00:00:00Nearly everyone displays an incredible amount of enthusiasm for their home country drivers and their beloved red Ferraris
00:00:07But there's another red car here today
00:00:09Making its debut in Formula One racing the Carl Haas owned be it's responsored Lola driven by former world champion Alan Jones
00:00:17Today live on ESPN one of the world's great sporting events the 56th Italian Grand Prix
00:00:25Buongiorno and welcome to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix
00:00:29This is one of the most famous and historic racing facilities in all the world
00:00:33Back in the 50s the Americans brought their front-engine roadster championship cars to compete here on the high banked oval
00:00:40Well that oval is no longer used what they will use today is a 3.6 mile road course
00:00:45Good afternoon everybody. I'm Bob Jenkins along with John Bisognano and John when you step into this facility. There's electricity in the air
00:00:51Well what's generating all that electricity is over
00:00:55300,000 Italians coming to this race to hopefully help generate a Ferrari victory and really you have to multiply that times two in Italy
00:01:02So it's like six hundred thousand people here
00:01:04They have some very large holes in the gates, and it's sort of a tradition to fill the stadium with as many people as possible
00:01:11Michele Alvarado one of the Ferrari drivers among those searching for a world championship. He did not qualify all that well
00:01:17Well after a lot of trying over the past two days
00:01:19He's only ended up seventh and the person that he's really scrapping for the title with Alain Prost is fifth
00:01:24So there's going to be good midfield racing and Anton Center right at the very front grabbing another pole position
00:01:30It's going to be a very spectacular day an exciting day for American Formula One fans
00:01:35The Carl Haas owned Beatrice Lola is in the field with Alan Jones driving right Alan Jones returning from retirement
00:01:42Coming back into Formula One
00:01:43They are not very happy with their qualifying position of 25
00:01:47But really at this point this is a victory for them to even be here only signing a Beatrice
00:01:52Contract a few months ago and here they are at their first Grand Prix carrying the American flag right into competition
00:01:58Should be an exciting race stay with us for the 56th Italian Grand Prix
00:02:03And our race is being brought to you by Dodge and the totally new Dodge Lancer the revolutionary new age of sedans
00:02:10And by Kenwood car stereo sound perfection. It doesn't get any closer than Kenwood
00:02:17And by BFGoodrich makers of high-performance TA radials we make cars perform
00:02:23We'll be back to check the starting lineup for today's Italian Grand Prix in just a moment
00:02:30It's on the pole for today's race
00:02:32He qualified faster than anyone else during the second qualifying session yesterday afternoon and John had an opportunity to talk with Ayrton
00:02:40Hey, I'll tell you had another pole position. Were you happy with the way the car was performing during qualifying?
00:02:47Well, I think it was good enough to be on pole
00:02:51But I have to say I never expected to be on pole here first because I never drove here before
00:02:57Second because you need all the power
00:03:00That you can have in qualifying and the maximum that we can have is not enough to compete against
00:03:06Another engines who are powerful more powerful
00:03:09But I think somehow we got a compromise that that at the end proved to be better
00:03:15Well, what about in the race you're a driver who doesn't like to compromise you like to lead what's your race strategy then
00:03:23Well, there is no strategy all depends on the car that I can have tomorrow between car engine tires
00:03:30if I can have a quick car, but reliable then we may have a chance, but
00:03:35It's very difficult to predict anything. You've led more laps this season than any other driver. In fact more than many drivers combined
00:03:43What what is the reliable reliability factor you're facing here in Monza
00:03:49Well so far we didn't have big problems with the right reliability
00:03:53Our biggest problem through the season has been reliability on the engines
00:03:58Lately, I finished the last race. I finished second third, so we may have gone, you know got through
00:04:04If that's the case, we may be in you know in a position to fight for the first three places tomorrow
00:04:10And fuel consumption is that a problem here in Monza, I don't think so
00:04:14I don't think here is a problem with a few it's more a problem with power and
00:04:19reliability
00:04:20Thank you, John. Stay tuned now. The Italian Grand Prix is just moments away
00:04:25Here this afternoon is not too bad. Although it is overcast. The temperature is 70 degrees
00:04:31We have an easterly wind at about five miles an hour
00:04:33But at times the flags across from us are standing completely still and there is about a 30% chance of rain
00:04:41During the course of the event you can see some of the drivers are getting a little bit of a headache
00:04:45They're getting a little bit of a headache. They're getting a little bit of a headache
00:04:48They're getting a little bit of a headache. They're getting a little bit of a headache
00:04:51During the course of the event you can see some of the drivers are in their cars
00:04:56In fact, all of them are in their cars getting ready for the start of the Italian Grand Prix
00:05:01So let's take a look at the points as we go into this 12th race of the Formula One season
00:05:07Alain Frost is on top of the point standings with a total of 56
00:05:12second in point
00:05:13Michele Alvareto the Italian driving the Ferrari with 53
00:05:17Third in point standings Elio D'Angeli with 30
00:05:21Tied for fourth place Stefan Johansson in the other Ferrari and Ayrton Senna in the Lotus
00:05:2817 drivers have scored this year in Formula One racing sixth in the standings KK Rosberg
00:05:33Seventh is Niki Lauda eighth Nelson Piquet ninth Patrick Tambay tenth Jacques Lafitte
00:05:39Followed by Thierry Booson, Nigel Mansell, Stephan Bellof, the late Stephan Bellof, Derek Warwick, Andrea de Cesaris
00:05:46Reni Arnoux and Mark Schur
00:05:50As far as
00:05:52Constructors points are concerned Ferrari is in the lead with a total of 75 McLaren second with 70 and Lotus with 49 points
00:06:00Well, the track that these drivers will be competing on here this afternoon is
00:06:053.6 miles in length
00:06:07There are five turns for right handers and one left hand turn and there are two
00:06:14Chicanes and one of the chicanes is here on the main straightaway. The other one is on the backstretch
00:06:21Now, let's look at the starting lineup for today's
00:06:2456
00:06:26Italian Grand Prix as
00:06:28Engines are fired and the drivers prepare for their warm-up laps on the pole in car number 12
00:06:35The Lotus Renault from Brazil Ayrton Senna qualifying at
00:06:39153 point three seven eight miles an hour
00:06:42Outside of the front row car number six the William Honda the driver from Finland KK Rothberg
00:06:48In the second row car number five the William Honda the driver from Great Britain Nigel Mansell
00:06:54Outside of row number two in the Bravo BMW car number seven Nelson Pique
00:07:12Inside
00:07:29In the fifth row car number eight Mark Shore from Switzerland the Brabham BMW outside of row number five car number 28 the other Ferrari
00:07:37Stefan Johansson the driver from Sweden in the sixth row will be Gerhardt Berger in car number 17 the Arrows
00:07:44BMW outside of row number six car number 16 Derek Warwick and the Renault the seventh row car number 22
00:07:51Riccardo Patrese from Italy in the Alfa Romeo
00:07:55outside of row number seven car number 18 the Barclays arrow BMW Terry Bootson the eighth row car number 19
00:08:02Teo Bobby in the Toleman heart
00:08:05Outside of row number eight will be car number one the defending world champion in the Marlboro McLaren
00:08:10Nicky Lauda the ninth row car number 23 the Alfa driven by Eddie Cheever from the United States
00:08:17Outside of row number nine will be car number three the Tyrrell Renault driven by Martin Brundle the tenth row Felice
00:08:23Strife making his second appearance in the Formula One race in car number 25 the Liget taking the place of
00:08:30The driver who lost the ride earlier this week that of course was Andrea de Cesaris
00:08:35Outside of row number 10 will be Jacques Lapid strife teammate in the other Liget the 11th row here Carlo
00:08:41Giussani in the Toleman car number 20 outside of row number 11 will be car number 24
00:08:47Uber off and goner in the Osella the 12th row here Luigi Martini in car number 29 outside of row number 12 will be the
00:08:55Grand Bandit driven by Kenny Atkinson car 10 the last row has Alan Jones the number 33
00:09:01Beatrice Lovahart making his debut in Formula One racing here this weekend in car number 33
00:09:0713 will be Felice Allio car number 9 the Skull Bandit ramp
00:09:11Those are the 26 starters and you can see the cars now are in the second chicane
00:09:16Which is in the backstretch headed for a straightaway, which will lead them to corner number five
00:09:21Which is referred to as the parabolic occur?
00:09:25Then on to the main straightaway
00:09:27Then on it's a long main straightaway in which the speed will reach close to 200 miles an hour John
00:09:33The electricity is here and it rivals only Indianapolis
00:09:37I believe as far as excitement prior to the start of this race the president of
00:09:43Italy is here president taxi and about
00:09:47300,000 race fans set the cheer on their drivers and their cars here this afternoon
00:09:52Absolutely, right Bob earlier. We were talking about how this is as electric as Indianapolis is and for sure the Italian fans
00:10:00All have one thing in mind
00:10:02They only want this electricity to help Ferrari up the grid and score an Italian victory here
00:10:07Nothing means more to them all year long football sports even secondary to motor racing here this weekend
00:10:14Every one of the
00:10:15300,000 plus Italians here and who knows how many through the gates and through the holes in the gate
00:10:20So all they have in mind is Ferrari victory
00:10:24the race will consist of
00:10:2651 laps around the three point six mile course that will make it a total of
00:10:33183 point eight miles now the cars are coming down the straightaway and lighting up for the start of the race
00:10:41Airton Senna is on the pole in the Lotus outside
00:10:45KK Rosberg then in row number two the other Williams ponders driven by Nigel Mansell
00:10:50and Nelson Piquet begins for us
00:10:52in the upper left hand side of the screen
00:10:54you will see the
00:10:56stop sign that will flash green
00:10:58and this Italian Grand Prix will be underway
00:11:10And there it is
00:11:26Two cars are unable to get going here on the main straightaway. Meanwhile, the cars are proceeding through the first
00:11:34Now one of the cars has failed to go and the starting line is underway the only one that did not start
00:11:41Would be one of the Toleman cars and I believe that is KO Bobby who was unable to go
00:11:47Meanwhile, the race is underway and KK Rosberg has jumped out into the lead
00:11:55It's actually Ghazani in the second hole and starting fairly well back in the pack but still both
00:12:01Atchison and Ghazani two of Hart's powered cars did not make it off the grid
00:12:05The Beatrice car got a very good start
00:12:08So as far as you see are coming off the cars hitting bottom because of the full fuel load
00:12:13They have 55 gallons of fuel in the cars right now, and they are slung very lightly
00:12:18So when it's that heavy you will see sparks. Nothing to really be alarmed at
00:12:23And you'll see that diminishing throughout the race
00:12:25There is Michele Alvareto
00:12:27And you can expect the Italian
00:12:30Television crews to focus in on the Ferraris because of course they are the home favorite
00:12:40You can see the cars bottoming out and throwing up sparks as they proceed down the back stretch and into
00:12:47Parabolica Curve
00:12:59A tremendous amount of noise here as the cars come down the straightaway
00:13:13We are underneath an overhang or an awning and the noise really reverberates as it comes up in here
00:13:22KK Rosberg is the leader
00:13:25And then the Lotus of Ayrton Senna
00:13:29Well in the past few races we have seen KK Rosberg jump out into a lead
00:13:34But in the last couple of races he has experienced mechanical problems and has fallen out early
00:13:39We'll see if that bad luck continues to plague the Williams Honda car driven by KK Rosberg
00:13:47It's been a good opening lap actually
00:13:50The chicane is normally a very tough place for a first lap
00:13:53And although there were a few cars going in the dirt no one really touched one another
00:13:57These F1 cars can go through the dirt as long as they are not bending suspension parts by touching one another
00:14:03It seems like a very safe and practical opening lap here
00:14:07And we have some good news for the American fans
00:14:10As Alan Jones in the Beatrice car that has been plagued by 5 blown engines this week
00:14:17Passed 6 cars on the opening lap and is now up into 18th position
00:14:30As you can see Alain Gros is making a move on Ayrton Senna
00:14:35Gros goes into 3rd and Ayrton Senna the pole sitter has dropped back to 4th place
00:14:53You know Bob there is an unusual point
00:14:55Ayrton Senna actually going backwards on a grid
00:14:59That's something we haven't seen yet this year
00:15:01He always keeps the wick very far turned up
00:15:03That means he plugs in plenty of turbo
00:15:05He does not like to follow
00:15:07Now when we were talking to him earlier
00:15:09He said that I am going to change my strategy this race
00:15:13And actually be a little bit more of a follower
00:15:15He hasn't finished hardly any Grand Prix
00:15:17And has led more than anyone else
00:15:19So Ayrton Senna definitely using a different race strategy here this weekend
00:15:23Well just as we mentioned the possibility of a good run by the Beatrice car driven by Alan Jones
00:15:29We are sorry to report that it is in the pit area already
00:15:32Now it's moving back out on to the racetrack
00:15:35So Alan Jones after passing 6 cars in the opening lap
00:15:39Makes a pit stop on lap number 2
00:15:41But is now back out there on the racetrack
00:15:43You're watching Alain Gros running in 3rd place
00:15:46Followed by the two bonuses
00:15:48Ayrton Senna and Elio D'Angeli
00:15:51There is the paraplegic curve
00:15:54And the leader continues to be
00:15:57A.K. Rushford, Nigel Mansell's car
00:16:00The motor is breaking up very badly
00:16:03As it comes down the straightaway
00:16:05We'll be back with more from the Italian Grand Prix
00:16:08Right after this message
00:16:17Bob Jenkins and John Bisognato
00:16:19Back in 4th second lead for the Italian Grand Prix
00:16:23You're watching here a battle for 4th position
00:16:26Involving the Lotuses
00:16:28Elio D'Angeli is in car number 11
00:16:31Has passed his teammate Ayrton Senna in number 12
00:16:34So Elio D'Angeli has moved up a spot
00:16:37And things are not going well here in the early going
00:16:40For our pole sitter Senna
00:16:43Well it's something that we're going to have to discover later on in the race
00:16:46The cars of that type always try and do better later in the race
00:16:50Historically they've been doing extremely poorly
00:16:55In the opening part of the race
00:16:57But try and make up the laps as they come along
00:17:00The thing I'm watching is that we have our world champion
00:17:04Niki Lauda starting way back in 16th position
00:17:07And coming through the pack quite well
00:17:09So we're going to try and keep you updated on that particular scene
00:17:12Niki does not like to stay behind for any time whatsoever
00:17:17And Ayrton Senna may have some type of a problem
00:17:20He may not be just changing his racing logic
00:17:23He may have a problem that's causing him to slow slightly
00:17:27One thing he does not want to do
00:17:29Is let Elio D'Angeli by
00:17:31He may give up a few places to Lauda
00:17:35In the opening laps
00:17:37But right now there's an awful lot of contract negotiations
00:17:41Going on in the Lotus
00:17:44And it's very important that
00:17:46He still keeps challenging as the team leader for Lotus
00:17:50In the pit there you saw the Williams cars
00:17:52Of course with the Honda powered engine
00:17:54They've been having trouble here also
00:17:58Nigel Mansell
00:18:00Who was running in 2nd position
00:18:02Has made a pit stop
00:18:04Mansell is in the pit
00:18:06The lead held by
00:18:08KK Rosberg
00:18:10Also in the pit area
00:18:11And we saw a shot of it just a few minutes ago
00:18:13One of the Benetton cars
00:18:15Driven by Eddie Sieber
00:18:17From the United States
00:18:19There is Michele Alboreto
00:18:21And
00:18:23The number 7 car of
00:18:25Nelson Piquet
00:18:27Doing battle on the racetrack
00:18:29You know Bob
00:18:31We were talking about how many engine problems
00:18:33There have been this weekend
00:18:35There's been 16 hard engines
00:18:37Completely destroyed themselves
00:18:39That's the Ram team
00:18:41The Tolman team and the Beatrice
00:18:4316 engines gone
00:18:45In 2 qualifying sessions
00:18:47And 2 practice sessions
00:18:49An awful lot of hardware
00:18:51To try and rebuild for the next Grand Prix
00:18:53Where they're supposed to be running in only 4 days time
00:18:57Nigel Mansell has
00:18:59Pulled out of the pit area
00:19:01And back onto the racetrack
00:19:03In a very six-pounding engine
00:19:05He meant for a stop
00:19:07Back up there
00:19:13The crowd rises to its feet
00:19:19Good battle going on here
00:19:21Involving a Ferrari
00:19:23And a Brabham
00:19:25Of course that's not what the Italian fans
00:19:27Want to see at the moment
00:19:29They want to see Michele Alboreto
00:19:31Moving up from here
00:19:33And for him to have him
00:19:35Going backwards at this point
00:19:37In the race makes the Italians
00:19:39Extremely unhappy
00:19:41When he went past the Brabham fan
00:19:43Losing that position
00:19:45Every Italian here was hollering and cheering
00:19:47Trying to give him some sort of boost
00:19:49But obviously the Pirelli tires on the Brabham
00:19:51Are working very well
00:19:53The Brabham are breaking into these machines
00:19:55Also very well
00:19:57Their acceleration out of the corner
00:19:59Has been working all weekend long
00:20:01Extremely powerful here this afternoon
00:20:03Well there was a battle for
00:20:05Sixth position but it's opened up a little bit
00:20:07Now as Piquet has
00:20:09Sixth spot followed by
00:20:11This man and this car
00:20:13Michele Alboreto the Ferrari
00:20:15Second in point standings
00:20:17As we go into the Italian Grand Prix
00:20:21The advantage for the leader
00:20:23K.K. Rosberg
00:20:27Has opened up to about eighth second
00:20:29K.K. Rosberg with an eight second lead
00:20:31On Alain Prost
00:20:41There you saw the tremendous speed differential
00:20:43Between the giant power of McLaren
00:20:45And the vehicle's heart
00:20:47McLaren have been
00:20:49Showing an incredible
00:20:51Reliability on motors
00:20:53Alain Prost certainly looks like
00:20:55His motor is working well for him
00:20:57Prost has had
00:20:59No problems throughout qualifying
00:21:01He wanted to qualify a little bit better
00:21:03But the tag cannot be turned up
00:21:05Too high in qualifying first
00:21:11During the race you may see them qualifying
00:21:13A little bit more slowly than you would see
00:21:15But during the race that engine
00:21:17Is considered to be the number one power plant
00:21:19To have
00:21:21Alain Prost running in second spot
00:21:23Behind our leader K.K. Rosberg
00:21:25Who continues to set the pace here
00:21:27Third place belongs to
00:21:29Elio De Angelis
00:21:31Fourth is Ayrton Senna
00:21:33In fifth place
00:21:35Is Nelson Piquet
00:21:37And running sixth right now is
00:21:39Michele Alboreto
00:21:41In car number 27
00:21:43K.K. Rosberg is another gentleman
00:21:45Who's been leading several races
00:21:47This Grand Prix season but hasn't really been able
00:21:49To finish too many of them
00:21:51So Ayrton Senna and K.K. Rosberg
00:21:53Have been up front many times
00:21:55They have not been able
00:21:57To get a point
00:21:59And have the race result that you would hope
00:22:01That they could be able to achieve
00:22:03After such great qualifying effort
00:22:07You're watching live
00:22:09The Italian Grand Prix from Monza
00:22:11And we'll be back with more
00:22:13Back in Monza
00:22:15The Italian Grand Prix
00:22:17In eighth place
00:22:19Fifty-one laps
00:22:21Will make up this contest
00:22:23At the moment
00:22:25K.K. Rosberg is the leader
00:22:27With
00:22:29Alain Prost running in second position
00:22:31And in third is
00:22:33Elio De Angelis
00:22:35In fifth
00:22:37K.K. Rosberg
00:22:39In fourth
00:22:41Making his first move
00:22:43In the early stages of the race
00:22:45Is Niki Lauda
00:22:47In the number one
00:22:49He is right now in seventh
00:22:51But
00:22:53Niki Lauda started his race
00:22:55In 16th position
00:22:57But has that McLaren working
00:22:59So well
00:23:01There is a long road
00:23:03That he approaches
00:23:05Some slower cars on the racetrack
00:23:07As you mentioned
00:23:09Niki Lauda is doing a tremendous job
00:23:11Coming up through the grid
00:23:13We all expected that
00:23:15This is even a bit spectacular
00:23:19The way Prost is running
00:23:21These McLarens have to be
00:23:23Extremely well dialed in
00:23:25K.K. Rosberg certainly has
00:23:27A fairly good lead this early on
00:23:29But still
00:23:31Prost's McLaren tag
00:23:33Is certainly going to be
00:23:35The fastest passing person
00:23:37Every car on the brakes
00:23:39Time after time we've seen
00:23:41The McLarens having their
00:23:43Big on-track advantage
00:23:45Because of the engine reliability
00:23:47But as far as passing
00:23:49It's been on the brakes
00:23:51Into the pits comes
00:23:53The Benetton-sponsored Alfa Romeo
00:23:55By Riccardo Patrese
00:23:59Patrese of course being an Italian
00:24:01This is another sad point
00:24:03For this particular event
00:24:05And also a sad moment
00:24:07For the American fans
00:24:09The Carl Hasselhoff
00:24:11Is in the pit area
00:24:13And Alex Jones is out
00:24:15Of that car
00:24:17It's an early out for Alex Jones
00:24:19But of course this is the
00:24:21End of that car
00:24:23Much difficulty with the
00:24:25Engines this week
00:24:29Much better things next week
00:24:31As we go to Spa-Belgium
00:24:33For the delayed Belgium Grand Prix
00:24:35The one that was postponed
00:24:37Earlier this year because
00:24:39Of poor track conditions
00:24:41By the way we saw in the pit
00:24:43A few minutes ago had pulled back out
00:24:45Onto the racetrack
00:24:47Jones is very determined
00:24:49We were talking to him
00:24:51Earlier this weekend
00:24:53He was extremely pleased
00:24:55With the way the car was handling
00:24:57He said as far as coming to the first Grand Prix
00:24:59We're not running qualifying tires
00:25:01Or qualifying boots
00:25:05Terribly unreliable
00:25:07He said he would have been happy
00:25:09Just to have a clear warm up this morning
00:25:11And of course they lost another race
00:25:13Motor during the warm up
00:25:15We're watching the battle
00:25:17For 7th place
00:25:19And Mikaely Alvarado
00:25:21It looks like is standing a chance
00:25:23Of losing that spot to Niki Lauda
00:25:25Who has come on strong
00:25:27On the racetrack
00:25:29K.K. Rosberg
00:25:41K.K. has passed Nigel
00:25:43Let's put a lap on him
00:25:45Eric Horwich
00:25:47And Theo Fabi
00:25:49Have both come into the pit area
00:25:51Now we see this battle
00:25:53For 7th position really heating up
00:25:55As Niki Lauda
00:25:57Passes
00:26:037th position
00:26:05Goes Niki Lauda
00:26:07I'll tell you if K.K. Rosberg can maintain his lead
00:26:09He's going to have to
00:26:11He's going to have to even start stretching it out
00:26:13Further because seriously
00:26:15Lauda is lapping as quick as anyone else
00:26:17On this racetrack
00:26:19And he is just blowing off
00:26:21Everyone in front of him
00:26:25Has just passed Alvarado
00:26:31The McLarens have an advantage
00:26:33In every part of this track at the moment
00:26:35They're not using as much track as
00:26:37Tires and anything as the other teams
00:26:39You can see that they can
00:26:41Certainly take any line that they want
00:26:43With the Toleman slowing down
00:26:47Alonso is coming around
00:26:49Who's got her there in the Osella
00:26:51Alonso is running in 2nd position
00:26:53But the distance between
00:26:55Himself
00:26:59K.K. Rosberg now has stretched
00:27:01Out to almost 10 seconds
00:27:03They come out of corner number 5
00:27:09Alonso crossing the
00:27:11Line completing lap number
00:27:1312 of this race
00:27:15It's about a 10 second lead for
00:27:17K.K. Rosberg
00:27:23The Bonases
00:27:25Continue to run 3rd and 4th
00:27:27Here
00:27:29With DeAngelis in 3rd place
00:27:31And Senna in 4th
00:27:33With the Lauda
00:27:37But Lauda now is beginning to pull away
00:27:41And into the pit area
00:27:43Is Nelson Piquet for a quick stop
00:27:47Here he comes back out onto the racetrack
00:27:49But a costly stop for
00:27:51Nelson Piquet
00:27:55He was doing extremely well Bob
00:27:57It's too bad he had to make that
00:27:59Piquet to try and
00:28:01Make up that much time
00:28:07I didn't see them doing anything
00:28:09Else in the car but tires
00:28:11He was the fastest qualifier for Pirelli
00:28:13And there you have
00:28:15The race standings at the moment
00:28:17K.K. Rosberg first
00:28:19DeAngelis, correction Alonso
00:28:212nd Elliot DeAngelis 3rd
00:28:23Senna 4th, Lauda starting from 6th
00:28:25He's all the way up to 6th
00:28:291 point for the Ferraris
00:28:31In 6th place
00:28:33So those are the standings as we have completed
00:28:3513 laps
00:28:37We'll be right back with more action
00:28:39From the 56th Italian
00:28:43ESPN continues its coverage
00:28:45Of Formula 1 racing
00:28:47John and I will be at
00:28:53To cover the Grand Prix circuit
00:28:55And watch the tremendous points battle
00:28:57That is underway
00:29:01Has been newly repaved
00:29:03In fact the race was postponed earlier this year
00:29:05Because the track surface had not yet
00:29:07Stabilized but it's okay now
00:29:09And we'll be there a week from today
00:29:11For the Belgian Grand Prix
00:29:13We invite you to join us at 9.30
00:29:15On Sunday morning
00:29:17Pacific time
00:29:21Here at the Italian Grand Prix
00:29:23The leader is K.K. Rosberg
00:29:25And here he is
00:29:27Right behind him is his teammate Nigel Mansell
00:29:29But Mansell is a lap down
00:29:312nd spot belongs to Alonso
00:29:37Trailing Rosberg by about 10 seconds
00:29:39DeAngelis is 3rd followed by
00:29:41Senna, Lauda, Alboreto
00:29:43Johansen, Campe and Schur
00:29:45So the Ferraris are running
00:29:47Together on the race track
00:29:49At 6th and 7th position
00:29:51But have not moved up as quickly
00:29:53As they had hoped to do
00:29:55Or the Italian fans
00:30:07Gerhard Berger in one of the Aero's cars
00:30:09Has pulled into the pits and has shut off the engine
00:30:11And he is out of the race
00:30:13K.K. Rosberg certainly using
00:30:15Every bit of the circuit
00:30:17And a little bit more than
00:30:19The organizer had planned here
00:30:21Breaking very heavily
00:30:23Into the first chicane
00:30:25K.K. Rosberg
00:30:27You can see his teammate behind him
00:30:29But remember that Nigel Mansell
00:30:31Is a lap behind after a pit stop
00:30:33K.K. Rosberg accelerating
00:30:35Out of the first chicane
00:30:37Flat out, 4th gear
00:30:39Up into 5th around the right-hander
00:30:41Grande turn
00:30:43Then onto the back straightaway
00:30:47He missed the mark
00:30:49Out of the Nigel Mansell
00:30:51Car
00:30:55Still seeing a bit of
00:30:57Bottoming out at some portions
00:30:59On the race track
00:31:01As the fuel load gets lighter however
00:31:03We will see less and less of that
00:31:05We understand that
00:31:07Niki Lauda has moved up
00:31:09To 4th position now
00:31:11Dropping Ayrton Senna
00:31:13Back to 5th
00:31:15We continue to watch the leader
00:31:17K.K. Rosberg
00:31:19Now John, this is Senna's first time
00:31:21On this race track
00:31:23For a Grand Prix
00:31:25And we've noticed him dropping back
00:31:27Could he be confused?
00:31:29Perhaps we should say
00:31:31Maybe
00:31:33Getting used to it
00:31:35Bob, I don't think he's confused
00:31:37He's qualified for pole position
00:31:39He obviously knows the circuit very well
00:31:41He learns his circuit very quickly
00:31:43He's only been with the Lotus team
00:31:45This one year but has had so many pole positions
00:31:47He proves that he certainly
00:31:49Learns the circuit
00:31:53I guess that he's actually changing
00:31:55His race strategy
00:31:57He must be getting tired
00:31:59Of going out there on pole positions
00:32:01He may be
00:32:0320, 40, 60% of the race
00:32:05Not having enough fuel left to finish
00:32:07Blowing up a motor
00:32:09Doing something maybe a little silly
00:32:11By overcooking it into the corners
00:32:13And causing a little bit of an accident
00:32:15To himself
00:32:17But he has been certainly driving this race
00:32:19In a much more calculated way
00:32:25And how well they all come around him
00:32:27When these two gentlemen are battling
00:32:29On the Lotus team
00:32:31They say there is no No. 1, No. 2 position
00:32:33But still every team has a No. 1 and No. 2 position
00:32:35And as you can see
00:32:37Nigel Mansell is trying very hard
00:32:39To get by
00:32:41Rossberg, his teammate
00:32:43This is a matter of pride
00:32:45To these drivers
00:32:47They certainly want to be No. 1
00:32:49Within their own race program
00:32:59No. 1
00:33:01No. 2
00:33:03No. 3
00:33:05No. 4
00:33:07No. 5
00:33:09No. 6
00:33:11No. 7
00:33:13No. 8
00:33:15No. 9
00:33:17No. 10
00:33:19No. 11
00:33:21No. 12
00:33:23No. 13
00:33:25No. 14
00:33:27No. 15
00:33:29No. 16
00:33:31No. 17
00:33:33No. 18
00:33:35No. 19
00:33:37No. 20
00:33:39No. 21
00:33:41No. 22
00:33:43No. 23
00:33:45No. 24
00:33:47No. 25
00:33:49No. 26
00:33:51No. 27
00:33:53No. 28
00:33:55No trouble whatsoever
00:33:57That's the third car he's passed
00:33:59Right in front of our viewing point here
00:34:01He has gone by both Ferrari
00:34:03And the Renault-powered car
00:34:05With absolutely no trouble whatsoever
00:34:09The question now becomes
00:34:11Can Mickey Lauda
00:34:13Catch up with
00:34:17Alain Roche
00:34:19His second position, his teammate
00:34:21And the leader
00:34:23And Lauda is about
00:34:2531 seconds
00:34:27Behind
00:34:33And we apologize for any audio problems
00:34:35That we may be having here in Boston
00:34:39It's very difficult for us
00:34:41Because the noise of these race engines
00:34:43Are very loud and
00:34:47Difficult for us to hear ourselves think, John
00:34:49It's too bad, Bob
00:34:51Because things like this
00:34:53Happen when we always
00:34:55Keep our microphones so dead
00:34:57I wish people could hear the brilliant things I say
00:34:59When our microphones go dead
00:35:01Everyone must agree that this is
00:35:03Almost a third-world broadcast
00:35:05Brazil and this one
00:35:07Have to be the most difficult
00:35:09Broadcast of the season
00:35:11And we do apologize for
00:35:13A lack of audio excellence
00:35:15Here in Italy
00:35:17But hopefully
00:35:19The racing action that you're watching
00:35:21Will make up for any difficulties
00:35:23We might be having
00:35:29McLaren running in second spot
00:35:31Car number two
00:35:33You know, Bob, it seems to me that
00:35:35Post is actually losing ground to Keke
00:35:37And I don't think
00:35:39Keke is pulling away
00:35:41So much as Post seems to be
00:35:43Slowing
00:35:45Behind him
00:35:47Closing up on him
00:35:49Post is certainly
00:35:51Slowing out of view
00:35:53There, as you can see relative
00:35:55To try and catch Keke
00:35:57But he also seems to be
00:35:59Getting to be caught
00:36:01From behind, so we'll have to watch
00:36:03That situation a little bit more carefully
00:36:0518 laps
00:36:07Are completed at the Italian
00:36:09Grand Prix
00:36:11And it will be
00:36:13Right back
00:36:27Formula One racing on ESPN
00:36:29The Italian Grand Prix
00:36:31Under way, I'm watching
00:36:33It's John Fisigando
00:36:35We are located
00:36:37Actually out of doors
00:36:39In a grandstand
00:36:41There's a huge roof over us
00:36:43And the tremendous noise
00:36:45That the race engines
00:36:47May come up here and reverberate
00:36:49And make our audio
00:36:51However, at this point
00:36:53In the race, the leader
00:36:55Is Keke Rosberg
00:36:57We're watching him right now
00:36:59Following him is his teammate
00:37:01Nigel Mansell
00:37:03A lap down
00:37:05Alain Prost is running second
00:37:07About 11 and a half seconds back
00:37:09Niki Lauda, who has come on
00:37:11From 16th starting position
00:37:13To be now 32 seconds
00:37:15Behind the leader
00:37:17Running in fourth and fifth place
00:37:19Are the two
00:37:21Lotuses, Elio De Angelis is
00:37:23Fourth, and Ayrton Senna, the pole sitter
00:37:25Is fifth
00:37:27Sixth and seventh
00:37:29Are the two Ferraris
00:37:31In sixth place, Michele Alboreto
00:37:33Seventh is Stefan Johansson
00:37:35Eighth place
00:37:37In ninth place
00:37:39Is Bruno
00:37:41Driven by Patrick Campe
00:37:43And in tenth position
00:37:45Is Nelson
00:37:47Making a stop for
00:37:49Tyres
00:37:55Fighting to get back up
00:37:57Toward the front
00:38:03Looking around this surface
00:38:05And in this crowd
00:38:09Certainly 300,000 people paid
00:38:11We know that, but as we said earlier
00:38:13There are several big holes in the gate
00:38:15And it's Italian tradition to actually
00:38:17Just jam this place packed for days
00:38:19The Italians waiting all year long
00:38:21This is their Indianapolis 500
00:38:23In many ways compared to
00:38:25The American race
00:38:27And the famous motor racing
00:38:29Event in Italy all year long
00:38:31Sit down in Timola
00:38:33Only 120 miles away from here
00:38:35Where the San Marino Grand Prix
00:38:37Is held, it does not have the traditional
00:38:39Atmosphere or the crowd
00:38:41That Lanza seems to pull in every year
00:38:43You know Bob, I've never seen these cars
00:38:45Throwing up the sparks
00:38:47Like I see them throwing them up here
00:38:49I cannot believe this is
00:38:51Impossible to do some damage
00:38:53To the bottom side of these cars
00:38:55When they were fully
00:38:57Downforce type cars
00:38:59With wind tunnels underneath them
00:39:01You could not run the cars
00:39:03That lower
00:39:05With these damages
00:39:07But even though the designers say
00:39:09That they have skid plates underneath
00:39:11The drivers must be taking
00:39:13A tremendous beating
00:39:15To come down fully on their suspension
00:39:17To the point where you see
00:39:19These sparks flying out like this
00:39:21There's an overlay of the longer circuit
00:39:23You have the position of the circuit
00:39:25This is not a good lead
00:39:27But still
00:39:29You have to be watching
00:39:31His rear view mirrors
00:39:33Alonso is an extremely calculated driver
00:39:35He certainly finished
00:39:37Every race
00:39:39And to finish it
00:39:41Is well in the points
00:39:43And in the last final races
00:39:45He has actually gained enough points
00:39:47To go ahead in the world championship
00:39:49He doesn't want to do anything foolish here
00:39:51He realizes what he did
00:39:53He's only sitting on one point
00:39:55And by his finishing
00:39:57In third second
00:39:59He will pick up six points
00:40:01Therefore putting five more points
00:40:03Between them
00:40:05He really has to go ahead
00:40:07And race as hard as he can
00:40:09And keeping his equipment
00:40:11His tires, his engine, his gear box
00:40:13Everything has to be maintained
00:40:15Throughout the entire race
00:40:17Alvarela has to have his
00:40:19Onboard computer totally switched on
00:40:21Here comes
00:40:23Zephan Johansson
00:40:27Zephan Johansson
00:40:29Goes by Michele Alvarela
00:40:31And therefore
00:40:33Knocking Michele down the point situation
00:40:35A little bit closer
00:40:39As you can see
00:40:41The leader K.K. Rochford
00:40:43Approaching some slower traffic now
00:40:45Rochford's got it right in front of Rochford now
00:40:47And one of the Liget cars also there
00:40:49Zephan Johansson is
00:40:51The subject of a little bit of debate
00:40:57And questions regarding next year
00:40:59Will he be back with the Ferrari team
00:41:01Or will he be signing with
00:41:03Another racing team
00:41:05We assume that that
00:41:07Question will be answered in the next few days
00:41:09Possibly
00:41:15Well Zephan Johansson was hoping
00:41:17To get another friendly phone call
00:41:19From Dr. Ferrari on this coming Tuesday
00:41:21But he said that he's not really that pleased
00:41:23With the way negotiations have been going
00:41:25He's not secure in the fact
00:41:27That he will be with them next year
00:41:29He's a fantastic young talent
00:41:31That has certainly come into the Ferrari team
00:41:33In the middle of this season
00:41:35And has held his own
00:41:39He is certainly one of the most deserving drivers
00:41:41In Formula 1
00:41:43And we would all like to see Ferrari go ahead
00:41:45And sign the contract with Zephan Johansson
00:42:15He has held 55 Grand Prix's
00:42:17At this particular circuit
00:42:19Since then, although many revisions
00:42:21And many improvements have been made
00:42:23In the racing service
00:42:25And the racing circuit
00:42:31Well, Monza is a driver's track
00:42:33The drivers like to come here and do well
00:42:35It has a great history
00:42:37You can see Mr. Nauta certainly using all the track there
00:42:39Coming out of the second chicane
00:42:41You can see how much further up on the curve
00:42:43The car is following him
00:42:45Mr. Nauta has announced his retirement
00:42:47But he certainly hasn't announced anyone
00:42:49That he's not going to try as hard as he can
00:42:51To do as well as possible during this major event
00:42:53This year
00:42:55A bit of competition
00:42:57Going on there between
00:42:59He has three pit stops
00:43:01And
00:43:03The Lotuses
00:43:05Alboreto still in 6th place
00:43:07Coming around the back marker
00:43:09Tolman
00:43:11Both Lotuses
00:43:13Seem to be going past our commentary booth
00:43:15Will possibly get by
00:43:17The Alfa Romeo Petrezzi
00:43:19Before the next chicane
00:43:21Out of your camera's view
00:43:25Well used
00:43:27On a Ferrari
00:43:29Everyone, even though Keke Rosberg
00:43:31Is leading the race, the main interest here
00:43:33Is how Ferrari is doing
00:43:35But unfortunately they are not doing
00:43:37As well as everyone hoped
00:43:39Expected and jumped about
00:43:41For the last 12 months
00:43:43And right now, Alboreto
00:43:45In the number 27 Ferrari
00:43:47Is in 6th spot
00:43:49And his teammate Johansson
00:43:51Is in 8th
00:43:53Felipe Aglio looks like a definite
00:43:55Retirement
00:43:57That's another hard powered car
00:43:59As we said earlier
00:44:01That's a hard powered car
00:44:03Between the three teams
00:44:05That lost 16 motors this weekend
00:44:09At around
00:44:11$55,000
00:44:13$60,000 a motor, that's an expensive
00:44:15Friday, Saturday and Sunday
00:44:21Now you can see Johansson
00:44:23Making a move
00:44:25On one of the Tolman cars
00:44:27Johansson
00:44:29Flaps the slower car
00:44:33In the Italian run
00:44:35325 laps have been completed
00:44:37Almost at the half way mark now
00:44:39The lead continues to be held
00:44:41By Keke Rosberg
00:44:43He has lasted the drop
00:44:45Of the green flag
00:44:47Alonso is running 9.5 seconds
00:44:49Behind and we'll be back with more
00:44:51Of our live coverage after this
00:45:03An interesting development here
00:45:07Niki Lauda
00:45:09Has come in for a pit stop
00:45:11Is back out on the race course
00:45:13However he did lose a lap
00:45:15To our leader Keke Rosberg
00:45:17Niki Lauda
00:45:19Started 16th in this race
00:45:21Has moved up to 3rd
00:45:23But had to come in for some fresh rubber
00:45:25I think you're going to see Lauda
00:45:27Going very quickly
00:45:29Fresh rubber when everyone else
00:45:31Is almost half way through
00:45:33This race event
00:45:35Lauda has no other problems
00:45:37With his car besides just a
00:45:39Tire change
00:45:41And he certainly hasn't managed
00:45:43To get on fresh rubber at this particular point
00:45:45But we're going to have to watch
00:45:47To see if there are any other
00:45:49Problems
00:45:51While we were away for that break
00:45:53We didn't see them working on the car
00:45:55Any other way
00:45:59We are told that there was
00:46:01Some damage
00:46:03To the front wing on that race car
00:46:05And they did change the nose
00:46:07Now we have Michele Alvareto
00:46:09In the Ferrari pit for a stop
00:46:11They go to work on that car
00:46:13Changing the tires on the
00:46:15Left side, Michele Alvareto
00:46:17It's going to be a quick stop
00:46:19Only 10.13 seconds
00:46:21And the Italian found that
00:46:23Here as Alvareto
00:46:25Pitches the accelerator and goes back
00:46:27Out onto the race course
00:46:29That was the fastest Ferrari pit stop
00:46:31I've ever seen
00:46:33They sometimes consider
00:46:35The car a pit stop
00:46:3710 seconds is an extremely fast pit stop
00:46:39Anywhere in Formula 1
00:46:41Or anywhere in motorsports
00:46:43They must be congratulated
00:46:45Again, this is their number one race
00:46:47They know that
00:46:53Our race leader snuck into the pit
00:46:55And is also out
00:46:57An extremely fast pit stop
00:46:59Michele Rosberg at fresh tires
00:47:01He goes back out on the racetrack
00:47:03So things are really beginning to happen here
00:47:05As pit stops are being made
00:47:07For fresh rubber
00:47:13Alvareto
00:47:15On the racetrack, a long approach
00:47:17Is being shown as the leader
00:47:19With Rosberg in second
00:47:21At the end of 28 laps
00:47:23There's the lotuses of
00:47:25DeAngelo and Senna
00:47:29The lotuses have been running very strong
00:47:31All year long, especially with the
00:47:33Six-cylinder Renault power car
00:47:35Here in Monza
00:47:37With the long straight
00:47:39The Renaults, I think, will continue to circulate
00:47:41But they both seem to
00:47:43Ride on top of the bumps in the handling
00:47:45Of the candid Alvareto
00:47:47And the Williams, certainly battling it out
00:47:49There, both on fresh rubber
00:47:51Here you see that
00:47:53Now, the car gets extremely unstable
00:47:55Just when the driver
00:47:57Decided to go ahead and give it a big flick
00:47:59And become on the inside
00:48:01And get that moment
00:48:03At the same time
00:48:05Certainly
00:48:07Again
00:48:13He did go ahead and get a hold
00:48:15Of things
00:48:17And went past the candid Alvareto
00:48:19Under braking with ease
00:48:27That wasn't very brave maneuver
00:48:29Earlier, maybe that is Nigel Mansell
00:48:31Sorry, it's not Keke Rosberg
00:48:33But Nigel Mansell is very determined
00:48:35To stay out on that racetrack
00:48:37And perform as well as he can
00:48:39That's a bit unusual, Nigel Mansell
00:48:41Is on well-used race tires
00:48:43Halfway through this race, these tires
00:48:45Can not be developed in Egypt
00:48:47There's brand new sets of rubber
00:48:49To be doing it, but it certainly wasn't displayed there
00:48:51That he's having
00:48:53Any tire trouble whatsoever
00:48:55If they did come in for tires, you would think
00:48:57That Nigel may be finally stopped here
00:48:59In the very, very future
00:49:03But the wheels do not seem set up
00:49:05For this performance
00:49:07It looks like they are set up
00:49:09But no chance of stopping the
00:49:11Immediate future
00:49:15Candid Alvareto is
00:49:17Driving remotely, not right now
00:49:21Let's go
00:49:23And Gilada and Alonso
00:49:25Are behind Alvareto
00:49:27And close to the leader
00:49:29Alonso in front of him
00:49:31And he is in front of him
00:49:33Alonso behind him

00:52:16ESPN's Autowracing 85
00:52:18Continues Sunday, September 22nd
00:52:20At 120 eastern time
00:52:22As we honor
00:52:24Michigan's International Greenway
00:52:28The track where
00:52:30The track where
00:52:32The Detroit NewsCross Brie
00:52:34Join us live
00:52:36At 1230 on September 2nd
00:52:38second, as we present the Detroit News Grand Prix, Larry
00:52:48Neuber, Derek Daly, and Zach Green, here in Montreal,
00:52:55in Canada.
00:52:56That's coming up later this afternoon, here on ESPN.
00:53:00We are at Monza, John Vizzignano and I,
00:53:02for the Italian Grand Prix that is being led right now
00:53:06by Alain Grosz.
00:53:09Grosz is the leader, followed by K.K. Rosberg, Ayrton Senna,
00:53:13Elio de Angelis, Stephane Johansen, Nelson Piquet,
00:53:18Marc Schur, in eighth position, Pele Alvaredo,
00:53:23and ninth is Zicky Lauda.
00:53:25And those are the two cars that we're focusing in on right now.
00:53:30Keep in mind that the Italian television
00:53:32are going to be focusing in on Ferrari all this weekend.
00:53:36They're local television here, television station here,
00:53:39covering the race all weekend long.
00:53:41Interviews with Alvaredo and Stephane Johansen,
00:53:44breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
00:53:46So the Ferrari team is certainly going
00:53:48to get the most television coverage, no matter
00:53:51how they're doing on the circuit.
00:53:52But right now, all of Italy would
00:53:54hope that this coverage would show them a little bit higher
00:53:58up in this field.
00:54:00Everyone in all of Italy is waiting.
00:54:03This event is well marked.
00:54:07And it's almost like a moratorium here.
00:54:09The Italian fans are sitting in front of us.
00:54:12And they really are a bit depressed,
00:54:14I would say, over the Ferrari situation going on.
00:54:17And Nelson, Zicky Lauda, certainly stalking
00:54:19Pele Alvaredo.
00:54:21You can see how far ahead Prost is.
00:54:23He has not had a tire change, as KK Rosberg has not
00:54:27had a tire change.
00:54:28So right now, both KK's pit and McLaren's pit
00:54:34have to be thinking about what sort of race strategy
00:54:36they're going to have here in the closing third
00:54:40of this Italian Grand Prix.
00:54:41Will they bring them in and risk trouble in the pit?
00:54:45Will they risk a tire not being able to be
00:54:48locked on as quickly as possible?
00:54:50Or will they leave them out there, even on rubber?
00:54:53That's certainly going to be slower.
00:54:54They have such a tremendous lead.
00:54:58For the front, it's between the two of them.
00:55:02KK Rosberg continues to close in on the leader, Prost.
00:55:07The interval now is down to less than 10 seconds.
00:55:11He has gained about four seconds in the last two laps.
00:55:14We'll continue to watch this interval between first
00:55:18and second as Alain Prost continues to lead here.
00:55:22Nine cars on the lead lap.
00:55:24The ninth car is Zicky Lauda in number one,
00:55:27who has been in for a pit stop.
00:55:31We understand that one of the Lotus's,
00:55:34one who is behind, Elio De Angelis,
00:55:37may be losing some oil.
00:55:39He has dropped from third to fourth.
00:55:42Senna has moved into third.
00:55:44And the word is that Elio De Angelis Lauda may be losing,
00:55:47Lotus may be losing some oil.
00:55:49We'll keep our eye on that situation also.
00:55:53So I have to correct myself.
00:55:54KK Rosberg did, of course, stop the tires.
00:55:57Nigel Mansell had spilled out there on his race rubber.
00:56:03But really not in contention at this particular point.
00:56:07KK Rosberg is looking at those nine points,
00:56:12thinking of the world champion.
00:56:13A Frenchman has never won the world championship.
00:56:17All the great French drivers in the history of Formula One
00:56:20have never, ever been able to grasp the championship.
00:56:24That really shows what a difficult thing
00:56:26it is to do with KK Rosberg in the pits for a second time.
00:56:30No one knew where he was going.
00:56:32See Ron Dennis plugging himself in there to the headset.
00:56:36Tires not even up on Jack.
00:56:38It looks like it could be terminal for Nicky
00:56:42Lauda in the pits.
00:56:45Certainly not much activity down there.
00:56:49As we go back to the circuit, Kaylee Alvareto,
00:56:54certainly glad to see Lauda coming in.
00:56:57Lauda, of course, with all kinds of difficulties
00:56:59throughout this year, finishing a race.
00:57:02He has only finished three Grands Prix's this year.
00:57:09He was fourth in San Marino.
00:57:11He was fifth in Germany.
00:57:13And of course, he won the most recent Formula One race,
00:57:16the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
00:57:18However, Lauda's car is being pushed back
00:57:22into the garage area.
00:57:24And Nicky Lauda will be a DNF here at Mosa.
00:57:29Well, Nicky Lauda wants to certainly end his Formula One
00:57:33career as a winner.
00:57:34Like he showed, he certainly can be in Holland,
00:57:38dominating that race, going on to victory.
00:57:41And as you say, they have had a terrible year
00:57:45as far as reliability.
00:57:47It's quite amazing that one car, namely a long post,
00:57:51can be so dependable, when Nicky Lauda,
00:57:55with the exact same equipment, can have one of his longest,
00:57:59say, unsuccessful seasons ever.
00:58:02Benetton car in the pits.
00:58:05He's got a great deal of excitement
00:58:07going around the Alfa Romeo there.
00:58:10So it looks like there's a little bit more of a problem
00:58:13than just a tire change.
00:58:15Trazee has been in and out of the pits all afternoon.
00:58:20And it looks like he could be visiting the pit area
00:58:26for a very long time here, as problems
00:58:28continue to plague that Alfa.
00:58:33Well, the interval now between first and second
00:58:36is down to a little over five seconds.
00:58:39A.K.
00:58:39Rothsberg closing in on the leader.
00:58:42Now, Rothsberg.
00:58:45There is Rothsberg in the number six Williams Honda.
00:58:50Rothsberg took the lead at the top of the green flag
00:58:53and held it until he made a pit stop.
00:58:57There you can see the interval.
00:58:58Rothsberg going into the corner, and now
00:59:00Rothsberg going into the corner.
00:59:04Rothsberg held the lead until he made the pit stop.
00:59:07And at that time, Rothsberg took over the lead.
00:59:10However, Rothsberg swinging wide, coming out of Parabolica,
00:59:17trying desperately to catch the leader along the road.
00:59:24One thing, Bob, as the retirements begin to build up,
00:59:28we are actually being able to hear one another a little bit
00:59:32better.
00:59:32There's two cars circling around here.
00:59:34If we have a few more retirements,
00:59:35we may be able to improve the audio quality
00:59:39of this particular broadcast.
00:59:41We do apologize to our fans watching us in the States.
00:59:44It has been extremely difficult here.
00:59:46And everyone around us is certainly
00:59:48having the same trouble.
00:59:50And we will be back with more of our live coverage
00:59:52of the Italian Grand Prix after these messages.
01:00:05The CFA on ESPN, live September 14th at 7.30 Eastern Time.
01:00:13We'll bring you the live action between Texas A&M and Alabama.
01:00:18And if that game is anything like the first two games
01:00:21we've presented on ESPN, it'll be a great one.
01:00:24Of course, the Purdue-Pitt battle, a great one.
01:00:27And last night, how about the game in which UCLA upset BYU
01:00:31in a dramatic last-minute effort.
01:00:34For college football, Texas A&M and Alabama,
01:00:38Saturday, September 14th at 7.30.
01:00:41Bob Diggins and John Bisognato back at the Italian Grand Prix.
01:00:44And there you can see how close it is.
01:00:46The lead car is Michele Alboreto.
01:00:48He is not among the leaders.
01:00:51However, right behind him, one and two,
01:00:54Alain Prost and K.K. Rosberg.
01:00:56Rosberg, after stopping for the tires,
01:01:00was about 13 seconds behind Alain Prost.
01:01:04But now he is right up on Alain's back bumper.
01:01:08And it appears that he may be ready to make a bid for the lead.
01:01:12We watch them as they go down the back stretch here.
01:01:15Now Rosberg dives to the inside.
01:01:17And Rosberg goes in the lead.
01:01:19K.K. Rosberg retakes the top spot from Alain Prost.
01:01:24Well, you saw that Prost really didn't even try and block him
01:01:27in any way whatsoever.
01:01:28It's absolutely a technical positioning on the tires.
01:01:34Prost knows that K.K. has been into the pits.
01:01:40He knows that he's three-quarters of the way through this event
01:01:43on the tires that he started with.
01:01:45And he didn't try and stop Prost coming by in any way whatsoever.
01:01:51So K.K. Rosberg goes back into the lead.
01:01:56While we were away for that last commercial,
01:01:59Stefan Johansson also made a pit stop in the other Ferrari
01:02:03and has dropped a lap down.
01:02:05There are seven cars that are on the lead lap.
01:02:08They include Streich, Rosberg, and Prost.
01:02:13Ayrton Senna is third, followed by Nelson Piquet,
01:02:17Elio de Angelis, Mark Schur, and Alvareto.
01:02:21Eighth is Johansson.
01:02:22Ninth is Jacques Lafitte.
01:02:23And tenth is Mark Brundle.
01:02:25Eleventh, Patrick Tompe.
01:02:27Twelfth, Jerry Bootsen.
01:02:29Thirteenth, Philippe Schreier.
01:02:32And fourteenth is Nigel Mansell, two laps down.
01:02:36Mansell, fourteenth, two laps down.
01:02:38Dale Bobby is fifteenth, four laps down.
01:02:45The defending champion of this race,
01:02:47Niki Lauda, has retired from competition.
01:02:50Now John, Prost appears to be dropping back
01:02:56and perhaps we could say that Rosberg is pulling ahead.
01:02:59Well, Rosberg is going to continue to pull ahead.
01:03:01Even the Ferrari there, who does have a new set of tires,
01:03:04could not even begin to hold off the man from Finland.
01:03:10The few Finnish flags that we've seen here this weekend
01:03:13are all waving at the moment.
01:03:15You have to realize, to drive from Finland to Italy
01:03:19would be like driving from Alaska to Daytona.
01:03:22But still, there is a very good contingent of Finlanders,
01:03:26or Finns, here all the way in Monza.
01:03:29There was even a good contingent of them all the way down in Portugal.
01:03:32Which is even a further drive for these people
01:03:35who follow Keke all over the world.
01:03:37Of course, Finland has not had a great number of international sports stars
01:03:41and Keke Rosberg is the number one sporting person
01:03:46in not only Finland, but what they call the sporting country.
01:03:53Rosberg back in the lead.
01:03:55Alonso Prost drops to second.
01:03:57Now Prost is a former winner here at Monza.
01:04:00Nelson Piquet, who right now is running in fourth place,
01:04:06is running very close to the third place car of Ayrton Senna,
01:04:11is also a former winner of the Italian Grand Prix.
01:04:14There you can see Piquet.
01:04:18Ayrton Senna, Piquet has moved it to third position.
01:04:22They very nearly touched one another right in the middle of the straightaway.
01:04:27Piquet has had some bad luck as far as getting blown off the road
01:04:31in the middle of straightaways in Monte Carlo.
01:04:33If you remember, he was parked off the road
01:04:37by an Alfa Romeo car driven by Patrese.
01:04:41I'm sure that was a very tight moment for both those people.
01:04:45Unfortunately, all those came together right in front of the pit.
01:04:49Just touching wheels would have been disastrous for both of them
01:04:52at well over 165 miles an hour coming out of Parabolica there.
01:04:59Nelson Piquet into third position.
01:05:01Actually, Nelson is a two-time winner of the Italian Grand Prix.
01:05:05He has won once on this racetrack,
01:05:08and the Italian Grand Prix in 1980 was held at Nibala.
01:05:11They did not run here at Monza,
01:05:14but that has been the only year since 1950
01:05:17that there has not been a Grand Prix, a Formula One race here at Monza.
01:05:21Of course, Nibala now has its own Grand Prix.
01:05:25The Grand Prix of San Marino, which is a little tiny municipality
01:05:28with a great pizza restaurant up in the mountains.
01:05:31It's one of those fairytale-type places that you dream about,
01:05:34and when you get there, you're not disappointed.
01:05:36The reason that it is called the San Marino Grand Prix
01:05:39is that there is a rule that the European countries can only have one Grand Prix each.
01:05:45So, of course, Italy can certainly support more than one Grand Prix championship event a year.
01:05:51So the way they got around having two Grand Prix in Italy
01:05:54is called one San Marino.
01:05:56Of course, that's a principality, therefore not part of Italy.
01:05:59And the Italians do not support that event like they do here,
01:06:03but still you'll have, certainly, 150,000 people down in San Marino
01:06:08to open up the Formula One season.
01:06:11Forty-two laps, and that's the place.
01:06:14Forty-two completed, we have ten to go in the Italian Grand Prix.
01:06:18The lead is held by Rosberg.
01:06:20Prost is second, and we'll be right back.
01:06:34Welcome back to Monza, Italy, in the Italian Grand Prix.
01:06:42K.K. Rosberg from Finland is the leader,
01:06:47a long Prost seven seconds behind.
01:06:50Rosberg doing a tremendous job here this afternoon,
01:06:53coming back from the pit stop to retake the lead from Prost,
01:06:57and now stretching out to him at it.
01:07:00It's now a nine-second lead for Rosberg over Prost.
01:07:03Running third is Nelson Piquet,
01:07:06and Ayrton Senna, our pole sitter, is fourth.
01:07:09And John, a tremendous performance by the driver of the rabble car,
01:07:13Mark Schur, car number eight.
01:07:14He's now running in fifth spot.
01:07:16Mark Schur from Basel, Switzerland,
01:07:18again brought in in the middle of the season.
01:07:21He was actually signed up to do sports car racing all year long,
01:07:24had sort of walked away from Formula One
01:07:26after being released from the aeros team last season.
01:07:29Brought in by Bernie Eccleston to fill the number two seat,
01:07:32and would very much like to see Mark Schur do well here.
01:07:36Of course, this is when he's negotiating his contract for next season,
01:07:40and a result here could certainly help his discussions with Bernie Eccleston for next year.
01:07:55K.K. Rosberg coming up on Michele Alboreto.
01:08:00John, I think we'd be remiss if we did not mention the fact that we have a problem here.
01:08:08Michele Alboreto, K.K. Rosberg, was not coming up on Michele Alboreto.
01:08:12It's Spock coming out of Senna's car.
01:08:15Spock will certainly take over the lead here.
01:08:18They have the second clock on him,
01:08:19but there's going to be more sports to be done here than just tires.
01:08:24Well, there's Spock coming from the engine compartment of that race car,
01:08:27and the crew is beginning to take off the cowling around the engine.
01:08:32A tough break for K.K. Rosberg,
01:08:35who has been in this situation times before this year.
01:08:39Leading the race, by far the fastest race car on the track,
01:08:43and then all of a sudden something goes wrong.
01:08:46A long approach, but there he is.
01:08:48Now goes back into the lead.
01:08:52K.K. Rosberg continues to sit helplessly in the pit area.
01:08:57As the crew works on the car, meanwhile,
01:08:59Prost continuing at speed on the racetrack.
01:09:03An unbelievable development again for K.K. Rosberg.
01:09:08As we said earlier, Bob,
01:09:09Prost is the most calculating driver on the circuit,
01:09:12and he does calculate it to the point of,
01:09:14first you must finish the finish first.
01:09:17K.K. Rosberg certainly dominating the race
01:09:20as far as leading,
01:09:21being able to pass both under power and under braking,
01:09:25but not until the end of the race.
01:09:28He only made it to lap number 45 out of 51 laps here,
01:09:32so Prost, with his onboard computer,
01:09:35his own onboard computer, not the engine management system,
01:09:38has again kept everything working together,
01:09:41his teammates into the pits and out of this race.
01:09:44His comparison is circulating perfectly at the moment.
01:09:47As he comes by, he does get a bunch of hex signs
01:09:52from all the Italians in front of us.
01:09:54They're giving sort of rude, rude signs to him.
01:09:58We came by here and got hex signs from about 20,000 people.
01:10:03We'll have to see what sort of effect that has
01:10:05on the rest of his driving.
01:10:06Moving into second place now, Nelson Piquet in the Brava.
01:10:10We're watching him right now negotiate the 3.6 mile course
01:10:14here at Monza.
01:10:15Piquet in second.
01:10:17Ayrton Senna is going to be third now,
01:10:20and Senna is the second car behind Piquet.
01:10:25Alain Prost once again back into the lead.
01:10:29I was going to say, just as K.K. came in for the pit stop,
01:10:32I think we'll be remiss if we did not mention the fact
01:10:35that Formula 1 racing is a little poorer this weekend
01:10:38because of the untimely death last weekend of Stefan Velov.
01:10:43Velov killed in a world endurance race at Spa.
01:10:46He, of course, a regular Formula 1 competitor.
01:10:49More than terrible.
01:10:52And our thoughts and sympathies are with the family
01:10:59of Stefan Velov here this weekend.
01:11:03Stefan Velov will be greatly missed, that's for sure.
01:11:05He was a tremendous competitor and a fine young gentleman.
01:11:08Velov and I have known for the last six years.
01:11:11Stefan Velov certainly will be greatly missed,
01:11:14not only here at Monza,
01:11:16but for the next remainder of this season and seasons to come.
01:11:20We might also mention the ZAX Speed Team is not here this weekend
01:11:23in charge of an entry-contact race.
01:11:26Their driver is Jonathan Palmer.
01:11:28We'll be back with more live coverage
01:11:30of the Italian Grand Prix from Monza.
01:11:41We are back at Monza,
01:11:43and a sad situation for the Italian race fans.
01:11:47Michele Alboreto has come into the pit area
01:11:51and is out of the race.
01:11:53He was running at 5th spot in the number 27 Ferrari.
01:11:58However, the car has decisively stopped running on him.
01:12:02He slowly came into the pit area,
01:12:05and Alboreto is now out.
01:12:09And while it continues to be a rather poor day for the Ferrari team,
01:12:13the Brabham cars are looking very good.
01:12:16They are running 2nd and 4th at this time.
01:12:18Piquet is in 2nd and, sure, in 4th spot.
01:12:21The McLaren of Alain Frosch is the leader.
01:12:25And between Frosch and Senna,
01:12:29I should say after Piquet,
01:12:31the Lotus of Ayrton Senna running in 3rd spot.
01:12:35At the moment, the only hint of joy the Italians have left
01:12:40is Elio De Angelis with the John Flair special black and gold Lotus.
01:12:45We certainly hope to see an Italian on the winner's roster,
01:12:49and that would have to be one of the first three cars
01:12:52to finish the 56th Grand Prix of Italy here.
01:12:55But at the moment, the only bright hope for the Italian crowd
01:12:59is Elio De Angelis sitting in 6th.
01:13:01So it doesn't look like he, the Italians, are going to leave here
01:13:04with a great thrill of satisfaction
01:13:08for what they've been looking forward to all year long.
01:13:14There is the leader, Alain Frosch.
01:13:18There are only four cars on the lead lap at this time,
01:13:21Frosch, Piquet, Senna, and Schur.
01:13:24We mentioned that the Zakspeed team is not here this weekend
01:13:27and that Jonathan Palmer was injured at the spa last weekend.
01:13:30We understand that Christian Danner,
01:13:34who is a Formula 3000 regular competitor,
01:13:39will be driving the Zakspeed car next weekend at spa.
01:13:43Now, Bob, you can see now that Frosch has certainly physically
01:13:47flown down on the track. There's no mechanical problem,
01:13:50but he's just beginning to ease off a little bit.
01:13:52He knows that there's only a few laps left.
01:13:55He does not want to have any mechanical or driver failures
01:13:59at this particular point. He does not want to push himself
01:14:02or the car to a point of risking a comfortable lead.
01:14:07And those all-important nine points,
01:14:10as Pitts has told us, is out of the race.
01:14:13This would give him a very good lead into the World Championship,
01:14:18which is the first priority.
01:14:20I'm sure the McLaren pits are putting up an easy for him,
01:14:23letting him know how the competition is behind.
01:14:26But still, right now, Frosch has to be considering
01:14:31those nine points and finishing this race as a winner.
01:14:35There goes the second Williams, moving very slowly.
01:14:39Nigel Mansell.
01:14:41The smoke coming out of that Honda-powered car also.
01:14:45The Honda V6 turbocharged engine,
01:14:48certainly one of the most successful in qualifying,
01:14:50but has not been that reliable in the last several Grand Prix.
01:14:55Big hopes for Nigel as we went into this race,
01:14:58because he had qualified up front.
01:15:01As a matter of fact, he started this race in third position.
01:15:04However, by the second lap, and there he is in the pit area.
01:15:08By the second lap, it was very obvious that Mansell's engine
01:15:14was not performing correctly.
01:15:17And he came in, he seemed to get the problem corrected,
01:15:20but he is in the pit area once again.
01:15:22We are on the final lap of this race.
01:15:27And it looks like that Alain Frosch is going to walk off
01:15:31with another victory this year.
01:15:34This will be his fifth win of the year,
01:15:36should he take the checkered flag.
01:15:38And will, as you indicated, John,
01:15:41give him a substantial lead in the battle for the World Championship.
01:15:45He came in with 56 points and another nine,
01:15:50which gives him 65.
01:15:52And Michele Alvareto will fail to score any points here this afternoon
01:15:55because he is out of the race.
01:15:58Of course, there you saw Frosch just letting the Ferrari by very comfortably.
01:16:05The Chinese fans still cheering the Ferraris along,
01:16:08even though they are a lap down on this last lap.
01:16:11Raphael Hansen will bring his car to the finish line
01:16:19and actually unlap himself in the process,
01:16:21so there's a little bit of joy there, but not much.
01:16:24Alain Frosch coming into the final chicane.
01:16:30And even now the Liget behind is easily catching him.
01:16:33He is back way off, Bob,
01:16:35and we're going to see a checkered flag here for Alain Frosch.
01:16:39Frosch moves out of the final corner, comes on to the main straightaway.
01:16:43The checkered flag awaits him.
01:16:45There it is. Alain Frosch has won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
01:16:51Frosch takes the checkered flag and wins here this afternoon.
01:16:56Second place at this point is Delphine Piquet
01:17:00as Frosch slows down and salutes the thousands of race fans
01:17:05gathered all around this 3.6 mile course.
01:17:07There is Nelson Piquet in the Brabham.
01:17:10And he now is headed for Parabolica, the final corner on this racetrack.
01:17:17No lotus and dew there again.
01:17:20Nelson Piquet cruising to number seven.
01:17:25Raul Parabolica on the most challenging course in Formula One.
01:17:31And here he comes out of the corner.
01:17:34Nelson Piquet in the Brabham.
01:17:36Takes the checkered flag and finishes in second position.
01:17:39The Italian fans cheer him as he takes the checkered.
01:17:44And Ayrton Senna finishes in third position,
01:17:49but it was a close battle as he and Mark Schur
01:17:52came down nose to tail.
01:17:55Stefan Johansson on the last lap has climbed out of his car,
01:17:58unable to finish the race.
01:18:04And Johansson would like a ride to the pit area.
01:18:09L.A.O. DeAngelis giving Stefan a ride back.
01:18:11He stopped way out on the circuit.
01:18:14Interesting to see if that changes his position.
01:18:17He was fifth, L.A.O. sixth.
01:18:22But I believe those positions will stand as the race was over
01:18:25when the checkered flag came down for pros.
01:18:28DeAngelis finished in sixth, however, was a lap down
01:18:31when the checkered came out.
01:18:33And Stefan unlapped himself just on the final lap.
01:18:38So here comes Brose now into the pit area.
01:18:43Now, Bob, a scene that normally takes place here
01:18:45is the huge fans rushing onto the track.
01:18:49This year they have upped the security guards here maybe 100%.
01:18:54I don't see any spectators on the track.
01:18:56This is the first time in seven Monza Grands Prix
01:18:59that I've been here, and there has not been a flood of spectators
01:19:02immediately after the checkered flag.
01:19:04So let's see if the security holds.
01:19:06Well, the fans were rather reserved here today.
01:19:08They didn't have a whole lot to cheer about
01:19:10as far as the Ferraris are concerned.
01:19:12Michele Alvarado falling out late in the race,
01:19:15and Stefan Johansson having a problem on the last lap.
01:19:17However, he is shown as the fifth-place finisher.
01:19:20We'll be back with our closing comments from Monza after this message.
01:19:33Back at Monza, the Italian Grand Prix.
01:19:35The winner of the race is Alain Brose.
01:19:38And now the fans begin to come onto the racetrack
01:19:42as Brose has made his way to victory circle here.
01:19:47Finishing second was Nelson Piquet.
01:19:49Third was Senna. Fourth was Marc Schur.
01:19:51Fifth, Johansson, and sixth was Elio de Angelis.
01:19:55Then following de Angelis was Patrick Tambay, seventh.
01:19:58Martin Brundle was eighth.
01:20:00Brose in ninth. Philippe Streif was tenth, two laps down.
01:20:04Eleventh was Nigel Mansell, four laps down.
01:20:07Then Teo Fabi, also four laps down.
01:20:10And Michele Alvarado finishes in sixth lap down in 13th position.
01:20:18There you see the slow motion excellence of Alain Brose.
01:20:23Waving victory.
01:20:25And not too many Italians giving a friendly sign back to him, I'm sure.
01:20:29Not the most popular driver in Italy.
01:20:32Certainly, especially when he's in contention for the World Championship
01:20:36with Michele Alvarado of Ferrari.
01:20:38Well, it was a tremendous race as K.K. Rosberg led the first few laps
01:20:43then came in for a tire change.
01:20:45Brose took the lead.
01:20:47Rosberg battled back to retake the lead from Brose,
01:20:51but then Rosberg's car gave out.
01:20:54Brose went into the lead once again and held it.
01:20:58Alain has had a tremendous year so far.
01:21:01His worst finish in a Grand Prix has been third.
01:21:05Now, he has not finished two races because of crashes,
01:21:09but those that he has finished, his worst is the third position.
01:21:14And in the last four races, at Silverstone, he was first.
01:21:20At the German Grand Prix, he was second.
01:21:22He was the winner in Austria.
01:21:24He was second at the Dutch Grand Prix two weeks ago
01:21:27and now comes home a winner here in Monza this week.
01:21:30So it appears that perhaps Alain Brose is on his way to his World Championship.
01:21:36There were the final standings, and now we update the points for you.
01:21:40Alain Brose gets nine points for his win here today and now has 65.
01:21:46Alvarado does not gain a point and remains with 53.
01:21:51In third place in the points standings, Elio de Angelis,
01:21:54who did gain some points here this weekend, and is now 31.
01:21:58Ayrton Senna is fourth in points with 23,
01:22:02and Stefan Johansson is fifth in the points with 21.
01:22:07Sixth would be Nelson Piquet, who finished second here today.
01:22:11He has 19.
01:22:13Then K.K. Rosberg and Niki Lauda, Lauda with 14.
01:22:19Brose beginning to pull away in the battle for the World Championship.
01:22:23So we'll have more from Monza and the Italian Grand Prix,
01:22:27which has been won today by Alain Brose.
01:22:39Bob Jenkins and John Bisignano back at the Italian Grand Prix,
01:22:42and the fans have poured onto the racecourse,
01:22:45and there are the top three finishers.
01:22:48Alain Brose in the middle.
01:22:50On the left side of the screen is Nelson Piquet,
01:22:53and on the right is Ayrton Senna.
01:22:56Round number 12 of the Grand Prix season has been completed,
01:23:00and once again, Brose now has a 12-point lead
01:23:05in the battle for the World Championship over Michele Alvarado.
01:23:09Next race, next Sunday, Spa.
01:23:12John, what kind of a track is it? What can we expect?
01:23:15Well, it's a very fast track.
01:23:17The track conditions have been improved.
01:23:19That was proven by the endurance race that went on there last week
01:23:22with absolutely no troubles whatsoever.
01:23:25It's a place where Brose has done very well,
01:23:29although his qualifying for this particular race earlier this year,
01:23:34he actually did quite poorly.
01:23:36But it's a track that he likes.
01:23:38It's suited for McLarens, up and down hills.
01:23:40It's a fuel problem, fuel-sensitive circuit.
01:23:43It's going to be very close to the engine management systems on the tags.
01:23:47Howard McLarens will be working flat out there to keep things in order
01:23:51as Alain Brose throws a hat into the crowd.
01:23:54Huge Italian crown.
01:23:56But still, there's four races to go, 12 points,
01:24:00but you cannot believe the enthusiasm even being shown
01:24:04on a Ferrari-less winner's stand
01:24:08as the wreath of victory goes around
01:24:12a well-deserved victory by Alain Brose.
01:24:14As I was saying, four races to go.
01:24:16It's still only one championship, Bob.
01:24:18Well, the Italian fans now are cheering the top three finishers,
01:24:23and they are still waving their Ferrari flag.
01:24:26Enthusiasm even to the very end here at the Italian Grand Prix.
01:24:30And then thousands of race fans are still pouring into this area
01:24:34here in front of us, here in front of the main grandstand,
01:24:36beneath the winner's podium.
01:24:39Well, it certainly had a great feeling.
01:24:41It has been a discouraging afternoon for these Italian fans,
01:24:46but they're going to go up there and cheer the winner, Alain Brose.
01:24:49He certainly deserves the wreath going into the crowd.
01:24:53A lot of good memorabilia being tossed off the winner's podium.
01:24:58A great hand going up for Nelson Piquet.
01:25:01Of course, they think that he's a bit of a migrated Italian to Brazil.
01:25:07Pirelli tires doing very well with the second-place finish here via Piquet's gravel.
01:25:14Pirelli being an Italian company.
01:25:17And, Bob, this is what I was telling you about.
01:25:19Looking down on this thing, this does not happen at Indianapolis.
01:25:22No, it really doesn't.
01:25:23It's something that I have never seen at motorsports.
01:25:25And I'll tell you, my visit here to Monza has been one of the memorable moments
01:25:29of my racing career because I'm telling my age here,
01:25:33but I can remember very clearly when the Indianapolis cars came here to Monza
01:25:37to run the high banks back in the 50s with Jim Rasmussen, Jimmy Bryan,
01:25:42and Tony Fentonhausen driving the Novi.
01:25:45And to think that I was here to this very racetrack to see where they competed on
01:25:49was a big thrill.
01:25:51And the enthusiasm that I'm sure was there in the 1950s has not lessened any here in the 1980s.
01:25:58Well, the Italian Grand Prix has been brought to you by Dodge.
01:26:01And a totally new Dodge Lancer.
