People on the street: How do people in Manchester stay safe?

We went out into Manchester to ask people in the street how they stay safe when out and about.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Houston Betts and today I'm out on the

00:03streets of Manchester asking people about safety, particularly at night. Here in Manchester it's a

00:08wonderful place with a really welcoming community but as with every place there are a few areas

00:12where you might not want to go if it's dark or if you're alone. We want to know whether people

00:16would feel comfortable firstly walking around Manchester alone at night and secondly where

00:20they would want to avoid. I think there's an air of safety around your group size. There's a lot of

00:26stigma around Manchester being unsafe but we've lived here all our lives I personally don't feel

00:31that unsafe. I mean I've been on a few nights out here and I've never really felt unsafe in

00:37Manchester and I've had some fun experiences where I've needed people to point directions out to me

00:42because I'm completely lost. But are you ever alone? I have been on some occasions walking back to a

00:48hotel on my own before. Yeah I feel like we both go to university so you go to Nottingham and I go to

00:52Liverpool and I feel more unsafe in Liverpool than Manchester. Yeah. Maybe because I've grown up there

00:57I know quite well.
