We went out into Manchester to ask people on the street about the British high street, and what the closure of places such as River Island means for the future.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Houston Betts. Today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking people about high streets.
00:06This is particularly related to the fact that River Island is shutting its doors and now we're going to try and look ahead to the future.
00:12A lot of big chain stores have sort of shut up recently, partially due to the influx of online shopping, partially due to the cost of living.
00:21We want to know what people think that our high streets will look like in five years.
00:25I think it would be nice to have a lot more like smaller businesses or like littler shops, especially in somewhere like Manchester.
00:31I think a lot of commercial properties are being kind of getting that planning commission at the moment to become residential.
00:38And I do think high streets are important, like online shopping is fun and it's, you know, very convenient if you do a nine to five to just, you know, after work that day do it rather than thinking about rushing onto the shops.
00:49Yeah, I do think like big ones are probably less and less are going to be about because it is just so much easier to just do it online than it is to be here.
00:56I do think that's still inside.
00:58True.
01:00It's definitely just outside, OK?
01:03I will never even check it out.
01:06I will never be .
01:08You do think a lot of people should be leaning high?
01:12It's right, there is.
01:13We do think that's right.
01:14We've got the win that technology that you need on here, dude.
01:15Okay, perfect.
01:16So, let's go about a little bit of course.
01:17It's really recommend it.
01:19Go ahead, let's just watch it.
01:20But this is good.
01:21We've got thełby pega.
01:22Then we're got to rules and rules.
