Hello there, welcome to your week ahead forecast. Spring has finally arrived, lots of warm sunshine
00:06
and blue skies to go around, but is it going to be sticking around for the first half of
00:09
the Easter holidays? Well, the reason for this settled weather is all thanks to high
00:13
pressure at first sitting to the east, and at times this is going to drag in some clouds
00:18
and cooler temperatures around eastern areas. It eventually sinks its way southwards, that
00:23
area of high pressure, and that allows a change in wind direction, also a few more ice spars
00:27
on the chart as we head towards the end of the week, so it's starting to turn a little
00:31
bit breezier, and then eventually we'll start to see a few more frontal systems allowed
00:35
to push in across the north, and this is just indicating something a bit more unsettled
00:39
as we head towards the end of the week and into the weekend. Now, it's really vital whereabouts
00:44
this high pressure sits through the week as we start off with this area of high pressure
00:47
in the east, that brings in an easterly flow, so more clouds, some sea fog at times across
00:52
eastern areas, and that stops things warming up as much as it does across the rest of the
00:56
country, and then it shifts its way more towards the southwest, and with the winds
01:00
moving in a clockwise direction, that means we'll see a change of our wind direction towards
01:04
more of a west-northwesterly flow, so that's going to break up a lot of that cloud across
01:09
north sea coasts, and that means things are going to brighten up and warm up too. To start
01:14
off with though, on Tuesday, as we see that high pressure build tonight, that means clear
01:18
skies, light winds, so temperatures are going to dip away, so it's going to be a cold start
01:22
as we head into tomorrow, likely to see some frost in places too, and some low cloud, most
01:27
of it should burn back quite nicely through the morning, but lingering on around north
01:30
sea coast, northeastern parts of Scotland for example, seeing quite a grey day perhaps
01:35
as that cloud lingers on around those shorelines, and we'll start to see some fair cloud bubble
01:40
up through the course of the day elsewhere, but for many, lots of dry weather, lots of
01:44
sunshine once again, and feeling warm too, highs of 17, possibly even 18 or 19 degrees
01:49
across the Scottish Highlands, so another pleasant day as we head into tomorrow. Then
01:55
for Wednesday, once again we're still seeing that more easterly component to the wind,
01:59
so once again dragging in a lot of moisture from that north sea, so it's going to be quite
02:02
a grey and murky start all along northeastern coast, perhaps even dragging in as far as
02:07
London, that low cloud, and once again through the morning, it should burn away, but it could
02:12
linger across those coastlines once again, so that means things aren't going to warm
02:15
up quite as well here, and that cloud could stick around, so a cloudy and cooler day across
02:20
eastern coast, and this is shown quite nicely in those temperatures too, but elsewhere further
02:24
west, once again another pleasant day, lots of blue skies, lots of sunshine once again,
02:29
temperatures reaching 17, once again 18, 19, even 20 possible in the west where that sunshine
02:34
sticks around. Now, as we head into Wednesday, obviously with lots of sunshine around, don't
02:40
forget the UV's going to be largely moderate across many areas, 4's and 5's, so borderline
02:45
high, so make sure you remember your sun cream if you're lucky enough to see that sunshine
02:48
across the middle part of the week, and then this is when we start to see that change,
02:52
so that area of high pressure sinking its way southwards, we say goodbye to that more
02:56
easterly component of the wind, and see a bit more of a westerly, so that is still going
03:00
to drag in a little bit of cloud at times across central and southeastern parts, it
03:04
may linger here once again through the course of the morning, but it's into the afternoon
03:08
as things start to warm up, burning back nicely, and allowing that sunshine to break through.
03:13
The only caveat to this is just a weak frontal system starting to move through into the far
03:17
north of Scotland, so clouds sticking around here, perhaps some outbreaks of light rain
03:22
and drizzle, particularly across northern Scotland, Shetland and Orkney as well for
03:26
example, seeing quite a miserable day by the time we reach the afternoon, but northern,
03:30
central, southern areas, another pleasant day, still highs around 18 to 19 Celsius,
03:35
so some warm spring sunshine still sticking around.
03:38
Then for the second half of the week, once again we're introducing that more northwesterly
03:43
flow, some more frontal systems moving into the far north of Scotland, so once again another
03:47
cloudier day here, some outbreaks of rain and drizzle, it should be mostly light, but
03:51
you might get the odd heavier burst at times, and the wind's really picking up here too,
03:56
so slightly breezier day on offer, much different feel compared to the beginning of the week.
04:01
Across northern Ireland, northern parts of England, some more clouds starting to filter
04:04
in, but it should remain largely dry, and that sunshine just turning a bit hazier, but
04:09
the south central areas, sunshine still there, and highs of 20 to 21 Celsius, so those temperatures
04:14
increasing day by day, particularly across the south, so feeling very warm indeed by
04:18
the time we reach Friday.
04:21
Then after that, what we see is those frontal systems eventually moving their way slightly
04:26
further southwards, it's a waving feature, which means it doesn't really penetrate too
04:30
far inland, still rather lingering across the far north by the time we reach Saturday,
04:34
and high pressure still just about clinging on across parts of the south, but it's really
04:38
into Sunday and into next week that we introduce something a bit more changeable, a bit more
04:43
unsettled, and this is shown quite clearly across our stacked probability charts, so
04:47
the red colours showing high pressure dominating, and then we see more of these blue colours
04:51
as we head towards the following weekend, so into Easter weekend, so a good chance that
04:56
we could see something for a time a bit more unsettled, particularly on Sunday, chance
04:59
of showers, perhaps these even turning a bit thundery, wet for a time, but then perhaps
05:04
something a little bit drier, just in time for Easter.
05:06
That's it from me, bye bye.
