Hello, very good day to you. There's going to be quite a lot of weather to come as we
00:04
go through the rest of this week. Earlier on today there was a ridge of high pressure
00:08
across us so it was relatively quiet for a time. But if we look at the jet stream, it's
00:13
very strong, very active and it's going to push across the UK and within the jet we could
00:17
see speeds of around 250 miles per hour. So it's no real surprise that we're going to
00:22
see some very unsettled weather arriving. Initially, an area of low pressure that's
00:27
going to track somewhere to the north of the UK as we go through the end of today
00:31
and overnight into tomorrow, bringing some very wet and windy weather to many parts for
00:34
a time. Then another system comes through on Thursday, again bringing some heavy rain
00:39
and strong winds. Ridge of high pressure on Friday may quieten things down for a period
00:44
of time but for another feature arrives on Saturday. This could be a particularly deep
00:49
area of low pressure. Still some uncertainty about how deep it's going to be, how intense
00:54
and also the exact track how north or south it's going to push. And so as a result, uncertainty
01:00
about the impacts but worth keeping up to date on this one because it could cause some
01:04
problems. However, if we go back to this afternoon, some glimmers of sunshine, pretty weak sunshine
01:09
at this time of year. But nonetheless, some of us seeing some bright blue skies, particularly
01:13
towards central eastern areas. Further west, the cloud will be building and some wet and
01:18
windy weather will be sweeping its way in initially across parts of Northern Ireland.
01:22
Later on, as we go through the afternoon into western parts of Scotland and some outbreaks
01:26
pushing into the far west of England and Wales as well. Staying drier towards the east, but
01:31
here it is going to be pretty chilly. Temperatures struggling mid single figures in some places.
01:36
Further west with the cloud, the rain, the wind, we are going to see some milder air.
01:40
So temperatures are lifting a little bit here. Now, as we go through this evening and overnight,
01:45
the heaviest rain is going to push its way across many parts of Scotland and perhaps
01:49
the far north of England, too. It should rattle through relatively quickly, but nonetheless,
01:54
we could see totals over higher ground building up around 30 to 40 millimetres, perhaps also
01:58
some very strong winds towards the north northwest of Scotland, gusts of around 65 to 70, perhaps
02:04
a bit stronger than that in some exposed spots. Further south across England and Wales, the
02:08
rain may actually take a little bit longer to push its way through. Perhaps won't be
02:12
quite as intense as further north. But nonetheless, again, we could see some high rainfall totals
02:17
building up overnight again over perhaps the Brecon Beacons, Dartmoor, other high ground,
02:22
for example. We could also see 30 to 40 millimetres. And with the ground pretty saturated after
02:27
the heavy rain that we had towards the end of November, we could see some localised issues.
02:32
The rain clinging on in the southeast as we head towards the or through the early hours
02:37
of tomorrow morning. And that rain also is going to do something quite interesting with
02:41
our temperatures, a chilly start to the night for some of us. But as that rain pushes its
02:45
way in, many of us are going to see our temperatures lifting through the night. So a relatively
02:49
mild start for many of us first thing tomorrow morning. That rain in the southeast, though,
02:54
through tomorrow will clear away quite quickly. And then we are going to have something a
02:58
bit dry. Yes, some showery outbreaks coming in from the west, but many places having some
03:03
dry and perhaps brighter weather for a time before that next system that I mentioned earlier
03:08
comes through as we go through Thursday afternoon. And this is likely to bring some heavy bursts
03:13
of rain a bit more or less widespread compared to the feature coming through this evening
03:18
and overnight. But where we see the rain, it could be pretty heavy. And with the ground
03:23
being very saturated after the heavy rain just before it, this could cause some issues.
03:28
So again, we could see some problems, some localised flooding where we see this heavy
03:32
rain arriving. We are going to see our temperatures a little bit above average for the time of
03:37
year as we go through tomorrow and the wind strengthening as well. So another warning
03:42
in force across parts of northern England into a northern island as well due to the
03:48
nature of this band of showery rain that's pushing its way through. We could have some
03:52
very strong gusts and that could cause some problems as we go through later on this week.
03:56
And yes, Friday does look like a quieter date for many of us. But then there's the potential
04:02
for some very heavy rain and some strong winds as we go into the weekend. So definitely worth
04:06
keeping up to date with that one. And then fairly strong signs of a more settled spell
04:12
as we go towards the beginning of next week. We will, of course, be keeping you up to date
04:16
with everything as we go through the next couple of days. But you'll definitely want
04:19
to check out the 10 day trend with Anna later on. Bye bye.
