00:41Great start by Joe.
00:42He just heard the key up there, get in front of the situation,
00:45and now let's see what the number 30 can do.
00:48It's good to see him out front.
00:49It's actually one of the first times, if not the first time, he's been in the lead.
00:53So let's see what HRC Honda can do in front of the boss man.
00:56Yeah, you nailed it, James.
00:57That is his first whole shot of the year, but here comes Tom Villal.
01:0016 on the Orange Red Bull KTM.
01:02Now, we heard Tom been talking about the last couple weeks,
01:04especially last weekend, opening lap as he makes his way around Joe Shimoda.
01:08Working about that opening lap intensity, he knows that's where Hayden Deegan is really strong.
01:13He's strong everywhere, but can't start.
01:15If you can't start in front of him, you've got to have that intensity.
01:17It's good to see these two, and I would say probably the two ones that we're likely to maybe upset Deegan
01:22outside of Chance Hymus, who's out injured.
01:25Yeah, these riders are second and third at points.
01:28Shimoda and Villal, you've got Jalik Swole, who's been very good coming back from injury on the triumph.
01:33Seth Hammaker, where is Deegan?
01:36He is 17th, and DeFrancisco, 22nd.
01:40Yeah, that's a crazy start.
01:42I thought Hayden was, ooh, hang on there, Tom, right there, feet ripping off.
01:47But, I mean, look at the gap he's already got.
01:48You're talking about the intensity.
01:50That is a good sign for the number 16.
01:51But, yeah, Hayden Deegan's in the back, and if I'm Tom Villal, I'm running away.
01:56I don't want to see anything to do with that number one because eventually he will come.
01:59Maybe he'll worry about maybe that injury is a little bit worse than what it is.
02:02The Charlie horse, we don't know.
02:04But Hayden might start thinking about the championship if Tom's 15 seconds out front.
02:08Will?
02:09Even though Tom Villal got round Joe Shimoda there, that was an incredible start from Joe,
02:15and it's been a very kind of hit-and-miss situation with his starts.
02:18They've sort of been okay, but they've been working on them, both himself and the team.
02:21And when I asked what specifically, they said, well, it's a little bit of both,
02:24but they've definitely been looking at some mapping to help within that.
02:27So they obviously control the power delivery there, and they said, but with that, we need Joe to adjust too.
02:32So both of those things have come together.
02:34It's been a real focus over the last week, and definitely help for the start of both.
02:38That is Shimoda's first hole shot, Will, since 2023.
02:42So it worked there, and with Deegan way back.
02:46Believe it or not, even though Villal and Shimoda are top three in points,
02:51neither of them had a lap lead this year until now, with Villal getting that first lap.
02:55Yeah, we were just talking about in the 450 class, just that different mindset
02:58where we were talking with Aaron, that intensity in the early part of the race.
03:01Now, since they've gotten his start, they've got a gap on Hayden.
03:05Let's see how they react, because as Honda was talking about, Joe's going to have to adjust.
03:10I think what he's going to have to adjust as well is getting that pace
03:12and being used to not chasing, but rather leading.
03:16Obviously, he has Tom B. Allen in front, but I think both those guys might be in the same situation.
03:19Let's see what they can do with it.
03:20Right of the watch in green, that is Seth Hamaker, Monster Energy, Pro Circuit Kawasaki fourth,
03:26and he's got an inside line on Swole for third.
03:29See if he can make this pass.
03:31He's got it.
03:32JT.
03:33By watching Jaleek Swole, if you're wondering why Hayden Deegan didn't get such a great start,
03:37you can point to none other than Jaleek Swole.
03:39They both got out to great jumps when we were accelerating side-by-side.
03:43Swole had just the edge, forced Deegan to let off.
03:46Deegan had to drop back into the pack.
03:48Swole came out third.
03:48You know what's interesting?
03:50Deegan, the headline would be that he's had great success at this track.
03:54He dominated in one of his final amateur races.
03:58That was the Scouting Moto Combine back in 2022.
04:01He won his first pro race here in 2023, but it's been through consistency.
04:06Deegan has actually never won a moto professionally at Redbud,
04:10and he's got a tall order today, running in 11,
04:13and a golden opportunity for the likes of B. Allen.
04:15Well, if I was a betting man, which I'm not,
04:17but I think that might change at some point today.
04:20But, yeah, I think Hayden's, you know, those stats,
04:23the way he's riding this year, it doesn't really matter.
04:25But, yeah, some places you just feel more comfortable at it.
04:27In some places you come to, you feel comfortable.
04:29You just don't have the luck to be able to get the wins.
04:32But I'd say he definitely has that pace to be able to get that done.
04:35But that is a strange stat to see.
04:36He's never won a moto here.
04:37And a couple other riders on the move here.
04:40Date Thrasher on the 41.
04:42That's the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing Machine.
04:45Schwartz has a good start backing up that good qualifying time.
04:49Deegan, well, he made a mistake, I think, in those rollers.
04:52Yeah, you've got to hang on to that bike, son.
04:54But you can see the gap that he's already lost in two laps.
04:58You know, that's what I was saying, how the weight is built.
05:00It just spreads out.
05:02Even though he's only, you know, 14 seconds down,
05:04he's got a group of riders to get around.
05:07And you heard Jet that last moto send.
05:09It's track's kind of difficult to pass on.
05:11It's really deep.
05:11So him exploring, finding those lines,
05:14it's going to be a little bit of a disadvantage
05:15at this early stage of the race.
05:18Will.
05:20Well, there's going to be some serious motivation
05:22out of this kid right now as he works his way forward.
05:25He started the season perfect,
05:27and then we know he did not until Travis Hingis then.
05:30stole a couple of motos away from him.
05:32And we were wondering how much was that affecting him?
05:35You know, his narrative was, well, you know,
05:37it'll be a tall order, I'm not really focused on that.
05:39Well, he very much was.
05:41And apparently he did not like the fact that that string came to an end.
05:46And they said from this point onwards,
05:48he has made it very clear that he wants to win
05:50every single moto remaining in the season.
05:53So I'm sure he's going to want to fight as hard as he can, James,
05:56to get up to the front here and make that happen.
05:57Yeah, I know he will.
06:00And I know he's definitely a kid of the stats.
06:02I mean, he knew about the stats of how many, you know,
06:05moto win, the tie in the record.
06:06So this kid's very aware.
06:08And he just keeps him motivated.
06:09And I'm sure he's aware that he's never won a moto here too.
06:12So that's probably motivating for him as well.
06:15JT.
06:16James, you know, it's going to be interesting to watch this.
06:18So what I want to see here from Hayden Deegan is the last 10 minutes,
06:22let's say the last five to six laps.
06:24Let's see what his lap times are compared to the leaders.
06:27Because every time he's been in this situation where he's had to close a lead down,
06:32that is when he does his best work.
06:33He can put three, four, five seconds into guys in the last couple laps.
06:36And on a hot day like today, that could be a weapon he can wield.
06:40Thanks.
06:41And JT earlier told us as he hits LaRocco's leap on the 250,
06:45and Schwarz just fell in front of him.
06:48So he's making up time and track positions.
06:51Anyway, JT told us about Deegan and Swole off the start.
06:54We have a replay to show you.
06:56Yeah, Hayden didn't get the best of jumps.
07:00So Jalik's on the – Jalik's on the outside.
07:03So Jalik leans in on him, no big deal.
07:05But that was really – started off bat for Hayden.
07:07He didn't get the jump.
07:08And when you don't, these things kind of happen.
07:10But, yeah, he launches that leap.
07:13But, you know, thinking about it, because he was launched that leap,
07:16he was able to see the guy who fell in that corner.
07:18If he wouldn't have been able to do it, he didn't jump in,
07:20he might have had a chance to run into him.
07:21So when things are working, they're just working.
07:24And I'm going to tell you this, if Tapio, if they don't have at least 10, 12, 13 seconds on this dude
07:30after about 10 minutes left, Hayden's still going to win this race.
07:34Well, we know he can make up time.
07:36We've seen him do it before.
07:37But even on that lap, he's still lost ground.
07:39He's in the pack.
07:40And the gap went from 14 seconds to 15.
07:43And now Deegan goes down.
07:45This is what we needed to see.
07:48You know, like, look, Hayden's moving his way up.
07:50We needed to see from the other guys.
07:52This is going to help those guys out.
07:54This is what they needed to happen.
07:56And as far as Hayden, he'll still march his way back up.
07:58He didn't lose too many positions.
07:59But now you're starting to wonder, is he going to change that mindset
08:02and go to championship mode and get back on that podium?
08:05Or is he still going to go continue hitting the league
08:07and try to win this race?
08:09So we'll find out.
08:10Just passed Levi Kitchen back.
08:12This is for eight.
08:14Now Kitchen's on the inside.
08:16Lines all over this racetrack.
08:17Kitchen gets him.
08:18Yeah, I don't think Levi really did much besides just continue down that inside.
08:24That outside just funneled in and Hayden got stuck into it.
08:26So a couple of mistakes.
08:28You know, you go back to that practice crash.
08:30And then this one, I don't think it's Hayden doing anything.
08:33Like, he doesn't like he's rotting out of control.
08:34But when things are just start going off a little bit,
08:37it's easy to make one mistake into two or three.
08:40But Hayden's a smart route, and he'll regroup.
08:42And then ahead of them is Mikkel Harrop on the triumph.
08:45That is a battle right now.
08:47It's 7th, 8th, 9th is what you're seeing on screen.
08:52But it's going to be interesting to see the interval next time around.
08:55Right now it's saying they're in the 30s.
08:57Not sure if that's accurate yet.
08:59We'll reset that and see how far back Deegan is.
09:01Meanwhile, Tom Vial getting it done up front over Shimoda and Havaker.
09:06And Kitchin, he's pulled away from Deegan and is going after Harrop on that 107.
09:11Yeah, good to see Levi moving up.
09:13And, you know, no matter if Hayden made a mistake,
09:16Levi making that pass probably helps him out,
09:18just motivates him to continue moving forward.
09:20So another pass by Levi.
09:21And, you know, looking at our timing and scoring,
09:24we lost Dylan Schwartz.
09:26That was him on the inside of that.
09:27So bummer for him being that quick in practice.
09:30But, yeah, let's see what Hayden does.
09:32Now he's going to regroup.
09:34Race is still...
09:36Yeah, our timing and scoring is now, so you can't really see it.
09:39Yeah, well, we know this.
09:41He's only 10 minutes into the Bodo, so there's plenty of time.
09:44We don't have the intervals at the moment.
09:46As Vial tries to control it out front.
09:49And Deegan has to go to work on Harrop now
09:51because Kitchin is moving forward.
09:52There is Vial, the leader, made some bike changes.
09:59They went back a little bit more of a 2024 setup.
10:03Starting last week at Southwick was a lot better.
10:06It's funny, I actually talked to Chase Sexton yesterday,
10:08and he said, I was watching the races on TV,
10:10and I told Tom, this ain't going to work.
10:12We've got to go back to what was good in 2024.
10:14They've done that, and Vial is riding better.
10:16We talked to Vial yesterday
10:19about trying to get back into the championship fight.
10:23Aiden, to be honest, yes, we are halfway.
10:26I've been making a couple mistakes,
10:29especially in that second round in Hankton.
10:32I did not finish a model,
10:34so I lost a lot for the championships.
10:36I'm, I think, third right now in the championship,
10:38pretty close from Joe with second.
10:42But Aiden is far away,
10:43and obviously he has been riding well.
10:47He didn't really do any mistakes.
10:48He starts in front, so it's tough.
10:50Right now it's tough to beat him,
10:51but keep on trying.
10:53That's my goal each weekend
10:54to go to the race and keep on trying.
10:57Keep on winning the race
10:58and keep fighting till the end.
11:02Tom Vial, guys, so, you hear it there in that clip.
11:05He's so motivated to keep this going.
11:07It's got to be tough, and I've asked him,
11:09it's hard, right, when it's kind of,
11:11this gap is already there,
11:12but the motivation for Tom Vial is there.
11:14And we saw it last week in Southwick,
11:17in that first moto.
11:18He just fought so hard to get back
11:20after going down for that crash.
11:22And he said,
11:23that's what I just need to eliminate,
11:24he told me earlier today.
11:26The bike's comfortable now.
11:27Southwick was good.
11:28We've kept what we had set up there.
11:31Coming into this weekend,
11:32he said, I've just got to put myself
11:33in the right position
11:34to get all this coming together.
11:35And as far as the bike set up goes,
11:37like you said,
11:38basically on last year's set up,
11:41it is a little bit different.
11:42They said, you know,
11:42they had a bridge in the beginning of the year.
11:45Great for hard pack.
11:46That was working well.
11:46But when they sort of tried to develop
11:48that version of it,
11:49it wasn't going well for them.
11:50So they had to sort of back up a little bit
11:52and go down a bit of another avenue.
11:54And Tom's is far happier where he is now.
11:57Well, it certainly looks that way.
11:59It was on the podium last week.
12:01Really,
12:02the breakout was a better second moto
12:03at high point
12:04than the good Southwick we mentioned.
12:06And now out front.
12:08And I think these gaps
12:10are legitimately what they are,
12:11as you see on screen.
12:12Deegan is 24 seconds back.
12:14The Alibide have a breakthrough.
12:15Deegan's still digging down here.
12:17Seventh.
12:18Behind him is his teammate Thrasher,
12:20the bottom box.
12:22Yeah, it's good.
12:23We knew Hayden would regroup
12:24and come back up here.
12:26So eventually,
12:26he's going to come up to the front.
12:27But yeah,
12:28I think that as this race goes on,
12:29another maybe five minutes,
12:31then if Tom keeps that gap,
12:32then he'll start relaxing.
12:34At this point,
12:35he's still trying to pull away
12:36because, look,
12:37he knows that one isn't behind him,
12:39but he's somewhere behind him.
12:41So I think as a rider,
12:42he's still riding a little tense
12:44at the moment.
12:45And so as this race starts getting on,
12:46he keeps that gap.
12:47He'll funnel in.
12:48And I think that
12:48to just look a little
12:49a little bit cleaner
12:50around the racetrack.
12:51That being said,
12:52only Joe Shimoda,
12:53we know how he is.
12:54He gets better as the race goes on.
12:56He's only five seconds behind him as well.
12:57So race ain't over for the win.
12:59So that's key that you said that
13:00when a rider gets as dominant
13:02as Deegan has been,
13:03or say Jet Lawrence in the 450s,
13:05every rider says,
13:05I want to ride my own race.
13:07But you're thinking about the guy
13:08even when you're logging your own laps.
13:10Oh, yeah, absolutely.
13:11And my boy,
13:12the counterpart to Ricky Carmichael,
13:14yeah, it really wouldn't matter
13:15if I was out front
13:16unless I was just feeling
13:17like I'm going to just beat him,
13:19which wasn't that many times.
13:21I was always racing against him.
13:22And at some point,
13:23he just knew if I wasn't out front
13:26by, you know,
13:2615 seconds,
13:27we're halfway to go,
13:28there's no point
13:29in trying to just run away
13:30from this guy.
13:30This guy's going to eventually
13:31so as I'm riding my own race,
13:33I'm riding my race
13:34thinking about where Ricky is
13:35at this point.
13:36And Tom Vial,
13:37because Deegan has been so dominant,
13:39because Deegan is so strong
13:40at the end of the race,
13:41Tom is riding,
13:42you know,
13:43thinking about where he is.
13:45So there'll be a point
13:46where he'll know
13:46that he won't be able
13:47to catch up,
13:48but I don't think
13:48that points yet.
13:49Will?
13:49All right.
13:49Think about it.
13:51Will?
13:52Just watching these two guys
13:53here in ninth and eighth,
13:55that battle for eighth,
13:56we've got Mikel Harro
13:57and Nate Thrasher.
13:59And neither of them really
14:01with much experience
14:02riding here at motocross.
14:03That might sound strange
14:04to say about Nate Thrasher,
14:05but due to injuries,
14:07he's never gone this deep
14:08into an outdoor season before.
14:10The team were telling me
14:11this is just kind of
14:12a building year for him
14:14in that sense.
14:14Like, every week,
14:15he's getting stronger.
14:16During the week,
14:17they're picking up,
14:18outwards, set up,
14:18and the bike.
14:19And you personally,
14:20we think of Nate Thrasher
14:21as this guy
14:22who'd be great outdoors
14:23because he's such a gutsy,
14:25gritty rider.
14:26But at this point,
14:27this is all kind of new
14:28for him from this point onwards.
14:31Yeah, and Thrasher's
14:32on the radar
14:32because he's won
14:33several Supercross races
14:34the last couple of years.
14:36But on the downside,
14:37he's gotten hurt
14:38in Supercross
14:38the last couple of years.
14:39So that's why
14:40he does not have
14:40the outdoor results
14:42to match
14:42his Supercross success.
14:44Checking in with
14:45Shimoda here,
14:46second.
14:47And he's closed up
14:48a little bit
14:48on the L,
14:49on the Honda HRC
14:50Progressive Bike.
14:52Could still be a run
14:53in it because
14:53somehow there's still
14:55a lot of racing
14:56left in this moto.
14:58Feels like we've been
14:59out here a while
14:59but not even halfway.
15:00Yeah, there's a lot
15:01of racing,
15:02and Tom didn't have
15:03a great lap.
15:03I mean, he ran a 214
15:04to 214.1
15:06to Joe's 212.2.
15:08Hayden Deegan
15:09was a 211
15:10along with Levi Kitchen.
15:11So Tom lost
15:12a lot of time.
15:14So that's why
15:14I was mentioning,
15:15like, he still looks
15:16like he's racing
15:17behind him
15:18just because he's
15:18not comfortable
15:19with being out front
15:19because you know
15:20that number one's going.
15:21But this guy,
15:22good to see Seth
15:22back up here.
15:24Talked about his injuries
15:25throughout the Supercross season.
15:26It was a nice
15:27confidence booster for him.
15:28The outdoors
15:28hasn't started off
15:29great for him.
15:30He missed a couple rounds
15:31but good to see Seth back.
15:32And we know he has
15:33the speed as well
15:34once he can get
15:35through these injuries
15:36and just log these laps.
15:37Yeah, it was a couple
15:38weeks ago
15:39at High Point
15:39had his first ever
15:40moto podium
15:41in motocross.
15:42Not quite as good
15:43in the sand of Southwick
15:44but back up there
15:45today will.
15:46Yeah, now we've got
15:47the chance
15:47to talk to him earlier
15:48about Supercross
15:51and how the end
15:52of that season
15:53has perhaps affected
15:54him going into
15:55the motocross season here.
15:56You said, I mean,
15:57he was right there, right?
15:58That Supercross championship
15:59was kind of
16:00snatched away from him
16:02if you'd like
16:02right in the finale there.
16:03And he said,
16:04honestly,
16:04it would have been
16:05kind of better
16:05if I had a Supercross
16:07hangover.
16:07In other words,
16:08if he'd won
16:08that championship
16:09then he's like,
16:10all right,
16:10I can handle that.
16:12He's like,
16:12but honestly,
16:13the way it went down
16:14he's like,
16:14I'm not going to dwell
16:15on it.
16:15I can't be there
16:16every week thinking
16:17about this.
16:18He said,
16:18but I'll be honest,
16:19it took its toll.
16:20Emotionally,
16:21physically,
16:21that took its toll
16:22and sort of kind of
16:23just rebuild
16:24the confidence back
16:25from that.
16:26Yeah, no,
16:26I agree with Seth
16:27and there's not a lot
16:28of hangovers
16:29in life that you like
16:30you want to have
16:31but a Supercross
16:31hangover,
16:32that's not a bad
16:33one to have
16:33championship one.
16:34Yeah,
16:34the championship
16:35when comes with a big
16:36check,
16:36probably about
16:36half a million bucks.
16:39His hangover
16:39is the fact
16:39that he didn't get it
16:40because of the drama
16:41with battling
16:42RJ Hampshire,
16:44Julian Bomer,
16:45and then Vial
16:45was able to sneak
16:46it out.
16:47Sneaking up now
16:48on Handmaker
16:49is his teammate
16:50Levi Kitchen.
16:52Yeah,
16:52I'm looking at
16:53the timing of scoring
16:54and I don't know
16:54if Hayden went
16:55down again
16:56or whatnot
16:57or Levi's
16:58just really cruising
16:58because,
16:59yeah,
17:00Levi got around
17:01and Michael Boseman
17:04and Hayden
17:04behind him
17:05so,
17:05I'm not sure
17:06what happened there
17:06I thought Hayden
17:07was right behind
17:08Levi,
17:08but Levi's got the pace
17:09and,
17:09you know,
17:11you start to wonder
17:11was it just that pass
17:13him making that pass
17:14on Hayden
17:14going down that hill
17:15I mean,
17:16he's lit a candle
17:17he's got the fire going
17:19so,
17:19good to see that
17:20and he's going to have
17:21this pass on his teammate
17:21right here
17:22got to slow it down
17:25a little bit
17:26make sure he doesn't
17:26cut Mike
17:27underneath you
17:28that's good stuff
17:29okay,
17:30so,
17:30kitchen all the way
17:31up to third
17:32from outside the top 10
17:34and what's interesting
17:37about the 250 class
17:38Hymas is now out
17:39but for all the chaos
17:41and all the things
17:42that have happened
17:42it's honestly the same
17:44players that are the
17:45quote-unquote
17:46Deegan challengers
17:46Miel,
17:47Shimoda,
17:48really kitchen
17:48has come back to life
17:49the last couple of weeks
17:50and those really were
17:51the three along with
17:52Hymas that were expected
17:53to be the guys closest
17:54to him
17:55yeah,
17:55no,
17:55absolutely
17:56and yeah,
17:56it's a bummer to see
17:57chance because I feel like
17:59when Hayden's on his best
18:00chance on his best
18:01like,
18:02chance can beat Hayden
18:03I feel like with these
18:04other guys
18:05Hayden's got to get a bad
18:06start
18:06and just because of where
18:07their confidence is at this
18:08moment
18:09not just their speed
18:09because Levi knows how to
18:11ride
18:11same thing with Joe
18:12Shimoda
18:12things got to happen right
18:14as it does for all
18:15these guys
18:16so,
18:16yeah,
18:17the same players are going
18:18to be there
18:19he's got to get it done
18:20looks like
18:21hey,
18:21we said
18:21as you see Deegan
18:22catching Mozeman
18:23for 5th
18:25the K-Tip Keyes
18:26and Voto
18:26take advantage
18:27of the situation
18:27the situation
18:28ended up being
18:29a bad start
18:30and a tip over
18:31for Deegan
18:32and they're taking
18:32advantage
18:33as the check-in
18:35here for the
18:35Monster Energy
18:36Yamaha Star Racing
18:37team begins
18:38Mozeman
18:39and Deegan
18:40battling 6th and 7th
18:41you see them
18:41and then Thrasher
18:42back there
18:43in 8th
18:44but
18:45yes,
18:46they are indeed
18:46taking advantage
18:47of the situation
18:48yeah,
18:49you got to
18:49Hayden got a little
18:51swall up
18:51off the gate
18:52yeah,
18:55he did
18:55I see what you did
18:56there
18:56Swall is actually
18:587th right behind
19:00Deegan
19:00at the moment
19:01Mozeman has caught
19:03Seth Hamaker
19:04just like that
19:05yeah,
19:06or did Seth go down
19:07over here
19:08because of George
19:09yeah,
19:09that happened
19:10in a hurry
19:11so we're gonna see
19:12has Hamaker
19:13lost some steam
19:14here
19:14or was it just
19:14one error
19:15yeah,
19:18as you mentioned
19:18earlier
19:19Michael could run
19:20really good
19:21this battle
19:21for the lead
19:22wait a minute
19:22yes,
19:23Joe time
19:24Joe Shimoda
19:25has caught
19:26Tom Bial
19:28battle for the lead
19:35just like that
19:35it was a nearly
19:36five second gap
19:37then a three second gap
19:38and now a
19:39no second gap
19:41for the Frenchman
19:42yeah,
19:43now the best part
19:44of this
19:45you know
19:45when you start
19:45thinking about
19:45this race
19:46this might have
19:46worked out
19:47for Joe
19:47because I don't
19:48know how
19:48comfortable
19:49he would have
19:49felt in the lead
19:50we know how
19:51strong he is
19:52at the end
19:53of the races
19:54but because Tom
19:55was able to pass
19:55him
19:55we saw the gap
19:56that Tom had
19:57he had almost
19:57six seconds
19:58on him
19:58now Joe
19:59was able to ride
20:00and kind of
20:00fill in this
20:01normal zone
20:02as this guy
20:02behind him
20:03almost KOs himself
20:04showing us
20:05how rough this track
20:06is
20:07Joe's been in
20:08more of a
20:09comfortable spot
20:10he's been able
20:10to watch
20:10where Tom
20:11has been fast
20:11and now it's
20:13go time for Joe
20:14and we can go
20:14back years ago
20:15where Joe
20:15had one of the
20:16most dominant
20:17rides out here
20:17winning a moto
20:19so let's go get
20:21some
20:21by East Coast
20:22battle for the lead
20:27for the 250
20:27Moto 1
20:28he's going to lift
20:31it in
20:31bottom box
20:35Deegan
20:36doing more work
20:37Moe's been
20:38around
20:38Hamaker
20:38Deegan
20:39right behind
20:40them
20:40that is
20:41for fourth
20:41fifth
20:41and sixth
20:42big difference
20:49in lines
20:50between these
20:51two riders
20:51out front
20:52Shemota
20:55trying to
20:56make it happen
20:56James
20:56yeah
20:57Joe's trying
20:57to
20:58when he gets
20:58close to
20:59Tom
21:00right here
21:00he kind of
21:00makes some
21:01mistakes
21:01I think
21:01that's
21:02just the
21:02way
21:02these
21:02ruts
21:03are so
21:03long
21:04it looks
21:05like
21:05Michael
21:05gets
21:06around
21:06Seth
21:06right
21:06down
21:07there
21:07but
21:07these
21:07ruts
21:07are so
21:08long
21:08it's
21:08easy
21:08to just
21:09make
21:09a mistake
21:09because
21:09you're
21:10so close
21:10to the
21:10guy
21:11Deegan
21:12almost
21:12got
21:13Hamaker
21:13in that
21:13bottom
21:13box
21:14as well
21:14good
21:15three
21:15rider
21:15fight
21:16for fourth
21:17with Kitchen
21:18not too
21:18far ahead
21:19Deegan
21:19squaring up
21:20Hamaker
21:20Shimoda
21:21right there
21:22for the
21:23lead
21:23now
21:24Tom's
21:24going to be
21:25stuck in
21:25his rush
21:25Joe can
21:26just run
21:26it down
21:26the inside
21:27he's going
21:28to have
21:28this hump
21:28here so he's
21:29going to have
21:29to get out
21:29of his berm
21:30and cut
21:30him off
21:31got it
21:32there you
21:32go
21:33let's
21:35listen for the
21:36drag race
21:36up to the
21:37Monza
21:37wall
21:37and this
21:41crowd coming
21:42to life
21:42with Shimoda's
21:43charge
21:43yeah
21:45international
21:45they love
21:46Joe
21:46out here
21:47Joe's
21:47one of the
21:47fan favorites
21:48so cool
21:49to see
21:49him out
21:50here
21:50expect
21:51Joe
21:51probably
21:51put in
21:52a couple
21:52laps
21:52and maybe
21:53start
21:53pulling
21:54away
21:54on Tom
21:55because
21:55he looks
21:55really
21:56comfortable
21:56at doing
21:56it
21:56as we're
21:57watching
21:57these
21:57guys
21:57go at
21:58it
21:58in the
21:58bottom
21:58down
21:58here
21:59yeah
22:00Deegan
22:00made
22:00the
22:00move
22:01on
22:01hammock
22:01or
22:01lap rider
22:04there
22:05needs
22:05to get
22:05to
22:06Moseman
22:06that would
22:08be next
22:08and Shimoda
22:10go
22:10here's
22:14Deegan
22:14with the
22:14attack
22:14on his
22:15teammate
22:15Moseman
22:15Moseman
22:17riding
22:18very well
22:19as of
22:19late
22:19oh no
22:20now Deegan
22:20has the
22:21steam
22:21coming
22:21out
22:22of the
22:22bike
22:22similar
22:23to
22:23Eli
22:24Tomac
22:24in the
22:24first
22:25moto
22:25yeah
22:26now
22:26I believe
22:27the way
22:27we are
22:27in this
22:28moto
22:28that
22:28steam
22:29might
22:29be
22:29just
22:29clutching
22:30and overheating
22:31I can see
22:32Hayden
22:32rushing
22:32some of
22:33these
22:33corners
22:33getting
22:34cross
22:34running
22:34which means
22:35you got
22:35to pull
22:35in the
22:36clutch
22:36to get
22:36this
22:36thing
22:36going
22:37and Hayden
22:37doesn't
22:37like
22:38to
22:38let off
22:38the
22:38throttle
22:39but now
22:39she's
22:40smoking
22:40pretty
22:41hard
22:41JT
22:41he is
22:42and remember
22:42Thunder Valley
22:43we talked to
22:44Brian a little
22:45bit after
22:45the race
22:45he's just
22:46saying
22:46he's
22:46overriding
22:47the
22:47motorcycle
22:48too high
22:48of RPMs
22:49using the
22:50clutch
22:50too much
22:51out of
22:51frustration
22:52and it
22:52feels like
22:53he's
22:58much
22:58similar
22:59to
22:59they
22:59did
22:59in
22:59Thunder
22:59Valley
23:00that'll
23:02be
23:02next
23:02quarter
23:03here
23:03trying to
23:10listen to
23:10Deegan's
23:11style
23:11though
23:12yeah he's
23:16hard on a
23:16bike
23:17no doubt
23:17about it
23:18with the
23:19aggressive
23:20style
23:20will he
23:22pack it
23:22in and
23:22just try
23:23to take
23:23points
23:23yeah
23:25I mean
23:25I could
23:25just tell
23:25about
23:26those
23:26couple
23:26corners
23:26he's
23:27he must
23:27that got
23:28the feeling
23:29or somebody
23:29told him
23:30because he's
23:30definitely
23:30not
23:31you know
23:32running in
23:32his corners
23:33bike wide
23:34open
23:34the clutch
23:34pulled in
23:35which he was
23:35doing and
23:36that was
23:36because as
23:36JT mentioned
23:37he was
23:37getting frustrated
23:38you see
23:39by his body
23:39language right
23:40here
23:40he's changed
23:40up a little
23:41bit
23:41so hard
23:42part about
23:42Hayden
23:43you're a racer
23:44once you get
23:44back up to
23:45Michael
23:45and you start
23:46battling
23:46you're going to
23:47go back to
23:47who you normally
23:48are and how
23:48you ride
23:49so he's got
23:49to be
23:50conscious of
23:50that
23:50gotta be
23:52conscious of
23:52that
23:53got cross
23:54running downhill
23:54and then
23:55down
23:55oh man
23:57you saw
23:57that coming
23:57and look
23:58at that bike
23:58starting to
23:59smoke
23:59and now
24:00he knows
24:00that the
24:01bike's
24:01steaming
24:01he just
24:02gotta look
24:02at it
24:02sometimes
24:03the riders
24:03don't even
24:03realize
24:04it's
24:04underneath
24:04them
24:05as they
24:05ride
24:05it's
24:06falling apart
24:07quickly
24:07for the
24:07series
24:08later
24:08now that
24:10bike's so
24:10hot
24:10sometimes
24:11they don't
24:11like to
24:11start
24:12even with
24:13the electric
24:13start
24:13it did
24:14that time
24:15but it
24:16has come
24:16undone
24:17yeah
24:17it's
24:17come undone
24:18you can
24:19start to
24:19see a few
24:20of those
24:20mistakes
24:20starting to
24:21happen
24:21earlier
24:21he was
24:21starting to
24:22running
24:22these
24:22berms
24:23getting
24:24cross-rutted
24:25now it's
24:25because he's
24:25just really
24:26too aggressive
24:27going down
24:27into these
24:28things and
24:28these potholes
24:29they'll come
24:30up and bite
24:30you and
24:31how long
24:31these ruts
24:32is it's
24:32really easy
24:33for that
24:33to happen
24:34so
24:34these guys
24:35have
24:35kiesan
24:36raced
24:36they took
24:36advantage
24:37of the
24:37situation
24:37they did
24:38absolutely
24:39Shimoda
24:40most right
24:40now
24:41now we
24:43mentioned
24:43that Deegan
24:44doesn't have
24:44a moto
24:44win here
24:45it's a
24:45short
24:46sample
24:46size
24:46it's only
24:47four
24:48motos
24:48over the
24:49last two
24:49seasons
24:49and now
24:50moto
24:51number five
24:51is there
24:52anything
24:52about that
24:53aggressive
24:53style
24:53that maybe
24:54doesn't work
24:55as well
24:56at red
24:56but or is
24:57this just
24:57circumstances
24:58no I mean
24:59I think
25:00he can't ride
25:02the way he's
25:03riding in
25:03the way
25:04running it
25:05down in these
25:06corners
25:06because we
25:06talked about
25:07JT mentioned
25:08that patience
25:09so when you
25:10get frustrated
25:10one thing you
25:11don't have
25:12is patience
25:12that's why
25:13people have
25:13horns on
25:14their car
25:14they hunk
25:15it
25:15and so
25:15you can see
25:16Hayden
25:16really running
25:17down in these
25:17corners
25:18and I think
25:18with him
25:19it's not
25:20that his
25:20riding style
25:21doesn't work
25:21it's just
25:21the way
25:22you have
25:22to ride
25:22this racetrack
25:23and Hayden
25:24when he's
25:24out front
25:24he's comfortable
25:25he doesn't
25:26ride that way
25:27so when he's
25:27not he runs
25:28it in the knees
25:29and red butt
25:29will bite you
25:30if they would
25:31come up and bite
25:32you because
25:33of how long
25:33these ruts
25:33is
25:34so I wouldn't
25:35say anything
25:36his riding style
25:36is the reason
25:37why he hasn't
25:37won here
25:38at this racetrack
25:39but for sure
25:39no matter how
25:40he rides
25:40he can't ride
25:41that way
25:41and normally
25:42he doesn't
25:43so
25:43yeah we're
25:44talking about
25:45at the top
25:45of the show
25:45JT talking
25:46about maybe
25:46slower
25:47into the corner
25:47on this track
25:48ends up being
25:49faster
25:49around the track
25:51yeah and the
25:52reason it is
25:52because the ruts
25:53are so long
25:53so if you run
25:55it in what
25:55Hayden did
25:56right there
25:56that was literally
25:57him just rushing
25:58that downhill
25:59and he hit one bump
26:01and because the ruts
26:01are so long
26:02you get cross-rutted
26:03and he just got
26:04cross-rutted
26:05and there's five
26:05or six ruts
26:06that he has to deal
26:06with and eventually
26:07they end up
26:08catching them out
26:08so you got to be
26:09patient and the whole
26:10thing is not to run
26:11it in there
26:12to bike react
26:13and you slam
26:13into the rutt
26:14and it's not like
26:15other tracks
26:15where you just hop
26:16out a run rut
26:17you got to cross
26:18four or five
26:18ruts
26:19to get out
26:19of there
26:19and that's when
26:20it really comes out
26:21and bites you
26:21so you got to be
26:22patient going in
26:22and then as for
26:24Shimoda here
26:24leading the way
26:25Joe has said
26:27before
26:28he used to take
26:29heat for not being
26:30aggressive early
26:31in the races
26:31and not being a good
26:32starter
26:32and he would say
26:33a lot of it is
26:34he feels like
26:35his asset
26:36is that the track
26:37gets rougher
26:38he can be creative
26:39and find lines
26:40and at the beginning
26:41of the day
26:41the beginning
26:42of the moto
26:42tracks it on his route
26:44and lo and behold
26:45second half
26:45of this moto
26:46this dude
26:47has come to life
26:48yeah
26:48I mean Joe
26:49has been strong
26:50in the second moto
26:51second half of the season
26:52and as I mentioned
26:53last weekend
26:53when he's that second moto
26:54he got in second
26:55Hayden was right there
26:57I mean he didn't lose
26:58any time to Hayden
26:59the problem is with Joe
27:00is that because he's not
27:01aggressive
27:01all the other riders
27:02know he's not aggressive
27:03and so they race him
27:04differently than they do
27:05anybody else
27:06which makes it even more
27:07tougher for him to get
27:08past anybody
27:09so he's figured it out
27:10this moto
27:11will
27:11is his mechanic
27:14there
27:15there's no rest
27:16I was talking to the team
27:18specifically
27:18team manager Lars Lindstrom
27:20over at Honda HRC
27:21about Joe
27:22and his fitness
27:23because Joe's mentioned
27:24to me several times
27:25how he thinks
27:26that that is a strength
27:27for him
27:27especially in motocross
27:29late in motors
27:30when it gets rough
27:31and Lars said to me
27:32he said honestly
27:33I think it's genetic
27:34he said he doesn't
27:36really have a different
27:36program than anybody else
27:38he doesn't necessarily
27:38train hard in that sense
27:40he trains hard
27:41but he said honestly
27:42genetically
27:42he's just gifted
27:44in that area
27:45his fitness is good
27:46he's always strong
27:47throughout the motos
27:48we've said it a lot of times
27:49James you mentioned
27:50how tough
27:51Hinton Deegan is
27:52and Joe knows
27:53that he's going to need that
27:54and that he's qualified
27:55in that area
27:56in order to be able
27:57to challenge Hayden
27:58we saw at the end of moto 2
28:00at Southwick
28:01he was the one
28:01who was able to keep the gap
28:03while everybody else fell back
28:04and now again
28:05in moto 1
28:06here today
28:06in the heat
28:07he's strong again
28:07the mechanic must have been
28:09talking to me
28:10you know
28:10I must have told him
28:11because I'm
28:11hey Jay how are you so good
28:13genetics baby
28:14genetics
28:15Joe's got some good ones
28:18JT
28:18just a follow on
28:20kind of what Will was saying
28:21the mechanic
28:22I think he played a big role
28:24here in this moto
28:25because when Tom Vial
28:26was starting to pull away
28:27every single lap
28:29that Joe came around
28:30it was a similar message
28:31to stay in the fight
28:32stay focused on Vial
28:34because I think they knew
28:35if Joe could stay close enough
28:37he was going to have an opportunity
28:38in the second half of this moto
28:40and he definitely made the most of that
28:42yeah absolutely
28:43and as a rider
28:44you know
28:44when you get passed by a guy
28:46they pull away
28:47looking at Eli
28:49getting that bike ready
28:50for the next race
28:50yeah that bike didn't make it
28:51to the finish of moto 1
28:52yeah the way Tom passed you
28:54in the beginning part
28:54he pulls
28:55you know
28:55those two seconds
28:56about three laps into it
28:57once that gap stabilized
28:59you as a rider know
29:00in your heart
29:01whether you can get back to him
29:02because otherwise
29:02if he would have just kept
29:03pulling that pace
29:04then Joe would have started
29:05routing for a second
29:06so his mechanic told him
29:07stay in that fight
29:08because Tom
29:09that gap stabilized
29:10and that's what ends up working
29:11and Joe was right there for it
29:13took it to full advantage
29:13Deegan is back in 12th now
29:16we're showing Tomac's bike
29:17because remember
29:18that started smoking
29:19that didn't make it
29:20to the finish line
29:21and then we saw Deegan
29:22the championship leader
29:23having the same problem
29:24in this moto
29:26still running though
29:27but all the way back in 12th
29:29so well done for Shimoda
29:31going to make up a ton
29:33of points here
29:33and he's got it now
29:37nearly six seconds on BL
29:39yeah this is a great ride
29:41from Joe
29:41and he's coming up
29:43to that section
29:44where Hayden went down
29:44and looking more
29:45you see guys out the window
29:47going down
29:47it's a huge hole
29:49in the middle part
29:50of that racetrack
29:51until
29:51last lap
29:53Joe really slowed down
29:55to try not to get that bike
29:56to bottom out in it
29:57but it's just easy
29:58to catch them out
29:58especially if you over
29:59ride it
29:59it's a reminder
30:01that the next moto
30:03you keep watching here
30:04on Peacock
30:04or the SMX Video Pass
30:06it will also air live
30:07on NBC in the United States
30:09so if your friends
30:10want to check in
30:10on motocross
30:11let them know
30:11coming up at the top
30:12of the hour
30:13450 Moto2
30:14from Redbud
30:15we're excited to get
30:16that crowd
30:16and that podium
30:17on the live NBC show
30:20nothing quite like it
30:21that ceremony at Redbud
30:23and Joe Shimoda
30:25made some fans
30:26on that podium
30:26a couple years ago
30:27came up to the podium
30:28remember he had
30:29high heart USA
30:31I think written
30:31on his chest
30:33under his jersey
30:34he's going to love it today
30:35when he got in the lead
30:38these fans were cheering him
30:39Joe's us
30:41we all like family out here
30:43but good
30:44we're just happy for Joe
30:45really quiet
30:46goes about his business
30:48the right way
30:48always trying
30:49he had the supercross
30:50where he had a broken finger
30:52kept going out there
30:53broken finger by pit board
30:54I mean how's that happen
30:55but Joe's out here fighting
30:57and he's got to love it
30:59so these crowds
31:00they recognize that
31:00they love it
31:01when they see a guy out there
31:02you know fight through that
31:04and then we get a victory
31:05if he can hold on
31:05and as I've heard many people
31:07who've worked with Shimoda
31:08before
31:08have said
31:09like Adam C. Cerullo
31:11used to train with him
31:12the leader in the
31:13unintentional comedy scale
31:14Joe's a great time
31:15to hang out with
31:16not even sure
31:17sometimes if some of the
31:18things he said
31:18are on purpose
31:19to make people laugh
31:20but he's definitely fun
31:21to hang out with
31:22Fiala's second
31:23shout out to Levi Kitchen
31:25from way back
31:26to third
31:2713th on lap one
31:29and even more passing
31:31if you look all the way back
31:33in 10th
31:33Garrett Marchbanks
31:34started in 34th
31:36Marchbanks has now passed
31:38100 riders
31:40so far this year
31:41so the stars have not been there
31:43for a couple of these
31:44Monster Pro Circuit
31:45Kawasaki riders
31:46but boy have they been strong
31:49yeah definitely
31:50it's one of those stats
31:51that you don't know
31:52it's a good thing or bad thing
31:53you know
31:54yeah
31:54we know you got the pace
31:56but I mean dude
31:57you pass a lot of guys
31:59nonetheless it's good to see
32:00him but I'm with you
32:01I'm impressed by this ride
32:03by Levi
32:03it almost looks like it was
32:05in that second moto
32:05where he was able to regroup
32:07last weekend
32:07and keep fighting
32:08the beginning part of that
32:10second moto
32:10this is the Levi
32:11we like to see
32:12love this
32:13and again it's the riders
32:17that are up there
32:18in the points
32:19that are taking advantage
32:21of Deegan's misfortune
32:23in this one
32:23to claw some back
32:24so you have Vial
32:25who was third
32:26of the championship
32:27second in this moto
32:28we check back in with him
32:29a lot of rumors
32:31about Vial
32:31getting an offer
32:32from Honda's MXGP team
32:34to potentially go back
32:35to Europe
32:35I've heard he has not
32:36signed that
32:37and then he put
32:38on his social media
32:39this week
32:40looking forward to
32:41Redbud
32:41this year
32:43and next year
32:44on a 450
32:44so he's indicating
32:46that he might not
32:47be going back
32:48he has to race
32:49a 450
32:49in Supercross
32:50next year
32:51because he won
32:52two 250 Supercross titles
32:54we presume
32:55if he did that
32:55he'd probably race
32:56450 in motocross
32:57as well
32:57KTM has offered
32:59for him to return
33:00on a 450
33:01next year
33:02so we'll see
33:02what direction
33:03Vial goes
33:05nothing signed yet
33:06but hey
33:08nothing over yet
33:09Deegan had this
33:11gigantic point lead
33:12but today's showing
33:13anything can happen
33:15that's why we go racing
33:16anything can happen
33:17and speaking of back
33:18going back
33:19if he looks back
33:19he's going to see
33:20Levi
33:21really?
33:22all over him
33:23Levi's in the shot
33:24so even in second place
33:25it's not over
33:27you're going to see
33:27Levi pop in the seat
33:28oh yeah
33:29what has happened
33:31to Vial
33:31who had checked out
33:33the first 10 minutes
33:33of this moto
33:34you are right James
33:35Kitchin on the attack
33:37yeah I wouldn't even say
33:38there's something
33:38happening to Tom
33:40just how good
33:41Levi's rotting right now
33:42he's found the flow
33:43the kitchen is open
33:45it's serving
33:46yeah Vial running at 214
33:49that's not actually
33:50that bad of a lap
33:50it was actually quicker
33:51than Shimoda
33:52it's just
33:54Kitchin ran a 211
33:57Kitchin just ran
33:58his best lap
33:59of the moto
33:59six seconds faster
34:02than Tom Vial
34:03and he's coming
34:04yeah
34:05I can't tell
34:07if that was a mistake
34:08or on purpose
34:08both
34:0947 is on fire
34:12the kitchen's on fire
34:15we call it fire marshal
34:16let's keep him open
34:17yeah Levi's just got
34:20a good flow
34:20and he's making up
34:21a lot of time
34:21right before that
34:22finish line
34:23and you know
34:23as a rider
34:24when you're confident
34:24Levi would have never
34:25went out to that line
34:26but he's confident
34:27that he has the pace
34:28of able to catch him
34:29just start making him
34:30nervous
34:30this is a good line
34:31for him as well
34:32he made up so much ground
34:35they almost came together
34:36in that corner
34:37Kitchin can go anywhere
34:39he wants right now
34:40Levi what they serving
34:42French baguette
34:43is up in here
34:44so
34:44yeah
34:45get up in there
34:46and again
34:49I see some of the lines
34:51Kitchin's taking
34:52and I'm like
34:52what are you doing out there
34:53but then it actually works out
34:54you think it's a mistake
34:56and it actually works out
34:57he's got the flow
34:58right now on the outside
34:59he's got him right here
35:00the same place that
35:01Don Joe got him
35:02now Levi's got to get
35:03out of this corner
35:03and cut him off
35:04there you go
35:04you said about
35:0720 minutes ago
35:07he passed Deegan
35:08back in that section
35:10and since then
35:12he has unlocked something
35:13yeah Levi's
35:14the confidence
35:15we talk every weekend
35:16and you hear these guys
35:17they're trying to find
35:17that little bit of confidence
35:19and who knows
35:20him
35:21he doesn't know
35:21what happened to Hayden
35:22Hayden got around him
35:23he passed him back
35:24and ever since then
35:25the kitchen has been
35:26wide open on fire
35:27and you got to think
35:29if you had a few more laps
35:30Joe time might be in trouble
