00:00Hi there, my name is Tafik Falaran. I'm an actor, a writer and artist with a background in psychology.
00:12And I explore mental health and also healing through my artistry work.
00:17Intersectionality helps us recognise that people's experiences at work are shaped by multiple overlapping aspects of their identity,
00:25such as race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background and more.
00:34These identities don't exist in isolation. They interact in complex ways that influence how individuals are perceived, treated and supported in the workplace.
00:43As an Afro queer Black man, my life carries layers of identity that intersect in complex ways.
00:49So for my own colleagues, it means recognising that race, sexuality, health, stigma, they all overlap.
00:56And that these intersections shape my experiences differently than someone who holds just one of these identities.
01:02Support means seeing the whole picture, not just the parts that are easy to talk about.
01:08Knowing that intersectionality exists in the workplace and beyond just the LGBTQ plus community,
01:14it's important to practice allyship and be sensitive to how your actions and the actions of others impact others,
01:23even when you don't immediately see it.
01:26So on that note, I just want to wish you all a very happy Pride.
