Haldwani (Uttarakhand) – Four people, including a four-day-old infant, lost their lives after a car plunged into a rain-swollen roadside canal on Wednesday. The accident occurred amid heavy rainfall in the region, causing water levels to rise dangerously.

The car, carrying seven passengers, got stuck under a culvert after being swept away by the strong current. Water quickly flooded the vehicle, trapping all occupants. Rescue teams broke the windshield to retrieve the victims. Four were declared dead, and three others remain critically injured at Sushil Tiwari Hospital.

City SP Prakash Chandra confirmed that the car was swept away by the current and efforts are on to gather further details. Haldwani Municipal Commissioner Richa Singh said emergency teams are on standby, and citizens have been advised to avoid flooded zones and overflowing drains.
