Today’s Daily Reflection explores one of Jesus’s most famous parables, the Prodigal Son from Luke 15, a story about a young man who demands his inheritance, wastes it all, and ends up in deep suffering before realising his mistake. This parable invites us to reflect on how sometimes getting what we want isn’t what we truly need, and how, as Christians, we trust that God always gives us what is truly good for us.WATCH TODAYS DAILY REFELECTION ABOVE

00:04Hi, my name is Jordan and I'm a vicar in the Church of England.
00:11Over this week we are going to be exploring one of Jesus' most famous parables.
00:16A parable is a story which demonstrates a deeper spiritual meaning
00:21and it's found in Luke 15.
00:24It's called the parable of the prodigal son.
00:26The story begins, a man has two sons.
00:30The younger asks for his share of the inheritance,
00:33which is basically like wishing his father was dead.
00:37The father shockingly gives his son the inheritance
00:39and he runs off with it to a distant land.
00:44Whilst there he splurges it all.
00:47A famine breaks out and in desperation he gets a job feeding the pigs.
00:52In the squalor of his suffering he realises his great mistake.
00:58As the famous Coldplay song says,
01:00when you get what you want but not what you need.
01:03Sometimes getting what we want is the worst thing for us,
01:07as is the case in this story.
01:09But other times, when we don't get the job we want
01:12or we miss out on that great opportunity,
01:15it might not be what we need.
01:17As Christians, we believe God always gives us what we need
01:21and offers what is good for us.
