This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the weekend 05/06/2025. Following a spring dominated by high pressure, this June has been dominated by low pressure and the weather this weekend will continue in the same vein. Bringing you this weekend’

00:00Hi there.

00:01It's been a showery start to June and this weekend continues the theme, but Saturday

00:06in particular will be a lively day with some very heavy downpours and thunderstorms as

00:12this area of low pressure turns up.

00:14It's being deepened by the jet stream, the jet stream dipping to the south of the UK.

00:18So we've got this upper low pressure in the atmosphere and a surface low pressure and

00:23that surface low pressure as it's spun up by the jet stream will develop more isobars

00:28so it's also going to be windy, particularly on the southern flank of that low for Saturday

00:32across the south and south west of the UK.

00:36And it's towards the south west that we start the day with the heaviest showers and in fact

00:40these big blobs of rain indicating some longer spells of wet weather first thing moving through

00:46South Wales, southern England into the Midlands, could be some thunder and lightning associated

00:52with the showers as well and those brisk winds, risk of gales for exposed south, southern and

00:57south western coast.

00:58So yeah, not an ideal day for outdoor plans and it's a very showery picture as we go into

01:03the afternoon across the rest of the UK as well.

01:05Very few places avoiding the showers in fact on Saturday, one or two spots across north east

01:11England, eastern Scotland and the north of Scotland perhaps staying largely dry but it

01:16is going to be very showery across the board.

01:18Here's the same sequence again but showing the whole of the UK with the cloud included throughout

01:23Saturday.

01:24We start the day with the liveliest weather moving through the south west as was Wales.

01:28That then pushes into the Midlands and the south east later.

01:30The showers more scattered across Scotland and Northern Ireland but even here the chance

01:35of some heavy downpours at times.

01:38And feeling on the cool side particularly where we've got that brisk wind in the south but

01:41all areas will see temperatures a little below average for the time of year.

01:4517-18 in the south, 13-14 further north.

01:49There will be some bright spells in between the showers but really it's a generally cloudy

01:54and showery day.

01:55Now that low pulls away into the North Sea on Sunday but we keep those showers going for

02:00a time in the east as the day begins.

02:03Otherwise we've got an unstable northwesterly airflow so still some showers about on Sunday

02:08but without low pressure directly over us it's certainly going to be less lively compared

02:13with Saturday.

02:14We start the day with cloud, wind and showers across the east coast but then the focus turns

02:18more towards the north west as the afternoon approaches with the heaviest and most frequent

02:23showers pushing into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.

02:27Scattered showers elsewhere but certainly fewer compared with Saturday.

02:30A better chance of dry and bright weather in between.

02:33Some sunshine turning up across the Midlands and the south east in particular.

02:37However, there will again be a lot of cloud in the sky.

02:40Still a cool breeze but it's not going to be as strong as Saturday, temperatures similar

02:45compared with Saturday although perhaps feeling a little less cool where we've got lighter

02:50winds and some more sunshine across some central and eastern parts.

02:56Then whilst it stays cool and changeful at first next week we've got the heat building

03:01across Iberia and as that heat builds it starts to expand through Tuesday, Wednesday and

03:09into Thursday. There's the potential for that heat to approach from the south towards the

03:14middle part of next week. Some uncertainty at the moment on the exact position and shape

03:19of the low pressure to the west which will dictate how far the hot air to the south pushes

03:24north across the UK. And with that low pressure to the west always the chance of some instability

03:31combining with the heat and humidity to allow for perhaps a thundery breakdown to occur by

03:37the end of next week. Nevertheless, there are some signs of drier and more settled weather

03:42by the third week of June with high pressure a little more influential although that's a

03:46long way off and certainly for this weekend it stays very cool, very changeable and watch

03:51out for those strong winds and heavy showers particularly in the south.
