00:00the chibi news daily reflection hi i'm chris tuffnell the vicar of ooterbridge parish church
00:10i've recently finished reading with my son the first book in a series of novels
00:16at the end of book one the story wraps up really nicely but it leaves you knowing there's more to
00:21come and sensing that the story will end well so we bought the next one in the series and we're
00:27eager to see where the story goes that's how all great stories work there's a sense that they're
00:34heading somewhere and you want to see it unfold the bible is a library of 66 books perhaps the most
00:42famous of the four gospels the biographies of jesus life matthew mark luke and john named after their
00:48authors but luke wrote a sequel called acts and at the end of his first book and the beginning of his
00:56second he records the same decisive event that wrapped up one part of the story and kicked off
01:03the next namely the ascension of jesus the 40 days after easter which is where we are today jesus
01:11ascended into heaven commissioning his followers to spread the news about him and promising that one
01:18day he'd return it wrapped up the story of jesus life on earth and it kicked off the story of the
01:25jesus movement that we now call the church one of my favorite films is forrest gump and towards the
01:33end forrest wonders aloud i don't know if we each have a destiny or if we're all just floating around
01:40accidental like on a breeze it's a profound question but christians believe it's one jesus has answered
01:47that however random life sometimes feels history is heading somewhere that it's somewhere good and that
01:57between then and now we're invited to be part of his unfolding story
