01:48From ABC News World Headquarters in New York, this is World News Tonight with David Muir.
01:56Good evening. It's great to have you with us here at a very busy Thursday night.
01:59We begin tonight with these deadly storms on the move right now from Texas to the southeast.
02:03Then these storms move right up the East Coast. At least one person dead tonight swept away in the floods.
02:08And drivers sheltering under a roof. Time-lapse video tonight of a massive supercell thunderstorm rolling across Oklahoma's panhandle right there.
02:16Austin, Texas slammed with high winds and hail. Trees pulled right up from their roots.
02:21Drivers racing to shelter under the roof of this gas station. And some roads suddenly turn to rivers.
02:26Multiple water rescues being reported again tonight. At least one person dead.
02:29Lee Goldberg standing by with the forecast. These storms from the south moving right into the northeast.
02:34But ABC's Maria Villarreal leading us off with the images coming in already tonight.
02:39Tonight, powerful storms targeting central Texas with the threat of high winds and more hail after scenes like this in Austin overnight.
02:49Golf ball-sized hail and torrential rain.
02:54Winds gusting over 80 miles an hour, snapping trees.
02:57Oh, my God.
02:58Mary Escamilla shot this video from her front porch.
03:03Raging waters in North Austin. At least one person reportedly swept away and killed.
03:10Cars sheltering under a gas station canopy in Cedar Park.
03:15The roof of this gas station on the north side of Austin collapsing onto cars below.
03:20No one was hurt.
03:22The thunderstorms sweeping across the southern plains.
03:25This massive supercell looking like a spaceship hovering over western Oklahoma.
03:31And David, it's not over.
03:32There is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for central Texas and parts of New Mexico.
03:37Hail, high winds and tornadoes.
03:39All a possibility throughout the night.
03:41David.
03:42Maria, watching it all for us.
03:44Let's get right to chief meteorologist Lee Goldberg of our New York station WABC timing out these storms as we move into the evening.
03:49Haile.
03:50Hey, David.
03:52Storms taking aim at west Texas again tonight.
03:55A destructive storm southwest of Lubbock right now.
03:5860 mile per hour winds.
03:59Even some baseball-sized hail.
04:01We'll watch from southeastern New Mexico into Texas until 11 o'clock tonight.
04:05There's another area of severe weather.
04:06And that's along the Florida coast into Georgia and South Carolina from Jacksonville to Charleston.
04:11Some big winds and maybe a brief tornado.
04:14The storms move to the east coast tomorrow from the Florida panhandle all the way up into Virginia.
04:19Could be a rough evening commute with some downpours to D.C. and Pittsburgh.
04:22And then it's a soaking rain up to New York City as we go into tomorrow night.
04:26Could be one to two inches here of rain as we go into Saturday.
04:29Severe storms in the afternoon.
04:30David.
04:31Lee Goldberg back with us here tonight.
04:32Lee, thanks as always.
04:33We turn now to the tariff whiplash tonight.
04:35A three-judge panel ruling that the emergency declared by President Trump to impose those sweeping tariffs,
04:40quote, exceeds any tariff authority delegated to the president.
04:44One of those judges appointed by the president himself.
04:47Then late today, an appeals court saying the tariffs can move forward, at least for now.
04:51Companies have already warned they will raise prices and small business owners alarmed by all of this uncertainty.
04:57Rachel Scott at the White House.
05:00Tonight, tariff whiplash.
05:02After a federal court blocked most of President Trump's sweeping tariffs,
05:05saying he does not have the authority to do this.
05:08Tonight, an appeals court just ruling President Trump's tariffs can continue, at least for now.
05:15The tariffs have led to stock market swings, small business uncertainty, and now prices going up.
05:21Retailers suggesting they're paying the price.
05:23Walmart, Macy's, Ford.
05:25Among those signaling, there will be some price hikes because U.S. companies pay for these tariffs.
05:31Tonight, the White House fighting that federal court ruling that called the tariffs unlawful.
05:35President Trump had bypassed Congress, declaring a national emergency to impose the tariffs,
05:40something that's never been done before.
05:42That three-judge panel includes judges appointed by Presidents Reagan, Obama, and Trump himself.
05:49And they ruled that President Trump, using a national emergency declaration,
05:53exceeds any tariff authority delegated to the president.
05:56And then yet another federal judge ruling today, the president does not have the power to, quote,
06:02unilaterally impose tariffs to reorder the global economy.
06:05So I asked the White House today, do they have another route to do this?
06:09Is the administration actively reviewing other avenues, other options to carry out the president's trade policy?
06:16The president's trade policy will continue.
06:18We will comply with the court orders.
06:20But yes, the president has other legal authorities where he can implement tariffs.
06:24But then late today, after both of those rulings, yet a third ruling.
06:28An appeals court saying the president can keep going with some of those tariffs for now,
06:33as the appeals process plays out.
06:35On Wall Street, the market rallying before opening when investors thought some tariffs would be blocked.
06:41Some investors have begun saying about Trump and his tariffs that Trump always chickens out.
06:46Taco for short.
06:47The president not happy when asked about that.
06:50Mr. President, Wall Street analysts have coined a new term called the taco trade.
06:53They're saying Trump always chickens out on your tariff threats.
06:57And that's why markets are higher this week.
06:59What's your response to that?
07:00I kick out.
07:01Chicken out.
07:02Oh, isn't that not chicken out?
07:04I've never heard that.
07:05Six months ago, this country was stone cold dead.
07:09We had a dead country.
07:10We had a country people didn't think it was going to survive.
07:12And you ask a nasty question like that.
07:15It's called negotiation.
07:17And tonight, Elon Musk is done as a special government employee.
07:21The news coming after Musk broke with the president on his budget bill.
07:25Musk concerned about the level of spending that some estimate could add $3.8 trillion over the next 10 years to the deficit.
07:33Overnight thanking the president for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.
07:36And David, we're told that senior officials here at the White House were disappointed by comments from Elon Musk saying that he was disappointed in the president's spending bill,
07:46that it would increase the deficit and undermine the work of Doge.
07:50The White House insists that Musk did leave on good terms.
07:54I'm told that he will continue to serve as an unofficial advisor to the president, even possibly attending meetings here at the White House in the future.
08:01David, Rachel Scott at the White House again tonight.
08:03Thanks, Rachel.
08:04We turn next year to a brutal attack on TSA agents at Miami International Airport.
08:08Tonight, hear the newly released video showing a man punching multiple agents at a checkpoint.
08:13Authorities say the man had assaulted crew members on an international flight the night before and had forced that flight to divert to Miami.
08:19Then the horrific scene at that checkpoint.
08:21Here's Victor Akendo from Florida.
08:24Tonight, the man seen here throwing wild punches at officers at a Miami TSA checkpoint
08:29is facing multiple years behind bars.
08:32It was December 28th during the height of holiday travel.
08:36The night before, 28-year-old Cameron McDougal, a Canadian citizen,
08:40allegedly assaulted someone on a Copa Airlines flight from Panama City, Panama to Toronto, that flight diverting to Miami.
08:48Authorities say he was taken off that flight but not arrested and allowed to book on another airline.
08:54He was allowed to land, was not arrested, but the question is, did police tell any of the U.S. airlines that this guy had been violent on the previous flight?
09:04He was back at Miami International Airport the next day.
09:08Watch as he passes through security and hides behind a wall.
09:12Several people pass him before he's seen punching a man walking by.
09:16Security tries to intervene.
09:18Then he storms back to the TSA checkpoint, where security cameras catch him throwing several punches at TSA officers
09:26until he's knocked down over a luggage cart and pinned down until law enforcement arrives.
09:32McDougal has pleaded guilty in federal court to assaulting TSA officers.
09:37He's set to be sentenced tomorrow.
09:39David, Victor Akendo from Miami tonight.
09:41Victor, thank you.
09:42Tonight, there is a manhunt now underway after a traffic stop turned violent in Columbus, Ohio.
09:46A car pulled over.
09:47Authorities say a passenger then running away, turning back and firing, striking two officers.
09:53Here's our chief justice correspondent, Pierre Thomas now.
09:56Tonight, an urgent manhunt underway after this routine traffic stop in Ohio suddenly turns violent, ending in gunfire.
10:05Watch the police body-worn camera as the officers in Columbus, Ohio, approach the vehicle just before 7 p.m. Wednesday
10:13when the passenger jumps out and takes off.
10:17There's a chase.
10:19Then that passenger opens fire, hitting both officers.
10:22Shot fire.
10:23Officer down, officer down.
10:25I'm hit.
10:26I'm hit.
10:27The other officer diving for cover.
10:29Police also releasing this surveillance video showing the passenger turn and fire.
10:33That passenger identified as 21-year-old Devontae Dixon.
10:37He's now facing charges of attempted murder and felony assault.
10:41Police calling on the public for help.
10:43If you're listening and you know where this person is, please pick up the phone and give us a call.
10:48Authorities say the driver was taken into custody, was corroborative, and later released.
10:54And, David, some good news.
10:56Both officers are now in stable condition after one was initially listed as critical.
11:00Pierre Thomas, live in Washington.
11:02Pierre, thank you.
11:03Now to Harvard tonight.
11:04And on this graduation day, the university winning a temporary reprieve in its battle with President Trump.
11:09A judge now allowing Harvard to enroll foreign students.
11:13The State Department, meanwhile, announcing it will, quote, aggressively revoke visas of some Chinese students.
11:19Tonight, hear why they're doing this.
11:20And ABC's Selena Wang from Cambridge, Massachusetts, tonight.
11:24Harvard celebrating graduation with a legal victory in its battle with the Trump administration.
11:29After a federal judge temporarily blocked the president's ban on international students.
11:34Welcome.
11:36Today, a standing ovation for the school's President Alan Garber, who's become the face of the resistance.
11:42Members of the class of 2025, from down the street, across the country, and around the world.
11:57Around the world, just as it should be.
12:02The Trump administration accuses Harvard of failing to confront anti-Semitic harassment
12:07and claims the school as coordinated with the Chinese Communist Party.
12:11Allegations Harvard denies.
12:14But tonight, a dramatic new escalation that could impact universities across the country.
12:19Secretary of State Marco Rubio announcing the U.S. will work to aggressively revoke visas of Chinese students,
12:25including those with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in critical fields.
12:30Former ambassador to China Nicholas Burns, now a Harvard professor,
12:34telling us there's already a rigorous vetting process.
12:37Those who are at security risk should not have a visa.
12:40But that probably excludes the vast majority of the applicants
12:45and the vast majority of the 277,000 Chinese students in the United States.
12:50For Harvard students like Fanzo Zhang from China, the last week has been a roller coaster.
12:55That definitely sparked a new round of panic mode.
12:58It's definitely a lot of devastation, frustration, disappointment, anger, and uncertainty going on campus right now.
13:06But, David, as for that warning to Chinese students, it's unclear how many could be targeted.
13:11And for Harvard, this legal battle continues to play out in the courts with billions of dollars in federal funding frozen.
13:17A hearing on that is scheduled for July.
13:19David.
13:20Selena Wang in Cambridge, Massachusetts tonight.
13:22Selena, thank you.
13:23From Washington, there is news coming in tonight.

13:34The FBI says it began investigating the 28-year-old in March after receiving a tip.
13:38According to authorities, the tipster said the staffer's views did not, quote, agree or align with the values of this administration.
13:44The FBI says the suspect is alleged to have given classified information to an undercover agent.

14:52Experts tonight with this advice if you spot a shark nearby.
14:55The best thing to do to just quietly get out of the water.
15:00You don't want to splash and panic and try to attract the shark accidentally.
15:04Remember, these are wild animals.
15:06And David, while these shark encounters are extremely rare,
15:09scientists say climate change is changing where some swim and how they hunt.
15:14David?

16:24moral obligation because when you're scared into silence,
16:27these things continue to happen to others, she said.
16:30Her testimony resumes tomorrow.
16:32Combs has denied he assaulted anyone.
16:33Tonight, two major airlines now joining forces in a key way.
