00:00
Hello, welcome to your latest national weather forecast.
00:03
The weather continues to keep us on our toes.
00:05
And yes, the winds will be picking up once more
00:08
during Wednesday.
00:10
This weather front has been sinking its way southwards
00:12
across the country on Tuesday.
00:14
Another one follows, almost a repeat performance
00:17
through Wednesday, but a couple of subtle differences.
00:20
This one's slower and so lingers more
00:22
across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:24
The isobars are closer together, so it is going to be windier.
00:27
This little kink in the isobars here
00:30
is indicative of the winds bouncing over the Pennines.
00:32
So we're a bit concerned about the gusts
00:34
across parts of north-east England and south-east Scotland.
00:39
Let's get back to Tuesday evening,
00:40
however, because the winds are finally easing off.
00:44
And the relatively calm conditions with clear skies
00:46
will allow temperatures to fall, certainly
00:48
across England and Wales.
00:49
Maybe a touch of frost across north-east Scotland
00:52
for a time before the cloud spills in across the far north
00:55
once more, and the winds start to increase later here
00:59
in the night.
00:59
But as I say, temperatures will drop down
01:01
with the clearer skies and the lighter winds.
01:04
Enough of a breeze to stop too much of a frost,
01:06
but certainly some pockets of frost,
01:07
likely in the countryside across parts of England and Wales.
01:11
So a chilly start, but actually a bright, fine start
01:14
for much of the Midlands, eastern England,
01:16
and southern England.
01:17
More rain, though, to come from this next weather front
01:19
across Scotland, and it only slowly
01:22
drifts southwards through the central belt
01:24
and across Northern Ireland during the morning.
01:26
But once it arrives, it kind of lingers here.
01:28
So quite a wet afternoon for central southern Scotland
01:31
and Northern Ireland.
01:32
It will be rain here, but over the hills further north,
01:35
increasingly we're going to see some snow coming in.
01:38
Across England and Wales, most of the day will be dry.
01:41
We will see a scattering of showers
01:43
for the Midlands, parts of southern England, and south
01:45
Wales.
01:46
We will see some sunny spells as well.
01:48
But all the while, the wind's picking up.
01:50
And as I said, we are a bit concerned about the winds
01:52
coming over the Pennines and really increasing the gusts.
01:56
So across the far north-east of England
01:57
into southeast Scotland, we could see gusts of 50,
02:01
possibly for a time even 60 miles an hour.
02:03
And after recent storms, that could
02:05
cause a bit of disruption.
02:07
So we do have a yellow warning in place.
02:10
Temperature-wise, well, still above average across the south.
02:12
Obviously not feeling all that mild
02:14
as the winds start to pick up.
02:16
And the colder air is arriving behind this next cold front.
02:20
And that's the next area for concern
02:23
as we start to see the weather turning more and more wintry
02:25
in the northwest.
02:26
The snow showers coming down to increasingly lower levels
02:30
as we go through the day.
02:31
Rain bands sinking south across England and Wales,
02:34
introducing that colder air.
02:36
We do have another Met Office yellow warning
02:39
in place for the snow showers through Wednesday afternoon,
02:42
evening, and overnight.
02:44
We could easily see 2 to 5 centimetres
02:46
even at low levels in this yellow warning area,
02:49
but maybe as much as 7 to 10 centimetres.
02:52
And over hills, easily 20 to maybe 30 centimetres.
02:55
Now, this is showers, so they're going to be hit and miss.
02:58
Not everywhere in this yellow warning area
03:00
is going to see these kind of amounts,
03:01
but the kind of amounts that we certainly
03:03
could see in any one location.
03:06
And with these winds whipping up again,
03:08
particularly for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland
03:10
on the coasts, 60 maybe in exposed areas,
03:13
70 miles an hour.
03:15
So again, we could see some disruption for that
03:18
after structures have been weakened,
03:19
but also going to blow the snow around.
03:21
So we are going to see blizzards.
03:23
So some pretty horrible travelling conditions
03:26
if you get caught in one of those heavy snow showers
03:28
with those gusty winds.
03:29
And that's through Wednesday night and well into Thursday
03:33
because the wintry showers will keep going here.
03:36
And maybe some for Northern England too.
03:38
Mostly here, the snow will be over the hills,
03:40
but we could see some down to lower levels.
03:42
A few scattered rain showers across the south as well
03:45
once that rain band has cleared away.
03:47
But again, we will see some good spells of sunshine,
03:51
but a cold wind.
03:52
We're all in the proper cold air by Thursday.
03:55
So temperatures below average for the time of year,
03:58
certainly well below where they have been
03:59
for most of this week.
04:01
Add on the wind and it will feel even colder on Thursday,
04:05
leading to a chilly night,
04:06
but actually by and large,
04:07
some fine weather around on Friday.
04:10
Plenty still going on with the weather.
04:12
So make sure you do keep up to date with the very latest.
04:15
Best way to do that,
04:16
is to follow us on social media.
