Hello, welcome to your latest updates from the Met Office.
00:03
This weekend's kind of can be summed up
00:05
as dry, but rather drab.
00:07
Lots of cloud across the country, but not much rain,
00:10
thanks to this chunky area of high pressure.
00:13
It's been ambling in from the West,
00:15
and it's here to stay, sticking around throughout the weekend
00:20
and beyond.
00:21
At times, weak weather fronts will
00:23
affect the far Northwest, and the isobars squidging together
00:26
here as well.
00:27
So it's going to be breezy, getting particularly
00:29
gusty across the far North later on Sunday.
00:31
But for most, under this area of high pressure,
00:33
the winds will be light.
00:35
But there is going to be quite a lot of cloud around.
00:38
Certainly, more cloud on Friday nights
00:39
will mean it's not as cold.
00:42
Yes, we'll see some breaks in the cloud.
00:43
Of course, the eastern pockets of frost are still possible.
00:46
But for most, we will be staying above freezing,
00:50
thanks to that cloud.
00:51
The thick cloud in the Northwest,
00:52
still bringing a bit of drizzly rain
00:54
to the Highlands and the Western Isles.
00:56
Quite breezy here as well, so that
00:57
will keep the temperatures up here, 7 or 8 degrees.
01:00
Most towns and cities, 2 or 3 degrees Celsius.
01:03
But as I said, some pockets of frost
01:05
are still possible where the skies do stay clear.
01:09
And of course, where the skies stay clear,
01:11
should lead to some sunshine on Saturday morning.
01:13
But that's going to be in short supply.
01:14
For most, it's going to be a grey start.
01:16
It'll be eastern England, northeast Scotland,
01:18
and perhaps parts of the south that
01:20
do see some breaks in the cloud and a bit of sunshine.
01:23
Whereas the hills of Northwest England,
01:25
and certainly across the Highlands and Argyll and Bute,
01:28
there will be outbreaks of rain and drizzle.
01:30
The far north of Scotland may brighten up, actually,
01:33
later in the day.
01:33
And it's here, Caithness, Sutherland,
01:35
down to the Moray coastline, where
01:37
we'll see the top temperatures, 10, 11, maybe 12 Celsius.
01:41
Elsewhere, we're looking at 8 or 9 degrees,
01:43
a little bit warmer than Friday.
01:45
But of course, you won't have as much sunshine, certainly not
01:48
across the south and the east.
01:50
So fairly gloomy skies persisting
01:52
through a Saturday afternoon, and not much
01:54
changing through Saturday evening.
01:56
The rain may tend to peter out for a time
01:58
across the northwest.
01:59
And elsewhere, it just stays dry and cloudy
02:02
as we head into Sunday.
02:03
Similar story, then, there will be some breaks
02:05
in the cloud on Sunday, so a bit of sunshine
02:07
possible for parts of Wales, northeast England,
02:10
again, northeast Scotland, but the Highlands,
02:13
the Western Isles continuing to see a bit of drizzle.
02:15
And as I said at the start, that wind
02:17
starting to strengthen further here.
02:19
It's going to be a breezy weekend,
02:20
but gets very gusty by the end of Sunday.
02:23
Elsewhere, the winds are light, some temperatures again,
02:25
probably just about getting up to 7, 8, or 9 Celsius.
02:29
A little higher if we do see any spells of sunshine
02:32
coming through.
02:34
As for the outlook, well, high pressure remains in charge.
02:37
So even well into next week, it looks like largely dry
02:40
conditions will persist.
02:41
More information on all of that, of course,
02:43
if you follow us across social media.
