00:00Tallahassei é um lugar onde muitas coisas estranhas acontecem.
00:07Mas o caso de Eligador Mike Williams é uma verdadeira mistura.
00:13Ele disse, eu vou ver você Monday e ele entrou. Pouf, desapareceu.
01:24Um ativante.
01:25Um ativante.
01:27Um ativante.
01:28E em final, você está se lembro.
01:31Como bem você realmente conhece aqueles próximos?
01:34Mike e Denise Williams
01:48são high school sweethearts
01:50e em 2000
01:51eles estavam vivendo a boa vida
01:53em Tallahassee, Florida
01:54Their família
01:57bloomed quando sua filha Ainsley
01:59foi nascido
02:00Ela é agora 18 meses
02:02e não há dúvida
02:04Ela é a luz da sua vida
02:06Eu diria que se Facebook existia
02:09eles eram a Facebook família
02:10A minha filha
02:12Ela parece só como a mãe
02:14Ela é bonita
02:15E Mike é como o meu filho
02:18Mike ama o outdoors
02:21e ele vai hunting e fishing
02:22most weekends
02:23Mas como ele é um outdoorsman
02:26sua família vem primeiro
02:27Mike querido Denise
02:30Ele colocou ela na pedestal
02:31I mean, se Denise
02:34called him and said
02:35I need gas
02:36Mike would go
02:37leave the office
02:38go find where she was
02:39and pump her gas
02:41He was very attentive
02:44Mike and Denise
02:46were a very successful family
02:48Denise had her degree
02:51in accounting
02:51and Mike was extremely successful
02:54in real estate appraisal
02:55but for both of them
02:57Ainsley was their world
02:58Mike was a great father
03:00left me a voicemail one time
03:02which he thought he had hung up
03:04and I can hear him
03:05singing to his daughter
03:06it was pretty funny
03:07but just a good dad
03:10By Friday, December 15, 2000
03:19at the end of another long week
03:21Mike is ready to celebrate
03:23his sixth wedding anniversary
03:25with his wife Denise
03:26He and Denise
03:28were going to go down
03:29to St. George Island area
03:31and stay overnight
03:32so he was looking forward to that
03:34and he said
03:36I'll see you Monday
03:36and walked up
03:38The following morning
03:49December 16
03:50Mike woke up early
03:52to drive up to Lake Seminole
03:55and squeeze some duck hunting in
03:57before the weekend getaway
03:58Mike was supposed to be home by noon
04:16but when he didn't show up
04:18Denise became concerned
04:20because it was unusual
04:21for Mike to be late
04:23and especially since
04:24they were planning
04:24a romantic weekend
04:26Mike and his friend
04:28Damon had gone hunting
04:30just a week earlier
04:31so Denise thinks that
04:34there's a chance
04:35Damon's with him now
04:37but when she gets Damon
04:39on the phone
04:40and realizes that
04:42he's not with Mike
04:43she starts to really worry
04:46At that point
04:48I told her I would come
04:49to her house
04:50and I met her father there
04:52and then we both drove
04:53to Lake Seminole
04:54It takes about 45 minutes
04:58to get to the lake
04:59before they can start
05:00looking for Mike
05:01But Damon's surprised
05:06when they get to the lake
05:07and they come across Mike's truck
05:10at a remote boat launch
05:13It wasn't the official landing
05:17it wasn't the same spot
05:18that we had hunted
05:18the weekend before
05:19But more curious
05:23is that Mike
05:24isn't there
05:25Sensing that something
05:32is amiss
05:33Denise's dad
05:34calls for help
05:35And with officers
05:38from the Florida Wildlife
05:40Conservation Commission
05:41they begin searching
05:43for Mike
05:43They recruit more people
05:47to help
05:48with the search
05:49like Mike's best friend
05:51Brian Winchester
05:52At that point
05:57we started walking the shores
06:00looking for him
06:01We talked to any duck hunters
06:05that were coming in
06:06off the pond that night
06:07and nobody had seen a hunter
06:09or anything along the lines
06:11of Mike
06:12That night
06:15a cold front
06:16suddenly rolls in
06:17and it goes below freezing
06:19So for everyone's safety
06:21the search is called off
06:23until the next morning
06:24At dawn
06:28Mike's now been missing
06:30for 24 hours
06:31and so
06:32the search efforts
06:33have grown substantially
06:35When I got there
06:37Sunday morning
06:38the search was
06:40heavy
06:42and it was
06:43continuing to build
06:44There was multiple helicopters
06:46multiple boats
06:47and multiple volunteers
06:49Soon after
06:51Brian Winchester
06:52and his father
06:53found the boat
06:54Mike's boat
06:58is discovered
06:5875 yards
06:59from the landing
07:00where Mike's truck
07:01was found
07:02But it had been obscured
07:04by tall weeds
07:05in the marshland
07:05Of course
07:07everybody was looking
07:08at what was in the boat
07:09There was
07:11a big bag
07:11of duck decoys
07:12and his gun
07:16and a scabbard
07:17With the gun
07:20still in its case
07:21and the duck decoys
07:22undeployed
07:23the authorities
07:24consider the possibility
07:25that Mike
07:26fell out of the boat
07:27when he sat out
07:28on the lake
07:29Lake Seminole
07:30was created
07:31when they dammed up
07:33a couple different rivers
07:34and flooded
07:35an old woody area
07:36and stumps are out there
07:38It was possible
07:39that Mike had
07:40his stump
07:41fell out of his boat
07:42People were thinking
07:44that if Mike
07:45fell out of the boat
07:45and he had his waders on
07:46he might have drowned
07:48because if you go overboard
07:49with waders
07:49they're going to fill up
07:50they're going to suck to you
07:51and you're going to have
07:52a hard time getting out
07:53of them
07:53When your waders are full of water
07:54you're made of buoyancy
07:56so you're suction
07:57to the bottom
07:58and then you drown
07:59But as everyone
08:01takes a closer look
08:02at Mike's boat
08:03something strikes them
08:05as odd
08:05The gas tank was full
08:11Normally if you're running
08:13in a boat
08:13and the operator
08:14falls out
08:15it circles
08:15until it runs out of gas
08:17But it was like
08:19it had never been cranked up
08:20After that
08:23they pulled the gun out
08:25It was an upland bird game
08:27shotgun
08:28A very expensive gun
08:30I had never seen Mike
08:32take a gun
08:33like that
08:34into a duck boat
08:35I thought it was
08:37most unusual
08:38Things were not right
08:41by any means
08:50As we got into
08:53the next week
08:54it was only a few days
08:56before Christmas
08:57and it became
08:59very, very sad
09:00At that point
09:02it wasn't like
09:03a search
09:03for Mike
09:05it was like
09:05a recovery
09:06Every day
09:08you had
09:10some type of
09:11government resource
09:12out there
09:12literally pulling
09:13every inch
09:14to see if they could
09:15find anything
09:17having
09:17cadaver dogs
09:18from all over the country
09:20coming in
09:21and looking for this man
09:22For Mike's mother
09:28Miss Cheryl
09:28it was
09:29incredibly difficult
09:31but
09:32Miss Cheryl
09:33is a strong woman
09:34She struggled
09:36but Cheryl Williams
09:38held out hope
09:39that Mike
09:40was somewhere
09:41and she thought
09:42that he was alive
09:43According to Clay Ketchum
09:46unlike Cheryl
09:48Mike's wife Denise
09:49quickly loses hope
09:51From Denise's perspective
09:55it was horrible
09:55It was a tragedy
09:57She just resorted
09:59to the fact
09:59that something tragic
10:00did happen to Mike
10:01and she was
10:02mourning the loss
10:03of her husband
10:05and father
10:05of her child
10:06It's been two weeks
10:14since Mike disappeared
10:16and just before
10:18the new year
10:19a fisherman
10:20finds a hat
10:21in the search area
10:22The investigators
10:24show the hat
10:25to Mike's best friend
10:27and hunting buddy
10:28Brian Winchester
10:29and Brian says
10:30that it looks like
10:31a hat that Mike owned
10:32but he can't be
10:34totally sure
10:35But it did not have
10:37any of the signs
10:38that it had been
10:39in the water
10:39for a period of time
10:40It didn't have any
10:41algae or slime
10:42But it's strange
10:45because just days before
10:47searchers were in
10:48the same area
10:49and didn't see the hat
10:50Regardless
10:52investigators believe
10:53it belonged to Mike
10:54and it's an indication
10:55he was there
10:56So why can't
10:58they find him?
11:10At the end of 2000
11:12a fisherman finds
11:13what authorities believe
11:14is Mike Williams' hat
11:16at Lake Seminole
11:17They take the clothing item
11:20as a sign
11:21that Mike was
11:22at the reservoir
11:22on December 16th
11:24However, the discovery
11:27of the hat
11:27leads investigators
11:29to a grim new theory
11:33Brian Winchester
11:35was giving me
11:36an update on the search
11:37and he said
11:38I hate to tell you this
11:39but there is
11:40a possibility
11:41that Mike
11:41may have been eaten
11:42by alligators
11:43There's a lot of alligators
11:46in Lake Seminole
11:47and so the theory
11:48was either
11:49one, he went over
11:51and drowned
11:51and got eaten
11:52or two,
11:54he was waiting
11:54and an alligator
11:55got him
11:56Investigators
11:58have the hat
11:59tested
11:59for traces
12:01of Mike's DNA
12:02If Mike was eaten
12:04by alligators
12:05if there was
12:06a significant
12:06blood loss
12:08tissue loss
12:09if any of that
12:10happened
12:11if I were
12:11on the evidence
12:12it would be
12:13observable
12:14But the test results
12:17show no trace
12:18of Mike Williams' DNA
12:20More than 700 man hours
12:24are dedicated
12:25to scouring
12:26the 10-acre patch
12:28of Lake Seminole
12:29making this
12:30the most exhaustive search
12:33of that area
12:34since 1957
12:35the year the lake
12:37first opened
12:38to the public
12:39But investigators
12:44are no closer
12:45to finding Mike
12:46than the day
12:47they found his boat
12:48nearly two months earlier
12:49And on February 10th
12:512001
12:51the search for Mike Williams
12:53is officially called off
12:55Denise decides
12:59to have a memorial service
13:01the following day
13:02Even though Cheryl
13:07believes deep down
13:08that her son
13:09is still alive
13:10she goes along
13:12with the memorial
13:13to support
13:14her daughter-in-law
13:14Denise
13:15I remember being
13:17at the funeral
13:18and just watching
13:19Denise and my heart
13:20just breaking
13:21for her
13:22and for Ansley
13:23I mean
13:24Ansley was 18 months old
13:26and her father was gone
13:27and I was devastated
13:28for them
13:29It was very emotional
13:32you know
13:32a few times
13:33that I get choked up
13:34that was one of them
13:35A week and a half
13:48after the memorial service
13:50the Fish and Wildlife Commission
13:51releases Mike's accident report
13:54There is no evidence
13:56of a drowning
13:57or a boating accident
13:58and while authorities
13:59believe Mike went overboard
14:01In the end
14:02all the accident report
14:04can conclude
14:05is that Mike
14:06is still missing
14:08Then in June 2001
14:15six months after
14:17Mike's disappearance
14:19a fisherman finds
14:20a pair of rubber waders
14:22floating on the surface
14:24of Lake Seminole
14:25And they're in the exact area
14:29where investigators
14:30believed
14:31Mike Williams drowned
14:32But the waders
14:36are like new
14:37It indicates
14:39to investigators
14:40that they could not
14:41have been floating
14:42on the surface
14:43of the lake
14:44for very long
14:45Even though
14:46the waders
14:47didn't have alligator
14:48ripping, tearing
14:49It was like
14:51an oh my gosh
14:52kind of moment
14:52When they find them
14:56they call
14:57Brian Winchester
14:58Mike Williams' best friend
14:59He comes over
15:01and identifies them
15:02as waders
15:03similar to the one
15:04that Mike owned
15:05They took the waders
15:07and they checked them
15:08for any possible
15:10genetic material
15:10There was nothing in them
15:13The results
15:18only lead
15:19to more questions
15:20Authorities turned
15:23to a local diver
15:24named Lamar English
15:25to see if there is
15:27anything
15:27at the bottom
15:28of the lake
15:29I went to the lake
15:32to the area
15:33that they had marked
15:34where the waders
15:35were found
15:35and they wanted to see
15:36if anything
15:37was on the bottom
15:37And literally
15:41just a couple
15:42of minutes
15:43after I hit the bottom
15:44and started searching
15:45I found
15:47a jacket
15:48Lamar searches
15:54the area
15:55around the jacket
15:56to see if there is
15:58anything else
15:58down there
15:59and he finds
16:01another
16:02possible clue
16:03I found
16:05a yellow flashlight
16:06like Mike Williams
16:08was known
16:08to carry
16:09I instinctively
16:11just turned it on
16:11to see if it worked
16:12and it did
16:13it was like
16:14it was brand new
16:15When the diver
16:18gets to shore
16:19he begins
16:20searching the jacket
16:22There was no slime
16:25algae
16:25there was literally
16:27hardly anything
16:28on it
16:28Then
16:30Lamar makes
16:31a crucial discovery
16:33In the left breast pocket
16:36there was Mike Williams
16:38hunting license
16:39Like all of the
16:41other belongings
16:42that have been
16:42recovered
16:43the license
16:45is also
16:46in pristine condition
16:48You would think
16:50that if it had been
16:50in the water
16:51for six months
16:51that it would have
16:52began to deteriorate
16:54like paper does
16:54Although the evidence
16:56does raise eyebrows
16:58for authorities
16:59it's just further
17:00proof that Mike
17:01drowned
17:02at Lake Seminole
17:03But the news
17:07doesn't sit well
17:08with Mike's mom
17:10Cheryl
17:10She does not think
17:15that her son
17:16drowned
17:17This mounting evidence
17:20led her to believe
17:21that somebody
17:22had hurt her son
17:24She would write
17:26letters every day
17:27to state agencies
17:28to try to get
17:29resolution
17:30Cheryl is convinced
17:32that Mike was a victim
17:33of foul play
17:34and she publicly
17:36pushes the FDLE
17:37to open a criminal
17:38investigation
17:39into her son's
17:40disappearance
17:41But Cheryl gets
17:45a shocking response
17:47when Denise hears
17:49about it
17:50Denise says
17:53that Cheryl needs
17:54to just accept
17:55the situation
17:56for what it is
17:57Mike had been gone
18:01a very long time
18:02and Denise believed
18:03that it was
18:04a freak accident
18:05and Mike passed
18:07that way
18:07But Cheryl Williams
18:09would not stop
18:10She was constantly
18:12pushing and wanting
18:13for more investigation
18:15of where Mike was
18:16and Denise
18:17just couldn't
18:18take it
18:19To her surprise
18:21Denise tells Cheryl
18:23that if she continues
18:24to pursue
18:25a criminal investigation
18:27she's going
18:28to be punished
18:29The threat was
18:32that Anzley
18:33would be withheld
18:34from seeing
18:36Ms. Cheryl
18:37if she continued
18:38to pursue answers
18:40Cheryl is completely
18:45shocked
18:46But she can't let go
18:48of the idea
18:49that her son's
18:51disappearance
18:51is really
18:52no accident
18:54And she knows
18:57that she has to do
18:58everything she can
18:59to keep her son's
19:00case alive
19:01You know
19:06a mother's love
19:07is a mother's love
19:07and a mother
19:09will never let go
19:09of a child
19:10And in fact
19:13Denise does
19:14eventually
19:15forbid Cheryl
19:16from having
19:17any contact
19:18with the granddaughter
19:20that she adores
19:21Separation from
19:25her grandchild
19:26too
19:27she dearly
19:28dearly loved
19:29It was very difficult
19:30for Ms. Cheryl
19:31But as far as
19:33after that
19:34Ms. Cheryl
19:38mounted a
19:39one woman
19:39campaign
19:40to find out
19:41what happened
19:41to her boy
19:42and
19:43just broke
19:45her heart
19:45She would walk
19:47up and down
19:48sidewalks
19:49holding Mike's
19:50picture
19:50and sign up
19:51Cheryl became
19:54very vocal
19:55and published
19:55the newspaper ad
19:56and created posters
19:57and billboards
19:58that were up
19:59all around town
20:01Cheryl Williams
20:02speaks to anyone
20:03and everyone
20:04that she can
20:05I want the world
20:06to know
20:07he was a good person
20:09he was a wonderful
20:09father
20:10wonderful son
20:12wonderful brother
20:13and it's horrible
20:14not knowing
20:15what happened to him
20:21After more than
20:22three years
20:23of pushing
20:24the FDLE
20:26Cheryl Williams
20:27finally receives
20:28a letter
20:28that may actually
20:29help her cause
20:31Cheryl Williams
20:33contacted
20:34an alligator
20:35specialist
20:36at Florida State
20:37University
20:38and what she found
20:38out is that
20:40alligators don't eat
20:40during the wintertime
20:41because they
20:43more or less
20:44hibernate
20:44But even if they did
20:46it's impossible
20:47for an alligator
20:48to devour somebody
20:50whole without
20:50leaving
20:51unfortunately
20:53evidence
20:53It's a violent
20:55attack
20:56and there's
20:57plenty of evidence
20:58and none of that
20:59was there
20:59In an instant
21:02Cheryl realizes
21:04Mike's disappearance
21:05had nothing to do
21:06with an accident
21:07or alligators
21:08but it must have been
21:10foul play
21:11In 2004
21:25Cheryl Williams
21:26receives a letter
21:27from an alligator expert
21:29stating
21:29it's impossible
21:31that alligators
21:32had consumed
21:33her son
21:34Mike Williams
21:34After Cheryl
21:38gets the letter
21:39she marches
21:40straight to
21:41FDLE
21:42Special Agent
21:46with Donnie Branch
21:47and myself
21:48had an audience
21:49with Miss Williams
21:50She started
21:51to tell us
21:52the story
21:52and she presented
21:54the letter
21:54Cheryl Williams
21:57was pushing
21:57the right buttons
21:58to get people
22:00to look at the case
22:01again and realize
22:02this doesn't
22:03look right
22:04While the letter
22:06from the expert
22:07is a good start
22:08in order to
22:09reclassify
22:10Mike's missing
22:11person's case
22:12as a criminal
22:12investigation
22:13investigators need
22:14to produce
22:15sufficient evidence
22:16of foul play
22:17In this case
22:18that is extremely
22:20problematic
22:20At the time
22:23of Mike's
22:23disappearance
22:23Game and Fish
22:24thought they were
22:25investigating
22:26a boat accident
22:26There was never
22:28any innuendo
22:28of any criminal
22:29activity
22:30The disappearance
22:33was never
22:34treated as a crime
22:35So
22:36the Bronco
22:37the boat
22:39and the gun
22:41were never
22:42dusted for fingerprints
22:43And so
22:45if a crime
22:46had taken place
22:47all of the evidence
22:49was long gone
22:51So investigators
22:53have to start
22:54from the beginning
22:54I got these
22:58huge folders
22:59of all the information
23:00and I started
23:01looking at all
23:01these different angles
23:02trying to find
23:03anything that
23:04could be identified
23:05as evidence
23:06of foul play
23:06And when you
23:08didn't have any
23:08evidence to begin
23:09with
23:09it's even tougher
23:11With no leads
23:14investigators
23:15have to ask
23:16did Mike
23:16intentionally
23:18vanish
23:18One of the
23:20circulating
23:20thoughts
23:21around the time
23:22was that Mike
23:23just disappeared
23:23on his own
23:24He just walked
23:24away from his
23:25life
23:25his family
23:26because he
23:26wasn't happy
23:27Mike was a
23:29frugal individual
23:30and money
23:31would stress
23:32him out
23:3330 days
23:34prior to Mike's
23:35disappearance
23:36Mike shared
23:37with me
23:37concern
23:38that he
23:39was having
23:39with Denise
23:40and it was
23:41over an expense
23:42that occurred
23:43on a MasterCard
23:44and it exceeded
23:45the limit
23:46and Mike
23:48was letting it
23:48get the best
23:49of his emotions
23:50They're a married
23:54couple
23:55Married couples
23:55argue
23:56they fight
23:56it's life
23:57Denise and Mike
23:59had some issues
24:00but Mike
24:02had a daughter
24:02he loved
24:03she was young
24:05he was not
24:06going to leave her
24:07Ansley was his
24:08life and he
24:09would have done
24:09anything for
24:10that little girl
24:10he just lived
24:12for that child
24:13Convinced that
24:17Mike would
24:18never walk
24:20away from his
24:20life
24:21investigators
24:23do a deeper
24:24search
24:25and that's
24:27when they
24:28find a
24:29possible clue
24:30While looking
24:32through Mike's
24:32files
24:32particularly
24:33his insurance
24:34policies
24:34investigator
24:35Wester
24:36realizes that
24:37Denise started
24:38looking into
24:39insurance claims
24:40when the search
24:41for Mike
24:41was still
24:42underway
24:42In Florida
24:45typically someone
24:46needs to be
24:47missing for
24:48about five years
24:49before they can
24:50be declared
24:51legally dead
24:52and the family
24:53can collect
24:54on a life
24:55insurance policy
24:56But Denise
25:00gets her payout
25:01in just six
25:02months
25:02which is
25:03record time
25:04How did
25:05she do
25:05that?
25:07As he
25:07digs into
25:08the paperwork
25:09investigator
25:09Wester
25:10discovers
25:11that Denise
25:12filed a petition
25:13in probate court
25:14to declare
25:15her spouse
25:16legally dead
25:17And that's
25:20a move
25:20that's required
25:21so that she
25:21can collect
25:22benefits
25:22including
25:23life insurance
25:25And on July
25:2629th
25:272001
25:28a judge
25:29signs a
25:30presumptive
25:30death certificate
25:31for Mike
25:32Williams
25:32The probate
25:34court
25:34concludes
25:35that
25:35the evidence
25:36that was
25:37found in
25:37the lake
25:37is compelling
25:38enough to
25:39show that
25:40Mike
25:40disappeared
25:41at the
25:42reservoir
25:42And with
25:44that
25:44Denise
25:45Williams
25:45collects
25:46a windfall
25:47of well
25:47over
25:481.5
25:49million
25:49dollars
25:50from
25:50Mike's
25:51life
25:51insurance
25:52policies
25:53While reviewing
25:55the insurance
25:55paperwork
25:56investigator
25:57Wester
25:57notices
25:58another
25:59interesting
25:59detail
26:00It had
26:03been discovered
26:04that
26:05Mike's
26:05best friend
26:06Brian
26:06Winchester
26:07was the
26:07insurance
26:08salesman
26:08who sold
26:09Denise
26:09and Mike
26:10a very
26:10large
26:11life insurance
26:11policy
26:12on Mike's
26:13life
26:14and
26:15only
26:15six
26:16months
26:16before
26:16Mike
26:17Williams
26:17disappeared
26:18And then
26:21investigators
26:22are
26:22immediately
26:23struck
26:24by
26:24an
26:25interesting
26:25turn
26:26of
26:26events
26:27Brian
26:29and Mike's
26:30widow
26:31Denise
26:31are engaged
26:33It had
26:38catch you
26:38a little
26:38bit
26:39off
26:39but
26:40at some
26:40point
26:41Brian
26:41Winchester
26:41and his
26:42wife
26:42got
26:43divorced
26:43and then
26:44Brian
26:44and Denise
26:45end up
26:45together
26:46I was
26:48surprised
26:49but
26:49it's
26:50gotta be
26:50tough
26:50when I'm
26:52lost
26:52a spouse
26:52and when I'm
26:53lost
26:54his best
26:54friend
26:54Anything
26:56that we
26:56heard
26:57was just
26:57that
26:58their loss
26:58of Mike
26:59is what
26:59brought
26:59them
26:59together
27:00investigator
27:04investigator
27:04West
27:05are
27:05wonders
27:05if
27:05Brian
27:06and
27:06Denise
27:06were
27:06having
27:07an
27:07affair
27:07prior
27:08to
27:09Mike's
27:09disappearance
27:10and if
27:11they conspired
27:11to get
27:12Mike out
27:12of the
27:13picture
27:13and collect
27:14his insurance
27:15money
27:15Investigators
27:17arranged to
27:17interview
27:18both
27:18Denise
27:19and Brian
27:20hoping
27:20to get
27:21answers
27:22But when
27:24they meet
27:25with Denise
27:26it's not
27:27at all
27:27what they
27:28expect
27:28Talking
27:30to Denise
27:31she had
27:32retained
27:32a lawyer
27:33and exercised
27:34her rights
27:35So
27:37our
27:38interaction
27:39was
27:39it was
27:40cold
27:41She knew
27:43not to
27:44answer
27:44until
27:45her lawyer
27:46had an
27:46opportunity
27:46to object
27:47to the
27:47question
27:48I would
27:49assume
27:50that
27:50if you're
27:51not guilty
27:52and you
27:53got your
27:53lawyer
27:53present
27:53why don't
27:55you answer
27:55the questions
27:56Instead
27:58of being
27:59someone
28:00who would
28:01appreciate
28:02what they
28:03were doing
28:03to find
28:04Mike
28:04she is
28:05stone cold
28:06I just
28:09didn't
28:09understand
28:10how this
28:10woman
28:11is just
28:11clammed up
28:13in a room
28:13and it
28:15was the
28:15most
28:15uncomfortable
28:16that I've
28:17ever been
28:18trying to
28:18talk to
28:19somebody
28:19however
28:21when it's
28:22time for
28:22investigators
28:23to interview
28:24Brian
28:24he's
28:25surprisingly
28:26chatty
28:27The first
28:29time I met
28:29Brian
28:29we're just
28:30asking him
28:31to establish
28:32his alibi
28:32he said
28:35he woke
28:36up and
28:36just stayed
28:37around the
28:37house
28:38and at
28:393 o'clock
28:39drove into
28:40his former
28:41spouse's
28:41family's
28:42Christmas
28:42gathering
28:42and
28:43he even
28:44described
28:44the vehicle
28:44that they
28:45were in
28:46and everything
28:46But the
28:49interesting
28:50thing is
28:50that
28:50police
28:51had already
28:52done
28:52their
28:52homework
28:53they had
28:54spoken
28:54with his
28:55ex-wife
28:55The alibi
28:57that he gave
28:58us wasn't
28:58accurate
28:59Brian's
29:01ex-wife
29:02and her
29:02family
29:03claimed
29:03that they
29:03didn't
29:04see
29:04Brian
29:04until
29:055 o'clock
29:06on the
29:06night
29:06that Mike

30:10Investigator

34:50And once the divorce is final
34:52She is going to tell them what really happened
34:56With this guy that died
34:57Do you remember the person's name?
35:02Something Williams
35:12After investigators speak to a witness
35:16About Denise Williams' abduction
35:18Brian Winchester finds himself in court
35:21Facing multiple charges, including kidnapping
35:23Brian pleads no contest to kidnapping Denise at gunpoint
35:29Brian Winchester was a broken man in court
35:36He cried repeatedly, he apologized repeatedly
35:39And he hung his head
35:41Start by stating your name, please
35:44Denise Williams
35:45The only person that spoke against Brian was Denise
35:49And when she spoke, she was visibly shaking
35:52Shaking like a leaf
35:54I live each day with the fear of his retaliation
35:57For my decision to tell
35:59He will finish what he has started
36:03No matter what age he is when he's released
36:06It comes down to my life or his
36:09And I'm asking you, please, to choose mine
36:13The 800-pound gorilla looming over the courtroom
36:16Was, would we learn more about Mike Williams' disappearance
36:20During that court hearing?
36:21Thanks, ma'am
36:22But during her victim impact statement
36:26Denise mentions nothing
36:28About the cold case involving Mike
36:32Come on up with your client
36:33On December 19th, 2017
36:36Brian reaches a plea deal with prosecutors
36:38And he is sentenced before the court
36:40You're giving me 20 years?
36:4320 years
36:44Good luck to you, sir
36:45Brian and his attorney are shocked
36:4820 years is a stiff sentence
36:52For someone who has no prior record
36:55I think the fact that the judge imposed the sentence that he imposed
37:00It's pretty clear that there was a lot more to this
37:03Than just what happened that day
37:04But we had to wait to learn that information
37:07Fortunately, the wait isn't long
37:11The very next day, an announcement is made
37:14That took 17 years to come to light
37:16After receiving new information
37:18FDLE's crime scene unit and special agents
37:22Spent days conducting an extensive search
37:24At an undisclosed location
37:26That search led to the recovery of human remains
37:29And through DNA analysis
37:31That the human remains are those of Mike Williams
37:34Further forensic analysis concluded
37:37That Mike Williams was in fact murdered
37:39I know this new information raises only more questions
37:43How was Mike murdered?
37:45Where was the new information obtained from?
37:48And do you have any suspects?
37:50Right now, I cannot and will not answer those questions
37:54Hearing the news that Mike not only had been found
37:59But that he had been murdered
38:00Punched you in the gut
38:01I mean, I think it's one thing to lose a person
38:04But to know that that person potentially suffered
38:08Is a lot harder thing to wrap your brain around
38:10Why would someone want to harm him?
38:14Or what gives him the right
38:15To think that they could do that
38:16To my friend
38:17Or a husband
38:18Or, you know, a father
38:20And Cheryl Williams
38:23The only thing that got her through this
38:25Is the hope that she would still see her son alive one day
38:28And to then tell her that that's never going to happen
38:32Crushed her
38:33And now know that my friend was murdered
38:37This means that what we've been dealing with
38:40Has all been a farce
38:42It's been staged
38:44For all of us to believe something that wasn't for 17 years
38:49Mike did not drown while hunting on Lake Seminole
38:53They found his body at the end of a road called Gardner Road
38:57Which is north of Tallahassee
38:59It's just a dead end into Carr Lake
39:02The location where Mike's body is discovered
39:05Is an hour from Lake Seminole
39:08And just five miles from his mother Cheryl's front door
39:13Obviously, it wasn't a coincidence
39:17That the police found the remains
39:20Someone had to tell them where they were
39:22The identity of that someone
39:25Is revealed in 2018
39:27As part of his plea deal with prosecutors
39:30Brian Winchester reveals his involvement in Mike's homicide
39:34On sworn confession tapes
39:36According to Brian, Denise's solution to avoid divorce
40:02Was to kill her husband
40:04With Mike out of the picture
40:06It would allow Brian and Denise to be together
40:08But that was not the only motive for the murder
40:11I remember statements being made like
40:14It'd be good to be with you
40:16But to have the money too would be better
40:18She would say this
40:20Yeah
40:20According to Brian, the plan was that he would go duck hunting
40:26With Mike at Lake Seminole
40:27Then when Mike had his waders on in the boat
40:30Brian would push Mike into the water
40:33She wanted in her mind
40:36A scenario where
40:38It wasn't a murder
40:41But it was
40:43An accident
40:44But the problem is
40:47When Brian pushes Mike
40:49Out of the boat
40:50Mike doesn't sink in his waders
40:53And actually he's able to get his waders off
40:58And Brian panics
41:01I didn't know what to do
41:03And I ended up shooting him
41:08After the murder
41:14Brian drove Mike's corpse
41:16Out to the remote edge of Tallahassee
41:19Onto Gardner Road
41:21Was this an area that you frequented?
41:25I knew the area
41:25Then Brian buries his best friend's body
41:30In a swampy hole two feet deep
41:33He was clothed
41:36And still wearing his wedding ring
41:38Five months after Mike's remains are found
41:49Authorities arrest his widow
41:51Denise Williams
41:52At her workplace
41:53And charge her with first degree murder
41:55Do you have anything you want to say to Cheryl?
42:00Or anything you want to say at all?
42:04According to Denise's attorney
42:06She is innocent
42:08She had nothing to do
42:11With the death of her husband
42:13The news of Denise's alleged involvement
42:17In Mike's homicide
42:18Has sent shockwaves
42:20Through this close-knit circle of friends
42:22Mike had a good spirit
42:25And it just flat makes me mad
42:27This kid
42:29Didn't deserve to be murdered
42:31He was a good kid
42:33To do that
42:35And then tried to hide it
42:37That's just wrong
42:38Cheryl has said
42:41She is thankful
42:42That her former daughter-in-law
42:43Is behind bars
42:44But she does worry
42:45About her granddaughter
42:46I can't imagine
42:49What it's like on Ansley
42:50I would hope
42:55That she would learn
42:56A little bit more
42:57About her father
42:57And she ever wants
42:59To know about
43:00I think until we get
43:11To the end of the story
43:13Until we have a trial
43:15And get a conviction
43:16There's no closure
43:18With what happened
43:19From what happened
43:20To the end of the story
