27:16What's up?
27:17Okay, we'll talk to you later.
27:18Hit me up when you get home.
27:19Will do.
27:20That evening, the witness texted Chris back.
27:23Hey, sir.
27:24Today was a long day.
27:25I just want to check in and see what's up.
27:27But got no response.
27:29The next day is Wednesday.
27:30Yes.
27:31Chris.
27:32Hey, brother.
27:33I need a ride.
27:34I'm stuck out by the highway.
27:35Right.
27:36And then that's why I told him, I will come get you.
27:40When I pulled up, he was at the car.
27:42The blue one.
27:44Was he by himself?
27:45Yes.
27:46When I pulled up, he kinda, he was at the back of the car.
27:50Okay.
27:51And I really, like, I kinda, like, seemed weird to me.
27:54And I asked him, I was like, did you stay the night in the car?
27:57Uh-huh.
27:58And he said, yeah.
27:59Um, did he bring it past you or did you ask, hey, where's your woman or anything like that?
28:05I didn't.
28:06I could just tell someone was off with him.
28:09So I kinda, I kinda just let it be.
28:12I was like, I'm there for you if you need.
28:15Okay.
28:16Where'd you take him?
28:17I took him to his house.
28:19And that was on Wednesday?
28:20That was on Wednesday.
28:22That's pretty much it.
28:23Okay.
28:24Thanks, sir.
28:25Chris says that she left in the car on Tuesday and he'd never seen her since.
28:38But our witness said on Tuesday, Chris needed a ride from where the car was found.
28:44A car that he was never supposed to be in, which totally debunks Chris' story.
28:55As the first 48 ticks down.
28:59Well, I think she's dead and he killed her.
29:02But he's only gonna tell the truth until we can say we found a body just the way it is.
29:09We get the body back for the family.
29:11So the family can start the healing process.
29:25Four days after Cassidy was reported missing.
29:35We're gonna search the Chrysler Pacifica.
29:38The team finally has a signed search warrant for her van.
29:42Let me get done with the swab and photograph the insides.
29:45And then we can start going through this car a little bit more.
29:48Look over there.
30:12And that's how you see it.
30:15Oh, that's blood.
30:17Yes.
30:18Yeah, that's 100%.
30:24That is a lot of blankets.
30:38Are you serious?
30:39Yep.
30:42My heart just sank.
30:43Are you serious?
30:44No.
30:45Right there.
30:46That's a body.
30:51That's not a positive idea yet.
30:53Yeah.
30:54That's a body.
30:55That's not a positive idea yet.
31:04Yeah.
31:05You look.
31:06Right there.
31:07That's gray and black.
31:08Oh, yeah.
31:12She's like crisscross and applesauce with her legs.
31:14Yeah.
31:15Looks like a jacket or something's kind of wrapped around her head.
31:21We wedged her in there so she could be covered up in that scene.
31:22We're going to have to bring her out.
31:23Yeah.
31:24Yeah.
31:25Yeah.
31:26Yeah.
31:27We're going to have to bring her out.
31:28Yeah.
31:29We're going to have to bring her out.
31:30Yeah.
31:31Abby.
31:33Abby!
31:42Abby!
31:44Help me!
31:48Oh!
31:50And if I get on that bed, wintertime, ología,
31:52and I would have to leave that bed anyway.
31:54Oh, it's her.
32:09Found Cassidy in the car, so there's no doubt about it
32:13that Chris killed her.
32:17Got some confusions, aren't they?
32:21They'll perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death,
32:23but I think Chris beat her to death.
32:29Ryden reaches out to Cassidy's mother.
32:32Hello.
32:33Cheryl.
32:34Yes.
32:35Tell me when you can talk, when you're comfortable.
32:38OK.
32:40I'm not ready.
32:41I'm not ready.
32:50Go ahead.
32:51I'm sorry to just throw the phone,
32:53which you said you wanted to know.
32:54After we were very thorough and we eventually got in the car
32:56legally and we processed it completely,
32:59Cassidy is in the back of this car.
33:02I'm sorry.
33:04OK, I can't talk anymore right now.
33:06I'll call you back.
33:07OK, bye.
33:12Chris, I guess he just thinks we're not good at our jobs.
33:15I mean, this wasn't rocket science.
33:17Once we find the car, we found her.
33:19He's been wasting a lot of time and a lot of people's emotions
33:22that he could have just been a decent human being,
33:24but he's really not.
33:31The next day.
33:32I spoke to the medical examiner that completed Cassidy's autopsy,
33:38learned that she had multiple blunt force trauma to her face,
33:43all over her body, head, and had some cracked ribs.
33:47There was no weapon used.
33:49So she basically was beaten to death.
33:52And autopsy showed she was beaten over time.
33:55So I think that he beat her up on a daily basis,
33:59which is really sad.
34:02Sergeant Campbell continued with the crime scene
34:05to search the vehicle
34:07and was able to recover Cassidy's cell phone.
34:09Chris had claimed that the reason they were fighting
34:11during that time frame
34:12was because Cassidy was possibly cheating on him
34:14after recovering her phone and reviewing the data.
34:18There was no evidence that she'd been cheating on him.
34:20So it seemed like he just needed to make an excuse
34:22of why he did what he did.
34:25I went over to the jail
34:26to see if Chris wanted to give his side of the story.
34:28When I told him that we'd found Cassidy,
34:31put his head down, refused to talk,
34:33and I told him we were going to charge him
34:35with the first free murder.
34:38I worked about 50 murders right now.
34:42I usually have a top five people
34:43on my list of top five.
34:45And then he makes the top five evil people
34:47I've dealt with.
34:55One week after Chris was charged with Cassidy's murder...
34:58I was contacted last night
35:01and learned that Chris wants to talk to the detectives today.
35:05I hope when Chris wants to tell us the truth
35:07of what happened to Cassidy.
35:08So, we'll see.
35:10Let's go, Jay.
35:15Chris.
35:15The ball's in your court.
35:19If you want to tell us what really happened,
35:22I'd like to know it.
35:23So, can you tell me from Friday
35:24until the time we found you on Thursday
35:27what happened?
35:28Because you guys left on Friday.
35:29Yeah, we were in the car.
35:34I think it was Sunday.
35:36We were at that park,
35:37the little park right there off of Mingo.
35:39We were in the car,
35:41and, you know, we...
35:43Obviously, we had numerous fights, obviously.
35:50We were in love, though, too, you know?
35:53And...
35:54You know, we fought.
35:56And, uh...
36:00The big dude...
36:06I got scared.
36:09Because I thought I heard her, you know?
36:16When I went and got gas,
36:18I came back, and she wasn't breathing.
36:21She stopped breathing, brother.
36:24Well, tell me how she stopped breathing.
36:27I mean...
36:27She was in the back, and I don't know.
36:32Put it this way, Chris.
36:32She was beaten to death.
36:35She has all sorts of bruising.
36:37Her ribs are broken.
36:39We just can't say she stopped breathing.
36:43I mean, first off,
36:45I still think there's a little bit more
36:46about what the argument was about.
36:50Just try to paint the picture for me.
36:52It was, like, about infidelity and stuff.
36:58Okay.
36:59Her phone didn't have anything about infidelity.
37:01It didn't have any pictures of other men.
37:07What was it that made you guys get really physical?
37:09What I got really mad was when she elbowed me in the eye.
37:16Because that's how you got the eye thing?
37:18Yeah.
37:19I kind of grabbed her, and, you know,
37:21what the f*** is she doing?
37:22And she'd need me in my side.
37:25And I was trying to turn around
37:27and go back to the front seat.
37:29Man, she was kicking me.
37:32Okay.
37:34Um,
37:35and that's pretty much when
37:37it all went bad.
37:40What happened?
37:40Did you hit her?
37:59Yeah, a few times.
38:03She was basically assaulted to death.
38:05She was punched so many times
38:07that she died of those injuries.
38:09Was that consistent with what happened?
38:12Yeah.
38:15How long was the fight?
38:17She's a little girl.
38:18Yeah, not long at all.
38:21She was slumped over,
38:23and I tried to get a response from her,
38:27and I couldn't get a response.
38:29I know CPR, so I tried to do CPR on her,
38:32and I couldn't get her to start breathing,
38:36and I panicked.
38:39So what did you do next?
38:41I just drove towards, like,
38:43the Hard Rock Casino,
38:45and, um,
38:47I fell asleep.
38:48I had a wheel.
38:49That's when I wrecked the car.
38:53So then what happens?
38:55And then, uh,
38:56some guys in the truck
38:57helped me get the car out.
38:59So then how did it end up on the highway?
39:01Tell me about that.
39:01I went up to the highway,
39:02and then it stopped running.
39:03Okay, so then what happens?
39:06You're stuck on the highway with Cassidy,
39:08and a car doesn't work.
39:09I called.
39:10He says that's when he texted his friend
39:12for a ride.
39:14That was on Tuesday, I know.
39:15Yeah.
39:17Did you have to spend the night
39:18in the car on Tuesday?
39:19I did.
39:20Because he couldn't come until Wednesday?
39:21Yeah.
39:21And, um,
39:24he came and helped me pick me up.
39:27So explain why you didn't tell the truth
39:29the first day,
39:30or the second,
39:30or the third.
39:31Sorry, brother.
39:33I panicked.
39:34You know?
39:37And why are you telling us the truth now?
39:39Because it was an accident.
39:42I don't know about the accident part.
39:44I think you were pissed.
39:46I think,
39:46you didn't mean for her to die,
39:47but the attack caused me.
39:50Do you admit that?
39:53Okay.
39:56All right.
39:57I think we'll take you back.
39:58Okay?
39:59Thanks, sir.
40:03I think we all know
40:04what happened in the end.
40:06Chris.
40:06Salted her on a daily basis,
40:07then went too far one day,
40:08and ended up killing her.
40:11He was trying to get rid of the body,
40:12and, uh,
40:13thank goodness,
40:14something made him wreck the car,
40:16and he was unable to do that,
40:17and that's the reason this case was solved.
40:18So maybe some divine intervention happened here,
40:20that made her where he couldn't get away
40:21with what he'd done.
40:24And doing this violence is a bad cycle,
40:26just a pattern of behavior
40:27that a lot of the victims can't get out of,
40:28and then it only takes moments for it to go bad.
40:32I'm just glad that Chris is not out there,
40:33so he can't do this to any other woman.
40:35so he can't do it.
40:47I was just glad that Chris is not out there,
40:53so he's going to be a bit of a hope,
40:55and he's willing to take care of the kid.
40:57So this person can't do it,
40:57and I need to take care of the children.
40:59So I can't do it.
41:00I can't do it.
41:00So I can't do it.
