Hello again. It's been a dry day for many of us away from the far north of Scotland
00:05
here. It's been a much wetter story because we've had a front lying here and that's brought
00:10
some heavy persistent rain with totals building up. That front's going to continue to sit
00:15
over northern Scotland for a little while yet, but that rain will be easing as we go
00:19
overnight into Tuesday. Otherwise, across many parts of the country, a dry day and a
00:24
largely dry night. A few spots of rain here or there, but also some clear skies across
00:29
central and eastern parts in particular, although the cloud is going to be building as we go
00:33
through the early hours of Tuesday morning. With the cloud building, there's the risk
00:37
of some low cloud developing, particularly across southern parts. This could bring some
00:41
murkiness, some hill fog, and there will be a few spots of rain as well, particularly
00:45
across western parts of Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland. Here we'll have some wetter
00:49
weather starting to push its way in as we head towards dawn. With all the cloud and
00:53
some mild air across us at the moment, temperatures not really dropping a huge amount overnight,
00:58
a pretty mild start to the day on Tuesday morning for many of us, but with that, a blustery
01:04
start and we're actually going to see the wind strengthening through the day. If we
01:07
take a closer look at that, and we have a low pressure system coming through, and here
01:11
are our gusts. You can see around exposed coastal parts of western UK and later on across
01:16
northern parts as we go overnight into Wednesday, there's a risk of gales in those coastal areas
01:21
in particular, but even inland it is going to turn quite blustery. By the time we get
01:26
to Wednesday itself, the strongest winds will really be for the northern isles where
01:29
it could be pretty windy indeed. If we look at the details though for Tuesday, and like
01:34
I said, a bit of a wet start across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, that rain
01:38
becoming more widespread through the morning could be quite heavy at times too, so some
01:42
heavy rain to go alongside those blustery winds for some parts. Across the rest of the
01:47
country, across central southern parts of England and Wales in particular, and especially
01:51
towards the east, actually staying largely dry here and there should be some breaks in
01:55
the cloud. Perhaps a bit cloudier than on Monday, but nonetheless some sunshine at
02:00
times, and it's a bit further west that we'll start to see some outbreaks of rain pushing
02:04
its way in as we go through into the latter stages of the day. The winds will be picking
02:10
up and so the winds will make it feel colder than these temperatures suggest, but they
02:14
are a little bit above average for the time of year, or a fair bit above average for some
02:19
places. So a mild day, albeit a blustery or windy day with some wet weather towards the
02:24
north and west in particular. That rain then in the northwest becomes more widespread as
02:29
we go through Tuesday evening and overnight. So, although it will be a dry day towards
02:33
the southeast, it will turn damp or wet at times as we go into Wednesday morning. So
02:38
a pretty wet blustery night to come, and with that then temperatures again not dropping
02:43
a huge amount at all. In fact, many places are staying in the high single figures or
02:47
low double digits, so a very mild start to the day, albeit a rather unsettled one. As
02:53
we go through Wednesday itself then, a lot of cloud, a lot of outbreaks of rain, not
02:58
especially heavy, but some wet weather to be had, and those blustery winds, like I said,
03:02
becoming confined largely just to the far north. A lot of that clears away for a time,
03:06
but then we have another system coming in later on Wednesday and that's going to bring
03:10
some heavier, more persistent rain from the southwest as we go through later Wednesday
03:14
into Thursday. But temperatures on Wednesday are actually going to be even higher than
03:20
through the start of this week, rising as some even milder air gets dragged in. So mid-teens
03:25
for quite a few places, albeit towards the north, will start to see our temperatures
03:29
dropping as we go through the day as some colder air starts to make its way in. As we
03:33
look further ahead through the rest of the week, and yes, we have this wet weather that's
03:37
going to push its way across central southern parts, could see some high totals, could see
03:41
some issues as we go through Thursday. But that then clears away, a ridge of high pressure
03:45
quietens things down for a short period of time before another front pushes its way through
03:49
as we go through Friday. With that, we are going to see our temperatures dropping quite
03:54
markedly as we go towards the end of the week. And so it is going to be much colder by Thursday
03:58
or Friday than it is at the moment. For more information about that, check out our week
04:03
ahead video. Otherwise, I'll see you again soon. Bye bye.
