00:01Tonight on the House Hunters.
00:04We are on the road.
00:06New parents Billy and Bronte need to upsize.
00:10Oh, it's big.
00:12But with wildly different tastes.
00:14It gives me the .
00:16Will they ever agree on the ride home?
00:18Oh, no.
00:30You would be lost without me, though.
00:33You're pretty radic.
00:34You're pretty crazy.
00:35Hey, my name's Billy.
00:37I'm Bronte, and we are on the House Hunters in the Sutherland Shire.
00:41We met at work, actually.
00:43Bronte's actually my boss in every aspect of life.
00:47What?
00:48I don't know.
00:49Fell in love at work.
00:51We had one night with a few too many red wines.
00:55The rest was history.
00:57When we first started dating, Billy told me that his worst nightmare was to marry a girl,
01:03have a kid, and just live in the Sutherland Shire.
01:06And Billy is literally living out his worst nightmare.
01:10I'm quite enjoying it, to be fair.
01:12Hi.
01:13Thank you, Joey.
01:14Joey's obviously now our biggest priority.
01:17Thinking about getting a new house, just thinking about space for her.
01:21We've definitely outgrown our apartment.
01:24I feel like we've got enough antiques in the house already, Bill.
01:31We are definitely opposite.
01:33Billy loves vintage.
01:35He loves antiques.
01:37Where are we going to put that?
01:40I just love new, fresh, clean.
01:44Grey couch, shells on the wall.
01:47Live, laugh, love, big above the door.
01:49You ready?
01:50Oh!
01:51Please stop.
01:52Who's a dickhead?
01:53So, what's top of the wishlist for this conflicted couple?
01:54A patch of grass for Bowie to play would be amazing.
01:55And I would love a good shower or a really beautiful bathroom.
02:11And maybe already quite modern would be ideal for us.
02:14I like the idea of a renter, and I will get the job done.
02:19Some potential to kind of grow a garden, some veggies and whatnot.
02:23Light and bright, and a bit of personality about it.
02:261.3 is our max budget.
02:28Obviously, we'd love to spend more if we could, but that's the budget the bank's given us,
02:32and we're going to try and make it work.
02:33Yeah, we can't go a dollar over.
02:35That's it.
02:36They're searching in Sydney's Sutherland Shire, 20km from the CBD.
02:45Close to friends, family, and work.
02:48It's such a nice day.
02:50First up, a townhouse in Miranda, less than 10 minutes from their current home in Cronulla.
02:56We're going to be looking today at a three-bed, two-bath, and two-garage space, which would be cool.
03:04I feel like garage space is everything we need in our lives.
03:08I know.
03:09You and your 10,000 surfboards.
03:11What's this one going for?
03:12This one's going for 1.3.
03:14So, you know, there might not be chilli margaritas and cappuccinos.
03:19Ooh, look at this.
03:26House number one, the premium townhouse.
03:30Ooh, I like it.
03:33I don't love it.
03:35I just think it's pretty.
03:37I feel like it'll be really beautiful inside, really clean and white and nice.
03:40No personality.
03:44Guys, welcome.
03:45So good to see you.
03:46How are you, Billy?
03:47How's things?
03:48Good.
03:49Thanks for coming down.
03:50All right, sweet.
03:51Excited?
03:52Yeah.
03:53Let's do it.
03:54So I'm really vibing that this is a Bronte property.
03:56It's modern, it's brand new, and it's nice.
03:59But I know Billy's style.
04:00I know that he wants something a little bit eclectic.
04:02I've got a good feeling that she's going to have to get Billy on board.
04:06I'm excited!
04:08Modern.
04:09It's very modern.
04:11White walls everywhere.
04:13It's a bit like an institution, isn't it?
04:15Sorry, Bronte, but I'm not sure Billy's a fan.
04:18Forget that it's white.
04:20Look how big the kitchen is.
04:22It is big.
04:23It'd be good to cook on.
04:24Gus is sick.
04:25Cool lights.
04:26Yeah.
04:27No, they're cool.
04:28It's ready to move in.
04:29It's going to be great for a family.
04:31Yeah.
04:32Nah, it's alright.
04:33Super modern, super clean.
04:34But it just kind of reminds me of being in a doctor's waiting room.
04:38All a bit clinical.
04:40I'm excited to see the bedrooms.
04:42Okay, there's carpet.
04:44Carpet is so good for Bowie.
04:45Yeah, it'd be good for her to be able to run around.
04:47So it's just two bedroom downstairs?
04:49There's one bedroom upstairs, two downstairs.
04:51Yeah, okay, cool.
04:52Would that be weird to be on a different level to Bowie downstairs?
04:55It'd be good for sleep.
04:57All right guys, come and have a look at the bathroom.
05:04Big shower?
05:06Oh yes.
05:07Look.
05:08It's a rainfall shower.
05:10Look.
05:11Bougie.
05:12We could both go into y'all.
05:13I love the shower.
05:15It has the clean, renovated, beautiful bathrooms.
05:18It's such an important space.
05:19I'm very excited about that.
05:21Can you press this mirror?
05:22What is this?
05:23That is an LED mirror.
05:25Whoa.
05:27Oh wow.
05:28She's modern.
05:29I like that.
05:30I don't love it.
05:31It's definitely not my style of bathroom, but I understand it's your style.
05:38Okay.
05:39This would be our bedroom.
05:40All right.
05:41A lot of storage, but the same thing is just all white with like, not even handles.
05:46It's just as much personality ripped from it as possible.
05:49That's a bit harsh, Billy.
05:51I really like it.
05:52And it sounds like Bronte certainly won over.
05:55Remember, we don't need to renovate.
05:57It's new.
05:58Yeah.
05:59It's easy without me.
06:00It feels fresh.
06:01It feels clean.
06:02I am a feeling person though.
06:04And like, I'm not sure if I'm getting, this is my new bedroom.
06:07If it's too beige for you, that says something.
06:10Out of the beige then and into the green.
06:11Let's hope outside gives them both the feels.
06:13It's small, but it's sweet.
06:14Yeah.
06:15I would like a bit more if there was some natural timber.
06:16Like we can have a bit of a deck out here and like a bit more personality.
06:18I feel like a little bit of grass will be nice for Bowie.
06:19That's definitely something we've been looking for.
06:20Yeah.
06:21No, that would be cool.
06:22And we've got to remember that not all places even have backyards.
06:23Yeah, I like that it would get the sun here so you would have potential to grow veggies out here too.
06:44I think this property ticks a lot of the boxes that I'm looking for.
06:47It has the outdoor living space.
06:49It has the clean, renovated, beautiful bathrooms.
06:51It's got a big kitchen.
06:53I don't love it.
06:54I'd rather have a bit of a more personality, a bit of colour.
06:57I feel like it's a bit of a carbon copy of every kind of other apartment just off the plan.
07:02But it's got a lot of natural light and we could move straight in which is definitely cool.
07:08At the next house.
07:09Sick.
07:10I wouldn't sleep in here.
07:11Can Billy and Bronte find common ground?
07:14You'd need to do the floorboards.
07:16Matter of opinion.
07:17Or has the train left the station?
07:20Who needs an alarm clock?
07:27My brother used to live there actually.
07:29They're in Cato.
07:30Oh, no way.
07:31Yeah.
07:32Really?
07:33In Sydney's Sutherland Shire, new parents Billy and Bronte are searching for a bigger home with their $1.3 million budget.
07:41But when it comes to property, they're chalk and cheese.
07:45Bronte wants a modern home with a sparkling bathroom and a lawn for baby Bowie to play on.
07:52Whereas Billy wants a fixer-upper with potential for a veggie patch and lots of vintage character.
08:00Next stop, Woolaware.
08:01Just five minutes from Cronulla's Golden Sands.
08:05So, today we're going to go look at a two-better, one-bathroom, one-car spot.
08:11Yeah.
08:12Maybe a little bit smaller than what we'd been thinking about.
08:15It's so close to where we live now.
08:17Like, so close to all of our friends, so close to the beach.
08:20If it's closer to the coast, I would happily compromise.
08:24So, the price of this one is 1.1, which is kind of well within our budget.
08:32Gives us a little bit more breathing space, I think.
08:34Yeah.
08:35Here we are.
08:36House number two.
08:45The compact townhouse.
08:46It's like a little rainforest.
08:47Yeah.
08:48It's really tucked away, hey.
08:50Like, there's so much greenery.
08:52My favourite buyers.
08:54So, today we have a beautiful two-bedroom villa.
08:59On the outside, I'm liking it.
09:00It's got a bit more personality already.
09:02It's a bit eclectic, got a bit of personality.
09:04Should we go and check it out?
09:05Yeah.
09:06Let's do it.
09:09Come on in.
09:10Whoa!
09:11This place is sick.
09:12Straight away, a good feeling.
09:13I like the floorboards.
09:14They're a little bit weathered.
09:15Ooh!
09:16Got some sun damage.
09:17That character's a big tick for Billy.
09:20I was just about to say that you'd need to do the floorboards.
09:25But a big cross for Bronte.
09:27It's not a worn-in look.
09:28It's like a needs-a-re-do kind of look.
09:32Matter of opinion.
09:34So far, Bronte isn't sharing Billy's enthusiasm.
09:39Can the master bedroom win her over?
09:42Whoa!
09:43Sick!
09:44It's like a studio apartment in itself.
09:49I really like the painted brick too.
09:51Bit of texture.
09:52I feel like it gives it a level of warmth.
09:55That first bedroom, definitely my style.
09:58Definitely probably not as much Bronte style.
10:00This is actually a garage that they've converted into a studio living room or the master bedroom.
10:07This would make it the third bedroom.
10:09How do you feel about that?
10:10I wouldn't sleep in here personally.
10:14I feel like it might need a little bit of renovations.
10:18Like maybe the carpet like come up.
10:21So, inside hasn't exactly got Bronte's heart racing.
10:27Can outside do any better?
10:30Oh!
10:31Okay!
10:32Wow!
10:33This is sick!
10:34I really like what they've done with this.
10:35This is cool.
10:36I don't love AstroTurf.
10:37You hate AstroTurf.
10:38I don't like it.
10:39It pisses you off.
10:40It gives me the s***.
10:41Billy!
10:42You're on to a winner here.
10:44Ease up on the AstroTurf mate.
10:46Oh, this is nice.
10:47Oh, this is nice.
10:48It is quite a narrow backyard though.
10:52Like it's not massive.
10:53But at least it's handy for public transport.
10:58Right on time.
11:00Who needs an alarm clock?
11:02I think it is a little bit close to the train station.
11:05I think it'd be one of those things you notice for about a week and then you just not notice
11:09anymore.
11:10You get over it.
11:11Let's check out the bathroom.
11:16Yeah, I'm excited to see the bathroom.
11:18Oh, it's bigger than I thought.
11:20Ooh, there's a bath.
11:21Yeah, we could actually give Bowie baths, which would be really nice.
11:24It's a positive.
11:25It's a shower.
11:26The shower's actually quite large.
11:28Like if you change over a few of the fixtures, you could really modernise that like a little
11:32bit more for you as well.
11:36Alright, last.
11:37Whoa!
11:38Little room.
11:39Wow, I get now why they made the garage.
11:42I understand too.
11:43The main bedroom.
11:44Quite small.
11:45I feel like this definitely hits a lot of boxes.
11:47It's like, it's under budget.
11:49I feel like it's got a lot of quirks and a lot of things that definitely feel like a lot
11:53of us.
11:54It does have a backyard, which obviously there's things that we would want to change, but we
11:57would have the money and the budget to change that.
11:59I'm just a little bit worried about whether or not we'd have to then move again in a few
12:03years time, just due to that same concern about space.
12:06Yeah.
12:07So I'm on the fence.
12:08I do like it, but it's not that big, so I feel like I'm confused.
12:13Can the confusion clear in the final house?
12:16Oh, I love an en suite.
12:18Oh, no.
12:19Or will the bathrooms prove too much for Bronte?
12:24I'm not going to shower in there.
12:32Alright.
12:33We are on the road.
12:35Bronte and Billy are on their way to see the final house on the list of potential new
12:40family homes in Sydney's Sutherland Shire, close to work and where they both grew up.
12:46This time, they're in Carringba, less than 10 minutes from Cronulla Beach.
12:50So we're going to see a house today.
12:53It's around the 1.3 range.
12:55So it's pushing it, but it is one garage, one car space, three bedroom.
13:01Three bedrooms.
13:02Two baths.
13:03Has a courtyard too.
13:05We'd be able to walk to work each morning, which would be cool.
13:08At least we'd never have to worry about being late to work.
13:11I'm sure I'd still give it a good nudge.
13:13If we're being this close.
13:16Cute houses around here.
13:17It's got kind of like a nice family feel.
13:19We're pretty much in the dead centre of my parents to your parents.
13:22Oh, my God.
13:23Great babysitting opportunities.
13:27Okay, I think this is the block.
13:29It's quite big.
13:30Yeah.
13:31I like all the red brick.
13:32House number three.
13:37The tidy townhouse.
13:39It's massive, hey.
13:40Heaps bigger than I thought.
13:41It's really big.
13:42There's heaps you could do with the garden here too.
13:44Loki.
13:45Billy.
13:46How are you, mate?
13:47Great to see you.
13:48Good to see you again.
13:49Mwah.
13:50Let's go have a look, guys.
13:53Oh, it's big.
13:55Yeah, it is big.
13:57It's definitely more your style in terms of the modern white look.
14:01I don't love the floorboards.
14:03I think they're a bit light and bright.
14:04I prefer the dark, kind of antiquey floorboards.
14:07I like them.
14:08I think it makes it feel really spacious.
14:11So, both are happy with the amount of space.
14:14But while the modern styling's a big tick for Bronte,
14:17it's a no-no for Billy.
14:20There's a bit of work that we would have to invest
14:22and this is at the top end of the 1.3,
14:24so we'd have to see if we'd have the money to do that stuff.
14:26I like the balancerate.
14:27Oh, my God, Billy, look at this.
14:28Whoa.
14:29Ha!
14:30She's big.
14:31Sick.
14:32Who else is going to have this in their house?
14:33Not us.
14:34Billy, you can't be serious.
14:35I'm loving the chandelier.
14:36Oh, God.
14:37I think this is the main bedroom.
14:38Wow.
14:39Big bedroom.
14:40Oh, I love an ensuite.
14:41Oh, I love an ensuite.
14:47Oh, no.
14:48Did you hate them, now yuck?
14:49Oh, yuck.
14:50I know the bathroom's weird.
14:52I don't like the tiles.
14:54I would just shut this door and pretend it doesn't exist.
14:55I hate the bathroom.
14:58That's not the bathroom's weird.
15:00Not us.
15:01Billy, you can't be serious.
15:03I love the chandelier.
15:04You can't be serious.
15:05I'm loving the chandelier.
15:06Oh, God.
15:07I think this is the main bedroom.
15:08I hate the bathroom. Besides the bit of mould, it actually kind of smells. This bathroom
15:14needs to be stripped. You want to take a sledgehammer here and your white spray gun, don't you?
15:20This one's clearly not hitting Bronte's bathroom bling wishlist. But there's always the family
15:28bathroom for relaxing and letting the day's stress just melt away.
15:32Come on, Grandma. I'm not loving the bathrooms. Damn, I wish they were just a little bit more
15:41modern. Eww. I clearly spoke far too soon. It's kind of a downfall for me at the moment.
15:48It needs so much bleach. I'm afraid of the bathroom. Oh. Bathroom. I need some work. That looks
16:00kind of straight off. Oh. I'm not going to shower in there.
16:07With both bathrooms needing a major reno and this house at the top of their budget, the
16:13future costs might see this place out of the running. Oh. That's broken. Whoa. Wow. It's
16:23big. There's a bit of gardening work needs to do, but there's definitely lots of potential
16:28we get it done. Yeah. I guess it's a lot of space for Bowie. That's what she needs. I
16:33was kind of hoping it would be grass. Just out here. Come and have a look at this. Ah, yes!
16:40Oh, grass is greener on the other side. That grass is a massive tick for baby Bowie. This
16:46is cool. This is really cool. Yeah. I feel like here would get really nice sunlight. And
16:51we could have a swing in the tree for Bowie. With the rug down. I've always wanted a patch
16:56of grass. It's definitely ticking a lot of boxes. There's definitely some things that are worrying
17:02us as well, though. Like, it's definitely more your style. Definitely quite white and modern.
17:07Definitely some work that needs to happen in there. Yeah. So I'd be worried about spending at the top end
17:12of our budget not having the money to do that. Yeah, these properties left me kind of confused. I
17:16feel like it's spacious. It's light. The bedrooms are really big. And the fact that the bathrooms
17:22need renovations and like a bit of TLC outdoors. It just depends if we can even afford to do it.
17:27And if we can live without those renovations done. Yeah, for sure. More you. If you're going
17:31to shower or not. Well, I guess I'll have to shower. There's a hose.
17:34What do you think? Time to decide. I loved it. In terms of me personally, it's not like 100%.
17:42Which one will become Billy and Bronte's family home? I don't know. I'm feeling more confused than
17:47I probably did before. In Sydney's Sutherland Shire, Bronte and Billy want to buy a larger home for
17:58their growing family. But can they agree on which one? It's a tough one. This one's a really tough
18:05decision. I feel really torn about it. Yeah. Bronte wants a modern place with a lawn for daughter
18:11Bowie's playtime. While Billy wants a character do-er-upper with potential for a veggie patch.
18:17All right. Let's discuss the premium townhouse. What do you think? I loved it. We want space?
18:27Yeah. Tick. Garden? Tick. Colour? Personality?
18:35Obviously, I loved the bathrooms. Clean, fresh. I do like that it has a backyard. That's cool.
18:41It'd be safe for Bowie out there. In terms of the move-in, it's easy for Bowie. Like,
18:45we could move in and live there straight away. In terms of me personally, it's not like 100%,
18:49but in terms of Bowie, it makes a lot of sense. All right. Let's talk about the compact townhouse.
18:55That felt like us even rocking up. Like, bricks on the outside, some plants, some trees. Yeah,
19:00I did love the greenery. We love the location. It's right near the beach. Cool backyard. The main
19:06bedroom was converted from the garage, but that means that there is no garage, which means no storage.
19:12Yeah, we'd have to work around that. It was pretty close to the train truck.
19:15Yeah. I didn't find the trains too annoying. I didn't think they were too loud. I'd sleep
19:20through anything. This one is at the lower end of our budget. It's at 1.1, so there is room to kind
19:26of really personalise and make it us. I think we would be saving money, yes, but I don't believe
19:31that it would be a forever home. I feel like we would be moving quite soon to gain that space.
19:35Tidy townhouse. I think it has the courtyard and the backyard that we've been looking for.
19:40Yeah. It's got the space. Space, definitely. The interior is definitely more you, the white walls
19:45and the floorboards. Although, I just feel like if we were to go with this house, the bathrooms is
19:51something that I would love to renovate, and I worry that spending... We're not going to have any money.
19:55Spending 1.3 is going to leave us really tight. Just have to cop it for Bowie to give her that more
20:00space, to give it that backyard and that, like, actual grass patch, as well as, like, you know,
20:05that whole courtyard area. Looking at the three places, they're all so different and tick different
20:10boxes for both of us because we're so different. We're never going to get all those boxes ticked,
20:14so I don't know. I'm feeling more confused than I probably did before.
20:19Well, Billie, it's make-up-your-mind time. Will Bronte get her hands on a turnkey modern home with
20:26Lux bathroom? Or will Billy get to put his stamp on the brick fixer-upper with the cash left over
20:34after purchase? Or will Bronte take one for the team and shower at the Tidy Townhouse
20:41so the family can spread out in a bigger home?
20:48We bought a home! I can't believe we own this place. God, there's so much stuff.
20:53We bought the Tidy Townhouse. I feel like it had a lot of what we were looking for in a property.
20:59Yeah, it has the potential, has the space for our family to grow. There's a bit of work that needs
21:03to happen, but we're in no rush. God, there's just so many containers and we don't even have a wardrobe.
21:09The house was listed for 1.3 and we paid 1.3. On the dot, which is good because we had no more money.
21:15Yeah, no more money. So that's where we were cut off. Bowie, are you going to help us unpack?
21:20We compromised a little bit in needing to do renovations on the bathroom, but we feel like
21:24we've got a really good balance and we're really happy. I feel like it's a good mix between the two
21:28of us. It's got the white walls and the floorboards for Bronte, but it's still got those little quirks
21:32of a chandelier and whatnot for us. Bowie! Can I come see your new lawn? It's got the size,
21:38which I think we need more than anything with Bowie. I feel like that's the initial reason why we wanted to
21:42move is we needed the space. So we've ticked the biggest box and everything else will fall into
21:46place after that. Yay! Yay! She's absolutely loving this space. She's out on that patch of grass.
21:54She's loving all the room in her bedroom. What's that? Wow! We're very happy with our decision.
