00:00:00All five lights are on and we're green in Paris. It's a good start from Degrassi.
00:00:05Terrible start from Sam Bird.
00:00:06A fantastic start as well from Nico Frost. He dives up the inside and here comes Degrassi surely to take the lead of the race into the right-hander of Turn 1 and all Verne just about getting it stopped.
00:00:16Will everybody get it safely through? There's a bit of damage for Simone de Silvestro. She got a bad start and then bodywork in the middle of the track.
00:00:22But Lucas Degrassi takes the lead of the Vise Paris E3 at the first corner. Verne is up into second place. Bird drops from first down to third, Daria.
00:00:33Nico Frost up to fourth there. That was a little more tame actually than I was even thinking it was going to be.
00:00:37Everybody got it stopped there. You can see Mike Conway's trying to make moves already from the back of the pack.
00:00:42You can see Nelson Piquet there and a little bit of bother coming out of Turn 7. Turn 8 here.
00:00:46This is a passing opportunity at the end of this long straight. But at this point Lucas Degrassi checking out.
00:00:51So it's Degrassi who leads. It's Verne in second. Verne in third. Crossed in fourth. Sarazan in fifth.
00:00:57We're on board with Loic Duval as he battles with his Dragon teammate Jerome D'Ambrosio as they come around.
00:01:03That is the end of the first lap. This timing being there, that's where the laps start and finish.
00:01:07Now teammates there are obviously playing nice and the last thing you want to do is take out your teammates.
00:01:12So you'll probably give them slightly more respect than you would with anybody else out there.
00:01:16So Degrassi it is who is leading. Verne in second. You can see the usable energy remaining on the left-hand side.
00:01:21And Sam Bird now is trying to get past Jean-Erik Verne already.
00:01:25If you're managing this DS Virgin team, are you going to let them fight it out?
00:01:29But you've got to really because...
00:01:30Oh, there's a late move from Mark up the inside of Mark Conway.
00:01:34You wouldn't know it's his first day in the car.
00:01:36Very, very nice there.
00:01:37If I'm Sam Bird, you've got to get past your teammate because he apparently is holding them up a bit.
00:01:41Lucas Degrassi checking out just a bit.
00:01:43So he is a little bit quicker in pace obviously right now.
00:01:48You've got to let him fight it out.
00:01:50Buemi has got up to seventh place.
00:01:51A bad start for Robin Franks who's gone from sixth down to ninth then on that opening lap.
00:01:56As Degrassi now turns through the right-hander of eight.
00:01:58Then it's nose to tail between the two DS Virgin cards.
00:02:02The two Dragon cards running right together as well as they bounce through the right-hander at turn ten at Esplanade.
00:02:07And then head out into the Place d'Envalide once more.
00:02:11Simone de Silvestro is going to be the next person.
00:02:13Oh, a little bit wide there from the Mahindra of Senna.
00:02:16Just about got away with it.
00:02:18And Lucas Degrassi unsurprisingly setting the fastest lap.
00:02:20He's got a two-second advantage now over Jean-Erik Verne in second place.
00:02:25As the two Virgin cards go nose to tail down towards turn one.
00:02:28And this is going to really frustrate Sam Bird in these early stages.
00:02:32Yeah, absolutely.
00:02:32And what Degrassi is doing, by checking out a little bit here, he can then dictate the pace of it.
00:02:36And for Sam Bird, if he can get past Jean-Erik Verne, he's got to use energy to get up the road, to get close and close that gap.
00:02:43So Sam Bird is going to be very anxious to make a move here through turn six into the hairpin at seven here.
00:02:50He's got to try and make this move out of breaking into turn eight.
00:02:53But again, it is his team-mate.
00:02:54He's got to be a little bit careful.
00:02:56There's the DS Virgin team.
00:02:57There's a lot of pressure on them, not only in the race itself, but massive DS hospitality here.
00:03:03There's a lot of pressure there, home E3, and the home E3 for Jean-Erik Verne.
00:03:07He is not going to want to give this one up easily.
00:03:09Bird made a mistake there.
00:03:10Massive mistake on the brakes.
00:03:11You know, again, just being caught out of it, probably the regen coming in now as the battery level starts to go down.
00:03:16When you lift off, the electric motors regenerate and recharge the battery a bit.
00:03:20And you could see there as Sam Bird lifted off and brake, it caught him out.
00:03:24The rear wheels locked a bit.
00:03:25Did a great job to keep it out of that turn eight wall because the exit wall does come up in a hurry.
00:03:30But that's allowed Jean-Erik Verne to close that gap, to get away a bit.
00:03:33And it's allowed Lucas Degrassi to get away even more.
00:03:35So Degrassi leads Verne second, Verne third.
00:03:38Prost, Sarrazan, Turvey, Buemi, Da Costa, Franks and Piquet the top ten.
00:03:42And then it's Senna, Abbe, D'Ambrosio, Duval, Silvestro, Ma, Conway and Heidefeld as they filter their way through.
00:03:49Now watch Sam Bird off the start.
00:03:51Is it just wheel spin?
00:03:52A bit of wheel spin, but just a bad getaway.
00:03:54A little bit slow.
00:03:55Yeah, but it's certainly wheel spin.
00:03:56Uphill start though, very unusual.
00:03:59And it's an uphill start there.
00:04:01And there was Degrassi already through.
00:04:03By the time they got to turn one, got a little bit close and funky with Verne and Bird.
00:04:07And they managed to get through.
00:04:08You could see Silvestro hit the inside wall.
00:04:10They got squeezed into the wall by Daniel Lap.
00:04:12This was the view on board with Jean-Erik Verne.
00:04:15He seized the opportunity.
00:04:17He's just sizing it up here.
00:04:18He's got nowhere to go though.
00:04:19He's had to lift because nowhere to go.
00:04:22Everybody's a little circumspect.
00:04:23Lock the rear, lock the front.
00:04:25Didn't hit his teammate though.
00:04:27No, just about got away with that one.
00:04:28And that is, whoa, goodness me.
00:04:30That is bold stuff around the outside of two.
00:04:32All right, check that.
00:04:33Yeah, a bit of contact between the teammates there.
00:04:36Yeah, absolutely.
00:04:36Lap 5 of 45.
00:04:38A lot of laps in this race because it's the shortest circuit on the calendar.
00:04:42And there you can see the order and the usable energy remaining.
00:04:44At the moment, Nico Pross is doing a good job.
00:04:46But every time Degrassi comes across the finish line, he is setting a fastest lap of the race.
00:04:51It's very impressive stuff.
00:04:53Silvestro is now right up behind Loic Duval.
00:04:55There's Mike Conway right at the back in 17th.
00:04:57Shocked for Mike Conway in 17th.
00:04:59He had such pace this morning.
00:05:00And just not able to do anything as of yet.
00:05:03And, you know, it was passed by Ma.
00:05:05Which was definitely a surprise.
00:05:07And then you see the Dragon guys not really going anywhere either.
00:05:11We looked at the field early and you say, oh, some guys maybe qualified a little worse than you would expect.
00:05:15But there's no weak cars.
00:05:17There's no people you say, oh, they're going to be an easy target to pass.
00:05:21And Ma, look at him, 77% energy.
00:05:24It's not like he's killing the energy here and he's going to have to pit early.
00:05:27He's doing a heck of a job.
00:05:29Yeah, very impressive stuff then from Ma Tianhua.
00:05:32As going straight on there.
00:05:34One of the Dragon cars into 11.
00:05:35We'll wait and see which one it was.
00:05:38It was Duval.
00:05:39Duval going straight on.
00:05:41And he's got a problem.
00:05:43Yeah, gearbox, it sounds like.
00:05:45So problems for Loic Duval.
00:05:46That could bring out a safety car potentially if that's as far as he can get away off the racing line.
00:05:51And lap 6 of 45.
00:05:52Sounds like the final drive, doesn't it?
00:05:53They can hear the motors spinning, but there's no drive.
00:05:55And there's something flapping about mechanically there.
00:05:58And there is Duval.
00:05:59He is parked up by the wall.
00:06:01And I called the car and tried to block so he can go with the second car for points.
00:06:05Try to pull off like it.
00:06:06Reset the car and we're trying to go.
00:06:07Oh, look at that lunge from Robin Fraince up the inside of Da Costa.
00:06:10Nicely done.
00:06:12Through 6.
00:06:12Took the momentum up the inside.
00:06:14That's 8th place.
00:06:15That was the move we were hoping to see through 6 into 7.
00:06:18Robin Fraince absolutely nailed it there.
00:06:20Fantastic move.
00:06:21So he's now up behind Sebastian Buemi, but Da Costa is not going to like that one little bit
00:06:26as they come now towards the right-hand flick of 10 and then back into the Place d'Envalide.
00:06:30And Stefan Sarazan still running there in 5th place.
00:06:33Duval still parked at the side of the track.
00:06:35It's not that dangerous a position.
00:06:38Let's go on board with him.

00:06:48What a great move there from Robin Fraince.

00:06:51A little bit of contact on the way out, but nothing too crazy.

00:07:10And the cars will all have to slow down and take it steady while they remove Loic Duval's car.
00:07:17And basically this means they all have to do the same set speed.
00:07:22And while they move Duval's car, it saves us having a safety car so that then everybody gets squashed up and the natural order is lost.
00:07:29And that's good news for the likes of Degrassi because he built up a big lead and he doesn't lose it because of someone else.
00:07:35Yeah, definitely a more fair way of doing it because Lucas Degrassi worked very, very hard to get that advantage there.
00:07:41You know, for pure entertainment purposes, maybe not quite as good, but it's slowed everybody down to a speed that's safe for the marshals.
00:07:48And, you know, I'm sure Lucas is quite happy right now.
00:07:52So Loic Duval, our first retirement from the Visa Paris E-Prix as we are on board with Sebastian Buemi.
00:07:58He was just starting...
00:07:59This is race control.
00:07:59Full course yellow will end in 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

00:08:10Now the drivers will floor it and try and resume whatever battles they were involved with previously.
00:08:16Degrassi is the man leading this E-Prix.
00:08:18Buemi's on a run here.
00:08:19Buemi really close to Oliver Turvey.
00:08:21Turvey covers the inside line.
00:08:22We're on board with Buemi who considers selling the dummy.
00:08:25Turvey a little bit bumpy on the brakes but gets it stopped and this is allowing Robin Franks and Antonio Felix da Costa to join the party over 6th place.
00:08:33The turquoise car in front is Turvey for next EV TCR.
00:08:36And there's Ma up the inside of Simone de Silvestro.
00:08:39He's flying up through the order now.
00:08:41He's got past Conway.
00:08:42He's got past De Silvestro.
00:08:43It's his first Formula E race.
00:08:45P14, fantastic.
00:08:46Have you ever seen him through 6th?
00:08:47Is he going to move into 7th?
00:08:49Nope.

00:08:52Touched right up now.
00:08:53Behind the rear wing of Turvey.
00:08:54Turvey is having to defend for all his worth.
00:08:56Looks to the inside.

00:08:58That was a late move by Turvey there.
00:09:00That was a bit much.
00:09:02On the brakes into 8th.
00:09:03And this is really costing Buemi time in his fight to close in to the guys in front of him.
00:09:08I think at this point Buemi's in, I feel you'd be right to just give him a little rub, give him a little hit in the nose with the nose just to sort of tell him he's there because you're going to defend that hard and that late.
00:09:18You kind of deserve what's going to come to you.
00:09:20But he tries to do that to Robin Fraince in Long Beach and that didn't turn out as bad.
00:09:24Wow, the problem was Robin had already break.
00:09:26Sebastian was still pulling gears.
00:09:28A little misjudgment there.
00:09:30Lap 9 of 45.
00:09:32And here comes Antonio Felix de Costa up the inside of Fraince.
00:09:34How they didn't shunt into each other there, I will never know.
00:09:38That was incredibly close.
00:09:40That was impressive, wasn't it?
00:09:42They just about managed to get away with it.
00:09:43Degrassi leads, Vern 2nd, Bird 3rd, Prost 4th, Saratan 5th, Turvey 6th, Buemi, Fraince, De Costa and Piquet completing the top 10.
00:09:53And only one retirement so far.
00:09:55Loic Duval for the Dragon team.
00:09:57And this, unfortunately for the Frenchman, is a day to forget.
00:10:00And here comes Sebastian Buemi on the outside now down to turn 8.
00:10:04Is he going to be able to pull this off?
00:10:05Oh, he did it.
00:10:06Wow, great stuff from Buemi.
00:10:08Getting his job done on the brakes around the outside.
00:10:15They fling it through the left-hander.
00:10:18And these are our Fan Boost winners then.
00:10:21It's Sebastian Buemi.
00:10:23Loic Duval, and Loic Duval's already out of the race, bless him, and Jean-Erik Verne.
00:10:29So those are the three drivers that have won the Fan Boost.
00:10:32They get to get an extra power boost because of, in their second car, there goes Robin Fraince up the inside of Turvey.
00:10:39So Turvey loses two places in as many laps.
00:10:42And De Costa up the inside, goodness me, had to mount those curves to avoid him.
00:10:46Yeah, that was pretty ill-advised right there.
00:10:48And look, he thought about it, but didn't really think about it too much.
00:10:51I would say, and Piquet's hanging in there too, the back of Da Costa.
00:10:55So not a bad showing here for the next TV TCR, guys.
00:10:58Robin Fraince has just set the fastest first sector of anyone down in seventh place as they make their way out onto the boulevard de la Torre-Mellberg.
00:11:04Once again, lap 10 of 45, Degrassi leading this only by 1.7 seconds at the moment, though.
00:11:11And Sam Bird has just set the fastest lap of the race in third place.
00:11:14What the advantage that certainly the DS Virgin guys had, have been able to build tire temperature quickly, that's probably going away now.
00:11:22And the disadvantage that the Renault E-Dams guys had, it's all leveled out.
00:11:26So you're going to see, I would say, those guys starting to move forward.
00:11:28But obviously Nico Prost, P4 right now, he's going to struggle to get by Sam Bird.
00:11:32But I would expect Wemi to keep moving forward here.
00:11:36So he is now up into sixth place.
00:11:39Sarazan is one and a half seconds up the road.
00:11:43Look at Da Costa, how close he is to the back of Serby.
00:11:46The great thing about these Formula E cars, they're not reliant on aero.
00:11:50So you can get right up behind the car in front and it makes for good racing.
00:11:54You know, we've seen cars running around with rear wings missing and no apparent change in balance of performance.
00:11:58So it's definitely promoted some good racing.
00:12:01And he's looking for that move in a seven.
00:12:02Oh, goodness me.
00:12:04I don't know how Da Costa still has his front wing.
00:12:08Well, he can't see the nose.
00:12:09When he's sitting in that car, he cannot see the nose.
00:12:11You've got to guess and he's guessing pretty well exactly where that is.
00:12:15But Turby defending again.
00:12:17He's driving a very robust race here, isn't he, Turby?
00:12:20Yep, he was racing in Japan a couple of weeks ago in Super GT in a Honda NSX.
00:12:26A bit of a different beast to this Formula E car, but he's adapted back pretty well.
00:12:30Running in eighth place, which would be a very impressive result.
00:12:34Only two points positions so far this season for Oliver Turby and only one for Nelson Piquet.
00:12:39A very different season for next EV TCR compared to last year.
00:12:43But it's Degrassi who is leading this E-Prix.
00:12:451.4 seconds clear of Verne.
00:12:47He's only 8 seconds clear of Verne.
00:12:48And that is again mighty close.
00:12:51Has Turby got to give him more room than this or is this fair?
00:12:54To me, that was a late challenge from Da Costa.
00:12:58That was too late.
00:13:00And he was lucky to get away with that.
00:13:02He was lucky to get it stopped in time.
00:13:04And Turby, I think, in fairness, gave him a little bit of room there.
00:13:06So they're both, again, they're both being fairly aggressive here.
00:13:10But that's great.
00:13:11It's good racing.
00:13:13He's got to get a run, though.
00:13:15It's so difficult to get that run there.
00:13:17And obviously, you've got the direct drive of the next EV TCR car ahead of us here.
00:13:21Every time they shift up a gear, that car ahead pulls away because it is direct drive, one gear.
00:13:27One thing we didn't really think about, and they were explaining the other day,
00:13:30is every time they downshift, go into a corner, they lose some of the regen.
00:13:33And it's not as efficient.
00:13:36We're on board, then, with the somehow still surviving nose cam on board Antonio Felix de Costa.
00:13:43Let's see how we go down into Turn 1.
00:13:46Watch every time he shifts, that car is just edging away a little bit.
00:13:49He's going to have to make a lunge here to make this work.
00:13:51Yeah, not close enough this time through.
00:13:53The man who hasn't got that much pace at the moment is Nico Prost in fourth place.
00:13:58He's three seconds off the back of the leading trio.
00:14:01And he's got Stefan Sarrazan and Sebastian Buemi right behind him.
00:14:05So the three-car train for fourth place could get a bit interesting before too long.
00:14:09You see it there, look in the back of the screen.
00:14:11So there's Degrassi leading, then it's the two DS cars of Verne and Bird, and then here is Nico Prost with Stefan Sarrazan not too far behind him, and Sebastian Buemi there, right up behind him.
00:14:22As it stands, Degrassi would extend his championship lead over Buemi.
00:14:26Those two really are the championship protagonists at the moment.
00:14:29But Sam Bird is very quickly bringing himself into the action, especially if he can get a podium finish here.
00:14:35And wouldn't the Abt-Chaffler Audi guys love to get a win here in the back garden of Renault and the DS guys?
00:14:41They would absolutely just rub their hands on that one.
00:14:45But obviously they can have the favour of a return when we go to Berlin in a bit of a month's time.
00:14:49A little bit slow through that.
00:14:5114 for Antonio Felix da Costa in that white Aguri car with the golf livery.
00:14:58From behind him it's Piquet, behind him it's Senna, Abt, D'Ambrosio, Ma, Conway de Silvestro, and Heidfeld still in 17th place.
00:15:06I'm surprised he hasn't been able to, and the same is true of Conway really, surprised they haven't been able to climb up the order a little bit
00:15:11because they've had good pace, but it shows you how, as you were saying earlier, evenly matched these cars are despite the increase in technology.
00:15:20Absolutely. I mean, look at the grid. Look from 17th forward. Where is the weak link now?
00:15:24You know, we'd say, oh, Ma, it's his first race and everything. We don't know too much about his pedigree.
00:15:28Well, he's blown past a couple of proper heavy hitters on his way forward there.
00:15:32And I can't tell you how impressive I think that is because of how difficult these cars are to drive and to handle.
00:15:38These other drivers have got massive experience in Formula E cars.
00:15:43Da Costa getting closer again to Turvey.
00:15:46Trying to set up that pass. You've got to set it up a couple of corners before. Build that momentum.
00:15:50Not close enough through the last corner there.
00:15:52In the first six E-Prix, Antonio Felix Da Costa has retired four times. He's finishing the points the other two.
00:15:58Sebastian Buemi has just said a very fast first sector.
00:16:01So he is just four tenths from the back of Stefan Sarazan.
00:16:06So that squabble over fifth position is about to kick off.
00:16:09Bruno Senna is now on the back of Nelson Piquet Jr.
00:16:11This is all the battle fundamentally over 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th coming through the Place Vauban.
00:16:19If you're Jean-Erik Verne, you want to try and get as close as you can to the grassy.
00:16:25When you get out in the second car, use that fan boost.
00:16:27You know, if you can use that fan boost out of turn 14 into one, you've got a good chance of making a move there.
00:16:32And what's happening here, Senna cruising past Nelson Piquet and Daniel Aps going through as well.
00:16:37Has Nelson Piquet run into trouble?
00:16:39There's a problem there, Jack, definitely.
00:16:41You know, he's worked so hard to get that car up to the front half of the grid.
00:16:43And it's just, it's all going to win.
00:16:46Daniel Aps has gone past too.
00:16:48He's got a reasonable amount of usable energy remaining, so it's not as though he's having to slow.
00:16:51Here we go on board with Antonio Felix da Costa.
00:16:54There he goes, up the inside of Turvey, down into turn one and he gets through.
00:16:57So da Costa is passed.
00:17:00Perhaps.
00:17:02But that is da Costa up into 8th place then.
00:17:05Turvey down to 9th.
00:17:07And Buemi's past Sarazan as well.
00:17:09So Buemi is up into 5th position.
00:17:11Sarazan drops down to 6th.
00:17:13And now it's Nico Prost in 4th.
00:17:15Buemi in 5th, the two teammates.
00:17:17Buemi straight away is personal best through sector one.
00:17:20So he's now hunting down Nico Prost.
00:17:25How much French resistance are we going to see from Nico?
00:17:29Here's the move.
00:17:31Late on the breaks, into turn one.
00:17:33And there we go.
00:17:34What a move.
00:17:35Nice textbook stuff there.
00:17:37How much resistance?
00:17:38I don't know.
00:17:39You know, it depends on the briefing they receive.
00:17:41But there's Nelson Piquet just really struggling there.
00:17:44I don't know what's happened to that.
00:17:47No.
00:17:48Really, really bad news for the next EV team, unfortunately.
00:17:51Because Piquet was doing a good job.
00:17:54I was just looking to see if there's any damage to the chassis there.
00:17:56But you can't see anything.
00:17:58There's the two DS Virgin cars.
00:17:59Second and third place for them.
00:18:01Verne ahead of Bird.
00:18:02Degrassi, though, is the man leading this E-Prix.
00:18:052.4 seconds now.
00:18:07Yeah.
00:18:07He's managed to build that up.
00:18:09It was 1.7 after the full course yellow.
00:18:12But Sarazan, Buemi, and Da Costa are all pushing.
00:18:14Now they've got a little bit of clear air.
00:18:16And Buemi is closing in on the back of Prost in front of him.
00:18:20To me, this is when Degrassi is at his most dangerous.
00:18:23When you allow him to build that momentum, get in a rhythm.
00:18:26And he's now leading races.
00:18:28He's won a lot of races now.
00:18:29He knows how to get it done.
00:18:31And he can just be like metronome.
00:18:33Like he's just going to go out there and knock out laps.
00:18:35And he tends, I hate, I'm not going to give him the curse,
00:18:38but he tends not to make mistakes.
00:18:4127% of usable energy remaining.
00:18:44So we've still got quite a few laps to go before the pit window opens.
00:18:49Or before the pit window sort of begins.
00:18:51It's not an official pit window opening and closing.
00:18:55But there is a sort of period where we're expecting everyone to come in.
00:18:58Look how close it is now in between the DS Virgin guys for second and third.
00:19:02Gained three tenths that last lap that Sam Bird on the front of him.
00:19:06And now we've got the two Renault E-Dams cars in lockstep behind as well.
00:19:09So we've got some inter-team battles going on here.
00:19:11Daniel Apte is doing a good job, as you can see on the left there,
00:19:14with energy conservation.
00:19:15He's got quite a bit more than anyone else at the moment.
00:19:18So he might be able to squeeze another lap out of it.
00:19:21This is again the battle over 10th and 11th.
00:19:23But Lucas de Grassi is the man leading.
00:19:26And the battle really, as Da Costa sets the fastest lap of the race.
00:19:29He's five seconds back from the fourth, fifth place battle.
00:19:33But Da Costa has just set the fastest lap of the race.
00:19:36Here we go then.
00:19:36Prost, Puemi, the two Renault cars, Sarazan for Venturi and Frantz for Andretti.
00:19:42Frantz looks like he's catching Sarazan a bit, isn't he?
00:19:44Yeah.
00:19:46He drives the wheels off that thing.
00:19:47And there we see the Andretti garage there.
00:19:50Dave Seifert with the hat on.
00:19:52He must be feeling the cold.
00:19:53Look at that, the oversteer that he's just catching all the time.
00:19:57He's on a pretty spectacular display.
00:19:59Turn 14, sorry, turn 14 onto the front straight there, onto the main street.
00:20:03Mike Conway has got past Marr now and it's back up into 13th place.

00:30:49So that may, again, be getting used to doing the driver changes that he's never,
00:30:54or the car changes, let's just say, that he's never had to do before.

00:32:33and actually attack the entry to the corner harder.
00:32:36People that are good at it can gain a massive advantage
00:32:39and it is not an easy thing to do.
00:32:41So Sam's pretty good at it.
00:32:42And Sam looks like he's running a bit less rear wing
00:32:44than his teammate in front, I would say.
00:32:46That's interesting.
00:32:47It does actually look a little bit slimmer, doesn't it?
