31 May - National weather forecast presented by Tom Morgan.
Transcript
00:00Hello again. It was a warm and muggy end to meteorological spring for many of us,
00:05and some will see pretty sunsets like this tonight.
00:08But it's not the same for everyone. In the north and the west, we've got some showers,
00:12or longer spells of rain through the course of this evening and overnight.
00:15Those showers tended to migrate their way slowly eastwards across England and Wales too,
00:19but many places in the south and the east staying largely dry.
00:23The showers, though, really start to pack in once again, though, as we go into the early hours
00:26for Northern Ireland, northern and western Scotland, some longer spells of rain arriving here,
00:31some heavy bursts and the odd rumble of thunder by the morning too,
00:34and those winds starting to increase once again as well.
00:38For all of us, though, it will be a fresher night compared to of late,
00:41perhaps the one exception being the far south east of England,
00:43where we'll hold on to something a little warmer and more humid.
00:47But it's here that we'll start on a fairly bright, if not sunny note on Sunday morning.
00:51Blue skies and lots of sunshine for many parts of England and Wales.
00:54The cloud will tend to bubble up as we go through the morning,
00:57and showers will certainly break out across Wales and northern England.
01:01And after a fairly wet morning across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland,
01:05by the afternoon, a mixture of sunshine and heavy showers here.
01:08Some of those showers will be on the heavy side, as I say,
01:11with the chance of the odd rumble of thunder.
01:13And for all of us, it will be a more blustery day tomorrow,
01:16those winds coming in from a westy direction,
01:19meaning it will start to feel a bit fresher than it did on Saturday,
01:22especially in the south, where we'll have lost some of that humidity.
01:26But nonetheless, temperatures still above average,
01:29highs of 22 or 23 in places, so feeling pleasantly warm in that sunshine,
01:33although quite a bit cooler out towards the north and the west,
01:36and the winds potentially touching gale force in some coastal regions.
01:41The showers will continue as we go into Sunday evening,
01:44most prevalent across the north and the west,
01:46and still a few heavy ones here and there.
01:48It's starting to turn gradually dry, though, into the early hours of Monday morning,
01:53with skies clearing for many and temperatures falling perhaps
01:56into the high single figures in some rural areas,
01:59but most towns and cities in the south at least staying in double figures.
02:04Now, for Monday, it's looking like a fine day if you have plans.
02:07A bit of cloud in the morning, but many places starting the day on a sunny note.
02:12And as we go through the day, some fair weather cloud bubbling up,
02:15just bringing one or two showers for central parts of the UK and more especially the east.
02:19But many places staying dry with long periods of sunshine
02:22and feeling pleasantly warm with high levels of UV,
02:2621 to 22 degrees in some places,
02:29so still a little bit above average in the south.
02:31But certainly quite a big change later in the day across the northwest.
02:35The wind's starting to strengthen quite rapidly across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland,
02:40and that's a sign of things to come as we go into Monday evening.
02:45This area of low pressure then is expected to deepen
02:47and bring this band of heavy rain eastwards on Monday night and into Tuesday.
02:51And as well as that, some quite unusually strong winds for the time of year.
02:54So winds gusting over 60 miles per hour for some northern and western coasts
02:59as we go into Tuesday morning.
03:00So do keep in touch with the forecast if you do have plans for Monday night and Tuesday,
03:05or if you're off camping, for example,
03:07there could be some pretty unsettled weather on the way.
