00:00Welcome to St Michael's Church in New Haven. My name is Marcus Mack. A little boy longed to spend
00:13time with his father who always came home late after dinner. The boy asked, how much do you make
00:19an hour? Irritated, the father said, if you must know, I make 30 pounds an hour. Can I borrow 15
00:26pounds, please? The little boy requested. The father was furious, assuming an ulterior motive was behind
00:33the question, and told his son to go straight to bed. Realizing how harsh he was, the father
00:41apologized and gave his son 15 pounds. Delighted, the son then took out another 15 pounds and said,
00:48can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early so we can have dinner together.
00:54This story highlights the father hunger we all have and the importance of a present father. Today
01:02is Father's Day. Fathers and fatherly figures are a wonderful gift to children and to society. They
01:09play a distinct and essential role that no one else can fulfill. Whether today is a day of celebrating
01:16or grieving, or grieving, know this. Within the Christian faith, Jesus the Son invites us to know
01:22God not as servants, but as a father, and experience his love by the Spirit. Through Jesus we can become
01:30children of God and know the perfect and parental providence of the Father, who will never abandon us,
01:37and who helps fathers and men become the men we were made to be. If you are doing the best you
01:44can as a father, keep up the great work. If you have struggled to be the father you were made to be,
01:50it is never too late.
