00:00And we go green in Malaysia and it's a good getaway from Sebastian Buemi as well.
00:04Antonio Felix da Costa looking racy on the run down towards Turn 1.
00:08He's not going to be close enough though because Duval covers the inside line.
00:11Good start from Prost going around the outside as everyone comes into the first chicane for the first time.
00:15And round goes Heidfeldt. He's been hit by Jean-Erik Verne in the middle of the pack.
00:19But up in front it's Sebastian Buemi who holds the lead coming up to the right-hander.
00:23Duval in second place through the right-hander. Anyone making any attacks? Not yet.
00:27Bruno Senna trying to get around the outside of Robin Fraintz. Not close enough.
00:30The two next EV TCR cars going side by side. Fraintz is on the attack and he goes past Jerome D'Ambrosio.
00:36So that means he's up into sixth position. But it's Sebastian Buemi who held the lead.
00:41And the race getting underway caught us by surprise but the drivers at least were on it.
00:48They look like they're on it, yeah. Especially Buemi. He's just taken off there a little bit as he did in China.
00:52Nick Heidfeldt bringing up the rear of the field there having been spun at the first corner.
00:57So Buemi leads. Duval second. Da Costa third. Nico Prost in fourth. Then it's Lucas Di Grassi.
01:03The other problem that we have with Sarrazan being out is that there was no one able to really challenge Buemi going down into turn one.
01:10As they come through the hairpin for the first time on this opening lap. Out onto the Sarrazan Bridge.
01:16And a little look from Simone Di Silvestro but no progress being made there as they come round now to complete the first lap.
01:22With 33 laps of racing. It's going to be a long old race. Longer than last year. They're going longer.
01:28Running at higher power. And as a result they're really stretching the cars. This is the rear view from Nico Prost as he comes across the line.
01:35Running down towards turn one. It's Buemi. Duval. Da Costa. Cross. Di Grassi.
01:40Then Rosio Senna Apt and Bird the top ten. So it could start from Sam Bird actually then because he started in 14th place.
01:47Yeah he's made up some spots here. As I made the point this morning though you know we're talking about a lot of lifting and coasting.
01:52You know usable energy that kind of stuff. It's just another limiting factor. The same as grip or power. All those things.
01:59It's just they've got to go as quickly as they possibly can while staying within their usable energy.
02:04And it's a real knack to it. And we've seen the guys that are very very good at it.
02:09This year though having different drivetrains. We're seeing some of the companies have a little advantage over the others as well.
02:16I'm just trying to keep an eye out for Jean-Eric Verne because he hasn't come through on the timing screens.
02:21But whether that's a transponder problem rather than him not being there. I'll try and keep an eye out.
02:27Oh no there he is. So maybe it was Verne that collided at turn one. And that is what broke the car. Verne is out of the race.
02:33Dejected looking there isn't he. Yeah absolutely. So Sebastian Buemi leads. Duval second. Da Costa third at the moment.
02:40And no one's really holding anyone up at the moment. Da Costa seems to be keeping pace.
02:45This is this sort of we've seen the races playing out. The first sort of little bit here.
02:51People take it nice and easy just to get rid of the land. And then it starts going a bit nuts after that.
02:57Down towards turn one. Sam Bird is lining up a move here.
03:01Here's how you vote for FanBoost. You vote online at fiaformulary.com slash FanBoost or you go on social media.
03:10Using hashtag FanBoost plus your driver name. And it's Oliver Turvey who's at the top at the moment.
03:16Great battling going on.
03:20So Sebastian Buemi continues to lead. One and a half seconds clear of Loic Duval.
03:26Then it's Antonio Felix da Costa. Nico Pross then in that fourth spot. But he's got Lucas Di Grassi right up behind him.
03:32Di Grassi looks very very comfortable there doesn't he. And this morning Nico Pross just didn't flow in qualifying.
03:38He just was struggling every corner really. And yeah we saw the results. But yeah. Lucas is looking kind of close there.
03:47We're already getting messages on the team radio talking about the energy saving.
03:52And Robin Franks and Simone Di Silvestro both on the radio to the Andretti team telling them that how their energy saving plan is going.
03:59Di Silvestro actually is being held up behind Nick Heidfeld. She's dropped a long way off the back of everyone else.
04:04Look for her coming through. Well we just cut away from it. But just as she was coming up towards the hairpin.
04:08Heidfeld is about two seconds off the pack in front. So that's one to keep an eye out for.
04:13As they come towards the final corner at turn 12. Big bumps there. But they have resurfaced some parts of that track.
04:19Yeah. It's better than last year. But turn 11 the corner before there you kind of thought it's kind of a nothing corner.
04:24Well that's the corner that Lucas Di Grassi tried to knock the wall down this morning.
04:29Yeah. So that's more challenging than it maybe looks at first glance.
04:35Absolutely. So look at now Nico Prost. He's going side by side with Antonio Felix da Costa.
04:40Coming down into the right-hander of turn 3. Not close enough. And Di Grassi.
04:44But this has opened the door for Di Grassi, isn't it?
04:46Exactly. He's going to be waiting to try and take advantage of that if possible.
04:50As they get on the brakes into 4 now. I always think turn 3, it reminds me of Lisboa at Macau.
04:54And I don't really know why. But it just kind of looks similar.
04:57It's not that tight though, is it? Lisboa really tightens up. But this one's caught a few people out so far.
05:02Here's a look at the start again then. And oh, really good getaway from Buemi. He was absolutely on it, wasn't he?
05:08Yeah. He got a good reaction time there.
05:11Now keep an eye out for Jean-Eric Verne then in the DS Virgin car.
05:14Coming down the inside of Nick Heidefelt. And the contact's going to come. Oh, they went 3 wide in.
05:20And Verne really kind of had nowhere to go. He kind of got squeezed between him and Villeneuve.
05:24Yeah, Jacques Villeneuve was right down the inside there with a late, late, late move.
05:29Yeah, so that's where the contact happens. Heidefelt kept going. Oh, you can see front right from Verne.
05:35So it was actually the contact with Villeneuve that damaged the car rather than the contact with Nick Heidefelt.
05:40This is the view on board with Sam Bird. And we're going to see it all unfold in front of us on the run down towards the first corner.
05:46And Jeff got a really good start. They're looking at him, weaving around. Just watch. It just tightens up.
05:51And they all want to go at the same point. Boom. And there's the result. Nothing he can do.
05:56Fastest man on the track at the moment is Stefan Sarrazan for Venturi. He's just on the fastest first sector of anyone.
06:02And there's Verne pulling off the track down at turn three and pulling out of the race.
06:07The frustration continues with DS Virgin guys. Absolutely.
06:13Remy leads it then. Two seconds clear now of Loic Duval. Then Antonio Felix da Costa.
06:18Bruno Senna is under big pressure here from Sam Bird in their battle over what is ninth position.
06:23Bird can overtake here. He over to Goriel Serbia for the lead of the race last year.
06:28And now he's trying to do something similar to Bruno Senna. He's looking good so far, isn't he?
06:32He's looking pretty racy. Oh, Senna got sideways there. So is Sam going to have a look down the inside here into seven?
06:37Pretty dicey move if he does. There's your lifting coast a little bit. Not close enough.
06:42Yeah. Into the air, Quinn. I think. It's just one and there's Oliver Turvey.
06:47Oliver Turvey's gone off and I think that's at turn five. It is. Yeah.
06:51And so Oliver Turvey in the wall and I wonder if that could be a safety car situation.
06:56Here's a look at the replay. He's got him by himself. Swings in to the left.
07:01Right there. That was odd, odd accident. He moved the barrier.
07:06I can't believe it. From the straight, from the start, the throttle was sticking on, so...
07:11Which was pushing me forwards. It was completely unpredictable at the mid corner.
07:16Same problem that PK had in China. Yeah. That's unfortunate. Here we go. Safety car.
07:21So safety car is out. That closes the gaps up and this will be crucial for their energy saving as well
07:26because they'll be able to run a little bit slower and the cooling as well will be helped.
07:33But you can see, it looked strange to us and then he says, I can't believe, I don't know what happened there.
07:38Yeah. It looked like he just drove into the wall. Yeah. But with the throttle hanging, absolutely that's what's going to happen there.
07:45It's a fly-by-wire, clearly throttle system connected to the motors on the DS...
07:52The next TV. Yeah. TCR car. But yeah, not a good situation at all.
07:57No, that's a scary situation when that happens. Luckily it happened in a relatively slow area of the track.
08:05They moved the TechPro barrier a bit, which is probably what caused the safety car as much as anything.
08:11Yeah. So Oliver Turvey out. Well, yes, he is out of the race. He's taken off the wheel now.
08:17And the Qualcomm safety car is deployed.
08:20And the other thing for Turvey is that, well, just to mention what you referenced with Piquet,
08:28was last time out in Beijing, in through the pit lane, Nelson Piquet said his throttle stuck open
08:36and it just, from being on the pit limiter, it just went boom and spun his car around and stuck him in the wall.
08:41And then kept drilling the wall because it was quite a big shunt, wasn't it?
08:44For 30 miles an hour. Yeah, for 30 miles an hour.
08:48OK, this helps guys like Sam Bird, who made some really good moves at the start of the race there,
08:52but he's closed everything up.
08:54It's also helped Sarazan because he's now on to the back of the rest of the gang.
08:58Here's the power that everybody's using, the usable energy, I'm sorry.
09:00We've got Ab to use a bit more than everybody else.
09:03The rest of them are really similar.
09:06Yeah. Piquet and Heidfeld a bit more, 72%.
09:10Silvestro's plan was to try and stay out and conserve energy a lot more,
09:14but maybe now that she's in a bit of a battle, they will start to, they will start to push.
09:21You can see the track rubbering in.
09:23You see that the track will just start rubbing out the hairpin.
09:26There's the Mahindra team and Bruno Senna is in ninth place at the moment.
09:31They're tied at the 14th.
09:34Yes, so that's the end of the race for Turvey.
09:37Hopefully this, they're in sector three now.
09:40So this will probably be the penultimate lap behind the safety car, I would have thought.
09:44Because it looks as though they've pretty much got rid of the car now.
09:47So Bremi, Duval, Da Costa all on 70% up there.
09:51Nico Prost, Degrassi and Franks on 69.
09:56As they really crawl around behind the safety car.
10:01There's someone keeping them well to the right there.
10:03Is that an Aguri car?
10:04Yeah, it's an Aguri car.
10:05And it must be Nathaniel Berton, who's running in 12th place at the moment.
10:10Communicating with the pen.
10:11I don't know, maybe his radio's on his way out.
10:14Because temperatures are a concern here, but running behind a car in front doesn't actually harm your temperatures too much.
10:24And let's just have a look at this.
10:26This is Bruno Senna.
10:28He's pulled to the right hand side.
10:30I can hear you.
10:34Yeah, there's heat.
10:36I can hear you, but you can't hear me.
10:38Yeah, he's wanting them to talk, I think.
10:40And he's clearly got a communication issue.
10:42Maybe they're saying to him, can you hear us, Bruno?
10:45And he's going, yeah.
10:46And they're going, Bruno.
10:47Yeah, we would have a whole sort of system of hand signals to make if the radio went out.
10:54Which 200 and something miles an hour on an oval, when you put your hand out the car to make the signal, could get a bit interesting.
10:59But under safety car here, I think Bruno's safe.
11:02But that could compromise his race a little bit.
11:15So that's Senna being told the situation of the race.
11:18And we won't hear Senna reply because it seems as though he's got a bit of a problem there.
11:22So we're on lap 7 of 33.
11:24You know, as they're behind safety car, they're not getting the same volume of air through the radiator.
11:28So there's a safety car lights out.
11:30So it could get the temps up a little bit more.
11:32But obviously the power unit is not under, or the battery under the same pressure.
11:36It will go through turn 7.
11:38So the safety car will be coming in this lap.
11:40And the racing will get going again with Buemi leading Duval 2nd, Da Costa 3rd.
11:45Get the brakes warm here.
11:46You don't want cold brakes going up into turn 1.
11:48No, absolutely not.
11:50Turn 9 now, getting ready for the hairpin.
11:52I would imagine he'll start.
11:54Buemi will go as he gets out of this hairpin here.
11:56Safety car's not that far up the road.
11:58And he has gone.
12:00And Duval was not really that close to him.
12:02The race gets underway again.
12:04The guys in the hairpin are just sort of sitting there.
12:06There's nothing they can do.
12:07Exactly.
12:08So up towards the final corner comes Sebastian Buemi with green flag racing again.
12:12Good start from Da Costa.
12:13He's attacking, isn't he?
12:14He's right up behind Loic Duval on the run down towards turn 1.
12:18He pulls out to look to the inside line.
12:20He's not close enough.
12:21Nico Prost is still weaving.
12:22And he was a little bit tardy on the restart.
12:25Yellow flag at turn 10.
12:27Oh, and straight across there goes Loic Duval.
12:30Is that going to be an opportunity for Antonio Felix Da Costa?
12:33No, not quite.
12:34Because I guess that's the bonus is if you go straight on at the chicane.
12:37You're not going to lose that much momentum.
12:39Bruno Senna to an issue at turn 10.
12:42Yeah, absolutely right.
12:43So Bruno Senna has obviously had a moment there.
12:46Not a good day for the Mahindra guys so far.
12:49Absolutely not.
12:50Lap 8 of 33 then.
12:52And they were saying on the radio to...
12:54Oh, and there's the look from Di Grassi.
12:55That's a late look.
12:56That's too late.
12:57Yes, exactly.
12:59So through they come.
13:01Buemi leading the way still.
13:03Duval second.
13:05Antonio Felix Da Costa is in third position.
13:08And Da Costa is really having to defend.
13:11There are our Fan Boost winners then.
13:13Oliver Turvey for what it's worth.
13:15Nelson Piquet who is running in 12th position.
13:19And Nick Heidefelt for what it's worth as well.
13:22Because he's had a difficult start to the race.
13:24And look at this, how close it is between Loic Duval and Antonio Felix Da Costa.
13:29Coming through the hairpin.
13:31Those two running absolutely nose to tail.
13:33Da Costa has used the same amount of energy as Loic Duval.
13:37As the cars get on the brakes and slide their way through the final corner at turn 12.
13:42Di Grassi still hasn't managed to get past.
13:44And you can see...
13:45Pross is starting to just edge up on him here, isn't he?
13:49And bringing De Grassi with him.
13:50So it's businesses picking up second through fifth there.
13:53Yep.
13:54Into the chicane they come.
13:55Two second lead for Loic Duval.
13:57And it was the middle sector.
13:59Duval lost an awful lot of time.
14:00He matched Duemi in the first and second ones.
14:02Pross going to the outside of Antonio Felix Da Costa.
14:05Coming down into turn three.
14:06It's not going to happen.
14:07But can he get the cut back just like Sam Bird did last year.
14:10Up the inside into four.
14:11And Da Costa tries to move across.
14:13But Pross has made the move stick.
14:15And gets up into third position.
14:17And he will now start to hunt down Loic Duval in front of him.
14:19How quickly before Di Grassi gets through?
14:21Not quickly.
14:22Yeah, Da Costa is a bit of a roadblock now, isn't he?
14:24Unfortunately.
14:25Did Di Grassi hit Pross there out of turn three and kind of punch it?
14:30It almost looked like he hit him just as Pross was trying for the cut back.
14:33But great move from Nico Prost.
14:35You hear him lifting and posting still a little bit there.
14:37Di Grassi has got to get past him here.
14:40Otherwise he's going to really compromise his race.
14:42Yeah, absolutely.
14:43Here's a look at the repo.
14:44This is what happened at the hairpin then.
14:46And here is Di Grassi.
14:48Boom.
14:49Little nudge on the back of Nico Prost.
14:51I'm looking for Senna here in a second.
14:54Well, I think this was after the restart.
14:56So Senna would have been in here with Sam Bird.
14:58Yeah.
14:59And that's why there's that massive gap back to Sam Bird.
15:01And here we go.
15:02Whoa.
15:03It'll be right here on the apex.
15:05There you go.
15:06Oh, did a bit of damage as well.
15:07Bit of damage.
15:08He's brave doing that though.
15:09If you're going to hit them, you've got to hit them with a nose cone.
15:11Apparently.
15:16Two and a half seconds clear of Loic Duval.
15:19But Nico Prost has caught right back up to the back of him.
15:21He's going like a bat out of hell, Nico Prost.
15:23He took the words right out of my mouth there, Jack.
15:25Lap 10 of 33.
15:2624 laps to go.
15:28And Sebastian when he continues to lead the way.
15:33Two and a half seconds clear of Duval.
15:35But Duval is under big pressure now from Prost.
15:38And there is the Frenchman who raced so strongly in the early half of the first half of last year that since then he's struggled.
15:47Ever since he won his race in Miami, he never finished on the podium again.
15:50No, this is where we see the advantage or what advantages the Renault has, if any, with the E-Dams guys.
15:55Let's see how much Prost can get past Duval here and start chasing after his teammate.
16:02Through turn seven.
16:04Absolutely nose to tail.
16:05Antonio Felix da Costa, since he got passed by Prost, isn't actually under that much pressure from Lucas Di Grassi.
16:11I wonder if Di Grassi got the word from the pits that, okay, just calm it a little bit here.
16:15You're just using a bit too much.
16:17Did you see the marbles through turn nine there?
16:20Yeah.
16:21Never seen that before with the Formula E cars.
16:23Lots of marbles.
16:24Next lap here we'll see the marbles in turn nine.
16:27And that's something, as I say, we have not seen.
16:30That 10 of 33 here in round two of the FIA Formula E championship.
16:34And there is Duval in second.
16:35Then it's Nico Prost.
16:36Then it's Antonio Felix da Costa.
16:38Then it's Lucas Di Grassi.
16:40And you're seeing Da Costa pulling out in the straight.
16:42I think he's trying to get any clear air he can into those radiators.
16:45Keep the battery cool.
16:47It's not as bad in these cars because there's not an internal combustion engine in the back.
16:51That's pumping out, you know, hundreds of degrees of heat.
16:53You're not driving into really hot air.
16:56No.
16:57Like you are, you know, like you are with an internal combustion engine.
16:59But still, it's not clear air.
17:01You know, you get the effect of the lack of air because of the, you know, the turbulence from the car in front.
17:07Look how close Di Grassi is.
17:10Loic Duval is asking his team whether he can use more energy to try and get away from Nico Prost and not be under as much pressure.
17:17Here's Heidfeld.
17:18Here's Simone de Silvestro up the inside of Nelson Piquet Jr.
17:21And Simone de Silvestro takes 13th place away.
17:24And Stefan Sarrazan says merci very much.
17:26I'll go through as well.
17:27Not quite there he did it, but he did do it later on in the lap.
17:30Sarrazan's up to 14th place.
17:32Simone de Silvestro up to 13th from the back of the grid.
17:34So, good drive from her in the other Andretti car.
17:37I'm not sure if that isn't marbles, but it's actually the surface of the track breaking up.
17:41And it's actually marbles made out of asphalt as opposed to rubber.
17:44Okay, interesting.
17:45If you listen to the noise it's making.
17:46Like gravel.
17:47Like gravel, yeah.
17:48Yeah, got some surface break up, which is, you know, is a common thing.
17:52With the amount of grip these tires produce and start ripping the surface up there.
17:55Everybody really nice and clean onto that front straight there.
17:58So important to get a good run out of there so you don't get past into turn one.
18:03A third of the way through the race now.
18:07And Buemi leads it.
18:08Duval is second and Nico Prost is third.
18:10Like I say, Antonio Felix da Costa is more than happily staying with this gang.
18:14Then there's a gap back to Robin Franks who's under pressure from Daniel App and Jerome D'Ambrosio and Sam Bird.
18:20As they come through the right-hander at turn three and then start to drop down the hill.
18:25Robin Franks is very impressive there in the Amlon Andretti car, isn't he?
18:28P6.
18:29It's not the second Formula E race.
18:31And he's really, you know, taking the...
18:33There's the slippery surface flag there, turn nine, which is probably that issue we're talking about.
18:38Yeah, so that's one that the drivers will have to keep an eye on.
18:42And there's a ready-made excuse as well.
18:44And Stefan Sarazan has got past Simone de Silvestre.
18:47So Sarazan, who was due to start this race from second place, has now managed to get past de Silvestre
18:52and up into 13th position on that last lap, probably, I imagine, on the run down towards the first corner.
18:58So Sarazan almost up into the points and he's only about five or six seconds off the back of his teammate, Jacques Villeneuve.
19:05So, just stuff from Sarazan, as you'd expect, really.
19:09But there's Duval, who has now appeared to pull away just a little bit from Nico Prost.
19:14They come towards the final corner. On board we go with Logue Duval.
19:17He's only 1.6 seconds off Sebastian Buemi and was a second quicker on the last lap than the Swiss driver up in front.
19:25Buemi must have made a mistake on that last lap because he lost a second compared to his best time.
19:30So, we'll keep an eye on that one. But here comes Duval, bouncing over the kerbs.
19:35The more laps they do, the more greedy they get them with the kerbs, the more kerbs they're using in turns one and two.
19:39They're great to see. You can see the cars actually flying through the second corner there, launched off that inside kerb.
19:45Look how close they get to the wall there, exit at turn three.
19:49Bit of lifting coasters. Downhill, quite downhill. The camera doesn't really show it, but really quite downhill.
19:53Let's hear the radio here from Duval.
19:55We've got it open, so if he talks we will hear it.
19:58And they did tell him he can use some more power.
20:01This part of the track here, lots of crown to the road because of as much rain as they get here.
20:07And so it makes it quite difficult. You'll see the cars jumping over the crown.
20:10And now you watch him here as he goes into turn seven up and over the crown, down into the next undulation and back up the hill again.
20:16Gives the suspension a good workout, gives the engineers a headache as well as the drivers.
20:20It's great, there's a track, isn't it?
20:22It really is. You hear that? That's the track breaking up there.
20:25Now into the hairpin.
20:27Such a weird thing with a Formula E car. We've talked about it in qualifying.
20:32But you've got to take your hand off the wheel because normally half a turn of lock is as much as you'll ever put into a car.
20:38They're putting almost a whole turn of lock in to get around that hairpin.
20:41Makes it quite difficult because the wheel is not a circle as you see. It's sort of a butterfly shape.
20:45Eight, six, seven.
20:48Okay, so that's Duval giving his energy readings back.
20:51He's got a couple more percent than Nico Pross behind him.
20:54And the Costa's looking in a reasonable shape as well.
20:57But if you're...
20:58Eight, six, seven. Did you get it?
21:00Well, we got it, Loic, even if the team didn't.
21:03Copy.
21:04Yep, they did get it.
21:05So one or two percent, it's not going to make the ginormous difference.
21:10You're not going to be able to do another lap on one or two percent.
21:13You've got to find another lap from somewhere because the race is longer.
21:15Well, yes, absolutely.
21:17But in terms of if you're battling with your rivals, if you've got an extra two percent,
21:21that just means you'll be able to push more on your sort of in-lap as well.
21:24No, exactly.
21:25And you get that frustration even with, you know, gasoline-powered cars,
21:28traditional normally aspirated engines.
21:29You've gone along and you've gained a couple of points of a gallon or whatever, points of a litre,
21:37and you can go a couple of corners for them, which doesn't help you.
21:39Yeah.
21:40You've got to either do a full lap more or you've got to use it all up.
21:43You've got to use it all up.
21:44You've got to use it all up.
21:45Sebastian Buemi sets the fastest middle sector of anyone.
21:47He is driving superbly up at the front.
21:49Lucas Di Grassi in fifth place, though, not really still making that many inroads on Antonio Felix Da Costa.
21:55And Da Costa in the Aguri entry has used, well, they're pretty much the same.
22:01Well, no, Da Costa's used slightly less than Di Grassi as well.
22:04So this is a really strong run from Antonio Felix Da Costa.
22:07Piquet's going for one more lap, isn't he?
22:09So is Nick Heidfeldt.
22:10Yeah.
22:11They've really, really been very clever with their energy use there.
22:15And Heidfeldt and Piquet both have the fan boost as well to use,
22:19so that'll give them an extra sprint in their second car.
22:22Yeah.
22:23But the thing is, clearly they don't want to use the fan boost in the first car.
22:26They're only getting the benefit of it once because it uses energy.
22:30Yep.
22:31You can't use the old fan boost from the first car now.
22:34And lap 15 of 33.
22:37And the process is down to 20% now.
22:40So that's getting to the point of being a lap behind Guemi.
22:45In general, as a general rule, seven or eight percent a lap.
22:48Yeah, eight percent, right.
22:49So if you're five percent down, you're getting close to dodgy town.
22:54Yep.
22:55No, absolutely agreed.
22:56I don't know what's going on there because it's not like he's really put the pressure on Duval either.
23:02This is the problem.
23:03With these cars, with any racing car, the balance of it has to be right in order to allow you to save fuel.
23:09Because you don't want to be using brakes all the time.
23:11If the car has got understeering, the front is sliding.
23:13The front of the car is sliding.
23:14Oh, big moment there for Antonio Felix da Costa.
23:17That's going to catch somebody out.
23:19But yeah, if you've got the front of the car sliding, it's understeering.
23:21It really limits your ability to save fuel.
23:24Oh, and there's Sebastian Buemi.
23:25Sebastian Buemi is slowing.
23:27The race leader.
23:28And has he run into problems for the Renault team?
23:30Unbelievable stuff.
23:31Buemi was commanding this race.
23:33Into the pits, meanwhile, has gone.
23:35I think it might have been Nico Prost in the other Renault car that dived in.
23:39So Prost has come into the pits already.
23:42Loic duval takes the lead.
23:44Da Costa second.
23:45Degrassi third.
23:46Do you think the Renault team have reacted to Brahmys breaking down?
23:49Prost needs a safety car here.
23:50Brahmys going in now too.
23:51So he's clearly got an issue.
23:53Well, we've opened up the team radio.
23:55You can error.
23:57I don't know why.
23:59I'm arriving now, that's what I got.
24:02So Sebastian Buemi pulling down.
24:06And so why has Prost come in to change now?
24:08Because he was hoping for a safety car.
24:09It's a throw of the dice.
24:10If he gets a safety car, he's in the lead.
24:13Yeah.
24:14He's jumped them.
24:15He's not going to jump them now, is he?
24:16But as it is, Renault now are absolutely in trouble.
24:20I know where you were going with that one, Jack.
24:22They're completely in trouble.
24:24You know the...
24:25One, two, three, go.
24:29Three, two, one, go.
24:31There we go.
24:32There we go.
24:33Was the instruction there.
24:34So Loic Duval leads.
24:35It cost a second.
24:36It cost a second.
24:37What a rapid turnaround.
24:39I'll tell you, this turn nine is going to catch somebody out.
24:42I've said it already.
24:43It's going to catch somebody out before the end.
24:44Here goes Nico Prost leaving turn two in his second car now.
24:48He is going to have the energy save like it's his last day of energy.
24:53As is Buemi.
24:54Yeah.
24:55And Buemi was doing a nice job with the energy.
24:57Look at Abton P5 at 10% energy left.
25:00Yeah, Abton's going to have to come in pretty soon.
25:02So this man is leading the race now.
25:04Loic Duval for Dragon.
25:05I just find it odd that Prost gambled on the safety car when it was his teammate.
25:11You know, surely the team would know the situation.
25:14He can't react that quickly, Jack.
25:15There's no way.
25:16So watch Buemi here.
25:18Comes down into the hairpin.
25:19All looking good.
25:20Gets on the brakes, switches it down to its first gear.
25:23Through the hairpin.
25:24We were watching Antonio Felix Dacosta chatting about him.
25:26And then suddenly Buemi stopped.
25:27Yeah.
25:28Wow.
25:29Aft in and Burton in as well.
25:32This is what's going to happen though.
25:34When you're pushing the boundaries.
25:35Look at Prost almost hit the wall avoiding his teammate in 11.
25:38You're pushing the boundaries of technology.
25:40This hasn't been done before.
25:41We're doing here with Formula E with these new electric motors.
25:45And that whole drivetrain thing.
25:47And there's going to be teething problems.
25:48We were so surprised in China when pretty much everybody finished the race without a technical issue.
25:52Yep.
25:53No mechanical problems at all in the Chinese race.
25:58Oh, and no movement for Daniel Apt either.
26:01This is a slow pit stop.
26:02You heard the countdown.
26:03And then just a clicking sound.
26:05And Daniel Apt is in trouble as well.
26:06And he can't believe it.
26:08So Duval leads Dacosta second, Degrassi third.
26:11Robin Freint's up into fourth position now.
26:14No hydraulics.
26:15But you could hear the hydraulic.
26:17The gear shift here comes Duval.
26:19In comes Duval.
26:20Everyone's going to be in now then.
26:22Apart from maybe Robin Freint's.
26:24Probably Nick Heidefelt and probably Nelson Piquet.
26:27Yes, Freint stays out.
26:28Freint has been a brilliant job of saving energy while still going quickly.
26:33Yep.
26:34So Robin Freint has got one more lap to go.
26:36In comes Antonio Felix Dacosta then.
26:38He swaps over his cars.
26:41So the order we had was Duval leading the race.
26:47And then Dacosta up into second position.
26:50As they now swap over.
26:53Degrassi was right there with him.
26:55Yep.
26:56You see Duval swapping cars here.
26:59There's a minimum pit stop time in the pits.
27:02That 58 seconds.
27:0358 seconds.
27:04It allows him to put the seat belts on.
27:06Well not slowly.
27:07It allows him enough time to make sure that everything's tight.
27:10And there's no safety being left out.
27:13You know, belts left slack and stuff in the interest of time.
27:16It allows him enough time to do all that stuff.
27:18That's the idea behind it.
27:19So wait for Loic Duval to leave the pits.
27:22Is it going to be a clean exit for him?
27:24Degrassi might have leapfrogged him here.
27:25And he has.
27:26Degrassi is in front of Loic Duval and Dacosta's in front of them both.
27:31So what has happened there to Loic Duval?
27:33A really slow pit stop.
27:34He's lost two positions.
27:35What time was the pit stop?
27:37Here we go.
27:38Let's have a look.
27:39Was it slow or the other two guys quit Duval?
27:41One minute four.
27:42Oh dear.
27:43They lost six seconds in the pit stop there, the Dragon team.
27:46That is not good.
27:47All that hard work.
27:49I can just give it away.
27:50Sam Bird is down to one percent.
27:52Jerome D'Ambrosio is down to two percent.
27:55So those two are going to be very close.
27:56But Franks is in the pits now.
27:58And D'Ambrosio is in and Bird is in.
28:00So they all make it through okay.
28:02So the race has been led, and will be led here pretty quickly,
28:07by a Euro car of Antonio Felix da Costa.
28:11Absolutely.
28:12An amazing drive from Antonio Felix da Costa.
28:14We'll see how quick the likes of frames are in the pits.
28:17And Bird made it into the pits.
28:18Did he make it into the pits?
28:19Yeah.
28:20With enough.
28:21He still had one percent left, so that was all right.
28:23Can't that close with the DS Virgin guys.
28:26Da Costa lost about three seconds in the pit lane.
28:29Here you can see Sam Bird getting strapped in.
28:32Sam's a man of average height, and it's actually a big advantage here.
28:35Getting them into the car, you know, in these pit stops.
28:38Those are things like keep the steering wheel on, all that sort of stuff.
28:41There's the Costa eventually to take the lead.
28:44Piquet is now leading the race.
28:45Yeah, Nelson hasn't come into the pits still.
28:47The next EV TCR car.
28:48So out of the pits goes Franks.
28:50Sam Bird waiting to head out of the pits.
28:52But this means, I think, that we will see Antonio Felix da Costa take the lead of the race effectively.
28:58As he comes through the first few corners, we've still got Nelson Piquet out there.
29:02And there's Nico Prost.
29:05So Nico Prost actually is still in the lead.
29:08Prost is in the lead, but he's going to have way less usable energy.
29:12If Prost can make it to the end, as you say, he's going to have to save so much.
29:16And this is, to me, this is legitimately the battle for the lead between these guys.
29:20Duval's going to be got steam coming out of his ears, isn't he?
29:24Yeah, absolutely.
29:25Just giving away the lead like that and a problem at the pit stop.
29:28So, leading the way is Nico Prost effectively.
29:31We've still got Nelson Piquet out there, but he's yet to come into the pits,
29:34which he will be doing in a couple of moments' time.
29:36Here comes Lucas Di Grassi trying to get past Antonio Felix da Costa.
29:39Down into turn seven, and Da Costa there has gone.
29:42It's better for my race to manage the energy than go to Shuntsville with Di Grassi.
29:47Lucas round the outside there at turn seven.
29:49Fairly brave move, made it stick.
29:51And Piquet stayed out at game.
29:54Seven percent, what did we say?
29:55Eight percent was the number for one lap.
29:56Yeah.
29:57This is going to be close for Nelson here.
29:58It is, and the team are waiting for him.
30:01And he's now on 51.
30:04He's now on his 20th lap of the race, Nelson Piquet.
30:07Fox now, Fox now, okay.
30:08If he can make this work.
30:12Okay.
30:13He may be reasonable in there.
30:17He's going to be able to just turn the wick up in the second with the second car.
30:24And whilst, you know, it's not going to win him the race,
30:27it may be able to score him some points on the strategy.
30:29At this point, he would take it, wouldn't he?
30:31He's been so downbeat.
30:32Look how slow he's going here, trying to manage that energy.
30:35Nick Hydefelt was four seconds slower, by the looks of it on our screen,
30:40than he was meant to be in the pit stop.
30:42So he may be getting a drive-through penalty.
30:44He was 54 seconds when the time is 58.
30:48It's not official yet.
30:49And a shake of the head from Dilbag-Gil.
30:51And it sounded like they might be hearing us there.
30:54Maybe I've just told Dilbag to be sorry about that if that's the case.
30:57Nelson Piquet is going to be coming into the pits in a couple of moments' time.
31:00Here's a look at Di Grassi getting past Da Costa.
31:04Great move.
31:05That was all about getting the drive out of the corner before.
31:08Yep, and this is on board with Da Costa.
31:11You'll see Di Grassi coming to the left of us.
31:14And he just lifts the coaster a tiny bit less later on the brakes
31:19and goes past Da Costa.
31:21So into the pits there goes Nelson Piquet-Gil.
31:23He's made it, yeah.
31:242% ahead there.
31:25So this will be interesting to see where he comes out
31:27as he makes his way all the way down the end of the pit.
31:30So now we're going to see Nico Prost out of the final corner
31:33somehow leading this race
31:35despite making a pit stop a good 2 laps earlier than anyone else.
31:39What is his advantage over Lucas Di Grassi as they cross the line?
31:42Not enough.
31:433.5 seconds.
31:44So next time once Piquet's done
31:46we'll get the usable energy percentages back up
31:48and we'll have a look and see what the difference is there.
31:51As Piquet gets himself strapped in with his special Malaysia helmet.
31:55Both Dragons now.
31:57This has worked out well for D'Ambrosio
31:58because he's got him passed of Robin Flames.
32:00So both Dragons are up into 4th and 5th
32:02exactly the same positions they were last time out.
32:04This is Sebastian Buemi.
32:059th place up behind Nick Heidfeldt
32:07who we believe is going to be served with a penalty at some point
32:10because his pit stop was really short.
32:12Buemi's coasting from halfway down the street.
32:14Yeah.
32:15It's just going to have to be...
32:16It's almost impossible to do what they're trying to do
32:18but they had no option really with his car.
32:20Cross car they took a strategy gamble, it didn't work.
32:23So Piquet now has come out of the pits
32:26but he's down in 12th position.
32:27What he needs is a...
32:29Oh my goodness, Buemi's having to crawl around.
32:32Yeah.
32:33So that means Nick O'Prost is going to have to be doing something similar
32:36and in fact the gap is down to 2.4 seconds.
32:38So as seconds come...
32:40Whoa! Nick Heidfeldt!
32:41Woof!
32:42That's very impressive because as we talked about
32:44as slow as the steering rack is with these cars.
32:47Let's see, watch the steering come out of his hands.
32:49Oh!
32:50That is...
32:51That save of the season so far.
32:53Save of any season for me.
32:55Last year, this year.
32:56If you give him 10 million quid he couldn't do it again.
32:59But...
33:00He tried.
33:01There we go.
33:02There goes Sam Bird passing in there.
33:03Yep.
33:04So behind them is...
33:05Niko...
33:06Sebastian Buemi.
33:07So Prost on that last lap was 1.4 seconds slower than Lucas Degrassi.
33:14So Degrassi is reeling him in.
33:16This is Heidfeldt who's running in 8th place.
33:18But...
33:19And there's Heidfeldt waving as well.
33:21I don't think he has radio either.
33:22That's it.
33:24I don't know what...
33:26Radio check, radio check.
33:29So it seems as though both the Mahindra cars are in trouble.
33:32Yesterday when they were doing the shakedown,
33:34he was talking about the plug for the earphones.
33:37Absolutely.
33:38So...
33:39Maybe it's haunted them again.
33:42So now let's hear about...
33:44From Alain Prost.
33:45What on earth went on in Renault land?
33:50Alain Prost, first of all,
33:52what actually happened now on track to Sebastian Buemi?
33:55And then also with Nico Prost pit stop,
33:57was that a sort of a strategic manoeuvre there
33:59because of the yellow flag?
34:01No, to be honest,
34:02we had a software problem with Sebastian
34:05and we brought Nicolas one lap before
34:09because of a temperature problem.
34:11So we may be able to manage it,
34:14but it's going to be very tight.
34:16So the tables have turned slightly?
34:18Sorry?
34:19The tables have turned slightly.
34:21Yeah, no, it's...
34:22We knew that it would be more difficult this weekend,
34:24but it's a tough race.
34:26It's interesting.
34:27Nothing finished.
34:30We see.
34:31We are...
34:32I don't know what to say.
34:33You know, it's going to be very,
34:34very much in the last two, three laps
34:36that we're going to see if we can make it or not.
34:38I would be very pleased for Nicolas for sure.
34:40And for Sebastian,
34:41we're going to try to make the best lap
34:43and get some points for him.
34:44So we need to get points anyway.
34:46We know which is good for the championship.
34:48Which is good for the championship.
34:49It's much, much closer than we thought anyway.
34:52Which is a good new for us.
34:54Thanks very much.
34:56So, Alain Prost there.
34:58Basically, it's amazing that they had an electrical problem with Buemi
35:02and had not managed the battery temperature
35:06as well as everyone else had
35:08because he still had 16% or so of usable energy remaining.
35:12I totally wasn't happy.
35:13Just as Alain Prost was talking about that,
35:15Buemi just did the fastest lap of the race.
35:17Yeah.
35:18Which is, we're saying, is championship points.
35:20There's now a slippery surface flag at turns 6, 9 and 9.1.
35:24So this track surface is probably breaking up
35:26and a drive-through penalty for Nick Heideville.
35:28Yes, as we saw on the screen.
35:29Here's the battle for the lead of the race.
35:31Coming up into the hairpin right-hander.
35:33Nico Prost is leading,
35:34but right out behind him is Lucas Di Grassi
35:36and now the queue is forming
35:38because we've got Da Costa in there as well and Duval.
35:41You see Lucas Di Grassi adjusting the power setting
35:44on the dashboard there.
35:46And then Prost is defending like crazy here.
35:48He's got to.
35:49It's his only option.
35:50But Di Grassi gets the drive,
35:51coming out of the final corner and pulls alongside.
35:53Down the start, finish straight.
35:55Absolutely wheel to wheel.
35:56Prost holding the lead at the moment.
35:57Watch out for Da Costa because he could be lurking
35:59on the inside where they get to turn one.
36:01Di Grassi up the inside, into the lead of the race.
36:04Prost drops down to second.
36:05Antonio Felix Da Costa slides in
36:07and just keeps it together.
36:09He's in third place.
36:10Da Costa's got to get past Prost here.
36:12He's got to do it quickly.
36:14Otherwise, the rate that Nico's got to save energy,
36:17his race is going to be done, I think.
36:19Yeah, we just saw the energy there.
36:20He had about 10% less than everyone else.
36:22So we're on board with Antonio Felix Da Costa,
36:24who's going to be the next man to try and make a move on Nico Prost.
36:27And he is pushing hard.
36:29Amlan Carr's pretty oversteering on the power, isn't it?
36:32We saw him catch him a couple of times.
36:33Now, interestingly, D'Ambrosio has dropped well back
36:36from Loic Duval.
36:37He's 6 points.
36:38He's 5.2 seconds back from his teammate.
36:40I think a lot of that was in the pit stops already
36:42as he came out of the pits.
36:43It was already that sort of gap.
36:44Because he gained the position from Frentz,
36:46but he wasn't close enough.
36:47Duval actually hasn't got that much usable energy remaining either.
36:50And D'Ambrosio's looking in quite a strong position
36:52as far as that is concerned.
36:54On board with Antonio Felix Da Costa then.
36:56Through the left-hander at eight.
36:58And then down into the hairpin.
37:01In order not to hit those marbles we've talked about
37:03with the surface breaking up,
37:04we've got to get so close to that apex wall
37:07that could get interesting there.
37:10I'll be surprised if somebody doesn't end up in the wall
37:13there on the outside of Turn 9,
37:14as we saw Bruno Senna do last year.
37:16Now, is this going to be Antonio Felix Da Costa's opportunity?
37:19Prost seems to get a better drive out of that
37:21than he did last time through.
37:23Probably find Prost as really lifting and coasting in places
37:25he doesn't think Da Costa can pass him.
37:27and then giving it something down the main street there.
37:30Prost was actually two tenths of a second quicker than D'Ambrosio's
37:33on that last lap.
37:34Got to get it here, this is where it counts.
37:36This is on board with Prost,
37:37you can see him checking his mirrors on the run down
37:39towards the right-hander at Turn 3.
37:40Look at that Renault disappearing in a straight line though.
37:42Don't know which power settings they're on, but...
37:46But it's going to be that...
37:49They've fundamentally got two gears in that cup,
37:52whereas Antonio Felix Da Costa has got four gears,
37:56and every time you're shifting gear you're losing a tiny bit of forward drive.
38:00And Antonio Felix Da Costa nevertheless having an absolutely stunning drive,
38:05you've got to say.
38:06To beat him and the Aguri team,
38:07to be running in third place at the moment,
38:09looking sort of dead certain to be taking second.
38:11Big move.
38:12There's the look up the inside into seven.
38:13Da Costa goes through.
38:14Does he get it stopped?
38:15I thought the rear's locked there,
38:16and he slid his way through,
38:17but Da Costa into second place.
38:19Cracking move there.
38:20D'Ambrosio looks like he's catching these guys as well.
38:22He's catching Duval by quite a bit that last lap.
38:25So we're going to have another car joining this party for P2 here in a second.
38:29Yeah, absolutely.
38:30So, Jerome D'Ambrosio...
38:32Well, the gap was five seconds, and it's now 2.9.
38:34There's Mark Preston, who's watching on,
38:36the team principal of Aguri.
38:37It's his birthday today.
38:39What a present this would be,
38:40as Nico Pross turns through the final corner.
38:42Chased now by Loic Duval,
38:44and Duval will want to get past ASAP,
38:47so he can try and close in
38:48and have a fight with Da Costa for second place.
38:51You know, the usable energy left is very similar
38:54between everybody in that front group apart from...
38:56Oh, Da Costa's going straight on, but...
38:57Apart from Nico Pross.
38:58...he'll get away with that.
38:59Yeah, but he's going to slow it down a bit.
39:01Oh, he's got a problem!
39:02Antonio Felix Da Costa grinds to a halt on the exit of turn two,
39:06and from a great position,
39:08Mark Preston can't believe it,
39:09and it looks as though the Aguri car has run into trouble.
39:12Will it get going again?
39:14Will that bring out a...
39:15potentially a full course yellow or a safety car?
39:17But Antonio Felix Da Costa grinds to a halt.
39:20The whole thing switched off.
39:21Oh, he's gone again.
39:23He's gone again.
39:24He's got going again.
39:25Is that a temperature issue?
39:26Maybe.
39:27Okay, Antonio.
39:28Stay on target, then.
39:29Stay on target.
39:30Oh.
39:31Frustration there.
39:32Absolutely.
39:33So that was Antonio Felix Da Costa's team radio.
39:36The whole thing just shut down!
39:37Goodness me!
39:38There goes Duval.
39:39Up the inside of Nico Prost and into second place.
39:41Do you think he wants the win?
39:43Now he's gone after Degrassi, isn't he?
39:45There's Jay Penske.
39:46Happy Jay Penske.
39:47So, how long now until Jerome D'Ambrosio catches up with the back of Nico Prost?
39:52That's going to be a question.
39:53Robin Franks set his fastest lap of the race that last time through.
39:57Robin Franks is right there behind D'Ambrosio.
39:59And Da Costa's stopped again and in a bit of a dodgy position there.
40:03And he's really run into troubles with this second Aguri car.
40:06He's got going again.
40:07It wasn't actually in that bad a position because the view was quite clear.
40:10But here comes Nick Heidefelt to go past Antonio Felix Da Costa.
40:14No, not quite.
40:15But what a hero to zero story for Da Costa.
40:18So Robin Franks, as you say, is up in the fifth position,
40:21right on the back of Jerome D'Ambrosio,
40:23who in turn is going to be on the back of Nico Prost before two long laps.
40:2627 and 33.
40:27So we've only got seven laps to go.
40:29And I wonder if Da Costa will...
40:33If I was hype on it, I would not be following him that closely.
40:36If that thing shuts off again,
40:37you're going to get a nose full of the rear wing of that Aguri car.
40:42Absolutely.
40:43There is the Andretti of Robin Franks running in fifth place at the moment.
40:47Team-mate Simona Silvestro is in 16th.
40:50Here comes that Amlin Andretti car, huh?
40:53Yeah, absolutely.
40:54As I say, he was the second quicker than anyone else on that last lap,
40:57was Robin Franks.
40:58New car drifting away from him.
41:00Look at that.
41:01Yeah, there you go.
41:02Again, this is last year's technology in this car with Andretti.
41:05They had some issues with their power frame in testing
41:08and went back to last year's.
41:10Okay, mate, you're going to have to coast a bit more now
41:14because of the temperatures.
41:15Keep your eye on the temperatures.
41:17Okay, so that's Robin Franks being told you just got to take it steady,
41:22not properly full on back off.
41:24Seven laps to go.
41:25Seven laps to go.
41:26Keep your eye on the temperatures.
41:27Nick Heidfeld.
41:28Nick Heidfeld.
41:29Just made it out.
41:30The last regen on the brakes.
41:31I think he's going to be making a suggestion there.
41:32If they regen less, I think they will sort of temperature a little bit.
41:33Yeah, but then you're not regening as much energy.
41:34But if it's temperature limited, you're all right.
41:35As you can see here, Prince has got 44%.
41:36Frost has got 33.
41:37Duval Degrassi 39, 38.
41:38So, actually, it's not too bad.
41:39Using our 8% lap thingy should be good.
41:40Yeah, but then that is our maths and it's probably not that good.
41:41Here comes D'Ambrosio up the inside of Nick O'Prost to take third position away.
41:45D'Ambrosio goes through and it's now second and third for the Dragon Team as it was in the final
42:02season.
42:03And it's now second and third for the Dragon Team as it was in the final battle.
42:07as it was in the final race of the season in London and the Dragon team getting very excited about that.
42:13Meanwhile up at the front, the gap is 2.3 seconds from Di Grassi to Duval
42:17and they're lapping at pretty similar lap times at the moment.
42:19Duval took three tenths at that last lap, he's going to have to find a bit more, but he's going the right direction.
42:24But D'Ambrosio's got 9%, 8% now, more usable energy than Lucas Di Grassi and he's five seconds down the road.
42:31I think it would be a bit... Oh, here comes Robin Freyns up the inside now on Nico Prost, up into turn seven.
42:37Freyns goes through and that's fourth position now for Robin Freyns.
42:41We have to be careful with the Dragon guys, in China they almost took each other out, gave you and I a heart attack.
42:46Yeah, I'm sure Jay's had a little word since then, Jay Penske, the team boss at Dragon, and just said, look, just take it easy.
42:53So, yes, so D'Ambrosio's got 43%, so I don't think his look from Freyns and we've seen a lot of moves into seven.
43:00It's a great place to do moves, it's quite a cool corner.
43:03It is a great corner, but there's a lot of coasting in there and guys are just taking advantage of it and making some good moves,
43:08because with the camber of the road, with the crowd of the road, the car does not want to break in a straight line.
43:12So you see them diving about.
43:14So D'Ambrosio has got 9% more usable energy.
43:17PK's using his fan boost at the moment, but he's...
43:19He's going for fastest lap, isn't he?
43:20And he's by himself down there, so let's see him using it, but...
43:25It's going to take something to get Bwemi's fastest lap from him, I think.
43:29Exactly.
43:29Here's Daniel Apt doing battle with Stefan Sarazan over 8th position.
43:33Good drive this, you have to say, from Sarazan to recover from...
43:36Well, not stalling, but not able to get going on the start line.
43:39He started about a minute behind everyone else.
43:41OK, there was a safety car, but he's climbed his way back up to 9th position and is right up behind Daniel Apt.
43:46But should finally make my point. Oh, here comes Sarazan up the inside, pass Apt into turn 3, and that was easy peasy.
43:52What might have been?
43:53But D'Ambrosio, 9% more than Degrassi.
43:57Is that enough to close in a 5.5 second gap? I'm not so sure.
44:00Especially if it's...
44:01We should find that.
44:02Yeah, exactly.
44:03Especially if it's temperature limited at the moment.
44:05That is probably, you've made a good point there, Jack.
44:07The temperature limitation might be his bigger thing.
44:10You might not be able to choose at all.
44:11So you've got to not only control your usage of energy,
44:15but your temperature throughout the whole race.
44:17And this guy here, as we've discovered watching his telemetry, Lucas Degrassi,
44:20is probably the best at doing that.
44:23Is Lucas Degrassi finally going to get a proper Formula E picture?
44:28I know I shouldn't say it, but you know what I mean.
44:31He won his first race in Beijing last year after the two leaders crashed at the final corner.
44:36He then won very impressively in Berlin, but was disqualified.
44:41And straight over there goes...
44:42Duval.
44:43Duval.
44:44Duval.
44:45Duval 53, 53.
44:49Okay.
44:50And also, just your point on Nelson Piquet,
44:52you can't any more score points for fastest lap if you use the fan boost on it.
44:58They're making the rules complicated, aren't they?
45:01Yeah, well, I think they're making them fair.
45:03I think that's a good point.
45:05So we're on lap 30 of 33.
45:07On board with Robin Fraince then,
45:08who was slightly quicker on that last lap than Jerome D'Ambrosio.
45:11I think you might have made a good point there, Jack.
45:13That's the second time it's ever happened, but you've made a good point.
45:16That...
45:17The temperature issue might be in D'Ambrosio's car because Robin Fraince is catching up.
45:22Okay.
45:23You can try less brake regen, map three or map two.
45:25And is that the other Dragon car it is?
45:27He's hit the wall.
45:27Look, Lecler suspension damage.
45:29Loving Duval is in big troubles, and that means that Jerome D'Ambrosio is up into second place.
45:34Robin Fraince goes through, and he's up into third.
45:36Sam Bird is up into fourth.
45:38Where did he come from?
45:38Off goes Fraince!
45:39Fraince is in the wall.
45:41He might have just about got away with that, potentially.
45:44No, I think Duval is hit.
45:46Look at Duval's left rear suspension.
45:47So he's done that.
45:48Fraince has done the front wing.
45:50Oh, the car's all over the place from Robin Fraince.
45:52He's going to have to come into the pits, I think, as we go on board with him.
45:55No, no, the front wing is okay.
45:57Look at the steering angle, though.
45:58Watch how much when he gets in the straight line.
45:59Watch how the right hand down the steering is, if anything.
46:02Yeah, the car's properly damaged there.
46:05That is...
46:05Look at it crabbing.
46:06Keep going.
46:08Yeah, so that means Fraince is up into fourth place.
46:10Sam Bird is up into third.
46:12Oh, yeah.
46:13Fraince gets on the brake.
46:14Can you see that?
46:15Left rear.
46:15Sorry, right rear.
46:16Three laps.
46:17Do what you can.
46:18The damage is in the right rear.
46:19Three laps.
46:20Do what you can, is the message.
46:21He got caught with that.
46:22Those marbles we were talking about.
46:24Yeah.
46:25Oh, jeez.
46:25It's getting worse.
46:27It's getting worse.
46:29That's turning oversteer, I think.
46:30That is all kinds of oversteer.
46:33You know, this is a brave thing he's doing, because if that lets go,
46:37he's going to get interested.
46:37This is on board with Nico Pross, and he's gone straight on into the wall.
46:41What is happening?
46:43Goodness me.
46:43Well, it's so hot here.
46:46Nico Pross is now, what, 13th?
46:48Yeah.
46:48It's so hot here that we'll still try and find out what happened to Loic Duval.
46:52Here comes Fraince.
46:52So is he?
46:53He's gone offline.
46:54He's offline.
46:55That's the problem.
46:55You hear that noise?
46:57Yeah.
46:57Look, you can even see it looks like some snow.
47:00So look, as we go through, we go past him, we're going to be too shallow
47:04coming into the left-hander, which spits us out wide.
47:06Yeah, he just couldn't get it slowed down enough.
47:09Look at it.
47:09He didn't have a chance.
47:10The understeer just came straight in.
47:11What a shame.
47:14I'd insult Duval goes back past him and holds him up in the hairpin.
47:17And oh, we've got a car stopped.
47:19Safety car.
47:20Which car is that?
47:21It's six.
47:22Duval.
47:23So that is Loic Duval.
47:25So maybe it was a mechanical problem for Duval, rather than...
47:28No, no, look at the suspension in the back.
47:30Oh, yeah.
47:30It could be the car sitting down.
47:32You can jump out of the gap.
47:33You can jump out of the gap.
47:34And Buemi stopped as well.
47:38Sebastian Buemi, he's got going again.
47:39And he...
47:42Well, this is...
47:43It's so...
47:45Beijing, no mechanical problems at all.
47:47Here, it must be the temperatures that they're really struggling with.
47:51So...
47:51And Lucas Degrassi is...
47:52He's leading the way as he, uh, he's in the first sector now.
47:56Sarazan's P5, yeah.
47:58And this is the battle between the two Mahindras.
48:00Through goes Bruno Senna.
48:01Past his teammate Heidfeldt for seventh position.
48:04Heidfeldt, meanwhile, is...
48:05Drops to eighth, despite having served a drive-through penalty.
48:08Antonio Felix da Costa's on a mission in the Aguri car
48:10to try and get past Heidfeldt now.
48:13But here's Lucas Degrassi, who leads the way...
48:17Through the left-hander.
48:19And still in second place.
48:204.2 seconds back now is Jerome D'Ambrosio.
48:23Third is Sam Bird.
48:24Still fourth is Robin Franks.
48:25And he's 12 seconds clear of Sarazan.
48:27And they're about to start the final lap.
48:29They clearly don't want to go full-course yellow or safety car because it's the last lap.
48:34But it's a very dangerous position there for that car.
48:37Absolutely.
48:38So here comes Lucas Degrassi through the final corner at turn 12.
48:41And he is going to start the final lap of this bonkers Putrajaya E-Pri.
48:47The second round of the Formula E Championship season.
48:50And this would give Lucas Degrassi the lead of the championship.
48:54He locked up the rear.
48:56He's going in there.
48:575.0.
48:585.0.
48:59We did see it was going to get...
49:00Is that the last lap?
49:03He's just asked us that last lap.
49:06Last lap.
49:07Last lap.
49:08We did see it was going to get more interesting when they got in their second cars.
49:11Yeah.
49:11Didn't quite expect this.
49:13Absolute sound.
49:14In Amberg P3.
49:15Yeah.
49:15Exactly.
49:16And like I say,
49:17Frans is still holding on to P4 at the moment, which would still be a pretty decent drive
49:22considering he's smashed the car up on the wall as Degrassi creeps around the left-hander.
49:26There's Hans-Jürgen Apt looking nervy because there's only about one and a half kilometers
49:32before Lucas Degrassi could take victory.
49:35And Robin Frans has got eight seconds on Sarazan.
49:39He left four seconds on that last lap to Sarazan, so he should be all right.
49:43Even I can do that addition.
49:45He's a nervous looking man.
49:47Yeah, absolutely.
49:48Here comes Lucas Degrassi through the left-hander.
49:51Jürgen, look how slowly he went through there.
49:53Taking nothing a chance.
49:54We've still got the dragon car and we've got the other dragon car off.
49:57Jerome D'Ambrosio from third place is off the track and in the wall.
50:00And that promotes Robin Frans up into third position.
50:03He's broke the suspension too.
50:04But here comes Lucas Degrassi through the final corner.
50:07What a topsy-turvy E-Prix here in Putrajaya.
50:10Renault lost out with both cars and Lucas Degrassi was on hand to take the win
50:15and take the lead of the championship.
50:19That's one of the maddest races I've ever watched.
50:24Fantastic stuff.
50:25Who's going to be second?
50:26It should be Sam Bird across the line.
50:28It is.
50:28He finishes in second position and he's elated with that.
50:31And now wait for Robin Frans.
50:33Look at him coming through the final corner.
50:35He's going to be all over the shop because his suspension is absolutely ruined.
50:40But here he comes for Andretti to finish in third position.
50:44And it's a third place and a podium for Robin Frans.
50:47Stefan Sarrazan is going to finish in fourth place.
50:49I mean, that is the nuttiest race I may have ever seen.
50:55Just everything, utter madness.
50:57Sarrazan P4, Senna P5.
51:01I mean, DeCosta's car stopped on track twice and he was P6.
51:07I mean, not quite perfect.
51:08You managed it so well, Logan.
51:11It was really brilliant.
51:14He did a good job there.
51:15And credit to Lucas.
51:17This is not a fluke result.
51:19Okay, Renault's went out, but that has the pace.
51:22This is what we talked about.
51:31He's so good at managing the power and the temperature in a consistent manner.
51:35Other guys get spikes.
51:40That's what these guys were dealing with.
51:41This is why we saw so many incidents, so many broken suspension with both Dragon cars at the end there.
51:46I wonder what happened with D'Ambrosio because he broke the suspension going left here.
51:51But do you think he's hit the wall?
51:53I reckon he's gone into those marbles and hit the wall.
51:56He had a massive gap.
51:58Yeah, I know.
51:59That's what I don't...
52:00There's no need...
52:01Oh, here we go.
52:02Here comes D'Ambrosio.
52:03Look, he's broken already.
52:04Turned seven.
52:06He's gone through seven, hasn't he?
52:08The different thing is for this year, the teams build their own.
52:12Look at the damage to the body work.
52:14And he's, oh, head in his hands.
52:15Head in his hands.
52:17And, oh, we're just going to see it here.
52:18Oh, he's gone into the wall on the Exeter 7.
52:20Yep.
52:20Wow.
52:20I thought EA must have gone in there properly quickly.
52:23And gone down there.
52:24Devastation for Jerome D'Ambrosio.
52:26And the Dragon team.
52:27Yeah.
52:28Fastest lap to Buemi.
52:29They were running second and third at one point.
52:32Wow.
52:34I mean, I mean, well, that's my summary of the race.
52:39Hang on.
52:40Jack Nichols, speechless.
52:41Yeah, exactly.
52:42It has happened.
52:43Yeah.
52:44Yeah.
52:47Anyway.
52:47Yeah.
52:48There we go.
52:50What?
52:52Go on, then.
52:52You said something.
52:53I don't even know what to say.
52:54I mean.
52:55Unbelievable.
52:55It was utter madness.
52:58You know, some good passing in the middle of the racer,
53:00but it just went mad at the end.
53:01And it was survival.
53:02Yeah, absolutely.
53:03Absolutely survival.
53:04And the track surface had something to do with that.
53:07But we've seen this again and again with Rob and friends.
53:09We've seen the Formula E cars take a good old hit.
53:11The suspension be all buckled and they've still kept going.
53:13And he did it again right there.
53:15Lucas Degrassi climbs out of his car.
53:20Good performance.
53:21If you can get the steering wheel back on.
53:22Yeah.
53:23Really good performance.
53:25And I think Sam Bird may not have made it back.
53:31There's there.
53:32We see Robin Freight's there.
53:33Congratulating Lucas Degrassi.
53:36Come on, Lucas.
53:36You can do it.
53:37Here we go.
53:38It's in.
53:39And Degrassi is the winner in Putri Gaya.
53:48You think he's happy?
53:49Yeah.
53:49From six on the grid, Lucas Degrassi has taken the victory for the Abshasar.
53:55Sam, you're right.
53:56Sam didn't make it.
53:57Don't tell me he hit the marbles too.
53:59But he finished the race.
54:01Yeah, he did.
54:02I wouldn't want to be jogging back on this heat with the helmet on.
54:06Take that helmet off, Sammy boy.
54:08Yeah.
54:09And there is a man who is walking back slower.
54:12I've been that soldier.
54:13Yeah.
54:14It's not a good feeling.
54:16It's just, yeah.
54:17You're just thinking of what I could have done differently.
54:20Why did I do that?
54:21Why didn't I just back off?
54:22I had a good lead.
54:24Whoa.
54:24Yeah.
54:25You'll learn from it.
54:26I mean, he's a very, very experienced driver, but he will learn from that.
54:29He's taking his suit off.
54:31Hopefully not all the way, but just the top there.
54:36But a very frustrated Loic Duval there as Degrassi will make his way now to the podium
54:43after a great drive as the clouds begin to roll in here in Putrajaya.
54:49We were sure we were going to get rain this time here.
54:51Yeah.
54:51We saw it last year too.
54:52But nothing.
54:53A bit of dampness this morning, first practice or in practice and that was it.
54:57Absolutely.
55:00Great track.
55:01It's fantastic, isn't it?
55:02It really is a challenge for the drivers and promotes some great overtaking.
55:05Here's a look at the results then after 33 laps of racing.
55:08Lucas Degrassi taking the victory.
55:1013.8 seconds clear in the end of Sam Bird.
55:13Robin Freintz finishing in third position.
55:15And then in fourth place we had Stefan Sarrazam.
55:18Fifth for Senna.
55:20Pross completing the top ten.
55:21Then Villeneuve finished down in 11th place.
55:24Remy De Silvestre d'Ambrosio.
55:26Berton.
55:27Daniel Berton ran into troubles and he finished down in 15th position.
55:30All right.
55:39You've been ready next time.
55:39We did.
55:41We did.
55:41We did.
55:42Oh, Rich.
55:42Literally.
55:43We did.
55:44We went ordernail's parkour.
55:44Yeah.
55:45The double talent.
55:46We turned down and we turned around.
55:47We just you know when it comes.
55:48We did.
55:49And you kind of just stay safe to open the doors.
55:51And you're going to drive.
55:52We did.
55:54You're going to keep like that.
55:55We can't do anything.
55:55In the kitchen.
55:56The other day she selected me.
55:56Especially quick.
55:57Okay.
55:58You got to go.
