00:00Moscow is one of the safest towns, not only in Idaho, but probably in the United States.
00:25And where else can you go?
00:27And there's a moose walking on campus.
00:28It is absolutely breathtaking.
00:31It's just a little college town.
00:33You got just what they need for all the kids who are going to school there.
00:37That's where I found my best friends.
00:40Our group was pure happiness.
00:44When our friend group was together, that was our world.
00:47We were all like, this is it.
00:49This is all we need.
00:53These kids looked like they were just having the best time of their lives.
00:57Nobody ever could have imagined what was about to happen.
01:02Four college students were killed early Sunday morning.
01:06Their bodies found in an off-campus house near the University of Idaho.
01:10From the moment that I walked up the stairs, I knew something truly tragic had happened.
01:17To live in the little town of Moscow, Idaho, you think nothing's going to go wrong.
01:21And then suddenly the whole entire world knows where Moscow, Idaho is.
01:25You're just stretching your imagination.
01:29Why they would hurt these children.
01:30Why they would hurt my child.
01:34That was the most scared I've ever been in my life.
01:36It could have been anybody in Moscow.
01:38It just didn't make any sense.
01:40Who would do this?
01:42Is it possible that the killer was acting out of some kind of hatred of women?
01:47Rumors are rampant about how these students died.
01:50We were getting death threats.
01:52They're our best friends.
01:54Who's to say that's not going to happen to us?
01:56The attack was targeted with a quote, edged weapon.
02:03I do want the story out there.
02:07The right story.
02:09The question everybody wants answered
02:13Is why?
02:16Why these four kids?
02:26Why these four kids?
02:51Dropping Maddie off?
02:52Freshman year at the University of Idaho.
02:55As we just even parked for the orientation.
03:01Just waiting in line.
03:02Like, moms were hugging their daughters.
03:04And I had to look away.
03:05Because every time I saw that, I just wanted to ugly cry.
03:11She was so excited.
03:13And I'm just trying to keep us together.
03:19I absolutely always knew that I wanted to be a mom.
03:22I was a very young mother.
03:25I was 22.
03:28So I was always so protective of Madison.
03:31This beautiful, peaceful little girl.
03:34I never let Maddie cry.
03:40Like, never.
03:43I always made sure that she was comfortable.
03:47The whole thing about, you don't like the bassinet?
03:49All right.
03:51Come sleep in our bed.
03:52You don't like the crib?
03:53I'm not going to fight this.
03:54I'm not going to let you have a moment of sadness.
03:58When I met Maddie, she was three years old.
04:04No, she was just a character.
04:10Maddie was Karen's mini-me.
04:14They looked alike and they acted alike and everything.
04:18Maddie was a flower girl at our wedding.
04:21For a long time, she just called me Scotty, you know.
04:26And then when she got older, she ran into some of her friends.
04:31And she goes, no, this is my dad.
04:35And that felt really good, hearing that.
04:40It just made me feel so proud to be called dad.
04:48One day in sixth grade, Maddie says,
04:51I want to go stay at my new friend's house.
04:53Her name is Kaylee.
04:55And I was like, all right.
04:57Well, I want to go meet the family first.
05:02I met Gensalva's family, Chrissy and Steve.
05:05And we hit it off with them, too.
05:07And at that point on, I was like, all right.
05:10I know this is going to be a great union.
05:14I know this is going to be, I trust the family.
05:17Maddie and Kaylee, they were inseparable.
05:20You'd listen to them and you'd think they were sisters.
05:23Kaylee is a powerhouse.
05:26She'd be going 90 miles an hour and Maddie would sit back and listen.
05:31And then say like two words and Kaylee would get all fired up again.
05:34So Maddie has always been the quiet one.
05:38They played off each other perfectly.
05:41Our teacher's gone.
05:43We're just sitting here chilling.
05:46I love Lexi.
05:49Is this her phone?
05:50Yes.
05:51Oh, here's my teacher.
05:52From sixth grade on, there was hardly a moment that it wasn't Kaylee and Maddie.
05:59They were both applying to the same colleges because they were never going to leave each other.
06:05That wasn't going to happen.
06:06I love you.
06:07I love you.
06:08I love you.
06:10They decided they were going to the University of Idaho.
06:14The girls are just as excited as can be.
06:17And we were so excited for Maddie and Kaylee to start this new chapter of their lives.
06:22It just felt like I knew that Maddie would be safe here.
06:32At that time, the girls were much more about the sorority life than the academics.
06:37Say you need a couple credits before they let you out of college.
06:42I bet you bought that beer with your daddy's car.
06:46They had their minds set on what college experience they wanted to have.
06:51We can take a different route. I know you're from a different town.
06:55Kaylee and I became members of Alpha Phi. We became pledged sisters.
07:00Kaylee always played pranks.
07:02One time she had glued her top lip with nail glue up to her nose.
07:10And she thought it would be the funniest thing to prank.
07:13Her boyfriend at the time saying her lip filler went wrong.
07:19She did lots. She would do things all the time.
07:22Kaylee Gonsalves, special agent. I'm with the FBI. Do you have a second?
07:27And then she'd be like, just kidding.
07:28I mean, that was her happiness right there.
07:34Maddie was one of the first people to ever make me feel included at University of Idaho.
07:40She was one of the cool girls that was older and she was pretty and super funny.
07:45My Patrick, do you mind?
07:50Me and Maddie were in Pi Beta Phi.
07:52We were kind of the older girls.
07:55We were so happy that we found each other and we knew we were going to be best friends forever.
08:02And we just kind of took Emily and Santa under our wing.
08:09I'm a Barbie cowgirl.
08:10I'm a Barbie cowgirl.
08:13What do you have to say about it?
08:15Yeehaw!
08:17Zanna, she was a wild child.
08:19She could make friends with everyone.
08:21She didn't know a stranger.
08:23After moving in, we all had to go sit on the lawn and everybody had to stand up and say who you were.
08:29A girl stood up and said, hi, my name is Zanna.
08:34It's like Xanax, but without the X.
08:37She was the only name that I remembered.
08:42We were hip to hip through and through, like all the way throughout.
08:47I'm alright.
08:49Nope.
08:51She didn't wear makeup, so she didn't care about like looks really.
08:53We would all wear sweatshirts out to parties.
09:02It was just very much like we didn't care, but we did.
09:08You look like a monkey dude.
09:11Watch this.
09:15One of the fraternities, Sigma Chi, had just rushed a new group of freshmen.
09:20People were like, oh my God, there's two really hot twins that are joining Sigma Chi.
09:26I was like, okay, I want to meet them.
09:28First day that I met Ethan and Hunter, seeing these two big 6'4", goofy twins coming out.
09:37It took about 30 seconds before we were all laughing hysterically and just felt like a perfect match.
09:44Alrighty, my name is Ethan Chapin. I'm a freshman. I'm from Mount Vernon, Washington.
09:51What I have to learn in this class is just, I don't know, just really interesting because it is part of my like career path and major and all that.
09:59So, just ready to get going.
10:00I mean, we were triplets. Me and Ethan and Maisie.
10:06Ethan, with his personality, I'd say it was like almost magnetic.
10:11He was a natural leader in that way.
10:14And I was perfectly fine being a follower because he'd always have something fun to do and we'd always go and do it.
10:19Ethan was definitely like the leader. Like I would go to him and Hunter would go to him.
10:26We were always together. There was never a time longer than a 12-hour period where we were separated.
10:35We were raised very centered around family. So we were friends with everyone, but we were best friends with each other.
10:42Our kids are IVF. They're true test-tube babies. So you go through that whole process. So we were at the doctor and, you know, had to do an ultrasound to see if I was pregnant and...
10:59He started scanning Stace's belly and one, then there was another one, and then there was the third one.
11:08So Jim died and I was like, okay, well, you know. I don't know. I had a moment, honestly, I had a moment where I was like, okay, I guess this is now our life.
11:24I was standing in the kitchen and, you know, my water broke, but it was actually like Ethan's foot. He was at the bottom.
11:31So Ethan got tired of those living conditions. I mean, I don't want to call him the dominant triplet, but he just, he just had a big personality.
11:40I don't know. He just made you laugh.
11:55As a parent, what a great thing to have our kids at the same school.
11:59What a great thing for your three kids to still be spending time together.
12:03Throughout college, we had this group of friends that we hung out with almost every day of the week.
12:15This is actually King Street, where I've lived the past two years, and I really like just hanging out with my friends all the time.
12:25King Street is a very iconic place. It's known as the party place.
12:30I met Zanna my junior year, her sophomore year.
12:37I had Zanna on Snapchat, and I saw her location on King Street.
12:44I texted her and I said, oh my gosh, I'm your new neighbor.
12:47I actually just signed a lease right across the street. Here's where I'm living.
12:51We'd always hang out with everyone at the King Road house, which is less than a block away from our house, like a 30-second walk.
12:58I just called it Zanna's house. The friend group came over all the time to Zanna's house.
13:05Maddie and Kaylee lived on the top floor, Dylan and Zanna in the middle, and then Bethany was in the basement.
13:11I knew Bethany and Dylan from Pi-Fi really well.
13:20Dylan is Emily's little, and in sorority terms that means like a little sister.
13:25We would just sit together, talk and like hang out, and literally play country music.
13:33She drives me wild. Beautiful, crazy.
13:46Yeah.
13:50Ethan, look at me. Smile.
13:55Ethan and Zanna, everybody else knew they liked each other before they did.
14:02Ethan and Zanna were hanging out constantly.
14:08I was so eager for it, mainly because I liked Ethan so much.
14:14Me and Hunter had been dating, and Hunter and Ethan were becoming best friends.
14:24We were all hanging out, us four more.
14:27We just all knew it was different with Ethan and Zanna.
14:30They are like the same exact person. Just a boy and a girl.
14:35Like, you get the vibe of Ethan walking into a room, and like everyone lightens up.
14:40You got the same exact thing from Zanna.
14:44This was a great thing for Zanna.
14:48It was great for Ethan too.
14:49Parents weekend, November 5th and 6th, that was 2022.
15:03It was the kid's second year of college, and it was the most amazing weekend.
15:09We could tell that Ethan was serious with Zanna.
15:12It was so fun.
15:15You could just see where they were starting to adult.
15:17And for Stace and I, that was huge for us.
15:25We left Sunday morning, and literally as we were driving out of town, Jim, and I mean this,
15:31we literally high-fived each other.
15:33We were like, we've done it.
15:35We've done it.
15:37We're good.
15:40And that's such a huge satisfaction as a parent you feel.
15:47And then to have it taken away in seven days, it was very short-lived.
16:00You're supposed to raise your kids so that they fly.
16:03Fly.
16:04And we had literally had a week of that.
16:08One week.
16:09It started off like any normal day.
16:10I had slept over at Emily's apartment.
16:14I mean, we got a call and we're like, I'm not.
16:17It's okay.
16:18I've never had a week before.
16:19I'm like, we're good.
16:20Even though I'm not.
16:22I'm not, I'm not.
16:23I'm not.
16:24I'm not.
16:25I'm not.
16:27I'm not.
16:28I'm not.
16:30I'm not.
16:31I'm not.
16:32I'm not.
16:33I'm not.
16:34I'm not.
16:35I had something over at Emily's apartment.
16:41I mean, we got a call.
16:46I didn't really think much of it.
16:53Dylan had called us.
16:58She and Dana, they were roommates.
17:02She was like, something weird happened.
17:05Last night, I don't really know if I was dreaming or not, but I'm really scared.
17:13Can you come check out the house?
17:16She was like, I'm in the basement with Bethany.
17:19She said, I called for Zanna a few times and she hasn't responded, but we just come over.
17:26I was like, oh, sure.
17:28Should I bring my pepper spray?
17:31Not thinking anything of it.
17:33I lived with Emily at the time and then I remember her being like, oh, yeah, let's go to Zanna's.
17:41Dylan wants us to come over.
17:42She's called us before and been like, oh, I'm scared.
17:44Can you bring your boyfriends over?
17:46But like, not like, it was never anything serious.
17:48Like, it was just like a pan fell.
17:50Like, actually nothing because it's Moscow.
17:53Then we were like, oh, yeah, we'll just go over and Hunter and he'll just check it out.
17:59I don't think I've ever locked a single door in Moscow.
18:02When Dylan had called, I didn't think it was urgent.
18:08So I started walking to Zanna's house and when we got there, Dylan and Bethany had exited the house.
18:16They frightened, just kind of like, just hands on their mouth, like, I don't know what's going on type thing.
18:29When I was going up the stairs, Hunter Johnson was already in the house.
18:33We were just a bit behind.
18:34As soon as I stepped in the house, I was like, oh, something is so not right.
18:44Like, you could feel it almost.
18:50The stairs are immediately, when you walk in the door, to the left.
18:54Then you walk upstairs and there's the living room.
19:01And then all the way down the hall, it's Zanna's room.
19:04Hunter was ahead of me and Emily.
19:12I stepped foot in the house and immediately was pushed out.
19:15And Hunter was like, get out, somebody call 911.
19:21Yeah.
19:23Hunter had enough courage to tell them to call the police for not a real reason.
19:33And he worded it very nicely.
19:35He said, tell them there's an unconscious person.
19:42Hunter saved all of us extreme trauma by not letting us know anything.
19:51And Dylan was the one that was on the phone with 911.
19:58And I had to take the phone from her because she was so completely hysterical.
20:03They're like, what's the address?
20:04What's the address?
20:05What's the address?
20:05I was like, 1122 King Road.
20:07She was like, well, what happened?
20:09I was like, I don't know.
20:10And then I think that's when Hunter was like, they didn't have, he just like looked at me and he was like shaking his head.
20:18He was like, they didn't have a pulse.
20:19And I mean, even when he said they had no pulse, I still was like, oh, the paramedics are going to come and like revive them.
20:31And then the cops came.
20:32And I saw all the paramedics carrying the bags, but they never actually went up the stairs or inside at all.
20:45I woke up at about 12 o'clock to my Sigma Chi brother at the edge of my bed shaking me.
20:52He's like, Hunter, you got to wake up.
20:55There's cops on King Street.
20:57I was like, what do you mean?
20:58He's like, there's cops right in front of the King house.
21:00It's like, okay, that's probably normal.
21:05There's more noise complaints there than anywhere else on campus.
21:12And my brother, Ethan, basically lived at the King Road house with XANA.
21:24At 12 o'clock, I look outside of my window, which faces 1122.
21:30King Road.
21:31And I see my friends standing outside.
21:36Hunter, Emily.
21:39The police were starting to put the caution tape up.
21:42And that's when I knew something really bad happened.
21:47And I ran outside, and the first person I grabbed was Emily, and she was crying.
21:57And Dylan made a comment of, I can't believe somebody would do this.
22:05And I whispered to Emily, where's XANA?
22:15And she said, she's inside.
22:23And I think she's dead.
22:24And I think all I wanted was to go wake XANA up.
22:31And I knew it wasn't going to happen.
22:33So I was walking over to the King Road house.
22:43And I saw a group of people sitting on the ground.
22:45And it's all the people I've been hanging out with.
22:50And they all just had this look in their face.
22:52When I walked up, like, the world had ended.
22:56I remember seeing Hunter walking up.
23:03And I remember us all turning and being like, oh, my God.
23:06Like, somebody's going to have to tell him what just happened.
23:09I'm like, what the hell's going on?
23:11Like, where's Ethan?
23:13And they're like, Ethan's not here anymore.
23:17What do you mean, Ethan's not here anymore?
23:20I was like, where'd he go?
23:21And they're like, your brother's dead.
23:29It was like, that can't be true.
23:40And then Hunter Johnson was like, I think XANA, Ethan were murdered last night.
23:51I didn't even know how to respond to it.
23:53Because it's like, so unreal that someone I had spent almost every minute of my life with...
23:59I don't even know.
24:01Just saying.
24:01The first person I called was Maisie.
24:20Literally all Hunter said was, you just need to come to XANA's.
24:24And I asked him why.
24:25And he was like, just come.
24:27Don't ask any questions.
24:28Have someone drop you off.
24:29I remember sitting in the car.
24:35Feeling like...
24:37I was like, feeling like something was wrong.
24:44It was weird.
24:49I just knew.
24:50I was at the grocery store.
25:04I'd run into a friend and we were standing having a short little, you know, hello conversation.
25:09And my phone started to ring and it was, it was Hunter's voice.
25:17He just said, Ethan's not here.
25:19That's what he said.
25:21He goes, Ethan's not here.
25:23And I'm like, well, go get him.
25:25And he just kept repeating it.
25:26Like, they're not, no, you don't understand what I'm telling you, Mom.
25:28They're not here.
25:30Ethan and XANA are not here.
25:32And I'm like, well, go and get them.
25:36Like, I couldn't face the fact that he was dead.
25:40He's like, no.
25:41He's, I think he said to me, he goes, Mom, you don't understand.
25:43They're not on this earth anymore, I believe is what he said to me.
25:46I didn't believe it.
25:55I didn't cry.
25:56I didn't, I just left my cart and walked out of the grocery store.
26:00And I got in the car and I was driving down the road and I called Jim.
26:07She said Ethan was killed.
26:08And I, I wasn't sure what I heard.
26:19I, I, I go, what?
26:22Yeah, something happened to Ethan and he, and he's been killed.
26:30So we packed some clothes and we jumped in the car and, and drove to Moscow.
26:38So we're sitting on the driveway, the cops were not speaking to us at all.
26:55I don't even think they were looking at us.
26:58None of the cops would talk to us.
27:01And we were like, should we ask them a question?
27:04Like, what the fuck just happened?
27:05I feel like they should talk to us because we're the people sitting outside.
27:11We sat there for so long with no information.
27:15Just was like, why are we sitting?
27:19Everybody kind of gets that communication that Ethan and Zanna are not, are not alive.
27:26Then it finally clicked.
27:28Oh my gosh, where's Kaylee and Maddie?
27:33Their phones are pinging in there.
27:34Their phones are inside that house.
27:37We didn't know if they were home.
27:38We didn't know if they were in there.
27:40We didn't know anything.
27:41We couldn't get a hold of them.
27:42I was sitting next to Dylan and she really wanted to find out where they were and we never went up there.
27:56We got very frustrated with the police.
28:19We're like, you can't tell us anything.
28:21We're like, you can't tell us anything.
28:26Word spread so fast in Moscow.
28:34Everybody on King had their windows open and were like peeking through the blinds because they saw all the cop cars and like the caution tape up by then.
28:40My phone rings and it's Maddie's boyfriend, Jake.
28:54And my heart kind of stopped for a second.
28:57And he said, Karen, do you know what's going on in Moscow right now?
29:01And I was like, I have no idea.
29:06So he said, there's been a homicide at Maddie's house.
29:10We think Zana's dead.
29:13And my heart just sank.
29:16Like, I called Maddie and Kaylee and there was no answer.
29:23So I called the Moscow Police Department and they were like, well, we can't, we can't really tell you anything.
29:30And Scott kind of downplayed it.
29:32He's like, you know, it's probably something so blown out of proportion kind of thing.
29:38I go, well, let's just go down and have lunch with her.
29:40We'll go pick her up and we'll see what's going on.
29:44We got in the car, we got gas and we headed down to Moscow.
29:58I called the police department again and I said, I know you can't tell me anything,
30:03but can you confirm that there's an active homicide investigation at 1122 King Road?
30:09And she said yes.
30:14It was on speaker so that Scott could hear, like, this is real, whatever this is, it's real.
30:21The whole time my mindset was that we were going to go pick up Maddie and Kaylee and bring them home
30:29and console them and hug them and figure out just what happened.
30:38My stomach dropped.
30:40I didn't know what to think.
30:42I saw the ambulances, cops.
30:45So the cops still not speaking to us.
30:48And then...
30:50All of our phones go off and there's an alert that says homicide on King Road.
31:00Everyone simultaneously just started bursting into tears.
31:04We all get the first vandal alert, which is, like, Amber Alert, but for just University of Idaho students.
31:12Investigating a homicide on King Road.
31:15It didn't say how many.
31:16It didn't say who.
31:21Homicide being investigated.
31:23Where's Kaylee and Maddie?
31:31We got another vandal alert.
31:36Four students found dead.
31:38Quadruple murder.
31:39And we look at the text and we're all like, what the...
31:42What?
31:43Because nobody had said anything to us.
31:45That was before the cops even told us that Maddie and Kaylee had passed and that they were in there.
31:54I don't even know if I looked at my phone or if somebody showed me.
31:57But people, they weren't like...
31:58Some of my girls started, like, yelling at the police guys.
32:02I show them my phone and I go, what the fuck is this?
32:04And he just looks at me.
32:05He goes...
32:06He, like, grabs my phone and he's like, I didn't even know they were sending this.
32:09I'm so sorry.
32:10And we were like, well, what does this mean?
32:12He was like, all four of them.
32:16And at that moment, I think it's when everything kind of became real.
32:24And I was like, oh my God.
32:26Like, what's going on?
32:33What happened inside of that house?
32:35I was texting Emily, asking what's going on, and I was informed by her that Hunter went into Xena's room and found them with wounds, a lot of blood, and this looked and felt like an attack, a malicious, you know, attack.
33:02Who would do that?
33:03Like, there's literally nobody that disliked them.
33:16They asked us all to come to the police station.
33:19I'd never been to the police station, so I didn't realize what was going to happen.
33:23They took us one by one in an area with a single cop.
33:29They would ask me normal things like, what were you doing the day before?
33:35Do you know of anyone who might want to do things like this?
33:39But I don't know anyone who would ever want to do that.
33:47What happened?
33:48What did you see?
33:49They were trying to clear us, mostly, I'm assuming.
34:01So we got to the police department.
34:02I remember running up the stairs and just trying to find anyone to talk, like anyone to, just anyone.
34:12And finally, they put us in a little room, and they came into the back door and kind of opened this file.
34:24And the officer kind of explained, there has been a homicide in your daughter's house.
34:30And there were four victims.
34:34And instantly, we were like, what?
34:38It just made no sense.
34:42And he said, Maddie was a victim.
34:48And then, I said, what about Kaylee?
34:52He said, Kaylee was also a victim.
34:54I just remember just being so angry.
35:03I was like, this can't be true.
35:08I mean, this is Idaho.
35:10I mean, things like this, you see it on TV, you know, East Coast or something like that.
35:19And then, we found out about the other two.
35:23And it's like, what is going on here?
35:26This is ridiculous.
35:27This is unbelievable.
35:28It's like, no.
35:35They couldn't tell us anything.
35:37They had no details.
35:41So our minds were just circling.
35:46What could have happened here?
35:49What possibly happened in the house?
35:54They were still working the scene.
35:58And they couldn't let us near it.
36:01Or we couldn't see anybody here.
36:05The girls, they're just like, oh.
36:08We're like, well, what are we supposed to do?
36:10I remember sitting in the parking lot of the Moscow police.
36:17And as we were just barely getting in the car, I said to Scott, there was nothing we could have done.
36:25There was nothing we could have done.
36:26These are your own kids going off to college, you know, and they're supposed to be safe and have a good time.
36:38You know, getting an education.
36:41Something like this isn't supposed to happen.
36:42I've been here in Moscow on scene since about 3 p.m.
36:53Since I've been here, I've watched Moscow police cars come in and out of this neighborhood where officials found four people dead.
37:00Moscow police say they responded to a call here on King Road for an unconscious individual.
37:06This is very much a developing situation.
37:08And we will continue to stay on the grounds until we have more information to report back to you.
37:13We drove to Moscow.
37:21We got there, I think it was like 9 o'clock at night.
37:25We drove to the jail.
37:28And we sat down with the police and they told us what had happened.
37:35At that point, I don't think anybody even knew the extent of anything.
37:40There was just these four incredible college kids.
37:46We just knew they were gone.
37:49The university had rented a block of rooms.
37:55After the police department, we took each of the kids and they picked up a couple of things and we had to go sleep in this hotel room together.
38:04We're just sitting in the sliding doors of a hotel lobby, just crying.
38:10Like, out loud.
38:15We had an adjoining room and Maze and Hunt were in there, but we all wound up just laying together.
38:20And, you know, there's not a lot you can, what do you talk about in that moment?
38:28The kids were kind of in the same state of mind as Stace and I were.
38:31They really were like, what has just happened here?
38:37What has happened to our family?
38:39What happened to Ethan?
38:42I remember I didn't sleep.
38:44I mean, I don't think any of us slept for days.
38:53The university said that we are putting people who were closely affected in a hotel room for the night to get you off King Street.
39:00I mean, I said, okay, yeah, like, we don't feel safe here.
39:03Honestly, we don't feel safe anywhere.
39:05Emily and Hunter were there, Josie, Dylan, Bethany.
39:11That's when I first really cried.
39:13It was right there.
39:14I mean, I just explained to my mom, I was like, I don't know what's going on.
39:19But this is what just happened to me this morning.
39:22What do I do?
39:23We sat in the hallway.
39:29Hunter was still in shock.
39:31I think we all were.
39:32But he was just so very, like, ghost.
39:39And I think Emily was really, really worried about him.
39:44I think the realism actually set in.
39:47And I was very terrified.
39:50I mean, I didn't sleep that whole first night.
39:53Me and Hunter went to bed scared.
40:03And every noise we heard, we thought we were going to be attacked.
40:06I was like, is there someone here right now?
40:09I don't even know.
40:10Like, I was truly scared.
40:13Fear of unknown got to all of us.
40:25Why would it happen to me?
40:28Why would it happen to my friends?
40:31They're our best friends.
40:32Like, if that just happened to our best friends, like, who's to say that's not going to happen to us?
40:36News out of Idaho, where four college students were killed early Sunday morning.
40:45Their bodies found in an off-campus house.
40:46Police do still have this house here blocked off with crime tape investigating here.
40:53Police say it was a targeted attack near the University of Idaho.
40:59He's saying that it was an isolated and a targeted attack, but no supporting information around that.
41:05It was random to all of us, but they said it was targeted.
41:14We were a big group of friends.
41:16Why would you target those four specifically?
41:20And so there's a big realization that we had been stalked for so many months and had no clue.
41:28And we would have no clue if we were currently.
41:34There's this person out there who had just murdered our brother.
41:39And he's still out there somewhere.
41:41There's this person out there who had just murdered our brother.
42:11There's this person out there.
