People on the street: Which Manchester club has the brightest future?

We went out into Manchester following the Manchester derby to ask people on the street their view on which of the teams would be in the best position five years from now.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World, my name's Theo Hewson-Betts and today I'm out on the streets

00:03of Manchester asking people about Manchester City and Manchester United and that's because

00:07on the weekend just gone the two teams played out a startlingly dull derby game, one of the more

00:11boring of recent times and really the reason for that is there's not much for either team to play

00:15for. Sure Manchester City are entrenched in a battle for Europe but really they should be able

00:20to attain that fairly fairly easily. Manchester United are sort of languishing in mid-table and

00:25so the question that we're asking today is which of these two teams do we expect to be better off

00:29in five years time? Now for City there's perhaps more unknowns there, Pep Guardiola probably won't

00:34be around that long and it's yet to be seen how hard that rebuild is going to be but the drop-off

00:39this year has been pretty concerning. For Manchester United they've been struggling for a good couple

00:44of years now really since Sir Alex Ferguson left and although there's optimism around Ruben Amorim

00:48and his appointment it's not started off particularly well. There are big plans with

00:52the new stadium so we're genuinely interested to see which of these two clubs people think will be

00:57better. Well I'm a United fan so I'm gonna say Man United. I think if City get hit with the charges

01:04then definitely United. I think it's a tough assessment with how far that United have dropped

01:10in terms of City because obviously we've fallen a bit further. I think they'll be just a little

01:15bit better than us. I'm sure they've got a much better plan because Pep Guardiola's

01:20only got two seasons left and Ruben Amorim it looks like he's going to be staying for a bit longer

01:26and the future's a bit more clearer for United in terms of from the fans point of view.

01:32We know who we've got, we know the structure, we know we've got a stadium being built

01:36so it looks like we've got a bit of a stronger base however right now City are in a much much

01:42higher position than United in every single way. I mean I'm optimistic about Amorim to a certain

01:47extent but we've not really seen much progress over the sort of short time he's had.

01:54I mean I think the charges will definitely help but I don't know if they'll get relegated.

02:00Manchester City are going to be, you know as a United fan it's hard to say but I think City

02:04will be in a better place than us but it's sometimes never about five years, sometimes

02:10about 10 years. Restructures happen and for a big team like United we'll always come back.

02:15I think five years consistently qualifying in the Champions League I'd be happy with.

02:20Awesome, again Man City where are they in five years time? Five years, hopefully Leeds too.

02:26I can confidently say that in 10 years time Man United will be back on top again and it's

02:33annoying to say because you want it to be now but at the end of the day like I said big teams

02:39always come back up, they'll rise to the top again. City are a big team. So there we have it,

02:45lots of unknowns for both Manchester clubs. The one thing that we can really hope for as a City

02:49is that Manchester will still be the footballing powerhouse that it is now. So that's all we've got,
