Mark Dondero explains why he thinks Pop Douglas will emerge as a top target for Drake Maye this season.

00:12I think Josh McDaniels isn't going to be the ultimate game changer,

00:16but I think he could have a significant impact if it's done right.

00:21And I'll even leave a lot of the developmental stuff to Mike Vrabel,

00:26but if Josh McDaniels can put not just Drake May

00:34but some of the other offensive pieces around him,

00:36I think that's what you're talking about.

00:38Can he help get the most out of the other offensive pieces around Drake May

00:44to help Drake May look?

00:46It doesn't even have to be a direct impact on Drake May.

00:51It could be almost an indirect impact on Drake May

00:53because he's getting the pieces around him to elevate their games.

00:59I mean, why the hell would I not think that Pop Douglas

01:01is going to have a great year?

01:07He has good things have happened

01:09when Pop Douglas is near the football or gets the football

01:14with all this crap that has been surrounding the Patriots

01:17offensively over the last few years.

01:19He's still found a way to be a beacon of hope, of light

01:24for the Patriots, even if it's a small one.

01:28If they've given him the ball.

01:30Now, sometimes they don't give him the ball enough,

01:32which I've been mystified by.

01:35But when they've tried to commit to giving him the ball,

01:37usually good things happen.

01:39And then you talk about the track record of McDaniels.

01:42Welker, I mean, even Brown, Troy Brown.

01:44You can go way back if you want to talk about Troy Brown.

01:46But Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, even Jacoby Myers.

01:52You're talking about guys that have had success

01:54in the slot for the Patriots.

01:59Why can't this kid who has already had some success

02:02have success with that guy calling the shots?

02:04I think it's an easy choice.

02:06It's an easy call.

02:08And that is why I am just sky high on Pop Douglas.

02:13he's not being discussed enough or he's flying under the radar.

03:42they need players like that,

03:44where you just feel like whenever they're around the ball,

03:47good things happen.

03:50just felt like good things happen when that guy is near the baseball.

03:54And that's where they need to be.

03:55And I think that's,

03:58I think there's a real good chance they get there.

04:47that has given Drake May

04:50everything he needs to succeed.

04:56maybe the final piece would be a true

05:01but I'm going to give

05:02Stephon Diggs the benefit of the doubt,

05:04even though I have my reservations.

05:06I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt

05:08and say that he'll be enough of a number one

05:10where a guy like Douglas can emerge,

05:13where other players can emerge,

05:16and Drake May will have enough support.

05:21So if you're talking about an improved offensive line,

05:24Vrabel, McDaniels,

05:25better weapons,

05:26draft capital,

05:28okay,

05:28they've drafted Polk in the second round,

05:30they've drafted Kyle Williams in the third round,

05:32they've drafted Will Campbell

05:33in the first round,

05:34to protect Drake May's blind side.

05:36They drafted Travion Henderson in the second round.

05:40They've invested.

05:43I'm not even bringing up Matt Collins.

05:46Okay,

05:46we all know about Diggs.

05:49They've invested in a guy like Morgan Moses.

05:51I mean,

05:52they've invested in the offense.

05:54They're getting another guy back

05:55who's a first round pick

05:56along the offensive line

05:57in Cole Strange.

06:00They've signed the center Bradbury.

06:02I mean,

06:02they've invested.

06:03If it doesn't work now,

06:05it's not going to work.

06:07It has to work now.

06:08Drake May has the support.

06:10Does he have the support

06:11that he'll need to win a Super Bowl?

06:15He probably doesn't have that level of support.

06:19what the Chiefs have done.

06:20That level of support isn't there.

06:21But he has enough support

06:24between coaching and players

06:26to prove that he belongs

06:28and that he can be a star in this league.

06:31And if he's good enough,

06:32he'll elevate some guys

06:33and he'll still be even better

06:34than he was last year

06:36and then some.

06:37He has enough support to do that.

06:39to prove that he has arrived.

06:42He has that support.

06:44Not to win a Super Bowl.

06:46They are not good enough for that.

06:47They don't have the weapons,

06:49the number one type of receiver

06:51that you need,

06:51the dominant,

06:52you know,

06:53the guy,

06:53the weapon that keeps

06:54defensive coordinators

06:55up at night.

06:56They don't have that.

06:57But they have enough

06:58for Drake May

07:00to prove that he has arrived

07:02and he is their guy.

07:04And that he's not going to regress

07:06and that this isn't Mac Jones

07:11that he's their guy this year
