00:00Hello, welcome to your latest national weather forecast.

00:03The weather continues to keep us on our toes.

00:05And yes, the winds will be picking up once more

00:08during Wednesday.

00:10This weather front has been sinking its way southwards

00:12across the country on Tuesday.

00:14Another one follows, almost a repeat performance

00:17through Wednesday, but a couple of subtle differences.

00:20This one's slower and so lingers more

00:22across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

00:24The isobars are closer together, so it is going to be windier.

00:27This little kink in the isobars here

00:30is indicative of the winds bouncing over the Pennines.

00:32So we're a bit concerned about the gusts

00:34across parts of north-east England and south-east Scotland.

00:39Let's get back to Tuesday evening,

00:40however, because the winds are finally easing off.

00:44And the relatively calm conditions with clear skies

00:46will allow temperatures to fall, certainly

00:48across England and Wales.

00:49Maybe a touch of frost across north-east Scotland

00:52for a time before the cloud spills in across the far north

00:55once more, and the winds start to increase later here

00:59in the night.

00:59But as I say, temperatures will drop down

01:01with the clearer skies and the lighter winds.

01:04Enough of a breeze to stop too much of a frost,

01:06but certainly some pockets of frost,

01:07likely in the countryside across parts of England and Wales.

01:11So a chilly start, but actually a bright, fine start

01:14for much of the Midlands, eastern England,

01:16and southern England.

01:17More rain, though, to come from this next weather front

01:19across Scotland, and it only slowly

01:22drifts southwards through the central belt

01:24and across Northern Ireland during the morning.

01:26But once it arrives, it kind of lingers here.

01:28So quite a wet afternoon for central southern Scotland

01:31and Northern Ireland.

01:32It will be rain here, but over the hills further north,

01:35increasingly we're going to see some snow coming in.

01:38Across England and Wales, most of the day will be dry.

01:41We will see a scattering of showers

01:43for the Midlands, parts of southern England, and south

01:45Wales.

01:46We will see some sunny spells as well.

01:48But all the while, the wind's picking up.

01:50And as I said, we are a bit concerned about the winds

01:52coming over the Pennines and really increasing the gusts.

01:56So across the far north-east of England

01:57into southeast Scotland, we could see gusts of 50,

02:01possibly for a time even 60 miles an hour.

02:03And after recent storms, that could

02:05cause a bit of disruption.

02:07So we do have a yellow warning in place.

02:10Temperature-wise, well, still above average across the south.

02:12Obviously not feeling all that mild

02:14as the winds start to pick up.

02:16And the colder air is arriving behind this next cold front.

02:20And that's the next area for concern

02:23as we start to see the weather turning more and more wintry

02:25in the northwest.

02:26The snow showers coming down to increasingly lower levels

02:30as we go through the day.

02:31Rain bands sinking south across England and Wales,

02:34introducing that colder air.

02:36We do have another Met Office yellow warning

02:39in place for the snow showers through Wednesday afternoon,

02:42evening, and overnight.

02:44We could easily see 2 to 5 centimetres

02:46even at low levels in this yellow warning area,

02:49but maybe as much as 7 to 10 centimetres.

02:52And over hills, easily 20 to maybe 30 centimetres.

02:55Now, this is showers, so they're going to be hit and miss.

02:58Not everywhere in this yellow warning area

03:00is going to see these kind of amounts,

03:01but the kind of amounts that we certainly

03:03could see in any one location.

03:06And with these winds whipping up again,

03:08particularly for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland

03:10on the coasts, 60 maybe in exposed areas,

03:1370 miles an hour.

03:15So again, we could see some disruption for that

03:18after structures have been weakened,

03:19but also going to blow the snow around.

03:21So we are going to see blizzards.

03:23So some pretty horrible travelling conditions

03:26if you get caught in one of those heavy snow showers

03:28with those gusty winds.

03:29And that's through Wednesday night and well into Thursday

03:33because the wintry showers will keep going here.

03:36And maybe some for Northern England too.

03:38Mostly here, the snow will be over the hills,

03:40but we could see some down to lower levels.

03:42A few scattered rain showers across the south as well

03:45once that rain band has cleared away.

03:47But again, we will see some good spells of sunshine,

03:51but a cold wind.

03:52We're all in the proper cold air by Thursday.

03:55So temperatures below average for the time of year,

03:58certainly well below where they have been

03:59for most of this week.

04:01Add on the wind and it will feel even colder on Thursday,

04:05leading to a chilly night,

04:06but actually by and large,

04:07some fine weather around on Friday.

04:10Plenty still going on with the weather.
