00:00:06Then it's all apt on row number two with Lucas Di Grassi starting third,

00:00:10Daniel Apt in fourth, championship leader starting fifth.

00:00:13All five lights are on and we go green in Mexico City.

00:00:17And let's see who gets the best start on the run down towards turn number one.

00:00:20Sam Bird looking at the inside of Sarrazan.

00:00:22D'Ambrosio's got the lead covered and Apt and Di Grassi are so close to each other.

00:00:26We're going almost three wide at the back.

00:00:28Will everyone make it through? Only a few drivers cutting the corner.

00:00:31That was super, super clean. Conway almost pushed into the wall.

00:00:35But D'Ambrosio is the man who from pole position has managed to hold the lead of the race.

00:00:39But Prost is all over the back of him. Di Grassi up into third place.

00:00:42And look at that, around the outside a bit of contact there as Sebastian Buemi tries to go around the outside.

00:00:47A bit of a traffic jam coming up further back.

00:00:50Everyone though seems to have emerged reasonably unscathed.

00:00:53Scott Speed, perfect start for D'Ambrosio and a pretty safe opening lap as well as they come into the stadium for the first time.

00:01:00Very respectful from everyone through the first corner.

00:01:02They all know the deal. They've got to be safe right now.

00:01:04There's a long race, 43 laps. A lot's going to happen.

00:01:08Now let's just see, now they can settle in.

00:01:10The first five laps here are important because you're either going to use way too much energy or not enough.

00:01:14And after that, you'll get into your groove and it'll all start shaking out.

00:01:18Nico Prost makes a small mistake coming through the final chicane as they come out to complete lap one.

00:01:23Will that put him under pressure from this man, Lucas Di Grassi, who's running in third position.

00:01:27Down the start finish straight into turn one again.

00:01:30But Prost seems to have it covered.

00:01:31He went in a little too hot into that final chicane as they bounce through turn numbers one and two.

00:01:37And then out through turn three, the long right-hander that is part of the oval circuit that they use here for Mexican NASCAR championships.

00:01:44Robin Fraintz has got in front of his teammate, Simone de Silvestro.

00:01:47And de Silvestro is now under attack from Antonio Felix da Costa.

00:01:50But the biggest pressure, I think, is on Nico Prost at the moment.

00:01:54Di Grassi is looking racy.

00:01:55Yeah, and that's just giving Jerome a little bit of free space right now, letting him have some clean running.

00:02:00But these guys know in these first five laps, if you're going to make a move, it's going to be now.

00:02:04Yeah, absolutely.

00:02:04So who they come into this triple left-hander in the stadium section, the Foro de Sol, the Forum of the Sun,

00:02:12which is home to the Mexican City, the Mexico City Red Devils, the most successful baseball team in this country.

00:02:18And look at that.

00:02:19D'Ambrosio has got a bit of an advantage and at the moment 1% more usable energy.

00:02:23That's what that percentage means on the left-hand side of the screen as we look at it.

00:02:26So things have gone pretty well for D'Ambrosio on this opening lap or two.

00:02:31They come out to complete lap number two.

00:02:34And really, you've got to break away from really the top six, I think.

00:02:37Loic Duval is at the back of this break.

00:02:39And Jean-Erik Verne has lost a lot of positions on that last lap.

00:02:42He came through six and he's now right at the back.

00:02:44So a problem for Jean-Erik Verne.

00:02:46His teammate Sam Bird has just set the fastest lap of the race.

00:02:48Here is Verne right at the back now.

00:02:50So I don't know what happened to him.

00:02:51Oh, he's going straight on there.

00:02:52That wasn't in the plan, was it?

00:02:55No, that wasn't intentional.

00:02:58So D'Ambrosio leads.

00:02:59Six-tenths of a second clear at the moment.

00:03:01And we've got a bit of a hide-felt train as they come down towards turn number seven, lap three of 43.

00:03:08So let's just settle down because there's a long way to go.

00:03:11And Formula usually kicks into life sooner rather than later.

00:03:14But at the moment, it's Linus Stern up at the front.

00:03:16Sam Bird looking really racy behind Stefan Sarazan as they swing through the left-hander at turn 10.

00:03:22Oh, there's a bit of debris there on the runoff at turn 12, on the exit of turn 12.

00:03:26That's why we've got to wave the yellow flag there.

00:03:29But there you can see the order on the left-hand side.

00:03:31No real changes.

00:03:32Oh, straight on goes Daniel Apt.

00:03:34He's going to get back on in front of Buemi.

00:03:37Yes, he will.

00:03:38So we'll see what happens there.

00:03:40Buemi might be close enough on the run down towards turn one.

00:03:43He's going to look to the inside line.

00:03:45But Daniel Apt will try and cover.

00:03:46Buemi looks to the outside line and goes through around the outside.

00:03:49Great move from Sebastian Buemi.

00:03:51Nothing Daniel Apt could do.

00:03:53And you'd have thought Apt would have been able to hold that with the inside line.

00:03:56Yeah, well, with him going through the chicane in the corner before,

00:03:59I'm not quite sure what Apt, what the proper, let's say, move would have been in that case anyways.

00:04:05He's probably going to end up having to give that position back either way.

00:04:09Yeah, that's true.

00:04:10He was behind him.

00:04:11Sorry, he was in front of Buemi, but definitely gained an advantage by going straight over.

00:04:17Now here we come, the top three again into the stadium.

00:04:21Swinging through the left-handers.

00:04:24Pretty close, that second and third battle.

00:04:26And Daniel Apt, I think, from a team perspective, he will be feeling a little bit like he may have let the team down.

00:04:33Here's the fan boost at the moment.

00:04:34Jean-Erik Verne is in third place.

00:04:36Fourth is Sam Bird.

00:04:38And there's only 2% between them.

00:04:40And voting doesn't finish until seven minutes into the race.

00:04:43So we've probably still got another three or four minutes to go.

00:04:47It's just a long train right now.

00:04:49No one is really able to make a move on many people.

00:04:52I think they're all pretty much settled in.

00:04:54Lap time is just now starting to come down for your top five running in the mid-106s.

00:04:59Okay, so Sebastian Buemi has just set the fastest lap of the race, in fact, to 1 minute 6.4.

00:05:04But it's not that much quicker than D'Ambrosio.

00:05:07Lucas Di Grassi is being told by his team constantly on the radio to adjust his brake bias.

00:05:14So, see whether that makes any difference to his pace.

00:05:18But at the moment, D'Ambrosio, Prost, Di Grassi are the top three.

00:05:22And you can see the battery percentage, the amount of usable energy remaining in that tower on the left-hand side.

00:05:28And once that gets down to 0%, you've got to come into pits and change over.

00:05:33So, yeah, fairly line of stern at the moment.

00:05:35But Di Grassi is the man who's looking most racy.

00:05:38But Nico Prost is not going to make it easy for him at all, is he?

00:05:41Yeah, to me, Di Grassi's got a really fast car.

00:05:46He's certainly being held up right now.

00:05:47The question is how much is he able to save right now for maybe potentially making a move later.

00:06:01Da Costa has got a 10-second pit stop time penalty.

00:06:05He's running now in 14th position anyway.

00:06:09So, not the greatest of runs for Da Costa.

00:06:12He did start in Venice to him in 17th.

00:06:14So, he's made up some places.

00:06:15Nelson Piquet all on his own at the back.

00:06:27And Di Silvestro, I think, is back in front of Robin Freintz.

00:06:38The Da Costa penalty is for working on the car under Park Fermet regulations.

00:06:43Which is an interesting one because they changed the gearbox.

00:06:46So, maybe they changed other things that they weren't allowed to change.

00:06:49Must have been what they were doing on the grid.

00:06:50And, you know, while they're on the grid, they're still having to make changes to that car to get a race ready.

00:06:55So, how much of a difference can you...

00:06:58When you're in a train like this, you were very good at it in Miami, using the energy well.

00:07:03Surely, everybody, though, is, you know, much of a muchness in terms of energy saving.

00:07:08You just have to...

00:07:08If you're the faster car, you just have to make the decision.

00:07:11Do I try to use more energy and make a pass?

00:07:13Or do I just, you know, use my speed and coast more and save the energy so I can potentially make that pass later?

00:07:24Well, Robin Freintz and Floet Duval who have the most usable energy remaining.

00:07:28D'Ambrosio has just set the fastest lap of anyone.

00:07:30Our race leader to try and keep ahead of Nico Prost.

00:09:29Yeah, it's difficult because these chicanes are coming into,

00:09:32you're trying to turn the car as well.

00:09:34So, whenever you're trying to turn the car in

00:09:36and really have a hard braking zone like that,

00:09:38things are tricky.

00:09:39So, a lot of variables involved,

00:09:41and sometimes you snag a wheel, get a little lockup,

00:09:44and then the whole picture changes.

00:09:45Yeah, absolutely.

00:09:46A few of you are asking on hashtag Mexicoipri,

00:09:49what happened with Jean-Erik Verne.

00:09:51We're not entirely sure.

00:09:52He was running up in sixth position

00:09:54and then dropped all the way down to 16th.

00:09:56So, perhaps an error out there on the circuit somewhere.

00:09:59But these are our race leaders

00:10:01as we stick with the helicopter for the whole lap.

00:10:02This is the Peraltada corner,

00:10:04the famous corner,

00:10:05which now has a chicane in the middle.

00:10:07But that was the amount of runoff you used to have back in the day.

00:10:09Absolutely crazy.

00:10:10As they come now out over through the final corner

00:10:13to complete, or to start, lap number 10.

00:10:17And it's Jerome D'Ambrosio who's leading the way.

00:12:25It's good news, of course, for Lucas Di Grassi,

00:12:27who has picked up the fan boost as well

00:12:29to use in the second car,

00:12:30and for Salvador Duran.

00:12:32Unsurprisingly, the Mexican driver

00:12:34winning the fan boost.

00:12:35So that means in their second car,

00:12:36they will get an extra boost of power

00:12:38when they decide to use it.

00:12:40Now Di Grassi is going to be

00:12:43under an awful lot of pressure

00:12:45from the Renault behind.

00:13:11So it's really anybody's race

00:13:13If they can keep a relatively close gap

00:13:15to the cars in front of them,

00:13:17a lot of moves in the pit stop.
