00:00For the third time in around a month, we are talking heatwave.
00:04Temperatures are going to be ticking up through the rest of this week.
00:07Now, there's not a lot of sign of much heat to start the week.
00:11Temperatures generally on the cool side through Monday,
00:14and Tuesday's values are still at or around or even touch below average for most places,
00:19but starting to see a bit of warmth across the south, 24, 25 degrees possible here.
00:24But generally on the cool side because we've got low pressure sitting to the east
00:27and the breeze has been coming down from the north.
00:30These weather fronts providing a few heavy showers overnight.
00:33But we need to take a look at the bigger picture and out to the southwest.
00:36This area of high pressure is slowly going to be creeping towards us.
00:40At the same time, though, we've got these weather fronts creeping towards us
00:44from another area of low pressure, and they'll be edging in during the course of Tuesday,
00:48bringing cloud and a little bit of rain at times into the west of Northern Ireland
00:52and pushing into the Western Isles all set.
00:54Still a few showers, just grazing into Lincolnshire and Norfolk perhaps on Tuesday morning,
00:59but they'll be clearing away for the vast majority.
01:02It is a dry and a sunny day, and the winds will be lighter than they were on Monday for most as well.
01:08These weather fronts, though, aren't going away.
01:10They'll continue to creep their way into parts of Scotland,
01:14maybe sink a little further south.
01:15And that high pressure, yes, it's trying to get in, but it's not fully with us yet.
01:20So, again, on Wednesday, quite a lot of cloud in Western Scotland,
01:23outbreaks of rain and drizzle perhaps along the north coast of Northern Ireland too,
01:27and some thicker cloud across England and Wales,
01:29maybe even the odd shower come the afternoon for the Midlands, perhaps South Wales,
01:33but they'll be very isolated.
01:35For most, again, it's a dry day.
01:38Temperatures starting to pick up.
01:3928 degrees across the southeast,
01:41and many places by Wednesday will be above average.
01:44The main exception will be the west coast of Scotland,
01:47where we stay on the cool side with a fairly brisk wind and some light rain and drizzle.
01:52But even here, the high pressure takes control
01:54and pushes those weather fronts further away to the north by the time we get to Thursday.
01:59So, again, for most places, it's going to be dry,
02:02and certainly under the influence of this high pressure,
02:05that means the air is sinking.
02:06There'll be a lot of fine and sunny weather.
02:08Could just be a little bit of low cloud at times on these eastern coasts,
02:11and still a few showers, particularly early on across the Western Isles
02:15and the highlands of Scotland.
02:17But with that weather front shimmies away,
02:19we should see things turning drier here,
02:21a better chance of seeing more sunshine.
02:24Certainly going to see those temperatures ticking up
02:25under the influence of that high pressure.
02:28Day on day, the sunshine will lift those numbers high on Thursday.
02:32Probably the first day this week, we'll get up to 30 degrees Celsius.
02:35A little bit cooler, perhaps, on some of these coasts,
02:37to the east particularly.
02:38So, if we do see any of that mist and low clouds,
02:41and again, cooler across the northwest of Scotland.
02:45The bigger picture for Friday shows that high pressure completely in control,
02:49just edging a little bit further east.
02:52We may again see a bit more of an easterly breeze,
02:54which could keep things a little cooler around the coasts of East Anglia
02:58and the southeast.
02:59And again, the potential for some mist and low cloud on those eastern coasts.
03:03But for most places, dry and sunny sums it up.
03:07Again, a bit more cloud maybe in the far northwest.
03:09But even here, I'm hopeful for a bit more sunshine.
03:11And temperatures ticking up.
03:12Look at that, open up into 23 degrees Celsius.
03:15So, the warmth is moving north as we go towards the end of this week.
03:19And in the south, those temperatures, again, a little higher on Friday.
03:23Probably get to 32 somewhere.
03:25Certainly 30, 31 in Birmingham and London.
03:28And even the east coast, as that breeze starts to ease,
03:31we'll see those temperatures lifting.
03:32This map shows the temperature compared to the average, the mid-month average.
03:38And a subtle shift further west with the temperatures for this particular heat wave.
03:42So, it's going to be more noticeable, I suspect, for east Wales,
03:45westernmost counties of England, from Dorset, Somerset up to Lancashire,
03:50but also in and around parts of Yorkshire as well.
03:52That's where we'll see the highest anomaly, the biggest difference from the average temperature.
03:57So, a bit of a shift compared to the last one, which was more focused across the east.
04:01Notice the east coast will be much closer to average with a bit of a breeze coming in.
04:07And the warmth is extending further north.
04:09So, by the end of the week, we're well above average across eastern Scotland and northern Ireland too.
04:14Will it last into the weekends?
04:15Well, yes, it should do.
04:17The high pressure is moving to the east.
04:19And these weather fronts are getting closer.
04:21This is a cold front, so behind it, that's where the cooler, fresher air is.
04:27But we're still with the warm, very warm air across the UK on Saturday.
04:31And although it looks as if that cold front could push across, it's not going to.
04:34It's going to get a bit of a ripple on it.
04:36The high pressure maintains its strength.
04:38And that weather front looks like wiggling, staying away to the west for the time being.
04:42And the heat likely to persist through Sunday again across the UK.
04:47Signs that the cooler air may start to push in through the early part of next week,
04:50but a bit of uncertainty about timing on that.
04:53A couple of things to note this week.
04:55UV will be high or very high.
04:57Grass pollen levels will also be high or very high.
05:00Lots of good advice on the Met Office website about how to deal with that if you're a hayfever sufferer.
05:05And if you're out for any length of time in the sunshine, make sure you've got a hat on and the sunscreen.
