02:15From ABC News World Headquarters in New York, this is World News Tonight with David Muir.
02:23Good evening. It's great to have you with us here on a very busy Tuesday night.
02:26We begin tonight with the urgent watches and warnings late today.
02:29In fact, 10 states are under tornado watches right now.
02:32We're also now tracking a possible nor'easter, taking aim at parts of the northeast,
02:36just as Memorial Day weekend approaches.
02:38First tonight, the pictures, the tornado threat as we go into the evening hours here.
02:42At least 25 reported tornadoes across nine states in just the last 24 hours.
02:47This one in Waterloo, Alabama.
02:49Severe storms and swirling debris in West Tennessee late today.
02:52Lightning striking this patrol car in Newcastle.
02:55This is south of Oklahoma City. Incredible there.
02:58And tonight here, new surveillance showing the moment a tornado struck that airport in London, Kentucky.
03:02Of course, that deadly tornado.
03:04It's now been confirmed to be an EF4.
03:06Winds were 170 miles an hour.
03:08That area could get hit with severe storms again tonight.
03:12And the devastation in Pittsburgh, Oklahoma.
03:14Take a look at this tonight.
03:15A drone showing an entire neighborhood simply wiped away.
03:18So the tornado threat across multiple states at this hour and now this potential nor'easter.
03:23Let's get right to Chief Meteorologist Ginger Zee.
03:25She's leading us off again tonight.
03:26Ginger, it could be another dangerous night ahead.
03:29David, we've already had at least four reported tornadoes in just the last 24 hours.
03:33We've got warnings and watches on the map.
03:35Let's look at that.
03:35From Mississippi and Alabama, western Tennessee, Nashville included there.
03:39That line is progressing east through Kentucky.
03:42Illinois and Indiana still have a little heart of tornado watch as well.
03:45We're going to watch London get it here in the next hour or two.
03:48And then that line stretches all the way east of Huntsville at 9 o'clock.
03:51We track it throughout the late night and early morning hours.
03:54And that's when it just turns into more of a general thunderstorm or shower waking people up in Washington, D.C.
03:59Philadelphia gets it late morning.
04:01And then this storm reinforced with this late-season nor'easter that will twist up and wrap around,
04:07bringing rain and wind to kick off the big-time travel weekend.
04:11Thursday night, you could see some travel impacts in Boston.
04:15All right, Ginger, is he tracking this all?
04:17What could be a difficult night ahead and then dangerous travel for the holiday?
04:20Ginger, thank you.
04:21We turn now to the other news this Tuesday night.
04:23We have new reporting tonight on former President Biden's prostate cancer diagnosis.
04:27The former president's spokesperson revealing late today the last time the former president was tested for this.
04:33Here's our chief Washington correspondent, Jonathan Karl.
04:35Tonight, as former President Biden battles incurable stage 4 prostate cancer,
04:41his spokesman revealed the last time Biden got a PSA test for the disease was more than 10 years ago, in 2014.
04:49The spokesperson saying, quote,
04:51Prior to Friday, President Biden had never been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
04:55It was Sunday the world learned that the former president has cancer and that it has spread to his bones.
05:01Biden is 82 years old, and medical experts say PSA tests are not typically recommended for men older than 70.
05:09Among that age group, when prostate cancer is found, it is often serious.
05:13I would say on average, if I see patients at this age, it's a common scenario that they're diagnosed with advanced disease
05:21because very often their PSA was no longer being checked.
05:24They were no longer undergoing screening.
05:25One question many are asking tonight, should presidents be tested more frequently?
05:30White House says President Trump, who is 78, had a PSA test last month.
05:35While stage 4 prostate cancer is considered incurable, it can be treated and it can be managed.
05:42President Biden is in Delaware with his family, weighing those treatment options.
05:46David?
05:47Of course, cancer has touched so many families across this country and so many people polling for the former president.
05:52John, thank you.
05:53The other major headline in Washington, President Trump traveling to Capitol Hill today with a message to more than a dozen House Republicans
05:58who are still no on the president's spending bill.
06:01And tonight, what the president told them about Medicaid.
06:04Let's get right to ABC's Jay O'Brien live on Capitol Hill tonight.
06:07And Jay, we're just hours away from this test vote.
06:09What did the president tell Republican lawmakers up on the Hill?
06:12Yeah, David, tonight, President Trump personally pressuring Republican holdouts to pass his sweeping domestic agenda.
06:17Now officially called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
06:21It extends Trump's 2017 tax cuts.
06:23It lifts federal income tax on tips and overtime.
06:26It includes nearly $50 billion to renew construction of a border wall.
06:30It also cuts Medicaid.
06:32Oh, some lawmakers tonight pushing for even more cuts.
06:35President Trump's message to them today, we're told, was don't mess with Medicaid, threatening Republicans who don't get behind this bill that they, quote, wouldn't be a Republican much longer.
06:44But even still tonight, David, more than a dozen or so holdouts enough to tank this bill with a vote expected as soon as tomorrow.
06:51David.
06:52All right, Jay O'Brien live up on the Hill for us tonight.
06:54We'll have more tomorrow on this.
06:55Thank you, Jay.
06:55There's been a major turn tonight in that stunning jailbreak in Louisiana.
06:58A jail worker has now been arrested tonight.
07:01What authorities say he did and what that worker now claims an inmate told him he would do to him if he didn't help.
07:07Faith Abube is in New Orleans.
07:08Tonight, a maintenance worker at the New Orleans jail where 10 inmates escaped all at once, now charged with helping in the scheme.
07:17He made a bad choice.
07:18He's going to change his life forever.
07:19Sterling Williams accused of shutting off the water before inmates dislodged a toilet and crawled out through a hole in the wall Friday morning.
07:27The inmates allegedly leaving behind the message, too easy, LOL.
07:31A court affidavit says Williams told investigators an inmate threatened to shank him if he refused.
07:37I don't think that he had to do any of the things that he did.
07:40If he was under threat, then he certainly should have brought that to someone else's attention.
07:45Overnight, authorities swarming this residential area just minutes from the jail, taking an inmate into custody.
07:51And just moments ago, arresting another.
07:54Five inmates remain at large.
07:56Authorities now looking at these new surveillance videos first obtained by ABC News,
08:01showing three inmates in an alley one hour after that escape still dressed in their jail uniforms.
08:07One of those fugitives convicted killer Derek Groves, sentenced to life in prison.
08:12He's proven he's willing to kill.
08:14He's proven he's willing to take risks.
08:16He's proven that he does not care about anybody except for himself.
08:19Tonight, officials say prosecutors who oversaw Groves' cases have left the area with their families.
08:25And witnesses and victims have also been placed in protection for their safety.
08:29And David, a fourth jail employee has now been suspended, not including the worker facing criminal allegations.
08:36Officials say this internal probe could net more arrests and upgraded charges.
08:41David.
08:41All right, Faith Abube back in New Orleans for us again tonight.
08:44Thank you, Faith.
08:44To the dramatic testimony now in the trial of Sean Diddy Combs right here in New York.
08:48His ex-girlfriend's mother taking the stand today.
08:50The photos the mother shared, and she testified that she actually took out a home equity loan
08:55because the mother says Combs was demanding money from her.
08:59Aaron Katursky at the courthouse.
09:01On the seventh day of testimony at the sex trafficking and racketeering trial of Sean Combs,
09:06the mother of his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, told the jury she took these photos of bruises
09:11she said Combs inflicted on her daughter after finding out she was dating another man.
09:15She was bruised, and I wanted to make sure that we memorialized it.
09:19Regina Ventura testified her daughter told her she was being blackmailed.
09:23Cassie sent her mom this email saying Combs is going to release two explicit sex tapes of me.
09:28He has also said that he will be having someone hurt me and Scott Muscuti,
09:32the rapper known as Kid Cudi, who Ventura had started to date.
09:36I was physically sick, Ventura's mother said.
09:38The sex tapes threw me.
09:40She testified Combs demanded $20,000 to recoup money that he had spent on Cassie.
09:45I was scared for my daughter's safety, she told the jury,
09:48so she took out a home equity loan to secure the money and wired it according to instructions sent by Combs' bookkeeper.
09:54A few days later, she said the money was sent back.
09:57The defense did not cross-examine Cassie's mother, and she walked off the witness stand glaring at Combs.
10:03Jurors could hear from Kid Cudi as soon as tomorrow, David.
10:05At the end of the day today, they saw some of the items that authorities said they seized from Combs' home in Miami Beach.
10:11That included two assault-style rifles.
10:14David?
10:14All right, Aaron Katursky in lower Manhattan again tonight.
10:17This evening, President Trump revealing his plans for a Golden Dome, a missile defense system to surround the U.S.
10:23The questions tonight, what would it do and how much will this cost?
10:26So here's Martha Raddatz.
10:28Tonight, President Trump's dream of an Iron Dome for America is official.
10:33The so-called Golden Dome Missile Shield, which could cost more than $175 billion,
10:40would be designed to protect the U.S. from the growing threat from boosted hypersonic weapons,
10:46submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and land-attack cruise missiles.
10:50Once fully constructed, the Golden Dome will be capable of intercepting missiles,
10:55even if they are launched from other sides of the world and even if they are launched from space.
11:01The U.S. already has existing interceptors in Alaska and California for intercontinental ballistic missiles
11:08launched from North Korea or Iran.
11:11But this system would use not only ground-based interceptors, but space-based technology as well,
11:18which could potentially detect and intercept the missiles.
11:22This is very important for the success and even survival of our country.
11:26Trump has praised Israel's Iron Dome, which shielded Israel from the majority of missiles
11:32launched from Hamas and the Houthis, but those were smaller weapons.
11:37Trump claims the Golden Dome could be operational by the end of his term,
11:41but Congress will first have to approve the funding, and missile experts say that three years
11:47is a very optimistic timetable for completion of the project.
11:51David?
11:51All right, Martha Raddatz in Washington.
11:53Martha, thank you.
11:54We turn now to the urgent warnings tonight about the humanitarian crisis worsening in Gaza.
11:58The U.N. now warning that 14,000 babies could die within 48 hours if aid doesn't reach them right away.
12:06Here's our chief foreign correspondent, Ian Pannell.
12:09As Israel unleashes a furious aerial attack
12:12and expands ground operations deeper into Gaza, growing international condemnation
12:18over the rapidly unfolding humanitarian disaster.
12:23Today, the U.N. with an apocalyptic warning, saying 14,000 babies will die in the next 48 hours
12:30if aid doesn't reach them now.
12:32In a rare move, major allies, Canada, France, Britain,
12:36condemning Israel's actions as disproportionate and pushing for aid to flow again.
12:41I want to put on record today that we're horrified by the escalation from Israel.
12:47Israel saying its nearly three-month-long aid blockade is meant to pressure Hamas,
12:52which is still holding 58 hostages, including the bodies of four Americans.
12:57Under pressure, 93 aid trucks have been allowed into Gaza,
13:00but the U.N. is saying none of it's been distributed yet.
13:04And the horrors of this war hang heaviest on the weakest of all, the children.
13:08Rahaf, I add, is 12 years old.
13:12She became sick during the war, but is now severely malnourished too.
13:16Her mother, Sharouk, desperate.
13:20I'm afraid that she might die in my arms.
13:23I'm helpless, she says.
13:25Rahaf urgently evacuated to the UAE for better treatment.
13:29A new chance of life.
13:31David, tonight, Israel and Hamas trading blame for ceasefire talks in Qatar that appear to be going nowhere.
13:39David.
13:39Chief Foreign Correspondent Ian Pannell tonight.
13:41Ian, thank you.
13:42Back here in the U.S. tonight into a moment on Capitol Hill today.
13:45Homeland Security Chief Kristi Noem on the Hill.
13:47She was challenged about the Trump administration's migrant deportations without due process.
13:53Secretary Noem was asked to explain habeas corpus,
13:55which, of course, is the constitutional right in this country to challenge an arrest or imprisonment.
13:59Here's how she defined it when she was asked by New Hampshire Senator Maggie Hassan.
14:03So, Secretary Noem, what is habeas corpus?
14:06Well, habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country
14:13and suspend their right to...
14:14No, let me stop you, ma'am.
14:16Habeas corpus, excuse me, that's incorrect.
14:18President Lincoln used it.
14:20Excuse me.
14:22Habeas corpus is the legal principle that requires that the government provide a public reason
14:27for detaining and imprisoning people.
14:30If not for that protection, the government could simply arrest people,
14:34including American citizens, and hold them indefinitely for no reason.
14:38Habeas corpus is the foundational right that separates free societies like America
14:43from police states like North Korea.
14:46That back and forth in Washington today.
14:48Secretary Noem tonight saying she supports habeas corpus,
14:50but that she also believes the president has the right to suspend it.
14:53When we come back tonight, the security breach at a New York airport,
14:57a driver crashing through the gate, driving right onto the runway.
14:59You'll see it.
15:00Also, we remember Norm from Cheers, actor George Wendt.
15:03So many of his one-liners right here.
15:06And tonight, the police video just made public here.
15:08A deadly shooting at a gym.
15:10Authorities revealing tonight this could have been much worse.
15:12What they believe saved so many other people in that gym.
15:14In a moment.
15:16Tonight, newly released images of a deadly shooting at a Las Vegas gym.
15:19Police saying had the shooter's gun not jammed, it would have been a mass casualty event.
15:24Authorities say surveillance shows the gunman entering with a rifle.
15:27He walked to the front desk, pacing there in the lobby,
15:29then shooting three people and killing one gym employee.
15:32That's when the gun apparently jammed.
15:34Body camera video showing officers then confronting him outside.
15:37He was shot running from the building, later dying at the hospital.
15:40Tonight, there's no word on a possible motive.
15:42Tonight, a security breach at Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
15:45Police say a driver intentionally crashing through a gate there.
15:48That suspect crossing a taxiway.
15:51He was then arrested on an inactive runway.
15:53There's no word on a possible motive there as well.
15:55The FBI joining the investigation.
15:57No flights were affected.
15:58When we come back here tonight, the break-in at the home of actor Anthony Anderson.
16:02And we remember tonight, actor George Wendt from Cheers, Norm,
16:06and so many of those famous one-liners right here in a moment.
16:10To the index of other news.
16:12Tonight, a break-in at the home of actor Anthony Anderson from Black-ish and Law & Order.
16:16Police now searching for a burglary crew who they say targeted the home in Encino, California.
16:20Authorities say three men broke into the house.
16:22No one was home at the time.
16:23No word on what was stolen.
16:25It is the latest high-profile break-in in the Los Angeles area.
16:28The long-lost bust of the door singer Jim Morrison has finally been recovered.
16:32Police in France finding the bust nearly four decades after it was stolen from his grave in Paris.
16:37They say it was found by chance during an unrelated fraud investigation.
16:41Morrison, of course, died back in 1971.
16:43When we come back here tonight, the bar where everybody knew his name.
16:47We celebrate Norm, actor George Wendt.
16:49He made millions laugh every week.
16:51And in fact, what happened 32 years ago tonight?
16:56ABC World News Tonight with David Muir.
16:59Sponsored by Vivgard Hytrulo and Vivgard.
17:03Finally tonight here, celebrating actor George Wendt.
17:06Norm from Cheers.
17:07Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.
17:13Tonight, the famous bar where everybody knew his name.
17:16Norm!
17:18We'd say it every time Norm walked in.
17:21How does it be a sound, Norm?
17:23I don't know.
17:23Coach, they usually finish them before they get a word in.
17:26The actor George Wendt playing the funny, lovable, beer-loving bar fixture Norm Peterson on Cheers for 11 seasons.
17:33He was always there right at the end of the bar.
17:36Bonds can be very sad places.
17:39Some people spend their whole lives in a bar.
17:41Just yesterday, some guy sat right here next to me for 11 hours.
17:46There was that prickly but lovable friendship with Cliff Clavin, the mailman.
17:51I have impossibly high standards for a woman.
17:53Yeah, she has to like you, right?
17:56The role earning George Wendt six consecutive Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor.
18:01You know what I think the most important thing in life is?
18:05It's love.
18:07You want to know what I love?
18:09Beer, Norm?
18:12Yeah, I'll have a quick one.
18:14In fact, it was 32 years ago tonight, the final episode of Cheers aired.
18:19The cast reuniting on last year's Emmys, recreating the bar.
18:22And if somebody has the envelope, we can present the award.
18:27Yeah, that one ran.
18:30George Wendt was often asked if the beer he was drinking was real.
18:34He says it wasn't, but on GMA with Charlie Gibson, he did reveal this.
18:38I did a great deal of preparation for that role.
18:41You know, it was a lifetime.
18:42You lived the part.
18:43Yeah.
18:44You know, I did put on like 75 pounds for the role, much like Robert De Niro did for Raging
18:49Pool.
18:49I know.
18:49You have to make these sacrifices and probably learn to drink a little beer.
18:53Yeah.
18:54He'd go on to star on Broadway, but it was always his iconic role sitting on that bar stool
18:58and his wisecracking one-liners that are remembered most.
19:02Tonight, his family saying he passed away peacefully in his sleep at home at the age of 76,
19:07saying George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend, and confidant to all of those lucky
19:12enough to have known him.
19:14Good afternoon, everybody.
19:15Norm!
19:16Norman?
19:17What would you say to a nice beer, Normie?
19:20Going down.
19:23Hard to believe the last year's was 32 years ago tonight.
19:26We'll raise one for Norm tonight.
19:28I'll see you tomorrow.
19:29Good night.
19:30Thank you for making World News Tonight with David Muir, America's most watched newscast.
