00:00Let's see how he does, for the first time in 2025, Redbud revs her up, gates down.
00:12Hunter Lawrence leads them in, is that RJ Hampshire?
00:16Yes, RJ, been working on the starts on that Rockstar Husky, it pays off, he's second, here comes Jet on his left.
00:22Yeah, good start by RJ there, Jet slides into third place, looks like Tony Corolli is up in the top five,
00:28Justin Cooper, Jorge Prada is up there as well, so what JT said, he must have heard that key to the race.
00:35Oh yeah, he's challenging Lawrence for the third place spot, they're ganging up on Hampshire, no, Hampshire actually goes to the lead.
00:41Do it for Dane City, come on, get some RJ.
00:44Have not seen good starts yet, it's a rookie 450 campaign for the 24, and with a start, he's showing you what he can do.
00:51Yeah, looks like Jorge got around Jet, looks like Jet's going to go back down to inside, but just, man,
00:57what a race, I mean, just what Jorge was able to show last weekend, you can see the difference in his riding style, so, good by him.
01:05Hey, four or five passes amongst this group, at the front, Hunter reclaims the lead from Hampshire, Prado in front of Lawrence,
01:14Jet Lawrence on the outside, looks to get Prado back.
01:16Yeah, it's going to say, Jorge was going to try to have to close that gap off, but Jet had the slingshot around the outside,
01:22you can tell they put a little bit of water down, you can see how aggressive Jet is, because he wants to get that clear racetrack,
01:27not that he's worried about getting around these guys, but it's very hard to see when you're behind them,
01:31especially in these early parts of the race with these rugs.
01:34Plessinger getting in on it from fifth on the number seven, and Prado wants another piece of Jet Lawrence on the inside.
01:40Oh, man, Jorge messed that corner up, I thought he was going to have it, doesn't go for the Rocco's leap,
01:44and just look at how much time he ends up losing.
01:46Yeah, well, Plessinger will be able to get around him, I'll tell you what, a lot of lines on this track,
01:51at least in the first lap, they're all over it.
01:53Yeah, Jorge does get passed by Aaron from that Rocco's leap, he wasn't able to get it,
01:59Aaron ends up getting around him, so small little mistake, love this jump that Jet was doing,
02:04almost loses the front end with that water putting down.
02:06So Hunter Lawrence leads lap one, Hampshire, Jet Lawrence, Plessinger, Prado, Justin Cooper, Tomac,
02:14Corolli, Sexton Anderson, top ten, that is a deep field of talent.
02:19Now what we can hope for right here, Jet just gets hung up behind RJ, not that RJ is going slow,
02:24but you know Jet's starting to see his older brother get away from him a little bit,
02:29and he's going to keep an eye on the guys behind him, Eli Tomac and that number one at Chase Sexton,
02:33make sure those guys don't keep peeping up behind him as well.
02:36First lap led for Hunter, he only had one this year, and now he's got another at Redbugs,
02:42so controlling it from the front.
02:44As for Hampshire, I was talking to him yesterday, press day, said they looked at the data,
02:49and he was creating a bad habit of just revving the bike too much actually off the start,
02:55and he said, I didn't used to do it on the 250, just some kind of nervous habit,
02:59I was giving it gas, but I shouldn't have.
03:01He had to try to fix it, he did today.
03:03Look at this, a pass, Justin Cooper, a rounder, Plessinger.
03:06Yeah, Justin Cooper is moving forward, he was able to get around Jorge,
03:10and now see if his teammate can try to do the same,
03:12but as you say that, Aaron Plessinger just gives them the business a little bit,
03:16I don't think Aaron is trying to do anything, they just, lines came together,
03:18but just showed you how important his track condition is in the beginning part,
03:22these guys are really aggressive, a little bit of that first moto probably juices inside.
03:27Tomac and Prado battling behind Plessinger and Cooper,
03:30I'm just impressed at how racy this track is, they're seeing passes everywhere.
03:35Yeah, yeah, it looks like Eli's going to try to go up his teammate.
03:39Yep.
03:40Chet working on Hampshire,
03:42and Hunter starting to pull away, here comes LaRocco's lead.
03:49Oh man, in the beginning part of his races, LaRocco leads feel so good getting over it,
03:54it feels so bad coming up short as Justin Cooper just did as well in the background.
03:57Well, he's starting to settle in a bit now, instead of the JT.
04:03Well, you see Jet Lawrence here in third, and he's been trying to make some quick passes,
04:06but this track, this track's really sneaky as Jet goes up the inside,
04:10it's really difficult to make a pass, you wouldn't know it by that move that Jet Lawrence just made,
04:14but a lot of the lines here funnel back to the inside,
04:17so you almost have to set your passes up far in advance,
04:19think about what you're going to do, and execute it very similar to what we saw Jet do right there.
04:23Ah, that was beautiful what Jet was able to do at the lap before,
04:26he almost lost the front end, trying to hit the inside,
04:29and most of those guys, if they did jump in, they do cut back,
04:33Jet just jumped out, went straight through to avoid the front end,
04:36and cut RJ up, smart move by the 18.
04:39At one point, I thought the 18 might have been going down in those rollers,
04:43that bike was swapping side to side, and 50 feet later, he's made a pass,
04:47as we watch the Yamaha's battle, Tomac vs. Cooper,
04:51and a reminder, you can keep up with that team,
04:54check out the At Yamaha Motor USA YouTube channel for Beyond the Gate,
04:58that's their YouTube series,
05:00and check out the Hondas up front right now,
05:01because Jet bringing the heat to Hunter.
05:04Yeah, well, the last two, the last two motos,
05:07well, there are three motos in a row now,
05:08you can see how aggressive Jet has been,
05:11and it's normally not like him, he kind of lets things settle in,
05:14but I think he senses that the race can go a lot of different ways,
05:18and if he's able to get out front, all these guys know he's in shape,
05:20and it is hard to run down to 18 out front,
05:23so I think him being very aggressive, as Aaron's doing the same thing,
05:27but him being very aggressive, getting in the lead early,
05:29I think it changes the whole landscape of how these other guys are able to attack it,
05:32and you can put a lot away.
05:33James, I'm looking at the top sort of like eight here,
05:38and I've heard from so many of these riders and teams,
05:41obviously how important the start is,
05:43but how important those opening laps are,
05:44and how challenging it is to be aggressive,
05:47and ride with that intensity that you've talked about,
05:49when you're not out front,
05:51like we see normally Jet Lawrence doing,
05:53and now he's having to be in that same position and battle through.
05:56Is that just the depth of field,
05:58is that just the pace of those opening laps here,
06:01that makes that so much harder for those guys to push,
06:03just putting on out front?
06:04Well, I think, you know, with Jet doing that,
06:07I think his whole thing is, you know, all these guys,
06:10they don't, I don't know how much they really feel like they can beat him once he's out front,
06:13so him, anytime he gets in the lead,
06:15I think it changes the landscape of everybody, how they attack it,
06:18so for him being out front,
06:20his first lap, second lap, you know, changes for everybody else,
06:23everyone else is trying to attack it to stop him from being out front,
06:27and so they have to start riding them really aggressive,
06:29and especially with this track,
06:31you can see the distance between first and tenth,
06:33it's 16 seconds, it's only been two laps,
06:35so this particular track, you lose a lot of time,
06:38if you're not out front with these guys,
06:40so I think they're being very aggressive,
06:42but being the first motor of the day,
06:43the track is still breaking in,
06:45a little bit difficult for these guys,
06:46but they're really trying to go for it, Will.
06:47How about Blesinger here, James?
06:50He has passed Hampshire,
06:52and has begun to close,
06:53although he almost goes down to the bottom of the ski jump,
06:55but he has Jet Lawrence in his sights.
06:58Yeah, well, I mean, this is his holiday,
07:00you know, anybody's going to have some fan motivation,
07:03do it for USA,
07:04it is Aaron,
07:04and, you know,
07:05now you can start to see,
07:07I predict Jet's going to start picking back up the pace,
07:10I think once he got up in the second,
07:11he's settled down,
07:12now he sees Aaron catching him,
07:14so Jet's going to go back to work on Hunter,
07:17you can also see how dirty Jet's front number plate is, too,
07:21so another challenging part of this racetrack is that the soil,
07:25once you get hit with it,
07:26it sticks to you,
07:27unlike some of the other races where it's just a roost,
07:29this third really sticks to you,
07:30so also makes it a lot difficult for all these guys, as well.
07:34Reset the order,
07:35it's Lawrence and Lawrence,
07:36then Hampshire and Blesinger are battling,
07:38Blesinger has that third place spot at the moment,
07:41Hampshire fourth,
07:41Tomek is around Justin Kubri's fifth.
07:44Cooper's sixth,
07:45Prado's seventh,
07:46Anderson Barsha has climbed past Sexton to ninth,
07:51on the Rockstar Gascos,
07:52and Sexton is tenth,
07:54battling with Cooper Webb,
07:55and I think Webb might have just made a move on Sexton,
07:58but how about Sexton's teammate here in the Red Bull KTM,
08:01Blesinger,
08:02rolling JT.
08:04He is rolling,
08:05and coming into this weekend,
08:06I kind of set two goals that I thought AP should be aiming at,
08:09one,
08:10beat your teammate,
08:11you want to be the number one guy at Red Bull KTM,
08:13and the only way to be the man is to beat the man,
08:16and you want to be the alpha rider on your own team,
08:18and he's certainly doing that at the moment,
08:19and second,
08:20be on the podium,
08:21there is no better feeling here at Red Bull,
08:23than standing there holding a trophy,
08:25and watching that crowd go crazy,
08:27so you can see how motivated he is,
08:28he's closed down on these two leaders.
08:30Yeah,
08:32well,
08:32he's being the man,
08:34I just like Aaron's line,
08:35he's really opening up the racetrack,
08:37so he's carrying a lot of momentum,
08:39and in certain parts of the track,
08:40he's really closing in on these guys,
08:42like the lap before,
08:44and flows a lot into the mechanics,
08:45so a lot of that does,
08:47he's been able to make some passes,
08:49and he can kind of see where the other guy's breaking,
08:50but he definitely has that flow,
08:51and you've got to believe it's partly because the USA,
08:54and everybody loves this racetrack as well.
08:57Blesinger has the fastest lap of this race at 2.06,
09:00oh,
09:00and just like that,
09:01Jet strikes on Hunter,
09:03to try to get the lead,
09:04Hunter fights back,
09:06Jet locks it down.
09:07Now,
09:07he was going to worry,
09:08if there was going to be a little,
09:09little turbulence on the airplane,
09:11brothers collided right there,
09:13oh,
09:13Jet got beat off the pegs,
09:14James,
09:15and Hunter drives right by.
09:16Yeah,
09:16well,
09:17there's the point of this whole soul,
09:18the ramp up here,
09:19you can see how quickly things can happen,
09:21they get in these ruts,
09:22and they're so long,
09:23once you get stuck in it,
09:24rip both feet off,
09:26so.
09:27Jet going to come back on the downhill,
09:29Hunter able to hold it,
09:31can he stay clean,
09:32through these ruts?
09:33Yeah,
09:33that's brother love right there,
09:35because I think if there's anybody else,
09:36Jet would have just ran it down,
09:37he had that pass made.
09:39He might have another one made right here,
09:41he's on the inside,
09:41is the head of the tabletop,
09:43Hunter fights back,
09:44they look each other over,
09:45in midair.
09:46Yeah,
09:46I was about to say,
09:47I think Hunter's got to let him go by,
09:48because Jet has the quick place,
09:50and they're almost racing each other,
09:52like,
09:52are you going to do it,
09:53or you don't want to touch each other,
09:55so maybe they'll settle back in,
09:57Hunter can catch Jet's lines,
09:59and try to get going,
10:00because Jet does have a few better lines,
10:03than Hunter at the moment,
10:04so,
10:05nonetheless,
10:05no harm,
10:06no foul,
10:06but look,
10:06they already pulled four seconds on Aaron,
10:08even with all that battling.
10:09that was wild,
10:12they upped the pace,
10:13and then Plessinger made a mistake,
10:14and suddenly,
10:15yeah,
10:15four second down,
10:16between the Lawrence's,
10:17first and second,
10:18and then third,
10:19and you see it,
10:20Hampshire,
10:21has been passed by Tomac,
10:23and Tomac's on the inside,
10:25he's looking to get Plessinger.
10:26Yeah,
10:26that was weird,
10:27I was looking at Jet,
10:28when he jumped at,
10:29the LaRocca's Leaf,
10:30he pulled his foot out,
10:31so I wonder if he's,
10:33having some cramping,
10:34or something like that,
10:35because that was a little bit of strange,
10:36a little bit of MotoGP,
10:37kind of style,
10:38so you wonder,
10:39if maybe he caught his,
10:40foot in that rut,
10:41when he got stuck over there,
10:42JT.
10:43Yeah,
10:43you know what,
10:43I think he jumped long there,
10:45and a lot of times,
10:45you'll see guys stick that leg out,
10:47just to add some more,
10:48I guess,
10:49to add wind,
10:50basically,
10:50to slow themselves down,
10:52I've seen riders like Tim Ferry,
10:53do that in the past,
10:54a lot when you know you're going long,
10:56just add a sail,
10:57add something out there,
10:57to slow yourself down,
10:58this tiny bit,
10:59and I should add a sail,
11:00a lot of times,
11:01I was over jumping,
11:02so what do you do,
11:03when you come up short,
11:05so,
11:06yeah,
11:07no problem going long,
11:08no,
11:09Tomac,
11:10starting to roll here,
11:12he has passed Cooper,
11:13working on Plessinger,
11:16now,
11:16so far this year,
11:17we've seen Eli,
11:18he's had the pace,
11:19and a lot of times,
11:20on some of these motos,
11:21Eli's been clearly,
11:21the fastest guy on the racetrack,
11:23his problems is,
11:24is what his problem is right now,
11:26he's got Jed in front of him,
11:28and hopefully for him,
11:29he doesn't get stuck behind the air,
11:31because if he can get that open air,
11:33man,
11:33Eli can run a pace,
11:34that nobody can match on this racetrack,
11:36it's just once he gets stuck behind these guys,
11:38it slows them down,
11:39and for whatever reason this year,
11:41he's been stalling them out,
11:42a little bit more than he has years past,
11:43so,
11:44so far,
11:45Eli looks good,
11:46maybe since there's a little bit of missed opportunity,
11:48what happened last weekend at Southwick,
11:50he tries to get him,
11:52but he's going to have to make a move on air,
11:53and otherwise,
11:53it's going to be a lonely third place ride,
11:55yeah,
11:55but a lot of these this year for Tomac,
11:57this is an opportunity though,
11:59Plessinger not clean,
12:00through that corner,
12:02he's going to fight back,
12:03oh,
12:03I see some steam coming out of the bottom of Tomac's bike,
12:06but meanwhile,
12:06he powers past Plessinger,
12:08yeah,
12:08yeah,
12:08well,
12:08Eli's smoking right now,
12:10you know,
12:10but a little early in the race to have that clutch drive,
12:13but it just shows you how deep this track is,
12:15what we saw a lap ago,
12:16Jack getting his feet ripped off,
12:18it is hard on the bikes,
12:19kind of like Southwick,
12:20so,
12:21maybe that hopefully for us,
12:22that's what it is,
12:23and nothing else,
12:24give it a running order,
12:25the Oakley back riders out here,
12:27which includes Tomac,
12:29now up to third,
12:30and Plessinger fourth,
12:33Hampshire fifth,
12:34Cooper sixth,
12:35and then we mentioned that Barsha was able to make a move on Sexton,
12:38that is ninth and tenth,
12:40Webb was up there at one point,
12:42but Webb has dropped back to 18th,
12:44and shout out to Tony Corolli,
12:46who is at 11th right now behind Sexton,
12:48so,
12:49critical juncture,
12:50James,
12:50can Tomac bridge the gap to the Lawrences?
12:54Yeah,
12:54we're going to find out,
12:55he's got that open racetrack,
12:56looks pretty aggressive,
12:57he's getting away from Aaron,
12:58and I do believe the way this track is,
13:00set up,
13:01if Eli keeps running these outside lines,
13:03he loves having that,
13:04keeping those feet on the,
13:05on the pegs,
13:06just sweeping this whole racetrack,
13:08and half this track is like that,
13:09so,
13:11love what I see from the number three,
13:12just this next lap and a half,
13:14is super important for Eli at the moment,
13:16just try to keep that gap,
13:17at least not lose time,
13:18and I think that it may have some confidence,
13:20as he just lets him have it,
13:22yeah,
13:24big daddy out there,
13:24letting him have it,
13:25it's a mile an hour through that corner,
13:28Tomac beginning to stir,
13:31but up front,
13:32Jet Lawrence has put in the fastest lap of the race,
13:35a little bit quicker,
13:36than what he and Plessinger had,
13:37put down earlier,
13:39as we check in with,
13:40the number one,
13:41the defending champion,
13:42Chase Sexton back here in Dyke,
13:44yeah,
13:44Chase didn't get the start,
13:45he won it,
13:46looked like he made some,
13:47got passed a few times,
13:48so you don't know,
13:48if you maybe have one of these small tempos,
13:50which is easy to happen in this,
13:52you know,
13:53in the early part of the racetrack,
13:54but now,
13:55this might help Chase,
13:56I think this would be an opportunity,
13:58just to get out of here,
13:59and just race,
14:00you know,
14:00have to just work,
14:01get the feet wet,
14:02and all that,
14:02make his way back up here,
14:04instead of being out front,
14:05put feet to the fire,
14:06having to battle these dudes,
14:07it's a little far back,
14:08so we'll find out,
14:09Will,
14:09I was having a chat with him yesterday,
14:12James,
14:12just about expectations,
14:14like he said,
14:14it's tough to come back,
14:15at this point in the season,
14:16he said,
14:17I did that in 2023,
14:18if we remember,
14:19he had his injury there,
14:20practice injury,
14:21and a concussion,
14:22that took him out at the same point,
14:23after the first round,
14:24and he came back at red bike,
14:26and he said,
14:27when he looks back to that,
14:28he expected too much,
14:29so he's like,
14:30this time,
14:30I'm just gonna,
14:31I feel good,
14:32I'm ready to go,
14:33but he's like,
14:33at this point,
14:33I just have to kind of cancel out those expectations,
14:35but on the flip side of that,
14:37he's also very much got his eyes,
14:39on these SMX point standings,
14:41going into the playoffs,
14:42and he knows,
14:43that if he leaves this any longer,
14:44he's starting to get kind of geeked out,
14:46at that top group,
14:47and he needs to stay in that,
14:48so a bit of a balance there,
14:50for Chase Exxon,
14:51to make sure he's in it,
14:52but at the same time,
14:53not put too much pressure,
14:54on for missing so many races,
14:55and he's trying to get out,
14:56and I'm like,
14:56yeah,
14:57I think that's the right thing to do,
14:58just try to get out here,
14:58I mean,
14:58it's just hard for a guy like Chase,
15:00when you have the number one plate on the bike,
15:02you wanna go out there,
15:03and dominate,
15:04especially what we saw last year,
15:06being,
15:06you know,
15:07probably the best he's ever ridden in his life,
15:09so,
15:10you know,
15:10watching Chase ride,
15:11I can just see a few mistakes,
15:13and that's just typical for a guy,
15:14who haven't been here,
15:15but,
15:15listening to his motorcycle,
15:17I mean,
15:17I'm not,
15:18not gonna be afraid to say it,
15:19it sounds slow,
15:47They're in the midst of the season, everything just feels repetitive for them,
15:51where Chase is coming in cold, trying to find the pace,
15:54trying to find some comfort level here.
15:56And you can see mistakes.
15:57I'm sure he's frustrated inside that helmet running eighth place,
16:00but absolutely not the start and the return to pro motocross that Chase Jackson wanted thus far.
16:05Yeah, but he is trying to build toward those playoffs and trying to peak in September.
16:10Supermotocross playoffs offer some of the most unique fan opportunities in sports.
16:14Get the inside track to the...
16:17It's MXExperiences.com and become part of the action.
16:22That includes some spots very close to the racetrack at those rounds.
16:27Yeah, I talked to Chase yesterday,
16:28and bike is totally different than the one he had at round one before the crash.
16:33Thought they had learned some things to change the bike for 2025.
16:36They've gone back to a more 2024-like setup.
16:39Speaking of 24, it's the number 24.
16:43Hampshire is back.
16:44What an odd moto for Plessinger.
16:46Bad laps, good laps, bad laps, and he's about to get passed back.
16:51Yeah, well, these guys, they ride together all week long.
16:53You can see how much time to see if RJ gets the greases that's inside
16:57and not lose too much time on LaRocca's lead.
16:59But, yeah, I think for Aaron, you know, one thing, it's almost a fine line.
17:04When you get out there and you start catching the leaders, you're, like, getting really excited.
17:07And then once you start losing that toe, it's almost like you're worse off.
17:11You know, because you were able to catch him, you mentally got to reset.
17:14It's like, all right, let me focus over.
17:16So maybe a little bit...
17:17Can you get demoralized a little bit?
17:18Can you get demoralized, especially if you're Aaron, because, you know, as much as he wants,
17:21he loves to be on the podium, but we've heard him say a few times, he wants to win these things.
17:24And so by catching these guys and then all of a sudden they start pulling away,
17:28it's kind of frustrating as a rider.
17:29But doing a good job with RJ.
17:32He's still in fourth place.
17:33Eli's only a few seconds in front of him, so he's still got a lot to look forward to in this race.
17:37As for RJ Hempshire, we used to poke fun of the guy for being wide open.
17:43Even when he didn't crash, it looked like he might and he would save it on the 250.
17:46We have not seen that on the 450.
17:49No, well, RJ knows if he don't tame it, that beast is going to tame him.
17:54So, you know, but I also think with RJ, you know, I talked to him last week and he said just eating,
18:00you know, he doesn't have to watch his weight as much.
18:02And when you think about being a little bit heavier on the 450, it's going to balance him out.
18:06But I also think at the same time, just the way you got to ride a 450, it will calm you down,
18:11you know, not having to shift so much.
18:12So even his start issues, I think a little bit of that is pertaining to riding 250s, JT.
18:18James, I got an opportunity to speak to him right before qualifying session on Race Day Live there.
18:24And he talked about how this track's always kind of suited him.
18:26He has two overall wins here on the 250 and just things seem to click.
18:31So it kind of makes sense.
18:32He came off a great second moto at Southwick.
18:34He's following that up with arguably his best, maybe not the best overall moto score,
18:38but certainly the best ride so far of his pro motocross career on the 450.
18:44Thanks, JT.
18:46Battle has settled down just a little bit.
18:48He was closer to Plessinger the last time around.
18:51And then behind them, you've got Justin Cooper, Prado running by themselves.
18:57Six seconds further back is Sexton.
19:00And then it's this Barsha and Anderson battle that you're watching right now for the end of the top ten.
19:05Wow, nice rebound here for Barsha.
19:07He only started racing again last weekend at Southwick.
19:10Yeah, pretty quick today.
19:13Oh, it looks like Jason throws his hands up right there.
19:16So kind of weird.
19:18I don't know if that's a bike issue or a Jason issue, but.
19:23Barsha not asking questions.
19:24He's going to jump the lead and get away.
19:26Oh, yeah.
19:27Maybe Jason letting him know, look, I'm not here.
19:30Don't relapse on me today, son.
19:32So letting him know.
19:33But, yeah, there's something definitely going on wrong with Jason.
19:36I got to say, that's probably more with him, the way he's jumping.
19:39And then you've got the non-time Tony Caroli right behind him.
19:44Yeah, looking pretty good.
19:46Again, that's a stock bike.
19:47They don't have factory or works parts for it yet.
19:51So this is not much different than the showroom stock model.
19:54You'll be able to buy pretty quickly.
19:56And just had factory connection work in the suspension settings.
20:00It's actually Southwick hanging out with us last week.
20:03Did not race.
20:04But now it's July.
20:05The bike is homologated.
20:07And he'll race here and next weekend on the Ducati.
20:09Yeah, and one of the disadvantages for Tony compared to just the factory bike is when
20:15you get into those rollers, as you notice, like his bikes start rebounding a lot.
20:19And it's just stock bikes, they're great, great motorcycles.
20:22But they're really not built for.
20:24Oh, no.
20:24James Tomac.
20:25We saw the steam or smoke coming out earlier.
20:28And it looks like he might be done.
20:29Yeah, no, that's what I was saying earlier.
20:31It was a little early for having the clutch issues.
20:34But, yeah, that's a bummer.
20:36And you start to wonder, maybe hit somebody in Tangle.
20:39But, yeah, that's not the fire Eli wanted to kind of bring to.
20:43It's 4th of July.
20:44We got fireworks on.
20:47That's a bummer.
20:48Yeah.
20:49And look, it's going to cost a lot.
20:50Now, chance of overall podium at Red Bud are done.
20:54And it's going to kill him in the point standings.
20:57Yeah, we're looking at it.
20:58This is the big picture.
20:59And he's probably realizing it at this moment.
21:01It's the championship possibly ending.
21:03Yeah, now, Jed had built up a big point lead.
21:07But you never know in racing.
21:08But this is going to, certainly, I would think,
21:10bump Tomac back to 3rd or even worse in the standings.
21:14Yeah, and just to give you a little bit of where he's at,
21:16he's probably on the farthest part away from the pits.
21:20And he's in a valley down there.
21:21So, what's up, bro?
21:24Yeah, it's Malcolm Stewart by.
21:26And what's that?
21:27Cooper Webb.
21:29Yeah, Cooper, Joey Savace.
21:31Looks like Harry Kulass behind him.
21:33So, you know, it's funny.
21:37Well, let me send it to JT real quick.
21:39JT, Rossi.
21:40Well, you see Cooper Webb going by there.
21:41He actually crashed on the start and was dead last.
21:44So, he's on a march back towards near the front.
21:46But as I was seeing Eli Tomac sitting there with an expired motorcycle,
21:50I was wondering, could it possibly be the same issue that Cooper Webb ran into at Fox Race?
21:54Remember, he had a bike that said no moss at the opener.
21:58Thanks, JT.
21:59What I was going to say is that Tomac had a DNF on his Kawasaki at this track a couple of years ago.
22:05Lost the point lead that day when the engine let go.
22:08Yeah, and it feels like a whole different feeling where he was when he lost that points lead.
22:14He felt like at some point he had to get it back.
22:15This was going to be a little bit tougher.
22:17But, yeah, JT, it does look like the same thing because we were having those same issues.
22:22There's a little bit of smoke and all of a sudden things just blew up.
22:24So, one issue that we don't have, if you're a Honda HRC, is both brothers out front, Jet Lawrence looking.
22:31I mean, this kid is, this kid's for real now.
22:35Like, he's, he's bringing it.
22:37Yeah, you think he's even better now.
22:39This guy had a perfect season two years ago.
22:41You're seeing more now.
22:42No, he's, I don't think he's better.
22:44He is better.
22:45And you can just tell by the way he's opening up these races now.
22:49That's, you've got to be confident, as Will was talking about earlier, in an opening part of the races.
22:53Will?
22:55It's just that question that Jason just posed to you there, James.
22:58Do you think he's better?
22:59I asked both him and his brother Hunter that earlier on today.
23:03Let's look at the overall pace of racing here compared to going back to 22, 23.
23:08Has it gone up?
23:09Are you guys better?
23:10Hunter kind of had a think about it.
23:12He said, yeah, I think we are.
23:13It's like, it's all kind of marginal, right, by how much.
23:15He said, yes, I believe we're both better.
23:17I believe the entire field's better.
23:19And he kind of cited that between 22 and 23 and jet taking that jump up and everybody else then having to do that, having to step up and reach that pace.
23:29So he said, yeah, generally speaking, I think the pace is up.
23:32Yeah, and what I will say is being better is not necessarily going faster.
23:37You know, it's just the way he is on a motorcycle.
23:40Being better, you look at 250 class, Hayden Deegan, he'll come up next.
23:43It's just their body language.
23:45When they have tried to attack, I feel like being better means when I make a pass, I know when I'm going to make it.
23:51Things are going to happen around this racetrack the way I want it to, whether it's just, you know, being fast.
23:56He was already fast in 2023 when he won this thing.
23:58So he's had a Rocky Mountain team check in with this twisted team.
24:03H.E.P. Suzuki team presented by Progressive.
24:05Welcome to America.
24:07Benoit Patrelle has been very good hovering around that top 10.
24:10The majority of the races this year.
24:12Right now, Patrelle is in 16th.
24:14More trouble for his teammate, Colt Nichols, who has been luckless the last couple of weeks.
24:19And he is back into the 30s.
24:22And for the French veteran, Patrelle, we go back to the leader, Jett Lawrence.
24:28And now has a nine-second gap.
24:31And that's what that improvement that you're talking about looks like.
24:36Cerrado, that's won all but one overall ever that he's raced on a 450 in motocross.
24:41He's raced on a 450 in motocross, battles on hand.
24:43This is Prado.
24:46Sexton has caught Prado.
24:48This is for sixth.
24:50Yeah, Chase is slowly marching his way up.
24:53And I think this is a good thing for him, as I mentioned.
24:55Now Jett's so far gone that now he can just focus on just how the motorcycle feel.
25:01He can ease his way into this thing.
25:03He's not going to be happy with the finishing position knowing Chase.
25:06But at the same time, this is what he's got to learn and get back to it.
25:10That was a beautiful pass, by the way.
25:13So I think this is a good thing for Chase.
25:15And maybe if he continues this as he wipes, he's out of tear-offs, obviously.
25:19Might be better for this second moto as well because he's starting to look a little bit more loose on the motorcycle.
25:23And definitely looks a lot better than he did at Paula.
25:25Yeah, I was going to ask you, you know, there's going to be some rust with having this time off.
25:29Can the first moto do a lot of that?
25:31Can he be much better even an hour from now?
25:33What do you think, James?
25:33No, I absolutely think he can.
25:36And again, it just depends on how this moto goes.
25:39I actually think this moto is perfect for a guy like Chase coming off injuries.
25:43We're watching, like, Eli walk back off.
25:45He loves you fans.
25:47He's just disappointed right now.
25:48JT.
25:49Yeah, unfortunate there for Eli Tomac.
25:51You know, just thinking about Chase, though, and his comeback here to pro motocross, moving forward is a net positive.
25:58That's for sure.
25:59But you're talking about the defending champion.
26:00And what I worry about is he's going to go back and he's going to look at the lap times.
26:04And he's anywhere from four to five seconds a lap off of jet right now.
26:08That's demoralizing for a guy who's coming into these races wanting to win.
26:13Yeah, 100%.
26:15You know, but I will tell him if I was in Jason's corner, what I would tell him, like, look, that clean air, we know how important it is.
26:21And those opening laps that Jet was able to do that 206, you know, that's because he's got clean air and he's moving forward.
26:28But where you, you didn't start off right, you probably got caught up behind guys.
26:31But how is your race pace?
26:33You know, once you get into these laps, how's the race pace?
26:35How's your body feel?
26:37You know, how do you feel getting out here?
26:38Is your mind clear from coming off these injuries?
26:40And if that's good, then we can build off of that.
26:43But if he was out here and he was kind of going the opposite way, making a lot of mistakes, then I would say it would be tough.
26:49To me, when I'm watching Chase, he looks better now than he did when we first saw him.
26:52And I think that helps him out as well.
26:55But, of course, he wants to be where this number 18 is right now.
26:58The worst thing could be him starting up from him and Jet pulling away from him.
27:02Because I don't think Chase is ready for this level, which ain't nobody else in this field that's ready.
27:07So it might be a good thing where he started at.
27:09Yeah, never even was in that fight, but has been able to grind his way up to sixth as Jet continues to log laps up front.
27:17Hitting Larocco's lead at Redbud.
27:20Hunter Lawrence in second.
27:22And it's become an alarming trend if you're any other team in the paddock.
27:271-2-1-2-1-2-1-2 has been the story lately for the brothers, Lawrence of the Hondas.
27:32Yeah, and even scarier, it looks easy, you know, for these guys.
27:36Their bike looks good.
27:38I mean, there's nobody even in their field.
27:41I mean, that one Eli got up in the second place.
27:43I mean, third place.
27:44We don't know if some of the bike was kind of holding him back, but those guys just kept pulling away from him.
27:49So to me, it just looks like a continuation of what we saw starting at High Point and then last weekend.
27:56But those guys got it figured out.
27:58Great ride by this dude right here.
28:00Yeah, he made the move on Plessinger.
28:01So Hampshire is running at a podium spot in this moto, the 450 rookie of the Rockstar Husky.
28:07Yeah, R.J. looks good.
28:09This is why sometimes I feel like if you're riding with the guys like Aaron and all of them during the week, there's no secret.
28:15So R.J. is comfortable riding with you.
28:17So him making that pass, he's probably not too worried about you coming back because he rides with you every single day.
28:22But R.J. has definitely brought the heat, especially the way that Moto started.
28:26He was up there battling for the lead, got passed, regrouped.
28:30Now he's in the third place.
28:32That'd be a career best on a 450 for him.
28:34Back to Jett putting some lap riders behind him.
28:39Plessinger is still fourth.
28:41Justin Cooper fifth.
28:42Sexton made that move on Prado.
28:45Oh, and now Justin Cooper has caught Plessinger.
28:48What a strange race for the number seven.
28:50Yeah, this is why I go back to sometimes it's demoralizing in the opening parts because now once R.J. got him, he was just right behind R.J.
28:58So you don't know if something else is going on with the number seven.
29:02He's starting to fade back.
29:03But 250 riders getting ready.
29:05There is Hayden Deegan, the championship leader.
29:08He did go down late in qualifying today.
29:10Had a Charlie horse in the leg.
29:12So maybe getting that thing warmed up.
29:13He did log a good quick lap after that.
29:16Not sure how bad that situation is.
29:18As for the number seven here, losing spots, send it to JT.
29:23Yeah, Jay, just a question.
29:24What are your thoughts here on AP?
29:26You know, he's been pushing so hard at the beginning of these motos, trying to put pressure on the leaders.
29:31You think he's putting in too much work, like overriding the pace and overriding the track, and that's taking a toll on him late in the motos?
29:38Because this is two weeks in a row where he's really seen him suffer in the back half of the moto.
29:41Yeah, no, that's a great point, JT.
29:43And especially how he started the year off.
29:45I mean, he was really strong at the motos.
29:47I mean, he was a couple laps from winning the hottest race of the year and hanged on that first moto.
29:51And, yeah, when you're – it's different when you get out front.
29:56And, look, you can end up running the same lap times as JT and all these guys.
30:00But just those opening laps, what you've got to do to your body, if you're not ready for that, it can exhaust you really quickly.
30:07And then you've got to start fighting the mental side of things once you started feeling that way.
30:11Now your mental game because you know, look, man, I feel like I'm close to beating these guys.
30:16Now you're starting to lose that toe in the beginning part of the race.
30:18So, yeah, it is something that you can tell.
30:21He is trying to be very quick in the opening part of the races.
30:23And now with Jett doing the same thing, they all know they have to do that.
30:27And I think JT has an excellent point.
30:29It is bringing it out of him.
30:30And sometimes it might be better off just kind of to settle back and then regroup
30:34because he's starting to go the wrong way at this moment.
30:37And in two seconds behind him is his teammate, which is coming down too.
30:41How about Justin Cooper making a bid to perhaps be the number one seed when the SMX playoffs begin in September?
30:50He was third in the Supercross rankings and then moved to second because Sexton wasn't scoring points early in motocross.
30:57And he has chopped the lead that Cooper Webb had on him by more than half.
31:03Took it from about an 80-point deficit.
31:05He's taken about 50 out of it already.
31:06And he's going to make up more ground on Cooper Webb in the standings today.
31:11If he keeps up this pace, Justin Cooper might have the most combined points in motocross and Supercross this year.
31:18Check back in with Sexton.
31:20He's only two seconds behind.
31:21He might get Blesinger.
31:22Yeah, he's going to get Aaron for sure.
31:24Aaron's definitely, you know, feeling it for whatever reason.
31:28But, yeah, as you can look at Chase, I mean, he was, he saw Justin Cooper running a 209.
31:33Chase was the second fastest on that last lap.
31:35He had been consistently in these two 10s.
31:38So, as this race goes on, he's definitely looking a lot better.
31:42And that pass that he made on Jorge a few laps ago tells me that he started, he's feeling that race condition, race pace starting to come back to him.
31:50Otherwise, he wouldn't have made that pass.
31:52But he's going to get Aaron here pretty quickly.
31:55He might be in this corner right here.
31:56Well, yeah, Blesinger not aggressive at all on the entrance to that corner.
32:00And Sexton is around his teammate and into the top five.
32:04Hey, a shout-out to those listening to the show on Sirius XM.
32:08Every round of the Super Motocross World Championship available.
32:11Listen live.
32:12The NBC Sports Audio Channel, which is number 85 on Sirius XM.
32:17You know, it's going to look decent, or Sexton.
32:21It's going to potentially end with a top five.
32:24It's a good jump back in.
32:25Yeah, and I mean, again, I like the way he looks on the motorcycle.
32:30And earlier, I was saying the way his bike looked a little slow.
32:34You could tell him when he was even coming up against LaRocco's lead, like him having to pull up on the bike.
32:39And, again, I know the KTM's not slow.
32:42It could just be simply just the way he's riding a bike, gearing or whatnot, suspension setup.
32:47So that's one of the things, because he hasn't been out here riding, these other guys would have figured that part out.
32:52And now he's going to have to do that.
32:54And I will say here at Red Bull, because it's really humid, this dirt's really soft,
32:59if you don't have that out, it really brings it out and, you know, really makes it tough for these guys.
33:05And you can kind of see it to me when I watch him chasing his motorcycle.
33:09I don't know.
33:10Is that something you can fix between motos, or is that a bigger change?
33:14Or is it actually maybe the riding he's doing?
33:17Well, I mean, the riding looks good.
33:19And, yeah, I think it's going to help him because, one, he's going to be more comfortable riding in the race condition.
33:26So I think his lines will change.
33:28His track will harden up a little bit.
33:30So, overall, yeah, the bike might be holding him back or whatnot.
33:35But I think his riding looks a little bit better.
33:37His flow on the motorcycle, to me.
33:39And so whether they can make that change or not to make a huge difference, we don't know.
33:43But, to me, I think they'll be able to build off this instead of him going the other way.
33:49As Jet beat off the pegs as he's about to launch LaRocco's LEAF.
33:54And we check in with Tony Carolli, the now nearly 40-something Italian,
33:59the ninth-time champion of MXGP over in Europe, riding for the Italian brand Ducati,
34:05and really more of a testing and development guy.
34:07But they do bring him out to the races.
34:09Race, I believe, three MXGP rounds this year.
34:12He's in England a couple of weeks ago.
34:14He's in the top ten.
34:15And holding up pretty well right now.
34:18He's in ninth place.
34:19Yeah, he's holding up really well, you know, when you think about this.
34:22And Tony kind of ruins it for all of us because this is why I don't want to get out.
34:26I don't want to have to test because, look, our test guy shows up from a different country on the stock motorcycle.
34:32You go out and get ninth.
34:33Why aren't you doing it?
34:34So, Tony's doing a great job.
34:36And it just shows you how much he's enjoying riding this new motorcycle and this new opportunity with Ducati.
34:42Great for the sport.
34:43Great for Tony.
34:43And I love watching it.
34:45With Ducati jumping in, it is now ten brands that have raced races this year.
34:50Of course, Triumph has jumped into the 250 class.
34:53Beta is a recent entry into motocross and supercross as well.
34:57The traditional four Japanese manufacturers and that KTM group, KTM, Husqvarna, and Gas Gas.
35:04That's not a record.
35:04You go back to the earliest days of this championship, there would be ten at times.
35:08But it has been a long, long time.
35:10You're talking about 45 years since this many different brands have competed.
35:16But I think the main thing is to say that all ten are competitive.
35:20That's the thing.
35:21They're not laggers.
35:22We saw some good runs from the Beta guys with Benny Blossom and Supercross.
35:24Jordan Smith won a race in a Triumph in Supercross.
35:27That's what oppresses me.
35:29Yeah, absolutely.
35:30And I think just as a sport, when you're choosing a bike, they're all good these days.
35:36And like you said, just show these guys are coming in.
35:39Ducati, Triumph, Beta, all here.
35:42Just shows you how much this sport is growing.
35:46But as you mentioned, just shows the work that these guys are putting in to show up with a motorcycle,
35:50a stock motorcycle on Ducati and compete.
35:53And, you know, it's not like he's out here.
35:55People are just dropping.
35:56This guy is competing out here.
35:57So, really impressive.
36:00But I'll tell you, the other red is pretty darn impressive, too.
36:02These Hondos, like I said, it's getting alarming for everyone else.
36:06Jen Lawrence working on his 37th career moto win.
36:10Hunter Lawrence is in second.
36:12They're going to be 1-2 in points after this moto.
36:14They've been 1-2 in the last couple of motos in this championship.
36:19They are taking control at a level that we've never seen two brothers do.
36:24And even for a manufacturer to be this dominant, this goes back to Honda's glory days in the 80s, 90s,
36:29where they were throwing anybody on these bikes and doing it.
36:32Here it is.
36:33Moto 1 at Redbutt goes to Jen Lawrence.
36:36And it's going to be a Lawrence and Honda 1-2 again.
36:41Got the full-on boss of Honda, HRC, the president, coming over from Japan to watch the race today.
36:46And he's got to be happy with what he just saw.
36:50I don't know how much it ran into the veil right there.
36:53Got to finish first.
36:54Yeah, I got to finish that thing.
36:56You see, shake his head.
36:57But, yeah, as you mentioned, that was a dominant by these guys.
37:02It's the Honda Redbutt National in multiple ways.
37:04There's no doubt about that.
37:06It's hot out there.
37:07Jet going to begin to cool down.
