29 May - National weather forecast by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Hello, very good day to you. We did have some pretty wet weather earlier on today, especially
00:05across northern parts further south. It stayed largely dry, but the more persistent rain
00:10that has now cleared away towards the east. That's along the warm front. Behind it, there
00:14is a trailing cold front that will bring a bit more rain to come, but we have seen the
00:19heaviest, most persistent rain push through. So as we go into this afternoon, all the time
00:24towards the southeast staying largely dry, some decent bright sunny spells breaking out
00:29as well. Otherwise, yes, there will be some further outbreaks of rain, but they're mainly
00:34going to be over the higher ground over western parts, a few sherry bursts possible elsewhere.
00:40Downwind of any higher ground, there's a greater chance of seeing some brighter spells, but
00:44like I said, the best chance of sunshine, well, in the far north of Scotland, but also the
00:48south-southeast of England. And here, temperatures are going to be at their highest. We're looking
00:52at highs of around 22, 23 Celsius, a few degrees fresher than this, maybe low 20s for some parts
00:58of eastern, northeastern England, if you do get any decent brightness. But worth bearing in mind,
01:03there is a blustery wind coming in. It's coming from the southwest, but actually, there's a bit
01:08of a muggy, humid feel to things. So yes, actually feeling pretty warm for many places.
01:13Then as we go through this evening and overnight, more sherry bursts of rain at times coming in
01:19from the west, as south-southeastern parts avoiding this, so staying dry with some clear skies.
01:24With that trailing cold front that I mentioned earlier, there will be some more persistent
01:27rain across parts of northern Scotland, and also a bit more cloud across parts of Wales,
01:34central northern England, bringing some further drizzly rain here. Otherwise, there will be
01:38some clear breaks, but temperatures not dropping much because of that relatively humid air. And so
01:43most places holding up well into double figures. So a pretty mild start to the day on Friday morning.
01:49Then as we go through Friday itself, well, we still have some outbreaks of rain across parts of Scotland.
01:55They will gradually make their way a little bit further southwards. So actually, we're kind of
02:00going to end up with three, maybe four zones of weather as we go through Friday. Northern Scotland
02:05having a good deal of fine sunny weather as we go into the afternoon. Then more southern parts of
02:10Scotland into northern England, across northern Ireland, showery bursts, some bright sunny spells
02:15in between. Then across parts of the North Midlands into Wales, a bit cloudier here, some drizzly rain,
02:22particularly over any modest higher ground. And then towards the south, we're looking at a largely
02:27fine picture, not really expecting any rain to arrive. And there should be some decent sunshine
02:32and even higher temperatures than today. We're looking at highs of around 23, 24 Celsius towards the
02:38south. And those winds coming from the southwest still, but they're going to be a bit lighter
02:42on Friday than they are today. And so probably feeling a fair bit warmer for most, especially across
02:47northern parts where there's been quite a bit of rain so far today. Otherwise, then, as we go through
02:52into this weekend, and it is looking like we're going to stick with that northwest southeast split.
02:57So some further wet weather piling into northern and western parts in particular as we go through Saturday
03:03and into Sunday. Saturday is looking pretty fine and also warmer in the southeast. Highs of around 25, 26,
03:10possibly even 27 Celsius. But it does look like Saturday is going to be the warmest day for sure.
03:16By Sunday, although southern parts still staying largely dry, it is going to be markedly fresher for all of us.
03:23For a more in-depth look at what we can expect through this weekend, then make sure you check out our weekend
03:28forecast, which will be available with Alex Deacon later on today. I'll see you again soon. Bye-bye.
