00:00:00That is a distance of 187.4 miles. The lap record has stood to Clay Rigazzoni since 1979.
00:00:081.35.6. Watch the lights in the top left corner of your screen and watch the six turbos that you see now.
00:00:18Andretti, Piquet, Tombe, Patrese, Prost and Arnaud. Seconds to go.
00:00:30And Tombe is well up, out on two. The draft goes Prost and into the lead goes Nelson Piquet.
00:00:38Nelson Piquet has done it. He has got into the reticelio first ahead of Tombe.
00:00:44And Mario Andretti is in third position as they stream away out of the reticelio up to the Curva Grande.
00:00:51There goes the world champion. Now he is setting about building up the maximum lead ahead of Tombe.
00:00:59Then it is Rennie Arnaud who has signed for Ferrari and is not even speaking to his Renault colleagues.
00:01:05Lap one.
00:01:07Well, a lot of popping and banging for the turbos on the first two rows.
00:01:10They were all a bit slow away.
00:01:12But Piquet got the best of it, which is absolutely what he wanted.
00:01:15What?
00:01:16Yeah, that's Derek Warwick and Brian Hinton.
00:01:18And they've slowed up the rest of the field, including Derek Daly.
00:01:22Brian Hinton, there is Derek Warwick in the new Tolman, of which so much had been hoped.
00:01:26Here's a replay. Let's see what happened.
00:01:28Well, it looks as though Brian Hinton spun it and Derek Warwick collected him on the way.
00:01:34And that's a bitter, appalling blow for the Tolman team right at the beginning of the Italian Grand Prix.
00:01:40Now, will they clear the track?
00:01:42It's hard to see how that started because Hinton, when we came in on the shot,
00:01:46had already got a wheel hanging off, so they may have made contact before.
00:01:48Right, here we come to the end of lap one, and it's a Renault going through into the lead.
00:02:03And it is René Arnoux, who is now going to be a new darling to the Italian crowd,
00:02:07because he's not in Ferrari.
00:02:09Arnoux leads, Colme second, portraying his third, and portraying his fourth,
00:02:14and down to fifth position.
00:02:16At the beginning of the second lap has gone Nelson Piquet, who was leading.
00:02:19Yes, Piquet's engine sounded rough as he went past.
00:02:23He was very slow on the straight, so that's a bitter blow for Nelson Piquet.
00:02:27It really sounds as if his serious race is run.
00:02:31So he had some trouble with the electrics on his engine in the warm-up this morning
00:02:36that stopped the car out on the circuit.
00:02:38So the Brabham challenge now looks very much as if it's left to Riccardo Patrese,
00:02:42who is, in fact, closing up in third place.
00:02:47Well, now, this is a very interesting political situation,
00:02:50because René Arnoux is driving in his last race but one for Renault.
00:02:54He has severed his connection contractually, or will have at the end of this year.
00:02:59He has signed for Ferrari.
00:03:01He is now a bitter enemy of Alain Prost.
00:03:04He's not talked to by the Renault personnel.
00:03:06He had his lunch with the Ferrari people, believe it or not,
00:03:10and Riccardo Patrese is challenging Patrick Tombe for second place.
00:03:15And this is lap three in this lap two, the end of lap two in this 52-lap race,
00:03:21as they come down to the Parabolica and Derek Daly into the pit.
00:03:26Now, Daly, I saw, was involved in the clash between Warwick and Henton.
00:03:31You see there's a course car out.
00:03:33Arnoux is into the Parabolica.
00:03:34Up into second place has gone Riccardo Patrese.
00:03:37Down to third has gone Patrick Tombe.
00:03:40And now we can start taking the gap between the second, Trevam, and the leading Renault of René Arnoux.
00:03:51And the gap was three seconds.
00:03:53But now Riccardo Patrese, he's now going to try and take up the running, but his teammate P.K. had to relinquish.
00:04:02Well, Alain Prost isn't going very well as they went past our commentary position just then.
00:04:05He was, in fact, running behind Kenny Rosberg.
00:04:08And that is a situation which, if Rolksberg can keep it that way, will tie the championship up in his favor.
00:04:17Unless, of course, Lowder can get a good result.
00:04:20So, Prost is languishing and apparently struggling a bit.
00:04:23Hard to see why.
00:04:24He went well to warm up this morning.
00:04:26The Renaults didn't stun the world in practice.
00:04:29But when it came to running in the warm up, they went well.
00:04:31And Arnoux is certainly proving that there's nothing a lot wrong with them right at the moment.
00:04:36Well, lap three now.
00:04:39There is Arnoux leading.
00:04:41Patrese second.
00:04:42Can he catch the Frenchman in the turbocharged Renault?
00:04:45So, it's a turbo leading.
00:04:46Turbo second.
00:04:47The turbo Ferrari of Tombe is in third position.
00:04:51Then, in fourth place, it is Mario Andretti.
00:04:55In fifth place, and the leading non-turbo, it is the Alfa Romeo of De Cesaris.
00:05:00And off goes the second, Tolman.
00:05:03Oh, dear.
00:05:03What an awful day for Tolman.
00:05:05Because Theo Farby there, out on lap three.
00:05:09So, Warwick out.
00:05:11Farby out.
00:05:12Here come the first two down the straight to complete a lap.
00:05:16And it's ready Arnoux.
00:05:17Now we can take the gap as they go across the line.
00:05:20And the gap with Tombe in his third position.
00:05:24And there you see the rest streaming along.
00:05:25It's 0.83 seconds.
00:05:27And Patrese is definitely closing.
00:05:29And I'm looking forward to Cesaris Smith.
00:05:31Croft is coming through and taking sixth position from Bruno Dreklamet.
00:05:37As we look at Patrick Tombe.
00:05:39There are the leaders.
00:05:41Round the two Lesmo bends.
00:05:43This is a 106th.
00:05:45They're the Grand, the Grand de Cerveille.
00:05:46I'm sorry.
00:05:47And that's about 160 miles an hour.
00:05:49And Patrese is right up with Arnoux.
00:05:53Yes, Patrese is definitely going quite a lot quicker than Arnoux.
00:05:57It'll be, and I think the BMW engine, particularly coupled with the lighter fuel load that he'll be carrying,
00:06:04he should be able to carry him past the Renault if he gets a good run.
00:06:07He's got a possibility here.
00:06:08He's not quite close enough probably, but he's in the slipstream as they come down under the bridge and up to break into the second chicane.
00:06:16Patrese is not quite close enough this time.
00:06:18But if he can go through the chicane well, he's got a good run down to the Parabolica.
00:06:22Well, now they go out of the Via Loni, into the Ascari bend and out of it.
00:06:29Now it's fifth gear, 180 miles an hour down here, down to the Parabolica on lap four.
00:06:36You can see Tombe dropping back.
00:06:38You can see a terrific battle going on for fourth place behind the Frenchman in the Ferrari.
00:06:42But very soon, I would estimate that Riccardo Patrese is going to catch up with and get past René Arnoux,
00:06:50but then he's got to extend his lead to at least 30 seconds by the time they come in at half distance.
00:06:57You can clearly see, if you watch over the last two laps, the disadvantage once Patrese gets close to the Renault,
00:07:03the turbulence destroys the road-harding performance of his car,
00:07:08whereas when he's at a hundred yards or so behind the Renault,
00:07:13he was catching up hand over fifth through all the corners.
00:07:16Now as they're going through the corners, he's a little bit slower than the Renault,
00:07:19and he's got this problem of getting a good run, but he's very close now.
00:07:24But not now, breaking the chicane.
00:07:26He's got the chicane to negotiate.
00:07:28He'd like to get very close through the two Lesmo corners.
00:07:32Here he goes.
00:07:33But once again, the turbulence is probably holding him back,
00:07:36and he's dropped back a little bit.
00:07:37He's got to get really quick through this run.
00:07:40But that's not quick enough and not close enough, I don't think.
00:07:44Lap five, the order.
00:07:46René Arnoux leads, Ricciardo Petrese second.
00:07:49Torre is third in the Ferrari.
00:07:50Andretti is fourth.
00:07:52Fifth is Di Cesare, sixth Giacomelli.
00:07:54Seventh is Prost.
00:07:55Eighth is Rothberg.
00:07:56Ninth is Watson.
00:07:57Tenth is Alboreto.
00:07:59Eleventh is Chiva.
00:08:00And twelfth is Nicky Lauda.
00:08:02And here is the battle behind.
00:08:06That is Patrick Tombe with Prost behind him.
00:08:08There is Di Cesare, who is in fifth position.
00:08:12They are coming out of the Ascari.
00:08:14Meantime, the leaders go into the 150 mile an hour.
00:08:19Parabolica, they come through to complete lap five out of 52.
00:08:24And it looks as though Ricciardo Petrese is not making up.
00:08:27Indeed, the gas now is some one minute, 23 seconds.
00:08:31René Arnoux on his way to, or hopefully another victory as far as he is concerned,
00:08:38is now into lap six.
00:08:42I think I detected a little bit of a slowing by the crazy then.
00:08:46He could have had a misfire as he went past.
00:08:48And that goes Prost past Andretti, which is a very important move for him in his changeable
00:08:54championship.
00:08:55But he's gone wide.
00:08:56He made a mistake there going into the chicane.
00:08:58And now he's got his work cut out to fend off the car behind him.
00:09:03And having done all that work, he's having trouble getting past Andretti.
00:09:05So, this was a bad mistake for Prost.
00:09:10Having done the work, he's going to have to start all over again.
00:09:13But he can't afford to lose time.
00:09:15The leaders are getting further and further away.
00:09:18But what is very important is that in this bunch, indeed, the fifth of them is the world
00:09:23championship leader, Kekki Rosberg.
00:09:24There he is, number six.
00:09:26And he is in eighth position.
00:09:29Now, Patrick Tornbay has pulled away a bit in third position from Alain Prost in the
00:09:34Renault, who is now in fourth position.
00:09:37Now, there is De Cesaris in fifth place.
00:09:40Bruno Giacomelli, sixth.
00:09:41Up to seventh place goes Kekki Rosberg.
00:09:44In eighth position, it is John Watson.
00:09:46In ninth place is Lauda.
00:09:47There is Eddie Cheever, or was, in tenth position.
00:09:50Jarrier is eleventh.
00:09:52De Angelis is in twelfth position.
00:09:55And the positions are changing all the way around the circuit in this bunch, which is chasing.
00:10:00And it looks to me as though it is catching up.
00:10:02Ricciardo Tornbay in second place.
00:10:04Meantime, the leader, Rennie Arnoux, is definitely pulling away.
00:10:11And the gap between himself and Patrick Tornbay now is seven seconds.
00:10:18And look at this, because Alain Prost is taking Sergio Andresi.
00:10:23Well, the race pattern is changing rapidly on lap seven out of 52.
00:10:29Fastest lap so far, Ricciardo Tornbay in 1.34.007.
00:10:34And that is a new lap record, which has broken Kekki Rosberg.
00:10:39Clay Regattoni's 1979 lap record.
00:10:42There is the race leader, Rennie Arnoux.
00:10:45Now, Arnoux, number 16, has already, in his 63rd Grand Prix, won three of them.
00:10:54And he's on his way to the fourth Grand Prix win.
00:10:57And he desperately wants to do this to meet his teammate, Alain Prost, between whom there is no love lost.
00:11:05And you will have gathered that Patrese has slowed down and is coming into the pits.
00:11:09I hope we see this.
00:11:11But here is Rennie Arnoux, new second place man then.
00:11:14You'll see him in a moment.
00:11:16And a long, long way behind.
00:11:17There is, on lap seven, in the background, Patrick Tornbay, second.
00:11:23Andretti in the second Ferrari, third.
00:11:25Then Prost in the second Renault.
00:11:27The first non-turbo is De Cesaris in the Alfa Romeo.
00:11:30And then Ricciardo Patrese, who has dropped back.
00:11:34And into the pits, too, has come Jacques Lapite.
00:11:38That is Rennie Arnoux.
00:11:40Now he is building a very, very commanding lead.
00:11:44Because as he goes into the reticelio, the gap between himself and Patrick Tornbay is 7.62 seconds.
00:11:54Then there's quite a long gap with Prost in third.
00:11:57Andretti in fourth.
00:11:58De Cesaris in fifth.
00:12:00De Cesaris in sixth.
00:12:01Rothberg seventh.
00:12:02And coming up to take Rothberg, as I talk to you and you see Patrick Tornbay, is John Watson.
00:12:09Now, John Watson is still in the running for world championship points.
00:12:14Don't forget, he is equal in fourth position with Nicky Lauda in the world championship.
00:12:21There's a long, long way to go in this race yet.
00:12:23And the turbos could tire.
00:12:26Nelson Tique.
00:12:27Well, as we look at Mario Andretti, who is in fourth position behind Alain Prost, the Renault with the red point on its nose cone.
00:12:45The leader is still Arnoux.
00:12:47You can see he's got seven seconds lead over Patrick Tornbay, who seems to be able to do nothing about it.
00:12:53And unless the Renault has trouble, it looks as though Arnoux is well on his way to another win,
00:12:59as Nelson Piquet definitely gets out of and leaves his car.
00:13:03So, broke the Brabham's away, and they'll be packing the cars up to get away.
00:13:08They have to get back to England for...
00:13:11...to get the cars ready to go to Las Vegas on Friday.
00:13:15But there is Kenny Rothberg.
00:13:17Now, Rothberg is leading the win this race, and if he does, he will ensure the world championship.
00:13:23He's up behind Bruno Giacomelli, and the order now, on lap 10, out of 52, is Renny Arnoux leading.
00:13:31Patrick Tornbay second.
00:13:32Prost is third.
00:13:34In fourth position, it is Mario Andretti.
00:13:36In fifth position, it is De Cesaris.
00:13:39In sixth position now, it is Kekei Rothberg.
00:13:42And in seventh position, it is Bruno Giacomelli.
00:13:45So, Rothberg, the flying fin, as they dubbed him as Dijon, his own countryman,
00:13:50is now definitely in the points.
00:13:53And he's got a very reliable motor car, which Renny Arnoux has not necessarily got,
00:13:59because Renaults have had 19 retirements in Grands Prix this year.
00:14:04And you see the gap now, on lap 10, just under one-fifth distance,
00:14:10between Renny Arnoux, the race leader, Patrick Tornbay there in second place.
00:14:15This Frenchman, who has so brilliantly taken his place in the Ferrari team,
00:14:21to replace Didier Pironi, who is making great progress in hospital, incidentally, in France, we are told.
00:14:28Patrick Tornbay crosses the line.
00:14:30The gap between Arnoux and Tornbay is now 8.08 seconds.
00:14:35The gap between Tornbay and the third-faced man, Cross, is 7.8 seconds.
00:14:42So, and then between Tornbay and Andretti, it is 4.7 seconds.
00:14:47Between Andretti and Dijoniri, it is 4 seconds.
00:14:50So, with Arnoux's car really bouncing over the box as it goes up to the Roger,
00:14:59we look back to see where Patrick Tornbay is, lap 11, and you will see then behind him,
00:15:06no you won't, because there is Tornbay in the Ferrari, number 27,
00:15:10who has taken the number of the late, very great Gilles Villeneuve,
00:15:15and who won in Germany, and there, with the wheel off, that looks like Jarrier, Jean-Pierre,
00:15:21no, it's the Ocella, it's the Ocella of Chico Serra,
00:15:25so, yet another retirement to join Henton, Piquet, Farby, and Patrese,
00:15:32Chico Serra in the Fittipaldi, who qualified in about 23rd position,
00:15:37is out of the Italian Grand Prix on lap 11, with Arnoux leading,
00:15:41Tornbay second, cross third, Andretti fourth, the Cesar is fifth,
00:15:45and up into sixth place to correct that caption, as we look at the replay,
00:15:49has gone, uh, Rosberg.
00:15:51Well, there you see Serra dragging the rear of the Fittipaldi along the ground,
00:15:57getting off the circuit, Arnoux completes another lap, that's his 11th,
00:16:02Tornbay is certainly not gaining, it's turbo Renault leading,
00:16:05and turbo Ferrari in second place, 7.75 seconds, the gap, that is Tornbay.
00:16:13Now, Prost has gone through, still holding his third position behind the man you're looking at,
00:16:18who is Patrick Tornbay, the gap between Prost and Mario Andretti is 5.6 seconds,
00:16:25but now, Rosberg and Prost, I hope we get a look at this, as the Cesar is coming to the pit.
00:16:30Now, this means to say, with the Cesar is into the pit, this means to say that Kiki Rosberg has moved up another place,
00:16:39he's having a terrific scrap behind the leader here, Renny Arnoux, Tornbay, Mario Andretti,
00:16:47with John Watson and Bruno Giacomelli, and I'm expecting soon us to see Kiki Rosberg,
00:16:53the world championship leader in the first non-turbocharged car, the Williams, in fourth position.
00:16:59Now, that's looking ahead, there's the gap between Arnoux and Tornbay,
00:17:03Cistachio, 8.54 seconds.
00:17:06He's coming out of the Ascari, down to the Parabolica, there's Tornbay, now the next one up will be Alain Prost.
00:17:17There in the background, you see the banking of the other Monza circuit, now here is that battle,
00:17:24it's Giacomelli up with Watson, now where is Mario Andretti? There is Kiki Rosberg.
00:17:31Lap 12 has been completed by Renny Arnoux, there is Andretti.
00:17:43Tornbay is still in second position, and this is the battle for fourth, fifth position.
00:17:49Prost is still in third place, so it's Renault's first and third, the Ferrari of Tornbay is second position,
00:17:56and Dretti is still in fourth place, and there's the battle for fifth.
00:18:00Well, John Watson seems to be able to dispose of Tornbay Rosberg, all right,
00:18:04driving yet another good race, and there he is, having a go,
00:18:07and Bruno Dacometti going inside him into the circane, and he looks to have done it.
00:18:12He's just seen a nice straight through this section.
00:18:15Watson really driving a very good race.
00:18:16Again, he didn't qualify brilliantly,
00:18:18but he got the car beautifully set up for the race and had a very, very good run in the race trim
00:18:24with full tanks and the warm-up this morning was the quickest of the normally aspirated cars
00:18:29and has now moved to the head of that battle,
00:18:33although he's got to get a bit of air between himself and Giacomelli
00:18:36because with these couple of long straights coming,
00:18:39Giacomelli can...
00:18:39It's very important that Watson does the two Lesmos very well now,
00:18:43which he's got into very well.
00:18:45Oh, yes, and he's stretched out a big lead over Giacomelli.
00:18:48If he gets the second one right, he's gone.
00:18:50So Giacomelli will not have another look at Watson
00:18:53if Watson makes no mistakes and his car holds up.
00:18:55He's now asserted himself in, and that's good for the championship
00:18:59because of whatever one's feeling of support for whoever one wants to win,
00:19:05it'd be nice if the championship chose right now to the last race,
00:19:09and Rosberg's having to fight very well
00:19:12because obviously he'd like to throw it up here.
00:19:15Well, first of all, as Alain Croft exits the parabolica,
00:19:20an apology to Chico Serra.
00:19:22It was Jean-Pierre Gerier who punctured and retired and not Chico Serra.
00:19:28Now, there is Patrick Taunbay in second position.
00:19:31Alain Croft is still third.
00:19:33Mario Andretti is still fourth.
00:19:35They are on lap 14, but it's the battle for fifth position
00:19:40with John Watson in that place now,
00:19:43and John Watson, don't forget, is fourth equal in the world championship
00:19:47behind Alain Croft, Didier Pironi, who will store no points more this year,
00:19:53and Keke Rosberg, the leader.
00:19:54And in the later stages of this race, I'm expecting to see Rosberg,
00:19:59and we've discovered now what the secret tweet.
00:20:02There's Mario Andretti, number 28, that's Pironi's number,
00:20:07and Andretti in his 127th Grand Prix, of which he has won 12,
00:20:13and at this Grand Prix achieved his 18th pole position.
00:20:18Now, there is Mauro Baldi, followed by, that is Chico Serra.
00:20:23There is the race leader, René Arnoux, in the Renault on lap 14,
00:20:28and as you see, he is some 8.8 seconds ahead of Patrick Taunbay.
00:20:34Coming out of the enormously quick parabolica in fourth gear,
00:20:38and changing up into fifth, 160 miles an hour,
00:20:42building up, and he's doing 190 miles an hour
00:20:44as he goes into the retifilio behind the Chico Serra in the Pitifalda.
00:21:01They've got a fair edge on path over the Ford Cosworth cars.
00:21:05Therefore, it's the same old syndrome as with the turbos.
00:21:08They're very, very difficult to pass,
00:21:10because you come out of a corner where it's held you up,
00:21:13and they put their foot down and just go away from you.
00:21:16And Rosberg has got the same problem.
00:21:18Here, of course, with Giacomelli, that's fair game,
00:21:21because there is, in Dijon, the Cesaris was being lapped,
00:21:25and it really was a pretty disgraceful piece of driving,
00:21:27because he held Lauder up as well for a long time
00:21:29after Rosberg had got by,
00:21:31and seemed quite oblivious.
00:21:33He claimed that he was exhausted after the race,
00:21:37but if he's going to be a danger to himself and other drivers,
00:21:40that's really not good enough as an excuse,
00:21:42because he was not exhausted enough
00:21:44to be able to see where he was going forwards,
00:21:46so he could have looked in his mirrors too.
00:21:49But anyway, that's all over and done with.
00:21:51Rosberg's much more interested in the problem today
00:21:53that he's got in front of him.
00:21:54That's Giacomelli with the power advantage.
00:21:57Meanwhile, he can watch Watson
00:21:58getting further and further away in front.
00:22:02Lap 16 now,
00:22:04and René Arnoux,
00:22:06anxious to prove to the Italian crowd
00:22:08that he has more than justified
00:22:09his Ferrari drive in 1983,
00:22:12is leading in the turbocharged Renault
00:22:14by just under nine seconds,
00:22:16from Patrick Torbay in the Ferrari second.
00:22:19Alain Crosse, third.
00:22:21Mario Andretti, fourth.
00:22:23John Watson, the leading three-league car,
00:22:25in fifth position,
00:22:26and there he is, behind him,
00:22:28Giacomelli's sixth.
00:22:29Enki Rosberg, number six,
00:22:31is in seventh position.
00:22:33Eighth is Alvareto,
00:22:34ninth is Lauda,
00:22:35tenth is Chiever,
00:22:36eleventh De Angelis,
00:22:37twelfth Nigel Mantle,
00:22:39who's come up right from the back of the field.
00:22:41Thirteenth FĂ¼hrer,
00:22:42fourteenth Salazar,
00:22:43fifteenth Baldi,
00:22:45sixteenth Serra,
00:22:46and Salazar, Baldi,
00:22:48and Serra have been left.
00:22:50André De Cesare is virtually out of the race,
00:22:54because he has been into the pit.
00:22:56Jean-Pierre Cherrier has withdrawn,
00:22:59as has Riccardo Patrese,
00:23:01Theo Farby,
00:23:02Nelson Piquet,
00:23:03and Brian Henson.
00:23:07Into the curve of Grandi.
00:23:09Giacomelli, who is sixth.
00:23:11And number ten,
00:23:15who is Salazar,
00:23:17is being given the black flag.
00:23:23He's porpoising very, very badly
00:23:25along the top straight,
00:23:27and we can only assume
00:23:29that the officials think this is dangerous.
00:23:31You are looking now
00:23:32at Michele Alboreto
00:23:34and Nicky Lauda,
00:23:35and Alboreto is in ninth,
00:23:37eighth place.
00:23:38Lauda is in ninth position,
00:23:40ahead of them.
00:23:41Rosberg, seventh.
00:23:42Giacomelli, sixth.
00:23:43Watson, fifth.
00:23:44Andretti, fourth.
00:23:45Half, third.
00:23:46Colme is still second,
00:23:47and ready our new lead.
00:23:48And there's Watson.
00:23:50Giacomelli,
00:23:51Rosberg,
00:23:53Alboreto,
00:23:54Lauda.
00:23:57There's Michele Alboreto
00:23:58in the lightweight
00:24:00peril in its new livery,
00:24:04the basis of which
00:24:05on a very welcome sight
00:24:06is British racing green.
00:24:08It's a long time for a 15th,
00:24:10that is.
00:24:10Bruno Giacomelli,
00:24:12who's had a pretty terrible season
00:24:14for Alfa Romeo
00:24:15and is rumoured
00:24:16to be leaving
00:24:17the Alfa Romeo team
00:24:18at the end of this season
00:24:19and possibly losing his seat
00:24:21to his countryman,
00:24:22Mauro Baldi.
00:24:25Did very well here last year.
00:24:27He got up into third position
00:24:29before the end of the race.
00:24:30And now he is in sixth place.
00:24:33That's the last point scoring position.
00:24:35He is on now.
00:24:36He's 80th left.
00:24:38And there is Petty Rosberg,
00:24:39the world championship leader
00:24:40in the Williams.
00:24:41Curva Grandi.
00:24:44Curva Grandi.
00:24:46Fifth gear out of this,
00:24:47160 miles an hour.
00:24:49Carry on in fifth gear
00:24:50up to 180 miles an hour.
00:24:54Then they go down one gear
00:24:56as they come out of the Roger
00:24:57and we're looking now
00:24:59at the straight
00:24:59which exits the Parabolica
00:25:01and leads into the chicane,
00:25:02the Rettifilio.
00:25:03So there is René Arnoux
00:25:05taking Mark FĂ¼hrer
00:25:07who is in 13th position
00:25:08lapping the Swiss driver
00:25:10in the arrows.
00:25:12René Arnoux coming through
00:25:13in the lead
00:25:14to complete his 18th lap.
00:25:17Nearly nine seconds
00:25:18ahead of Tomlin.
00:25:27Well, René Arnoux
00:25:29may not be very popular
00:25:30with his countrymen
00:25:31but he's certainly
00:25:33endearing himself
00:25:35to a very quiet
00:25:37Italian crowd.
00:25:38The near hysteria
00:25:40has died down.
00:25:42Primarily, of course,
00:25:43because Patrick Colbert
00:25:44is only in second place
00:25:46and Mario Andretti
00:25:48is only,
00:25:49from the point of view
00:25:49of the Italians,
00:25:50in fourth position.
00:25:52They wanted better than that.
00:25:53They wanted first and second.
00:25:55But at least the man
00:25:56that you are looking at now,
00:25:57René Arnoux,
00:25:5934 years old
00:26:00from Manicour
00:26:01and his 63rd Grand Prix
00:26:03is going to be driving
00:26:05for a Ferrari next year.
00:26:07So there's some consolation
00:26:08for them
00:26:08as he goes into the Rocha
00:26:11under the bend,
00:26:12under the bridge.
00:26:15Now,
00:26:16out of the Ceralio
00:26:17to the VLONI,
00:26:19the left-hander.
00:26:20this is a fifth gear
00:26:21down into third,
00:26:22about 11,000 RPM,
00:26:24exits this,
00:26:25believe it or not,
00:26:25at 145 miles an hour.
00:26:28Up into fifth gear.
00:26:31And there is
00:26:32Elio De Angelis
00:26:33who was in 11th place
00:26:36and it looks as though
00:26:37the tyre changes
00:26:38are coming very early indeed.
00:26:40I certainly wasn't expecting
00:26:41them as quick as this.
00:26:43But,
00:26:43as a calculated risk,
00:26:46the John Player Special
00:26:47Lotus team
00:26:48and Bob Dance
00:26:49in the head mechanic
00:26:50in the middle
00:26:51seems to be
00:26:51a bit confused
00:26:53if I want to see
00:26:53the behaviour
00:26:54if they change the tyres.
00:26:55but they decided
00:26:57to start
00:26:58Elio De Angelis
00:26:58on three soft tyres
00:27:00and one hard tyre
00:27:01on the left rear.
00:27:03And obviously
00:27:04the softs have worn
00:27:05quicker than they expected
00:27:06and they're having
00:27:06to change them
00:27:07early in the race
00:27:08because it's lap 20
00:27:10for René Arnoux
00:27:11now leading
00:27:13Patrick Tombe
00:27:14by some eight seconds.
00:27:18Well,
00:27:19Alan Frost
00:27:19has finally made
00:27:20a small impression
00:27:21on the leaders
00:27:23in Brazil
00:27:24of René Arnoux
00:27:25and he's closed up
00:27:28a second or so
00:27:29which is good news
00:27:32for everyone.
00:27:32He's closing,
00:27:33if he is closing
00:27:34consistently,
00:27:35very slow
00:27:36but let's hope
00:27:37that he's closing it up
00:27:38to give us a bit of excitement
00:27:39from half distance
00:27:40onwards.
00:27:42It's very interesting
00:27:43as we look at
00:27:44K.P. Rosberg
00:27:45as leading the World
00:27:46Championship
00:27:46to think very quickly
00:27:48about the point
00:27:49situation at the moment.
00:27:50There is John Watson
00:27:51who is in fifth place.
00:27:53Now,
00:27:54Alain Frost
00:27:54in third position
00:27:55is on his way
00:27:57to six points
00:27:57if he stays
00:27:58where he is.
00:27:59That would close
00:28:00the gap between
00:28:01himself and
00:28:01Keki Rosberg
00:28:02to only five points
00:28:04because Rosberg
00:28:05is not in the World
00:28:06Championship points
00:28:07at the present moment
00:28:08in seventh position
00:28:09and that means
00:28:10that the World
00:28:10Championship
00:28:11would be decided
00:28:12at the last race
00:28:13of the year
00:28:13the Caesars Palace
00:28:15Grand Prix
00:28:15in Las Vegas
00:28:16in a fortnight's time.
00:28:17But there are
00:28:19still a long,
00:28:20long way to go.
00:28:21Four points for Frost,
00:28:22I'm sorry,
00:28:22if he finished in
00:28:23third position.
00:28:26There he is.
00:28:26And he's fastest
00:28:29on the circuit,
00:28:301.33,
00:28:31well,
00:28:321.34 seconds
00:28:33as nearest makes
00:28:34no difference
00:28:35is an improvement
00:28:36of 1.6 seconds
00:28:37on the latterly
00:28:39forward of Keki Rosberg
00:28:40and the gap between
00:28:42Frost and Torpe
00:28:43is coming down now.
00:28:45It is only 2.9 seconds
00:28:47and it was 4.4 seconds.
00:28:51There is the Frenchman.
00:28:53Now the car
00:28:54seems to be settling well.
00:28:57Frost has re-signed
00:28:59for Renault for 1983.
00:29:03A victory
00:29:04or even a second place
00:29:05would keep his
00:29:06World Championship
00:29:07chances alive.
00:29:08There is the man
00:29:09he is chasing.
00:29:11Patrick Torbay
00:29:12second place.
00:29:13And there is one thing
00:29:13to say about
00:29:14Patrick Torbay.
00:29:16He's been having
00:29:17nearly a fortnight
00:29:18treatment for a
00:29:19trapped nerve
00:29:19in his right shoulder
00:29:20since the Swiss
00:29:21Grand Prix at Dijon
00:29:22in which he had
00:29:23to non-start.
00:29:24And a lot of us,
00:29:25frankly including me,
00:29:26are going to be
00:29:26very surprised
00:29:27if Patrick Torbay
00:29:29can go the whole
00:29:30race distance
00:29:30of 52 laps here
00:29:32which could explain
00:29:33why Alain Frost
00:29:34is starting to close
00:29:35on him.
00:29:37Yes, absolutely.
00:29:38I mean, we don't know
00:29:38exactly how his nerves,
00:29:39his problem
00:29:41is going to react
00:29:41to the race.
00:29:42Only a race
00:29:43can find it out.
00:29:45But I also think
00:29:47there's probably
00:29:48a tyre equation
00:29:49coming in this race.
00:29:50Frost is going very well
00:29:51right now at this moment
00:29:52so he doesn't look
00:29:53to be in any trouble.
00:29:54but the companies
00:29:55are fairly evenly matched
00:29:56here.
00:29:57They're battling hard
00:29:58and we've already seen
00:29:59a few raised eyebrows
00:30:01to tyres
00:30:02and things like that
00:30:04so we could see
00:30:07a lot of changes
00:30:08towards the end
00:30:09of the race
00:30:09as the tyres
00:30:10really settle down.
00:30:11What, for example,
00:30:12went past
00:30:13Rosberg and Giacomelli
00:30:15very decisively
00:30:17it started to pull away
00:30:18but it's now struggling
00:30:19to increase this gap
00:30:21and it's got
00:30:21a little bit of a lead
00:30:22but the tyres
00:30:22seems to increase it
00:30:24any more
00:30:24so I think
00:30:25the tyre
00:30:25balance
00:30:27will be moving around
00:30:29during the race
00:30:30quite a lot.
00:30:30understeering problems
00:30:38in the warm-up
00:30:39and they made
00:30:40some changes
00:30:40to the car
00:30:41and it looks as though
00:30:42that's affected tyre wear.
00:30:43Lauda was in ninth position
00:30:44and that destroys
00:30:46his world championship chances
00:30:47so effectively
00:30:49the world championship
00:30:50now must be
00:30:51between
00:30:51Keke Rosberg
00:30:52John Watson
00:30:53and Alain Frost
00:30:54all of whom
00:30:55are of course
00:30:56in the first six places
00:30:59with the exception
00:31:00of Keke Rosberg
00:31:00but look at now
00:31:02Alain Frost
00:31:03closing up
00:31:04on Patrick Torbayo
00:31:06in second
00:31:06and the gap is down
00:31:07to only .6 seconds
00:31:10the battle for second
00:31:12the Ferrari
00:31:13Torbay
00:31:13the Renault
00:31:14Frost
00:31:15second and third
00:31:16out of the retifilio
00:31:19up into fourth gear
00:31:21round the Curva Grande
00:31:24160 miles an hour
00:31:27Nicky Lauda
00:31:27talking on the left
00:31:28to John Barnard
00:31:30the McLaren designer
00:31:32so the world championship
00:31:35is down to three runners
00:31:36now
00:31:37there's one of them
00:31:37Alain Frost
00:31:38number 15
00:31:40turbocharged Ferrari
00:31:44being chased by
00:31:45turbocharged Renault
00:31:46Frenchman at the wheel
00:31:48of both of them
00:31:48Patrick Torbay
00:31:49second and Alain Frost
00:31:51third and Torbayo is now
00:31:5411.3 seconds
00:31:56behind René Arnoux
00:31:58who is all on his own
00:31:59on the 24th lap
00:32:01there's Frost
00:32:01behind Frost
00:32:03and 24th
00:32:05Watson fifth
00:32:06Giacomelli six
00:32:07Rosberg just out of the points
00:32:08and seventh
00:32:09Albaretto eight
00:32:10Cheever ninth
00:32:11Lauda down
00:32:13up to tenth position
00:32:14then goes Nigel Mansell
00:32:16up to eleventh goes Sura
00:32:17to twelfth goes Salazar
00:32:19to thirteenth goes De Angelis
00:32:21to fourteenth goes Serra
00:32:23to fiftieth goes Valdi
00:32:25and then we are down
00:32:27to the people
00:32:28who are at least
00:32:29two laps
00:32:30behind the race leader
00:32:31René Arnoux
00:32:32as Torbayo
00:32:33and Prost
00:32:34exit the Parabolica
00:32:35coming up to complete
00:32:37lap 24
00:32:38and you don't need me
00:32:44to give you a gap
00:32:45there isn't one anymore
00:32:46well there is
00:32:48but you couldn't do it
00:32:50on a stopwatch
00:32:50that's the retifilio
00:32:52the first right and left
00:32:54now out of the right
00:32:56up to the Curva Grande
00:32:57and I think Prost
00:32:59will probably take
00:33:00Torbayo
00:33:01as they come out
00:33:02of the Parabolica
00:33:03at the end of this
00:33:04the twenty-fifth lap
00:33:06which is coming up
00:33:08to half distance
00:33:09half distance of course
00:33:10is lap twenty-six
00:33:11this is fifty-two
00:33:12lap
00:33:13one hundred and eighty-seven
00:33:14point four mile
00:33:16Italian Grand Prix
00:33:17and if one may make
00:33:20the regrettably obvious
00:33:22remarks
00:33:23we are all watching
00:33:25the Renaults
00:33:25to see whether
00:33:26this time
00:33:27they are going to be
00:33:28reliable
00:33:29there is an enormous
00:33:30excitement in the
00:33:32Italian crowd now
00:33:34as they see
00:33:35Arnoux
00:33:36and there is
00:33:37there is Rosberg
00:33:38ahead of
00:33:39Ziacomelli
00:33:40and he's lost
00:33:41well Rosberg
00:33:45looks as though
00:33:46he's in
00:33:46Rosberg has lost
00:33:51his rear wing
00:33:52look
00:33:52now look at this
00:33:53number six
00:33:53this is really
00:33:55going to cause
00:33:55problems that
00:33:56Giacomelli is going
00:33:56through
00:33:57Keki Rosberg then
00:33:58waves him through
00:33:59and there's no rear wing
00:34:01on the wheel
00:34:01and there is no
00:34:02that was
00:34:06yes
00:34:06Giacomelli was signalling
00:34:08to Rosberg that he had
00:34:09lost his rear wing
00:34:10I'm sure by the
00:34:10handing in the car
00:34:11Rosberg was aware of it
00:34:12but
00:34:13it was acknowledged
00:34:15by Rosberg
00:34:16well as they went
00:34:21past the pits
00:34:21we had
00:34:22Prost
00:34:22challenging
00:34:23Patrick
00:34:27in the Ferrari
00:34:28we didn't see
00:34:29if they got through
00:34:29up the corner
00:34:30but it looks as if
00:34:31Prost was going to
00:34:31move up to second
00:34:32place there
00:34:33and he is in fact
00:34:34hosing a little bit
00:34:35on his team mate
00:34:36René Arnoux
00:34:36in the lead
00:34:37here is Giacomelli
00:34:38Rosberg
00:34:38rear wingless
00:34:39they go like
00:34:41mad down the
00:34:42straight with no
00:34:43wings
00:34:43but they are
00:34:44more than a
00:34:45handful around
00:34:45the corners
00:34:45and Rosberg
00:34:46will surely have
00:34:47to come into
00:34:47the pits
00:34:48but you never
00:34:49know
00:34:50maybe it's not
00:34:50working so badly
00:34:51he doesn't seem
00:34:52to be going that
00:34:52slowly
00:34:52I would have
00:34:53expected him
00:34:53to be in more
00:34:54trouble than that
00:34:54yeah it's wandering
00:34:55about at the back
00:34:56and I'm sure
00:34:57he'll take now
00:34:57he's been passed
00:35:00by Giacomelli
00:35:01and by Alboreto
00:35:03and now I expect
00:35:04to see him come
00:35:05into the pits
00:35:06because the
00:35:06Williams mechanics
00:35:07are ready
00:35:08they know what
00:35:08the problem is
00:35:09they've got a
00:35:09television monitor
00:35:10in their pits
00:35:11they will have a
00:35:12wing ready
00:35:12and Kenny Rosberg
00:35:14when he comes out
00:35:15with a new rear
00:35:16wing
00:35:16I expect
00:35:18will start a
00:35:18terrific charge
00:35:20to try to get
00:35:21back into the
00:35:22point
00:35:22Alan Chalice on
00:35:25the left
00:35:26the head mechanic
00:35:27is supervising
00:35:27things
00:35:28yes the problem
00:35:29with a manoeuvre
00:35:30like this
00:35:30is these rear
00:35:31wings are very
00:35:32carefully attached
00:35:33because it's
00:35:33normally a very
00:35:34dangerous thing
00:35:34if I come out
00:35:35they're not fitted
00:35:37in such a way
00:35:38they don't expect
00:35:39to have to make
00:35:39a quick change
00:35:40in the pits
00:35:41and so I think
00:35:42you'll find that
00:35:42Rosberg is really
00:35:44pretty much out of
00:35:45the points today
00:35:46unless some
00:35:46extraordinary things
00:35:47happen
00:35:47they don't look
00:35:48as if they're going
00:35:49to get that car
00:35:49back on the road
00:35:50very quick
00:35:50and that is
00:35:52but Frost
00:35:53here is Frost
00:35:54trying to get past
00:35:55Stan Baines
00:35:55having another go
00:35:56and he can't quite
00:35:57get close enough
00:35:57he's had a go there
00:35:59at the third lap
00:35:59running
00:36:00and he
00:36:01it's again
00:36:02it's the turbulence
00:36:02as he goes into
00:36:04the corners
00:36:04behind the Ferrari
00:36:05he slurs through
00:36:06the corners
00:36:07you see he loses
00:36:07ground there
00:36:08and he's definitely
00:36:09not quick through
00:36:10the Lesmos
00:36:10when he's got the
00:36:11Ferrari in front of
00:36:12him
00:36:12to mess up
00:36:13his aerodynamics
00:36:14and he's easily
00:36:16a little bit
00:36:16bereft of ideas
00:36:17at the moment
00:36:18to get round
00:36:19but let's stay
00:36:20with this battle
00:36:21and see how Frost
00:36:22goes about it
00:36:23because here is
00:36:24undoubtedly one of
00:36:25the world's best
00:36:26competitors and top
00:36:27drivers Alan Frost
00:36:28he's a truly
00:36:30outstanding driver
00:36:31in the business
00:36:32at the moment
00:36:33and we'll see
00:36:33how he sets about
00:36:35leading with this
00:36:36problem
00:36:36struggling at the
00:36:37moment
00:36:38and Frost's hand
00:36:40goes out
00:36:40is he in trouble
00:36:41he's stopping
00:36:42yes the Renault
00:36:43has again failed
00:36:45Alan Frost
00:36:46is out
00:36:47I think
00:36:48but yes he must
00:36:49be of the
00:36:50Italian Grand Prix
00:36:51and now
00:36:52this blows
00:36:53the world championship
00:36:54absolutely wide
00:36:55out
00:36:55Peggy Rosberg
00:36:56will fight back
00:36:57and cross his
00:36:58touring
00:36:59look at him
00:36:59well what a great
00:37:02day
00:37:02but what a terrible
00:37:03anti-climax this is
00:37:04because unless John
00:37:05Watson can score
00:37:06plenty of points
00:37:07today the world
00:37:07championship
00:37:08can be finished
00:37:08while everybody
00:37:09sits in the pits
00:37:10in fact half the
00:37:11drivers will be on
00:37:11their way home
00:37:12in aeroplanes
00:37:13while it's getting
00:37:14settled
00:37:14and that's really
00:37:15a sad way
00:37:16for things to be
00:37:17so there goes
00:37:19Rosberg out of
00:37:20the pits
00:37:20but probably
00:37:21out of the
00:37:22points
00:37:22but it's all
00:37:24over Barber
00:37:24shouting
00:37:25because
00:37:26Frost
00:37:27looks to be
00:37:28out of it
00:37:29well you can
00:37:31imagine what a
00:37:31reception
00:37:32the fact that
00:37:32Alain Frost
00:37:33has gone out
00:37:34of the race
00:37:35and let Patrick
00:37:35Thornbay number
00:37:3627 there secure
00:37:38his second place
00:37:38has received
00:37:39here at Monza
00:37:40from the Italian
00:37:41crowd
00:37:42they have gone
00:37:44absolutely berserk
00:37:45with joy
00:37:46and now
00:37:47Rosberg is
00:37:49more than a full
00:37:50lap behind
00:37:51Patrick Thornbay
00:37:52yes the Italian
00:37:53crowd nothing
00:37:54if not sporting
00:37:54always very keen
00:37:57to take the sporting
00:37:57spirit
00:37:58cheering like mad
00:37:59Alan Frost
00:37:59misfortune
00:38:00but that
00:38:02has always been
00:38:03a great tradition
00:38:03here at Monza
00:38:04and it's greatly
00:38:05appreciated by the
00:38:06drivers and everything
00:38:07they love to be
00:38:08booed and everything
00:38:08when they break down
00:38:09well let's look
00:38:11at the situation
00:38:13now
00:38:13on lap 28
00:38:15out of 52
00:38:17René Arnoux
00:38:18is leading
00:38:19very securely
00:38:20but that's one
00:38:21Renault out of the race
00:38:23is Arnoux
00:38:24going to last
00:38:24Frost
00:38:25has rejoined
00:38:26Frost
00:38:27has rejoined
00:38:28Arnoux lead
00:38:29Torbay is second
00:38:31up in the third
00:38:32position then
00:38:33comes Mario
00:38:34Andretti
00:38:35in fourth position
00:38:37now is car
00:38:39number 28
00:38:40while Mario
00:38:41Andretti
00:38:41I'm sorry
00:38:42in third position
00:38:43then behind him
00:38:44in fourth place
00:38:45is John Watson
00:38:46and there is a
00:38:47stationary
00:38:48Alain Frost
00:38:49who is definitely
00:38:50out of the race
00:38:51he blasted
00:38:52out of the pits
00:38:53and how often
00:38:54have we seen
00:38:55this sight
00:38:55a rueful
00:38:56unhappy
00:38:57not to say
00:38:58angry
00:38:59Alain Frost
00:39:00and he's at the
00:39:00exit of the
00:39:01Regifilio
00:39:01out of the race
00:39:02I was speculating
00:39:04that he spun there
00:39:06and stalled the
00:39:07engine
00:39:07it looks very much
00:39:08I think he might
00:39:09have got out of the
00:39:10pits
00:39:10in such a
00:39:11peak of
00:39:12overexcitement
00:39:13that he may
00:39:14just on coldish
00:39:15tyres
00:39:15have made error
00:39:17there
00:39:17because
00:39:17if he'd broken
00:39:18down
00:39:19he would have
00:39:19pulled off
00:39:19the track
00:39:20so
00:39:21I'm only speculating
00:39:23but
00:39:24that would be
00:39:25a great shame
00:39:26anyway
00:39:26because
00:39:26we're heading
00:39:29for the most
00:39:29terrible
00:39:30anti-climax
00:39:31and it's a sad
00:39:31way
00:39:32to finish the
00:39:33season
00:39:34if we're going
00:39:34to do it
00:39:34that way
00:39:35but
00:39:36it's up
00:39:37and down
00:39:37but in terms
00:39:38of an open
00:39:39battle for the
00:39:39championship
00:39:40it's always
00:39:40looked very good
00:39:41but
00:39:41it would be
00:39:42an awful shame
00:39:43if we finish
00:39:43it all
00:39:44with nobody
00:39:44on the track
00:39:45and everybody
00:39:46else
00:39:46going
00:39:46oh
00:39:47you can't
00:39:47watch the
00:39:49Ferrari
00:39:49prove that
00:39:50what is the
00:39:52world championship
00:39:53situation
00:39:54then
00:39:54as we look
00:39:55at Brennan Arnoux
00:39:56on lap 29
00:39:57leading very
00:39:58comfortably
00:39:59indeed
00:39:59by 15 seconds
00:40:01for Patrick
00:40:01Thornbey
00:40:02the answer
00:40:03is
00:40:03that John
00:40:04Watson
00:40:05is in the
00:40:06points
00:40:07Alain Prost
00:40:08of course
00:40:08is out of the
00:40:09points
00:40:09Lauda
00:40:10is out of the
00:40:11points
00:40:11and Rothberg
00:40:12is out of the
00:40:12points
00:40:13the gap
00:40:13between
00:40:14Teddy Rothberg
00:40:15who was
00:40:16on 42 points
00:40:17and John
00:40:18Watson
00:40:18who was
00:40:19on 30
00:40:20was 12
00:40:21points
00:40:21therefore
00:40:22and if
00:40:23John Watson
00:40:24who is in
00:40:25fourth position
00:40:26can get
00:40:27three points
00:40:29he's going to
00:40:30improve his
00:40:31chances
00:40:31of staying
00:40:32in the
00:40:32world championship
00:40:33down to the
00:40:34last race
00:40:35as
00:40:35Alain Prostar
00:40:37is winched
00:40:38off the circuit
00:40:39well there's no doubt
00:40:39about the fact
00:40:40that he's
00:40:40retired now
00:40:41as
00:40:42Brennan
00:40:43on lap
00:40:4530
00:40:45with
00:40:4622 to go
00:40:47and
00:40:48this one
00:40:49comes up
00:40:50behind
00:40:52Chico Serra
00:40:53in the
00:40:53Fittipaldi
00:40:54to lap
00:40:54it
00:40:55as for our
00:41:02big British
00:41:03hope
00:41:03John Watson
00:41:04is not only
00:41:05that he keeps
00:41:06going and
00:41:07maintains the
00:41:08places he's in
00:41:08on the road
00:41:09that he maybe
00:41:09gets a couple
00:41:10of breakdowns
00:41:10or something
00:41:11in front of him
00:41:11to get him
00:41:12a real good
00:41:12bag full of points
00:41:13there is no doubt
00:41:17a very happy
00:41:18René Arnoux
00:41:19who will
00:41:19have seen
00:41:20Alain Prost's
00:41:22deadly and hated
00:41:23rivals
00:41:23Renault
00:41:24being taken
00:41:25off the circuit
00:41:26who will know
00:41:27from his Renault
00:41:28pit signals
00:41:29that he has
00:41:30a very commanding
00:41:31lead
00:41:32of some
00:41:3319 seconds
00:41:34now
00:41:35over Patrick
00:41:35Tomé
00:41:36who will be
00:41:37praying for
00:41:38reliability
00:41:38the Ferraris
00:41:40are second
00:41:40and third
00:41:41if anything
00:41:41happens to
00:41:42Arnoux
00:41:42we can expect
00:41:45the greatest
00:41:46demonstration
00:41:46of all time
00:41:47in motor racing
00:41:48history
00:41:49with Ferrari
00:41:49first and second
00:41:50John Watson
00:41:51is in fourth
00:41:53position
00:41:53and therefore
00:41:54on three points
00:41:56in the championship
00:41:57John Watson
00:41:59is in fact
00:42:00with his striking
00:42:01distance
00:42:02for Mario
00:42:02Andretti
00:42:03in third place
00:42:04he's some
00:42:0412 or 13 seconds
00:42:06behind him
00:42:07and
00:42:08whilst
00:42:10there's no doubt
00:42:11that Mario
00:42:11is
00:42:11very safe
00:42:13he's been doing
00:42:15a full season
00:42:15of racing
00:42:16in the United States
00:42:17he also did
00:42:17a lot of
00:42:18very thorough
00:42:19preparation
00:42:19for this race
00:42:21itself
00:42:22by doing
00:42:22a huge mileage
00:42:23of the Ferrari
00:42:24and the Ferrari's
00:42:26private test track
00:42:27in Fiorano
00:42:28but even so
00:42:31these cars
00:42:32are so much harder
00:42:33physically to drive
00:42:35than they were
00:42:36even a shorter time ago
00:42:38as when Mario
00:42:38bowed out of Formula 1
00:42:41but it may be hard work
00:42:43for him to hold on
00:42:44and Watson
00:42:45we've always found
00:42:47has been a very good
00:42:48stayer
00:42:49and will continue
00:42:50to produce and deliver
00:42:51up to maximum performance
00:42:53for the whole of the race
00:42:54so he's 12 seconds
00:42:56behind Mario
00:42:58at the moment
00:42:59with a chance
00:43:00to close
00:43:01that is Patrick
00:43:07Tombe
00:43:07and the gap
00:43:09between Andretti
00:43:10and Watson
00:43:11is remaining
00:43:12at 12 seconds
00:43:13I have just taken it
00:43:14and on lap 32
00:43:16Arno Bredo
00:43:18leaves
00:43:19Tombe
00:43:20Ferrari second
00:43:21Andretti
00:43:21Ferrari
00:43:22a magnificent third
00:43:23in his comeback race
00:43:25fourth is John Watson
00:43:26in the point
00:43:27fifth is Giacomelli
00:43:28sixth is Albaretto
00:43:29seventh is Chiva
00:43:30Nigel Mansell
00:43:32has come up
00:43:32from 23rd
00:43:33on the grid
00:43:34to eight
00:43:35one lap
00:43:36behind the leaders
00:43:37De Angelis
00:43:38his teammate
00:43:38is ninth
00:43:39Salazar is tenth
00:43:40Ferrar is eleventh
00:43:42and Maldi
00:43:42is twelfth
00:43:43for Kenny Rosberg
00:43:44who rejoined the race
00:43:45in 18th place
00:43:47with that new wing
00:43:48has now fought his way
00:43:50up to 13th position
00:43:51but as James has said
00:43:53he is behind the leaders
00:43:55and in world championship terms
00:43:58it is John Watson
00:43:59who is making the running
00:44:01if he can only get up
00:44:03one place
00:44:04if he can close the gap
00:44:05between himself
00:44:05and Mario
00:44:06it's going to be
00:44:08a very very close thing
00:44:10at Caesars Palace
00:44:11so
00:44:12lap 33
00:44:14the fastest lap
00:44:16of some
00:44:161.33 seconds
00:44:18by at the time
00:44:20Alain Prost
00:44:21is about two seconds
00:44:22faster than
00:44:23Reggertoni's
00:44:231979 lap record
00:44:26and probably the
00:44:27oldest lap record
00:44:28in the books
00:44:29for current
00:44:30Formula One
00:44:30world championship races
00:44:32the Italian Grand Prix
00:44:34here last year
00:44:35was very wet
00:44:36for instance
00:44:36and kept
00:44:36lap speeds down
00:44:38and coming towards us
00:44:39you see
00:44:40Michele Alboretti
00:44:41who is now
00:44:42in sixth position
00:44:43there's Bruno
00:44:45Giacomelli
00:44:45in the Alfa Romeo
00:44:49and on
00:44:50lap 33 now
00:44:53Arnu leads
00:44:54Tolmei Trekkert
00:44:55Andretti third
00:44:57John Watson
00:44:58is in fourth position
00:45:00Bruno Giacomelli
00:45:00is in fifth place
00:45:02and there
00:45:03into the pit
00:45:04as I say that
00:45:05comes Bruno Giacomelli
00:45:07and that's going to help
00:45:08Peggy Rossberg
00:45:09of course
00:45:10but particularly
00:45:11it's going to help
00:45:12Michele Alboretti
00:45:13is going to help
00:45:14Diva
00:45:14and it's going to bring
00:45:15Nigel Mantle
00:45:16one place nearer
00:45:18world championship
00:45:19point score
00:45:20there's
00:45:21Emano Kourgi
00:45:23and by the way
00:45:24Elio De Angelis
00:45:25is in ninth place
00:45:26in the job player
00:45:27special Lotus
00:45:28one lap
00:45:29behind the leader
00:45:30well they changed
00:45:31the towers
00:45:32on Giacomelli's car
00:45:33but I think
00:45:33he had more trouble
00:45:34than just that
00:45:34because
00:45:35he slowed
00:45:36right down
00:45:36for the second half
00:45:38of that last half
00:45:39he's got proceeded
00:45:40he's got out of the pit
00:45:41sounding pretty healthy
00:45:42back on the track
00:45:43but if it was just
00:45:44power trouble
00:45:44I can't see why
00:45:45he's slow right down
00:45:46and let everybody pass
00:45:47so maybe he's got
00:45:49some other mother as well
00:45:50There's Andretti
00:45:52what an incredible man
00:45:54Mario Andretti is
00:45:55he decided after
00:45:56a very very unhappy season
00:45:59with Alfa Romeo
00:46:00in Formula 1 last year
00:46:01that he would return to
00:46:03and stay in America
00:46:04that is Mark Schurrer
00:46:06in the A4
00:46:08the older of the
00:46:08two arrows cars
00:46:10coming into the pits
00:46:11he's in 15th place
00:46:13four laps behind
00:46:15René Arnoux
00:46:16his team mate
00:46:17Mauro Baldi
00:46:18is in 13th place
00:46:20there is Bruno
00:46:21Giacomelli
00:46:21being passed by
00:46:23the hard charging
00:46:24Kekki Rosberg
00:46:25it's the second stop
00:46:26by the way
00:46:27for Mark Schurrer
00:46:28and on lap 34
00:46:30in this very very
00:46:32interesting Italian
00:46:33Grand Prix
00:46:34René Arnoux
00:46:35is 18 seconds ahead
00:46:37of Colbert
00:46:38who is 37 seconds ahead
00:46:40of Andretti
00:46:41who is
00:46:42subway ahead
00:46:44of John Watson
00:46:45in 4th position
00:46:46with Alvaretto
00:46:47in 5th place
00:46:48Giacomelli
00:46:49in 6th
00:46:49that brings
00:46:51Eddie Cheever now
00:46:52who by the way
00:46:53has signed for
00:46:54Renault next year
00:46:56Eddie Cheever
00:46:56the American
00:46:57driving the
00:46:58Talbot
00:46:59Batra car
00:47:00here
00:47:01for the last race
00:47:02number one
00:47:02is driving
00:47:03or will be driving
00:47:04for Renault
00:47:06next season
00:47:06Derek Warwick
00:47:07lost that seat
00:47:09by a hair's breadth
00:47:10and we're waiting
00:47:12to see what's
00:47:13happening to him
00:47:13next season
00:47:14there is Rosberg
00:47:15coming across the line
00:47:17to
00:47:18complete another lap
00:47:21and that means
00:47:21that Kekki Rosberg
00:47:22will be now
00:47:24on his
00:47:2534th lap
00:47:26I estimate
00:47:27Nigel Mantle
00:47:29is going extremely well
00:47:31he's left behind
00:47:32but he's getting
00:47:32closer and closer
00:47:33to the points
00:47:34and the order
00:47:35with Giacomelli
00:47:36there
00:47:37into the finish
00:47:38and don't forget
00:47:40that
00:47:41Adrian De Cesare
00:47:42was effectively
00:47:43out of the race
00:47:44and Adrian De Cesare
00:47:45that's Alain Prost
00:47:46Alain Prost
00:47:51explaining
00:47:51to
00:47:52his Renault
00:47:54team colleagues
00:47:54what has happened
00:47:55to him
00:47:55and not at all
00:47:56happy about it
00:47:57I'll be bound
00:47:57as René Arnoux
00:47:59comes up
00:47:59to lap
00:48:00Elio De Angelis
00:48:01on the right
00:48:02De Angelis
00:48:03who is in ninth place
00:48:04has been lapped
00:48:04by Arnoux
00:48:06who really does
00:48:07seem to be
00:48:08invincible
00:48:09in the moment
00:48:10we've said this
00:48:11time and time again
00:48:12but if the turbo
00:48:13lasts for half
00:48:15the race distance
00:48:16it normally
00:48:17lasts the whole race
00:48:19not invariably
00:48:21but normally
00:48:21two Brabham BMWs
00:48:24out of the race
00:48:25one of the Renault
00:48:26out of the race
00:48:27that's Alain Prost
00:48:28both the Ferraris
00:48:29still running
00:48:29second and third
00:48:30and they are famous
00:48:31for their reliability
00:48:33especially since
00:48:35they introduced
00:48:35this new
00:48:36water injection
00:48:37engine
00:48:38which helps to keep
00:48:39the internal
00:48:39temperatures down
00:48:40and they're in a
00:48:42strong position
00:48:43if
00:48:44René Arnoux
00:48:45has trouble
00:48:46which does not
00:48:47at the moment
00:48:47look at all
00:48:48likely
00:48:48there he is
00:48:49on his 36th lap
00:48:51on his way
00:48:53to his
00:48:53fourth
00:48:54Grand Prix win
00:48:55in his last
00:48:56but one race
00:48:57for Renault
00:48:58with 14
00:48:59pole positions
00:49:00behind him
00:49:01three wins
00:49:02five seconds
00:49:03two thirds
00:49:04eight fastest laps
00:49:05a man who started
00:49:07his career
00:49:07like so many
00:49:08Grand Prix drivers
00:49:09in carts
00:49:10then went on
00:49:12the Formula Renault
00:49:13and Formula 5
00:49:14was given
00:49:15his Formula 1
00:49:16break by
00:49:16John Thurteese
00:49:17and has
00:49:19been driving
00:49:21now for four
00:49:22years
00:49:22for Renault
00:49:23and I can't
00:49:32see any way
00:49:33as we watch
00:49:34fourth place
00:49:35man
00:49:35John Watson
00:49:36that
00:49:37Rosberg
00:49:38can get
00:49:38back
00:49:39into the
00:49:40points
00:49:40so
00:49:43as James
00:49:45has said
00:49:45if John Watson
00:49:47stays where
00:49:47he is
00:49:48he and
00:49:50Keke Rosberg
00:49:51will go to
00:49:52America
00:49:53to Las Vegas
00:49:54with only
00:49:55nine points
00:49:56between them
00:49:56and the world
00:49:58championship
00:49:59will be decided
00:50:00or would be
00:50:01decided in America
00:50:02but
00:50:03we still have
00:50:0414 laps to go
00:50:08at the end
00:50:09of this one
00:50:10there is
00:50:11Tombe
00:50:11second place
00:50:13completing
00:50:14and Andretti
00:50:18there
00:50:19into the
00:50:20reticulio
00:50:2042 years old
00:50:23this American
00:50:24and
00:50:26although
00:50:27American racing
00:50:28is very demanding
00:50:30it is very
00:50:31very different
00:50:32in that it is
00:50:33mostly around
00:50:34ovals
00:50:35where you keep
00:50:35going round and
00:50:36round one enormous
00:50:37corner in effect
00:50:38and Mario Andretti
00:50:40is unused
00:50:41to this
00:50:41Formula One
00:50:42twisting and
00:50:43turning racing
00:50:44he's only had
00:50:45one previous
00:50:46Formula One
00:50:46driving this year
00:50:49and that was
00:50:49at Long Beach
00:50:50in a Williams
00:50:50where he qualified
00:50:5214th
00:50:53but retired
00:50:54from the race
00:50:54and he's now
00:50:55closing up
00:50:56on
00:50:57De Cesaris
00:51:01in the Alfa Romeo
00:51:02he's well down
00:51:03De Cesaris
00:51:05is at least
00:51:06two laps
00:51:07behind Mario
00:51:08and there is
00:51:09the official
00:51:10qualification
00:51:11showing
00:51:12Arnoux
00:51:12Torbay

00:51:13with John
00:51:14Watson
00:51:15and everybody
00:51:16up to
00:51:17fourth place
00:51:18John Watson
00:51:18has been
00:51:19lapped by
00:51:19René Arnoux
00:51:20including

00:51:22fifth
00:51:22and
00:51:23Jeeva
00:51:23in sixth
00:51:24position
00:51:24there's
00:51:25Mansell

00:51:35now
00:51:35two laps
00:51:35behind
00:51:36the leaders
00:51:37going to be
00:51:38challenged
00:51:39and no doubt
00:51:41passed
00:51:41by the
00:51:42turbo power
00:51:43of the Ferrari
00:51:44with Mario

00:52:07the circuit
00:52:07it's very

00:54:39I said

00:54:41while ago
00:54:42that

00:54:46still
00:54:47a chance
00:54:47possibly
00:54:47of closing
00:54:48on him
00:54:48in the
00:54:49latter
00:54:49part
00:54:49of
00:54:49the
00:54:50race
00:54:50well
00:54:50Andretti
00:54:51and Watson
00:54:51between them
00:54:52have answered
00:54:52that very
00:54:53firmly
00:54:53because
00:54:53ever since
00:54:54I said
00:54:54that
00:54:55John Watson
00:54:57has actually
00:54:57been losing
00:54:58ground to
00:54:58Andretti
00:54:59who's now
00:55:00got himself
00:55:01as a value
00:55:02secure
00:55:02placed 21
00:55:03seconds
00:55:04ahead of
00:55:04Watson
00:55:05but
00:55:05Watson
00:55:05is
00:55:0621
00:55:07seconds
00:55:08ahead of
00:55:09Michele
00:55:09Alvareta
00:55:09who's
00:55:10his
00:55:10nearest
00:55:11challenger
00:55:11from behind
00:55:12So Watson's
00:55:12in a pretty
00:55:13lonely
00:55:13and steady
00:55:14fourth place
00:55:15and all he
00:55:16can hope for
00:55:17really
00:55:17now is a
00:55:18steady run
00:55:19to the finish
00:55:19with no
00:55:19trouble for
00:55:20himself
00:55:20but a bit
00:55:20of trouble
00:55:21up front
00:55:22to the
00:55:22others
00:55:23if he can
00:55:24get lucky
00:55:25It's not a
00:55:25nice way to
00:55:26score point
00:55:26but it's all
00:55:28part of
00:55:29motor racing
00:55:29and that
00:55:30would certainly
00:55:30be his
00:55:31hope
00:55:32but the
00:55:32two
00:55:33Ferraris
00:55:33Ferraris
00:55:34are
00:55:34famous
00:55:35in our
00:55:36ability
00:55:36of all
00:55:37turbo teams
00:55:38the one
00:55:39team
00:55:39who've
00:55:39got it
00:55:40together
00:55:40and been
00:55:40running
00:55:41their
00:55:41engines
00:55:41in their
00:55:41car
00:55:42many
00:55:42renowned
00:55:42in
00:55:43this
00:55:43year
00:55:44and in fact
00:55:45Andretti
00:55:46was testing
00:55:47Fiorano last
00:55:48week
00:55:49and he was
00:55:49trying to do
00:55:50a lot of that
00:55:51and then he
00:55:51started to do
00:55:52more laps
00:55:52and he
00:55:53wanted to
00:55:54he was getting
00:55:54so tired
00:55:55and he said
00:55:55the trouble
00:55:56was that the
00:55:56engine wouldn't
00:55:57blow up
00:55:57so he couldn't
00:55:58get the engine
00:55:58to finish
00:55:59it just went
00:55:59on and on
00:56:00and on
00:56:00forever
00:56:00so he had
00:56:02a very
00:56:02exhausting
00:56:03time
00:56:03there
00:56:05but it
00:56:06seems to be
00:56:06paying off
00:56:07because he's
00:56:07showing no
00:56:08signs of
00:56:08tiredness
00:56:09in the race
00:56:09now
00:56:09and in fact
00:56:10it's going
00:56:10as well
00:56:11now as he's
00:56:11gone at any
00:56:12stage in the
00:56:12race
00:56:12and really
00:56:13an excellent
00:56:14drive for
00:56:14somebody to
00:56:15come right
00:56:15back in
00:56:16after a long
00:56:17layoff
00:56:18one race at
00:56:19Long Beach
00:56:19apart from
00:56:20that nearly a
00:56:20year since he
00:56:21drove Formula
00:56:21One
00:56:22and a
00:56:24particularly
00:56:24excellent
00:56:25effort by
00:56:25Andretti
00:56:26he is now
00:56:36on his
00:56:3643rd lap
00:56:38with 9 to
00:56:38go at the
00:56:39end of this
00:56:39one
00:56:40making his
00:56:41way down
00:56:42to the
00:56:42third gear
00:56:43parabolica
00:56:44there is
00:56:45Patrick
00:56:45Tombe
00:56:46in second
00:56:47position
00:56:47we haven't
00:56:49seen John
00:56:49Watson for
00:56:50a while
00:56:50but rest
00:56:52assured
00:56:52those of
00:56:53you in
00:56:53Britain
00:56:54that he
00:56:54is still
00:56:55in fourth
00:56:56position
00:56:56and those
00:56:57of you in
00:56:58Australia
00:56:58who I
00:56:59know
00:57:00have adopted
00:57:01Keke Rosberg
00:57:02in lieu of
00:57:03Alan Jones
00:57:04as a sort
00:57:05of adopted
00:57:06son of
00:57:07Australia
00:57:08as the
00:57:08Williams
00:57:08team leader
00:57:09he is
00:57:10charging
00:57:11magnificently
00:57:12onwards
00:57:13two laps
00:57:14behind
00:57:15the race
00:57:15leader
00:57:16and Keke
00:57:17Rosberg
00:57:17is in
00:57:18ninth
00:57:18position
00:57:19now
00:57:19albeit a
00:57:20long
00:57:20long way
00:57:21behind
00:57:21no chance
00:57:22at the
00:57:23present moment
00:57:23of getting
00:57:24world
00:57:24champions
00:57:25and he
00:57:27will have
00:57:28the consolation
00:57:29not that he
00:57:29can think
00:57:30about it
00:57:30because he's
00:57:30pretty busy
00:57:31at the
00:57:31moment
00:57:32but if the
00:57:32race positions
00:57:33that obtain
00:57:34now are
00:57:35held to the
00:57:36end of the
00:57:36Italian
00:57:37Grand Prix
00:57:37and there's
00:57:38not very
00:57:38long to go
00:57:39he will be
00:57:41going
00:57:41two last
00:57:42favours
00:57:42nine points
00:57:44ahead of
00:57:44John Watson
00:57:45and that
00:57:46means to say
00:57:47that John
00:57:48Watson would
00:57:48have to win
00:57:49in America
00:57:50to win the
00:57:51world championship
00:57:51even if
00:57:53Rosberg was
00:57:54out of the
00:57:54points
00:57:54altogether
00:57:55and whilst
00:57:56it's not
00:57:57impossible
00:57:57it would be
00:57:58a very
00:57:59very stern
00:58:00challenge
00:58:00for the
00:58:01Alstom and
00:58:01John Watson

01:05:35of which
01:05:36there will be
01:05:36only two laps
01:05:37to go
01:05:38and Renault
01:05:39are going to
01:05:39have very
01:05:39divided
01:05:40feelings
01:05:41they're going
01:05:41to be
01:05:41naturally
01:05:42delighted
01:05:42that one
01:05:43of their
01:05:43cars
01:05:44has won
01:05:44they are not
01:05:45going to be
01:05:45best pleased
01:05:46that the man
01:05:46who was driving
01:05:47it was
01:05:47Rennie Arnoux
01:05:48who they think
01:05:50has treated
01:05:50men pretty
01:05:52shabbily
01:05:53he's going to
01:05:54Renault
01:05:55he's going to
01:05:56Ferrari
01:05:57and he's
01:05:58deliberately
01:05:59defeating
01:05:59Alain Prost
01:06:00in the
01:06:01French Grand Prix
01:06:02at Paul Ricard
01:06:03and therefore
01:06:04in their view
01:06:05virtually destroying
01:06:07Alain Prost's chances
01:06:08at the world
01:06:09championship this year
01:06:10so maybe the
01:06:11champagne will come out
01:06:12but maybe they won't
01:06:13bother to take the
01:06:14cork out of it
01:06:15there is Patrick
01:06:15Tombe
01:06:16in second position
01:06:18it's going to be
01:06:19Ferrari's second
01:06:20and third
01:06:20we look at
01:06:21Michele
01:06:22Albareto
01:06:23the second
01:06:23of those two
01:06:24cars
01:06:24he's in fifth
01:06:25position
01:06:25that means
01:06:26that once again
01:06:27this extremely
01:06:29popular
01:06:29Italian
01:06:30who is staying
01:06:32with Ken
01:06:33Tyrrell next year
01:06:34but we don't know
01:06:35what engine
01:06:36is going to be
01:06:37in the Tyrrell
01:06:37we know
01:06:37that it's going
01:06:38to be a turbo
01:06:39and we suspect
01:06:39it's a BMW
01:06:40there is Guerrero
01:06:42who is in
01:06:4313th position
01:06:44here is Tombe
01:06:45a lap ahead
01:06:47of the
01:06:49fifth place man
01:06:50Michele Albareto
01:06:51number three
01:06:52Arnoux is now
01:06:56on his
01:06:5651st lap
01:06:58in this 52 lap race
01:06:59and my goodness
01:07:01how kicky
01:07:01Rosberg is charging
01:07:02you just caught
01:07:04a quick glimpse
01:07:05of the tail end
01:07:07of the Williams
01:07:08line
01:07:08out there
01:07:09Patrick Tombe
01:07:12there
01:07:12is going through
01:07:13into his
01:07:1451st lap
01:07:16he has now
01:07:17only got
01:07:187.2 miles
01:07:20less than that
01:07:21between himself
01:07:22and a fine
01:07:23second place
01:07:24and if he gets
01:07:25that
01:07:26that will be
01:07:276 points
01:07:28that will give him
01:07:2825 points
01:07:30in the championship
01:07:30and if he had
01:07:31started in it earlier
01:07:32he might well
01:07:34have won it
01:07:34this man
01:07:41who speaks
01:07:41French
01:07:42with a very
01:07:43very distinct
01:07:44country accent
01:07:45who is alleged
01:07:46to have been
01:07:48employed by Renault
01:07:49in the first place
01:07:50partly because
01:07:51that was the sort
01:07:52of image they wanted
01:07:53he has served them
01:07:54extremely well
01:07:56in the four years
01:07:57that he has driven
01:07:58for them
01:07:58because his
01:08:00the number
01:08:02of pole positions
01:08:03in practice
01:08:04fastest place
01:08:05on the grid
01:08:05that Rennie Arnoux
01:08:06has scored
01:08:07is practically
01:08:09a record
01:08:0914
01:08:10it's less than
01:08:11that of
01:08:12Nicky Lauda
01:08:12who has scored
01:08:14an incredible
01:08:1524 pole positions
01:08:17and who by the way
01:08:18is under the ring
01:08:19but as Arnoux
01:08:21now comes
01:08:22out of the
01:08:23parabolica
01:08:24to complete
01:08:25lap 51
01:08:27to cross
01:08:28the line
01:08:28to go
01:08:31into
01:08:31his last
01:08:32lap
01:08:33on his way
01:08:34to his
01:08:34fourth
01:08:35Grand Prix
01:08:36victory
01:08:36in his career
01:08:37he is
01:08:39some 14
01:08:40seconds ahead
01:08:41of Patrick
01:08:41Thornbay
01:08:42I have got
01:08:43the stopwatch
01:08:43running
01:08:44the gap
01:08:44now is
01:08:4514.35
01:08:46seconds
01:08:47the second
01:08:48Frenchman
01:08:48is going to be
01:08:49Frenchman
01:08:49first and second
01:08:50that man
01:08:51will win
01:08:53if he can
01:08:53just keep going
01:08:54and
01:08:55it would be
01:08:57the bitterest
01:08:59luck
01:09:00if
01:09:00Rennie Arnoux
01:09:02there did not
01:09:03keep going
01:09:04he's only got
01:09:04half a lap
01:09:05to go now
01:09:06and the gap
01:09:07between
01:09:07Patrick Thornbay
01:09:09and Mario
01:09:09Andretti
01:09:10who is in
01:09:12third position
01:09:13and it's going to be
01:09:14a wonderful
01:09:14comeback
01:09:15for the
01:09:16Italian American
01:09:17I'm waiting
01:09:17for Andretti
01:09:18to cross the line
01:09:19he does it
01:09:1935 seconds
01:09:21so the gaps
01:09:23are being maintained
01:09:24all the way
01:09:24round the last
01:09:25left
01:09:26there is

01:09:45third gear
01:09:46as he sets
