00:00All right, it's your girl Lori Mack here from 105 When the Bounce and I'm in the presence of a
00:04creative Detroit filmmaker making a deep impact in the city. I'd like to welcome Daryl, I'm sorry,
00:11Daryl Arnold. How you doing? Welcome. I'm doing pretty good. It's your boy. Yeah. Now you're doing
00:19big things and I just want to know we're going to start off with the film. Now you got a film
00:23that's premiering and on the 19th at the Bel Air Cinema. That's right. Tell me a little bit about
00:29that. All right, cool. Again, y'all heard her say my name, Daryl Arnold, i.e. D to Don, your boy.
00:38So this film, Play the Field, this is my first film, not the first film I've been involved with,
00:43but more so the first one that I've actually starred in, produced, executive produced,
00:49and came up with the storyline. So I'm really excited about this when I had to call. I made a
00:55few calls just off relationships to get the people I wanted to play these roles. So it's a real good
01:03movie. And the film, the premiere, it's going to be nothing short of amazing. I'm not sure if you
01:08have seen me on the red carpet, but if you have, you already know I do. So you said D to Don, I'm like,
01:14oh, it clicked. It clicked. Look, you've been doing big things in the city. And you got a couple
01:20of your castmates in here. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Okay, yeah, introduce yourself. Yeah, so we're
01:24going to start with Marietta Elliott. And real quick, before y'all talk to her, the role that
01:30she played in this movie, she bodied her character, okay? Like meaning she's normally the wholesome
01:38wife. She's the good girl. You know, she's nice, polite. But this role, that's not her. All right?
01:47That's not her. She the opposite. She got so much, for lack of better words, just so much.
01:54I'm gonna just say flavor. We're gonna keep it. She got so much flavor in this. You know,
02:00some people gonna agree with her. Some people not. But she real dope.
02:04That's how you know you're doing something. You need a little bit from both sides. I like
02:07that. Well, welcome. Thank you. So my name is Marietta Elliott. I was so excited about
02:13this role. The character is Candace. I was about to ask you, what's her name? And Candace
02:19is like super spicy. Okay. Like the spice of life. So she's a straight shooter. Like Don
02:26said, I'm normally cast in the wife role, the wholesome roles, police detective, sergeant,
02:31things like that. So this gave me a little to bring out the like she she's very animated.
02:37You know, she talks with her head, everything. She bodies everything she says. And she's like
02:42I said, she's direct. She's not going to cut corners. She just tells you how it is. So
02:46I love. Okay, so when he presented this to you. One, you said it was spicy. Did you feel
02:52like this related to your personal? I think everybody has a little spice. Yes. That you
02:56know, we all have it. And we have to pull it out. Especially being from Detroit. I feel
03:00like Detroit women. We're multifaceted. So we could kind of maneuver in different lanes.
03:05And it's good to be. Just like Candace. It's good to be. Yeah. You got to be a jack of
03:09all trades. That's how you get out here. Absolutely. And I can see that. This was just smiling.
03:13Just bubbly, bright personality. I just know. Absolutely. I'm going to love this movie because
03:17you're over here spicy. It's fire. I'm telling you. Everybody's going to love it. And it's
03:22something to me that transcends age. So from young to old, people will love it. Okay. Relatable
03:27all around. I love that. And you got another one in the building. Yeah. So I'll tell you
03:32real quick. Okay. Look, this young busking right here now. When we talk about a leader
03:35of a football team. Okay. He got go. First off, he can play for real. He got game for
03:40real. Not just in the movie. Not just in the movie. It's real deal. Not just in the movie.
03:44So what he's doing, he's representing the entire organization. Okay. Right. The Detroit
03:48City Lions. And Devon, his dad, he's doing really big things in the community. So when I get
03:54somebody like this to say, hey, yeah, you can use my resources. You can do this. You
03:59can do that. I trust you. You, my guy. I'm appreciative of that. And we were able to get
04:04the kids to be involved in a movie. But I want you to talk. There it is. Yeah. Yes. Please
04:10tell me how you feel about your role in the movie. How do you feel being a part of it?
04:13My name is Kayden Buskin. And I feel like...
04:23Humbled. Honored. Yeah. Yeah. Excited. Look, I know. It's a big deal. Yeah.
04:32There's a lot of good things to do. I mean, it's just... And in this movie, do you play the lead,
04:37like the captain? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So then what does it feel like to do it in the movie,
04:44to be on a big screen? It feels normal because... Really? Okay. Because I have to lead my team.
04:51Which you normally do on a day-to-day basis. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So it's almost just like you're just
04:55doing what you love to do, but in front of a big screen. That's good. Would you do another movie?
04:59Would you do more movies? Yes. Oh, yeah. I love that. I'm excited. So you said this movie all circled
05:05around different organizations here in Detroit, right? That's doing different things in the
05:08community? Well, pretty much around this organization, Detroit City Lions. Okay. Yeah.
05:13Tell us about it. Yeah. So to be able to involve the kids, because it's about a guy named Phil. Okay.
05:20This guy, he has some infidelity issues and he's trying to change his life around. So his best
05:27friends say, hey, I want you to coach a little league football, right? Get you away from all these
05:32women. But if you know anything about the little league community, right? When you pull up to a
05:38little league football field, boom, it's nothing but mothers, right? All women. So this guy feel he's
05:45trying his best to stay committed to his wife. And it also has a spiritual message to it as well. So
05:50he's trying his best to stay committed to his wife, faced with all these different challenges.
05:55And it's typical drama in the little league community. But at the same time, the spiritual
06:03aspect of it, it shows you a whole bunch of different things to have you looking within.
06:08So everybody's going to be able to relate to these types of stories. Like one story here,
06:12one conversation here, you will be able to relate to it. So I love that. So you've been doing
06:18filmmaking for a little while now. How long have you been doing it? How long have you been making?
06:22Well, it's not your first film. I remember you told me that earlier. How many different
06:26projects have you been working on? So I've probably been in about 15 movies.
06:30Right. Because you've been in and also. Yeah, I've been in quite a few movies. But we're talking
06:34about producing. Yes. This is actually my fourth film. Oh, wow. Either producing or executive
06:39producing. Okay. But yeah, this is just the first one that I did all three. Produce, executive
06:43produce, starring in, all that kind of stuff. So. That had to be exhausting. Yeah, yeah. Exhausting,
06:48stressful. And I said to myself, hey, I'll never, ever star in a movie that I produce. I'll
06:54never do it again. Right. Because it's so much responsibility. I can only imagine when
06:58you say that. Yeah. Being an actor. Yeah. It was fun. All you got to do is know your
07:02lines. Know your lines. Go out there, smile. Know your lines. But being a producer and
07:07actor, you got to know your lines or such and such is late. So now we got to wait or such
07:12and such battery died and now we can't do it. It's all sorts of challenges that come your
07:16way. Or the location, we can't get to it. Somebody caught a flat and now you stressing. Oh, yeah.
07:22So now you stressing, trying to remember your lines and now you got to improvise. But I think
07:28the beauty of it is just is having a great team. So it was a lot of people that helped out with
07:33this project and a lot of people that did more than what their title actually says. For instance,
07:39Brianna, the writer. She was writer, associate producer, made flyers. She did everything. And
07:47she currently does a lot, you know, to help and support the project. So when you get good
07:51people, you got to learn how to how to how to treat them right. Yeah, I know that's right.
07:55That's hard to come by. Uh huh. I love that. So with all that, I know that it was probably
08:00some crazy moments while making this this this production. Tell me, did you have any moments
08:05for you? Just like, yeah. When did you know? He was like, this is my last time. First and
08:09last. I'm gonna do this. All these roles. Yeah, you know, um, so this was a huge cast. So
08:17and we're not even talking about. You know, we got maybe 10 people that were actually significant
08:24in the movie. And that's big itself. Yeah. So then, you know, imagine a whole football team,
08:30cheerleaders, parents, and divine. He would say to his parents, you know, all the parents
08:36involved. Hey, you say you want to be in a movie. This is what it takes. Oh, it's not
08:41you just show up and shoot your scene and go. Right, right. You'd be sitting on set for
08:46six hours. And not necessarily saying, you know, one particular actor, because we do have
08:51a call time. We stuck to that. And we did pretty good with that. But when you're talking about
08:54a big production outside with the football team, right, that was huge. But again, you
09:00know, with a cast this big, and everybody isn't necessarily we didn't all grow up together,
09:07right? Right. So this isn't my friend, meaning I can't just talk to you a certain kind of
09:10way. Now my friend, I can cut into him a different way. And my man, right. X, Y, and X, Y, and
09:15Z. But now this person, it's a certain level of professionalism you got to have, right?
09:19Yeah. And patience. And patience. So when you're dealing with 10 different people, 10 different
09:24attitudes, 10 different mindsets, and you're actually the producer. So it's not like you
09:29can say, you know what, I'm mad at this person. No, you're out of here. We're on set right
09:33now. And you know, it's a everybody's getting paid daily. So if something breaks in one day,
09:37and you got to miss a day, that costs a lot of money. Yes, it do. But by the grace of God,
09:43I think it all worked out. And the movie came together. Hey, I'm excited. I'm excited too.
09:48So the premiere is happening July 19th at the Bel Air Cinema. Bel Air. Okay, so it's big
09:55things happening. It's gonna be like a red carpet type of feel for the premiere. How
09:59we looking on the 19th? Listen, red carpet. Okay. Put that, put that on. Put that on.
10:07Put that thing on. Put that on. Yeah. We all come out of red carpet. It's gonna be
10:11cameras everywhere. Okay. It's gonna be a dope event. It's gonna be a dope event. The movie,
10:16the red carpet, and I like to shut it down. You know, everything, I treat everything like a red
10:21carpet affair. So this gonna be kind of, it's gonna be fun. And you know, just it's a lot of
10:26pressure, you know, when you're doing something like this. Oh, yeah. So the movie's done. So I'm
10:33past that part. But it's always like that was the hardest part. It's always a new level of pressure
10:38when it comes to it. Okay, now you got the premiere and you got to make sure this is right. The sound
10:42is right. And everybody shows up and the security and everything. But hey, it's like it's worth it.
10:49It's a part of the project part of the process. And yet a premiere. I know a lot of people be at
10:53the Bel Air. But hey, that's the place. Yeah. Hey, look, that's the place to be. Yeah, that's the
10:58place, man. Now if you if you had to name one of your favorite movies, out of all the ones you've
11:03starred in, produced, made, which one is your favorite? Do you or is this one your favorite?
11:08Because it was so hard. See, you know what? Um, I can easily be biased and say is this one, right?
11:15It's me is me is me. I can easily say it was this one. Um, I don't necessarily have a favorite.
11:21But if I can do one again. I would say this one for one play the field. Yes. And I got a new movie
11:29that's coming out that I started in called Can't Have It All. Okay. Yeah. And what's good? Like,
11:35I mean, the list go on. Like, I can't really just pick one. Okay, okay. I always have to ask that
11:39question because I always love the answer from that. And then I know, with you acting, acting,
11:46what would you see yourself in five years? Do you see yourself still working with D to Don?
11:52Would you do more video? Would you do more movies with this type of character? Let me say it like that.
11:56I definitely would. I definitely hope that I have an opportunity to continue working with D to Don.
12:01He's a professional. Um, his projects are interesting. You know, you always want to be
12:09part of something that you feel like is going to do well. So I feel like the projects I've been
12:13involved with are going to do well, but five years from now, definitely still acting, but also in my
12:18producing, you know, bag as well. You're going to be dropping a movie soon. Absolutely. Absolutely.
12:23So I'm excited to see this film. And then once it drops, once it premieres, where can they watch it?
12:28Yep. So after the premiere, um, it's probably going to go straight to Vimeo for starters.
12:33Okay. That's a good platform. Yeah. We're going to go to Vimeo for starters until it drops on Amazon
12:37prime. Um, then to be, that's what we're doing with this one. Oh, wow. So it's going to be,
12:42you're going to be able to get a couple of different places. Oh yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
12:45And can we expect some more movies from you? Absolutely. So again, um, I got another movie,
12:51Mr. Tomorrow, Mr. Tomorrow that you're working on. Yeah. So that's a movie that I, um,
12:56I produced that one as well. Okay. That one will be coming out right in September. And Marietta,
13:00she's in that one as well. Oh, yeah. Yes. Now I know you can't get that one away too much,
13:05but what's, can I, can we know the character that she plays in this one or we got to wait?
13:09Well, you can know a little bit, but she plays a mother in that one. Right. But it's, uh,
13:15it's opposite of what she normally plays. So in that one, she's actually a bad mom, right?
13:20See, I'm a mom of four girls. Okay. Mama of a boy in this one. But I'm like,
13:25that mother that you like, come on now, get it together. You know, she needs a little bit of
13:29support. Oh, I got to see that. Yeah. Yeah. And that one is, and that one's different. You know,
13:33a lot of people do dramas like this one here, play the field. It's a drama, but Mr. Tomorrow,
13:38that's a, that's a thriller and it's about a serial killer. Okay. Yeah. And I'll give you,
13:43I'll give you the synopsis. It's a serial killer. He's driving, not Uber, but Zuner.
13:48He's driving a Zuner car through the city and he's, uh, I like that. Yeah. Yeah. He's taking
13:53you on a ride with him. He's taking you on a roller coaster with him. Okay. Yeah. I'm not
13:59going to let you give it all away, but that sounds dope. I'm actually really excited to see that one
14:02just as much. I'm excited to see this one. Oh yeah. Okay. So play the field. Yes. Yes.
14:06Premiere happened in July 19th at the Bel Air cinema. You got to make sure you go there. Can
14:11they still get tickets? Absolutely. Tickets at, uh, Don films dot. I actually
14:18give me a couple of seconds. I want to make sure I get that right. However, I do have the
14:22hard copy tickets. Okay. And if you're following me at, uh, D to Don three, one, three, D D A
14:27D O N three, one, three on Instagram, you type in D to Don on Facebook. You'll catch me there
14:32as well. But there is a link that you can actually physically, well, digitally go buy tickets.
14:40Okay. I want to make sure I get that right. But it is July 19th starting at six 30. Um,
14:44that's the red carpet. And like he just told you it's about to be fantastic. So people can
14:49come dress to the nine, you know, um, really to the T yes, absolutely. So that's going to
14:55be exciting. And the movie I believe starts around eight o'clock. Okay. You guys go shut
14:59out your social so we can find you. So on IG only one Marietta. Okay. And on Facebook Marietta
15:05Elliott. Okay. Exciting. I'm so excited. I just love the personalities. I always, what I admire
15:10most about both of you is that for one, you do it all. And if a two, you, you know how
15:15to switch it up, you don't just do one role and you just act the same in every role that
15:18makes sense. Like you got the same demeanor. I love that. I mean, cause you know, in this
15:22industry, it's easy to get typecast, particularly, particularly if you do something that people
15:27feel is you, you did it well, then everybody wants you for that particular role. So I was
15:33glad that he challenged me in this way. Absolutely. I can't wait. Now, you know, you got
15:38shout out your socials because what organization are we doing up in this movie? Come on now.
15:43Tell us about it. Yeah. Jump on over there. Good. I step in. Nice to meet you. Dr. Devon
15:48Buskin. I'm the co-founder of Detroit City Lions Youth Club. All right. We service about
15:5315,000 kids and families. Not just a football organization. Like, like my man, I said, just
16:00to have an opportunity to showcase young people was huge. When he came to me with the opportunity,
16:07him coaching with us, him coaching with us over at Detroit City Lions, he came to us
16:13with a concept. And we're, we're a community grass rooted organization where not only do
16:17we support the kids, but we also support the families and the coaches of their, their, their
16:21endeavors, if they're business entrepreneurs, we support them that we allow them to make,
16:25you know, to, to build their brands with the organization.
16:27So when he came with this opportunity, um, it was huge. Um, for one, like he said, to have the kids
16:33exposed to camp, not just the cameras, um, but the, but, but the, the, the personalities, people
16:39that look like them, talk like them that are from neighborhoods that they grew up in to interact
16:43and engage with them, to be able to show that those are true career pathways. Yes. That's what
16:48our organization supports. We don't just do sports. We do basketball, soccer, robotics, chess.
16:53We got theater, arts, dance, culture, culinary arts, uh, STEM, robotics, coding, you name it.
16:59Um, we support that whole entire family household, um, holistically. So to be able to, to, to have an
17:06opportunity to allow these young people to be involved, um, it shows that they can do it.
17:12Yes. Folks care about them. They want to, they want to, you know, when he said, Hey, can we, can we
17:16shoot at the field? Can we shoot with the kids and the families? Right. Absolutely. That's what it's
17:20for, you know, to be able to have a movie homegrown in Detroit, in a neighborhood that's supporting
17:25family, community, kids, and people that really care. Like when he said professionalism, like
17:30the amount of professionalism that I've saw, um, that went in from the beginning to the middle,
17:35to the end, to now, and not seeing it on the red carpet and delivering it. Um, it's not a way that
17:40you're not going to support this movie or anything that he does or anybody that's involved in anything
17:44he does. Um, he's a community guy. He volunteers nonstop to coach, um, mentors. Um, so it's bigger
17:51than just the, the, the movie and the money for him is more or less to put his city on.
17:54So to be able to collaborate with a brother like that, um, those are the people that we, we, we build
18:00partnerships and relationships with. I know that's right. So we were extremely excited to do it.
18:04Yes. And excited to do more. We can't wait. The parents are excited. The kids are coming.
18:10It's going to be, it's going to be a thing. It's going to be huge. Yes. Bring it on in. You know,
18:15God's working in different ways. And it's just a way to show that, especially in the city of Detroit,
18:20man, we can collaborate. One of the blackest cities still in America. So why not show that we can work
18:25community, family, friends, regardless, put everything to the side and showcase our talents
18:31together in a holistic collaborative way. So to be able to do that and be a part of that,
18:35we got us back forever. So we're going to make sure that this does the numbers that it's supposed
18:39to do to the neighborhood, the family, the community, the parents are behind it. They
18:42wait and they can't wait to get the tickets and be at the red carpet. So it's a pleasure,
18:45man. Thanks again. My man. Appreciate you. Thank you so much. Yes. I'm excited. Yes.
18:52So you already know play the fields. Okay. Premiere drop in July 19th at the Bel Air
18:56luxury theater. No cinema. They're going to, they're going to beat me up if I say theater.
19:00They hate that. And real quick too. We got, uh, we got our writer of the film, Brianna here.
19:06Come on over and say a little something, something.
19:10I know, I know we got on Brianna nerves, uh, when we were working on this film pretty much.
19:16Oh my goodness. Look, she's doing, she coming with a smile. Go ahead.
19:18No, no, no. It was fun. Um, I enjoy seeing everything come to life. Okay. So that was a
19:24really good eye opening experience for me. Like seeing the characters, like she talked about Candace
19:28character, one of my favorite characters in the film. And I feel like, um, yeah,
19:33the characters really came to life. So I'm so excited to see it on screen.
19:37I love that. And I really hope everybody, um, is able to connect to the movie and get the messages
19:42behind it. Like Don spoke of spiritual message in there, but it's also, you know, just, you know,
19:47every day kind of, you know, it kind of shows a guy who is kind of battling some things,
19:52but at the same time, it's like he want to change, but he constantly is having like, you know,
19:58temptations and things like that. But you know, so I'm excited for everyone to see it and I really
20:03hope they enjoy it. Now, were you exhausted after writing and doing all of this? No, I love doing
20:10this. Really? Okay. How long have you been doing writing? I started out, I act too, but I started out
20:15acting, but I write, um, and it's like a passion for me. So I'm never tired like of doing it. This is
20:22something that I, you know, hope to one day do completely full time. Yeah. Forever. I know that's
20:27right. Yeah. I really, I really enjoyed myself. Yeah. And Brianna, she's so dope. She's, um,
20:32I got a series called the artists. Okay. She actually wrote that. And yeah,
20:38we're starting pre-production for that right after this. And y'all gonna really like that.
20:41And where is that at? Where can we find that? That's gonna, we're gonna go through the same
20:46process, but even with that one, we're gonna try to shop that one to something even bigger. Okay.
20:50Um, after the premiere with that one. So I love that. See, the best thing about when you all connect
20:56is that you create a family, you know what I'm saying? That's what I see here. Like I see a whole
21:00group of people that love and nurture it, just cherish each other. And that makes beautiful work,
21:05like artwork. And with that, it's gonna grow and grow and you're gonna keep more, add people to your team.
21:10You know what I'm saying? And that's dope. I love that. So shout out to you. Shout out to you for
21:14creating this and having that open space for people, everybody to come to. I really love that.
21:20Absolutely. Absolutely. And, uh, I appreciate everybody. Brianna, I can call her. Hey,
21:26Bri, I need you to do this. She's with it. Hey, Marietta, I got a role for you. She just count me in,
21:32let me know when. Everything I've asked Devon for, he's been, just let me know. You know, it's easy.
21:39So when you a good person, you do good things and you a stand up person, right? Yeah. You know,
21:44good stuff happened for you. So, uh, I feel like I'm blessed to have, and I call these people family,
