Hello, very good morning to you. As we go through the next few days in the run-up
00:03
to Christmas, it is going to be fairly unsettled for most of us. There'll be
00:06
some strong blustery winds still, further outbreaks of rain and also a little bit
00:10
of wintriness, particularly across parts of Scotland. The higher ground here as we
00:14
go through Friday, likely to see some sleet or snow developing, especially for
00:18
Shetland. Here a few centimetres of snow is possible and there's also going to be
00:23
a bit of an ice risk and with some strong blustery winds, blizzard
00:26
conditions are a possibility as well. Elsewhere through the day, outbreaks of
00:30
rain across many northern parts, some of them could be a little bit on the heavy
00:33
side, a bit drier further south and in fact across some parts of the southwest
00:38
and even in South Wales, we may see some bright or possibly even sunny skies
00:42
developing for a time as we go through the afternoon. It is going to be a mild
00:46
picture for many of us, temperatures peaking around 12, possibly 13 Celsius
00:51
towards the south, but across far northern parts of Scotland we have some
00:54
cold air here, hence why we're likely to see some winteriness and why
00:58
temperatures will be a little bit suppressed, some places staying in mid
01:01
single figures. As we go through the end of the day on Friday, we stick with those
01:06
strong blustery winds and we have some more persistent rain then that is going
01:09
to push in initially across parts of Scotland. On the leading edge of this, I
01:14
am expecting to see some further snow, so we could see some snow accumulations
01:18
building up as we go through the day on Saturday. Heavy persistent rain then
01:22
affecting western parts of Scotland too, whilst further south across many parts of
01:26
England, Wales and Northern Ireland, it's a largely dry picture with often cloudy
01:31
skies. Because of the cloudy skies and some strong blustery winds still, again
01:35
temperatures aren't going to drop much. Similar to last night really, some places
01:39
staying in double figures, many places holding up in single digits, but across
01:43
the far northeast of Scotland, again we could see temperatures dipping to around
01:47
or perhaps a little bit below freezing for some here. Saturday then is going to
01:51
be a wet day, particularly across Scotland. Here some heavy rain continuing
01:56
for western parts and a bit more snow then, particularly towards the northeast.
02:00
Elsewhere and some rains likely across Northern Ireland, Northern England,
02:03
perhaps parts of Wales as well, but for much of England and Wales it is looking
02:08
mostly dry but rather cloudy and still blustery. A mild picture still, most
02:13
places peaking to highs just into double figures, 10 to 12 Celsius, that kind of
02:19
thing, but still with that colder air across the far northeast of the UK, so a
02:23
much chillier feel to things here. As we look towards Christmas Eve and that rain
02:28
across northern parts will have pushed its way a little bit further southwards.
02:31
I'm expecting the heaviest rain to be across parts of Western, Northern Wales
02:35
and also Northwest England, could see some localized impacts here. A cloudy
02:39
story across the rest of England and Wales, though mostly dry, with blustery
02:44
showers then affecting parts of Scotland and these could still have a little bit
02:48
of winteriness mixed in, so perhaps some sneet or snow over the highest ground.
02:52
Notice those winds still on the strong side, so even though temperatures will be
02:55
peaking around 13, possibly even 14 Celsius, it is going to feel colder than
03:00
that. This rain then gradually makes its way southwards as we go into Christmas
03:05
Day. I emphasize gradually because it could take quite a while to clear as we
03:09
go through the day itself. As a result, some parts of the south-southeast may
03:13
have a pretty wet Christmas Day before that rain clears as we go into the
03:17
evening. There will be some drier weather elsewhere but also showers, blustery
03:21
showers across northern areas and these bring the risk of some hill snow, so
03:26
technically there's a fairly good chance that it will be a white Christmas, albeit
03:29
just in the form of a few wintry showers as opposed to anything more picturesque
03:34
for the bulk of us. Anyway, we will keep you up to date with the full forecast
03:37
through the festive period, so you do stay updated across our YouTube channel,
03:42
our app and our website. I'll see you again soon, bye bye.
