00:04Hi, my name's Jordan and I'm a vicar in the Church of England.

00:11This week we are journeying through the story of the prodigal son, Jesus tells us in Luke 15.

00:18The son has just returned to his father after asking for his inheritance early and squandering it all.

00:24The son expects to be rejected and might possibly be his servant,

00:28but the father embraces him again.

00:32Interestingly, in the story, Jesus tells us the father gives his son three new things to restore him.

00:39A robe, a ring and some shoes.

00:43The father gives him the best robe, which undoubtedly would have been his robe.

00:49The father restores his son's identity by covering the tattered mess with his finery.

00:54The father gives a ring, the family signet ring, which restores the son's authority to order his father's affairs on his behalf.

01:05And finally, he gives him new shoes to replace the ragged ones, which restores the son's dignity.

01:11I'm always blown away by the father's response in this story.

01:15It inspires me not only to forgive people who've hurt me,

01:19but to try and find some way to restore them as safely and as best I can.
