00:00Big questions for OTAs today, Seth. These are the questions I have, and again, we should
00:05point out there are no pads, there's no hitting going on, probably a lot of one-on-one pass
00:11rush or anything, it's all just 7-on-7, 11-on-11, no pads.
00:15Yeah, yeah, but to your point, we do get to see maybe some formations and things like
00:19that, and at least get the first glimpse of what they're thinking when it comes to first
00:24stringers and whatnot.
00:25100%, this is what's going to happen today, whichever the first offensive line configuration
00:30that goes out there is going to be reported, and then immediately afterwards, a coach or
00:36GM or somebody is going to remind everybody, hey, don't read into this too much, we're all
00:41just, it's going to change day by day, and that might make you feel nervous, and it might
00:46make you feel less secure, just remember that they're having that same conversation in Cleveland
00:52about the quarterbacks, that at any given point, any of these five quarterbacks might
00:59go out there as a starter, okay?
01:01This is not the greatest spot to be in, where you've got nine offensive linemen
01:04fighting for five over, but yes, at least it's not four quarterbacks, including two rookies,
01:11battling for your starting QB job, good job.
01:14Don't worry, any one of five quarterbacks might show up as the starter on this OTA, but rest
01:20assured, we don't feel great about any of them, okay?
01:23Yeah, that's a good point, Seth.
01:24This is a competition.
01:25Yeah, that's a really good point.
01:28So, but you're absolutely right.
01:30Now, it's interesting, Jonathan Alexander, I have a few more questions we'll hit here,
01:35but as long as we're talking about the offensive line, he made a prediction on his OTA question
01:39piece that went up on the Chronicle, left to right, as to what he thinks the starting
01:44offensive line is going to be.
01:45He had Trent Brown at right tackle, and I feel like every time we talk about right tackle,
01:50it's like, okay, is Titus going to play tackle or guard, or is Blake Fisher going to resume
01:55the starting spot that he held at the end of last season?
01:58Boy, might Ariante Urseri get into the mix here?
02:00They used a second-round pick on him.
02:02I can't remember one time where you and I entertained the idea, at least me, I don't
02:06want to speak for you, where I've entertained the idea of Trent Brown being the starting
02:10right tackle for this team.
02:11I've entertained it, I just, with Trent Brown, he's well into his 30s, and he's got, he's
02:17coming off a torn patellar tendon.
02:19Yeah.
02:19So that's what I just don't know about him, and like, how bad was the patellar tendon
02:23injury and all of that, but yeah, if he's healthy, and he's not on the PUP in game one,
02:30then I think there's a good chance he's a starting right tackle.
02:32I guess I just, I'm just skeptical that at his age, it's going to be a less than one year
02:37recovery from patellar.
02:38Yeah, dude, I feel like if Trent Brown is your starting right tackle, something's gone
02:43wrong with Blake Fisher, you know, like it's going enough to be out there, or that he got
02:49hurt in some way, and it's Trent Brown, like that, blindly, if you told me Trent Brown's
02:53your starting right tackle, I would say, okay, then Blake Fisher regressed somehow in the
02:57offseason.
02:58Well, I mean, he is a, Trent Brown's a better offensive tackle than Blake Fisher was last
03:03year, 100%.
03:04It's just a matter of if he's, I just, until I hear that he's, and if he goes out there
03:10today, and he's running around, and he's healthy and everything, then yeah, there's a, he'll
03:14be in the conversation.
03:15Yeah, like he's, he's a good player, and you know, all those other guys that right tackle
03:21other than Titus Howard are still a work in progress.
03:24Yep.
03:25Question number two, will Damian Pierce capitalize on the reps he gets in 11 on 11, at least
03:30in terms of internalizing the new offense?
03:32Joe Mixon, according to Aaron Wilson, is going to miss practices here.
03:36He was in a walking boot.
03:37It doesn't sound like it's serious, but he's going to miss some time, which happened last
03:44year, too, in training camp.
03:45Remember, Joe Mixon missed a ton of training camp last year.
03:47I believe Aaron Wilson was the first to report anything about Christian Harris, and at the
03:51time, it was being treated like, oh, just no big deal, or whatever.
03:55We were out there the first day of practice.
03:57Christian Harris had been doing, he was, he did an interview a week before training camp
04:02about how great he felt, and then we're out there on the first day of training camp practice,
04:06and about 10, 15 minutes into it, everybody's looking around like, where is Christian Harris,
04:10by the way?
04:11Yes, and that persisted.
04:11Don't worry about it.
04:12It's no big deal.
04:13He'll be fine by December.
04:14And that persisted for 14 weeks into the season.
04:17Yeah.
04:18So the Mixon thing, yeah, so I guess, good point.
04:21And if the point is, let's wait and see on just how serious Mixon is, I can accept that.
04:26But we've got a contract year for Damian Pierce.
04:28They drafted a running back who presumably is going to put some pressure on Damian Pierce.
04:33Damian Pierce was not getting on the field at the end of last season, other than the Titans
04:37game, where he looked really, really good.
04:39But at nut-cutting time, when the team needed to trust multiple running backs, they trusted
04:44one running back.
04:45It was Joe Mixon.
04:46That was it.
04:46Yeah.
04:46In playoff time.
04:47So this is a big OTA.
04:49This is a big offseason for Damian Pierce.
04:51Let's just put it that way.
04:52The third question I have, Seth, what can we learn about Nick Cayley's offense in an OTA
04:58environment?
04:59Is there anything?
05:00Because this is going to, I presumably, I hope, look different than Bobby Slowick's
05:04offense.
05:04It's a lot of similar elements, I would imagine, but certainly some differences.
05:07What can we glean?
05:08I think you're going to read into it way too much, because that's what we do, but I do
05:15think you're going to see a more evolved, quick game, and probably a real emphasis on
05:24getting the ball out quickly.
05:26CJ Stroud potentially controlling more at the line of scrimmage.
05:29Oh, yeah.
05:30Might be able to really get a feel for that, because that's going to be something that probably
05:34in the first day of OTAs, they don't necessarily do a lot, but as things progress, if we start
05:39seeing CJ, A, get up to the line with time to do something, and then B, CJ actually really
05:48work in the pass protections, checking plays, more than just a quick, simple either or audible,
05:53that's something we might be able to pick up on.
05:55You know D'Amico will throw things at CJ.
05:58You know what I mean?
05:58D'Amico the DC will throw things at CJ.
06:01But with Slowick, the methodology was very much old school.
06:06Cool.
06:06Kubiak, the quarterback, thinking too much at the line of scrimmage.
06:09We're going to get up, and we're going to run the play, and there will be an option within
06:12the play.
06:13It sounds like from what Nick Caley has said, and what CJ Stroud has said, is that, no,
06:18this might hopefully look a little bit more like the true veteran quarterback.
06:22Get up to the line of scrimmage with 15 seconds left on the play clock, and you can sit and
06:28diagnose and actually do something intellectually as a quarterback, instead of just getting
06:34the snap off on time.
06:35This is a, I guess this is sort of a question, maybe more of an observation that I'm looking
06:40forward to, is who's the, does CJ Gardner-Johnson, any new guys, like who's bringing the juice
06:45to this stuff?
06:46Because last year, I mean, you were out there, Seth, you know, like Stefan Diggs brought
06:50a big energy to these practices, and he's not there anymore.
06:53So, I'm not saying there's an energy vacuum or anything like that.
06:57There's a ton of guys that really like being out there.
06:59It's a swarmy team.
07:01But, you know, I'm anxious to see, CJ Gardner-Johnson, I think, was brought in as much for his energy
07:08as it was his productivity.
07:10You know, like, he's a guy who brings the juice.
07:13So, that part, in a practice where there's no hitting, there's no pads or anything like
07:18that, I'm anxious to see just the interactions with some of the new guys out there.
07:22I think the one thing that we, that stuck from OTAs last year was, wow, this team really
07:28likes Kamari Lasseter.
07:29Yeah.
07:30Oh, yeah.
07:30They're treating him like, oh, yeah, he's 100% in the mix to be the starting cornerback.
07:36And with Kalen Bullock, they weren't as, it wasn't as clear-cut and forthright.
07:41And that would match with the types of players they were.
07:44Kamari Lasseter as much as he was.
07:47So, I, if we start to see either Jaden Higgins or Jalen Knoll really heavily involved with
07:53the ones, I'll read into that.
07:55I think that's fair enough to do.
07:56They trust them with running the offense and everything in OTAs, then that might mean something.
08:03Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
08:05And their spot's open at receiver right now, man.
08:07Like, that is a big audition going on right now.
08:11So, those are mine.
08:13Did you happen to see Diggs living his best life yesterday?
08:15Like, Stefan Diggs, he was out on a boat having a party or participating at a party
08:22of his possible girlfriend, Cardi B.
08:25Right.
08:25And people were making a big deal out of this one video.
08:29And the caption I saw, the one that had, like, two million retweets or whatever, said,
08:35Stefan Diggs caught flirting on video at a Cardi B party or at a party that Cardi B was at.
08:41And you watch the video and you're like, he is not the flirter here.
08:47This is a, he is the flirtee.
08:49There were three women just crowded around him with a gaga eyes, just soaking in everything.
08:56Touching his chains.
08:57They were coming after him.
08:59Yeah.
08:59It looked like he was, he was the prey.
09:03Yeah.
09:03I felt bad for him.
09:04Like, when you watch a cute little koala bear get devoured by some beast.
09:10Yeah.
09:10He was, if anything, he needed to hashtag me too up out of there.
09:15All Stefan Diggs was doing was being himself.
09:18And these women were just pressing, like, just in a competition with each other.
09:22Like, they were looking for a space at the bar.
09:24Good look.
09:26Fucking guy, man.
09:27There wasn't anything that looked like he was paying a bunch of extra attention to one of them or anything.
09:32Yeah.
09:32Just leave Stefan Diggs alone.
09:34That party.
09:35Let him live his life at some party that 15 years from now is going to come up in a deposition.
09:39Okay.
09:40It looked like a fun party, man.
09:41Did you see the other videos?
09:43The video you're talking about was just strictly honed in on Diggs with the three women around him.
09:48Yeah.
09:48Boy, some of the wide shots of that party that surfaced.
09:51That was a hell of a time.
09:53It looked like any party that you and I would take our wives to.
09:55A hundred percent.
09:56A hundred percent.
09:56Yeah.
09:57There you go, Brandy.
09:58Get over there and shake it a little bit.
10:00Yeah.
10:00For the party.
10:01For the social media.
10:03Is this a Diggs party or is this my 30th birthday party?
10:06I can't even tell.
10:07On a yacht with a bunch of women twerking.
10:10It was the same exact thing back in 1999.
10:13Yes.
10:13Same exact thing.
10:14I get the feel that Cardi B and Stefan Diggs are probably of a like mind, kind of like
10:18when Jack Nicholson and Shirley MacLaine were together.
10:25They're just kind of like, all right, listen, it's a free and swinging time in America and
10:31with society.
10:32We just, you know, whatever happens, happens.
10:34We'll be cool.
10:35Okay.
10:36I didn't even know Jack Nicholson was with Shirley MacLaine at one point.
10:40I don't know if he was.
10:41So I'm assuming anybody under the age of 40 didn't know.
10:46That was great.
10:48You got anything?
10:49I don't know if he actually, no, you know what?
10:51I'm not messing up because terms of endearment.
10:54I don't think he dated Shirley MacLaine.
10:56Okay.
10:56He was just with her in terms of endearment.
10:58Hey, are you excited that we get a joint practice?
11:01That was announced yesterday.
11:02That was, it was reported.
11:03I don't know if the team announced anything, but Alice have mentioned it at their OTAs
11:09that the Texans and the Panthers, baby, going to be practicing leading up to that preseason
11:13game.
11:14That's fun.
11:15Yeah.
11:15The good times.
11:16Good times, man.
11:17Blake out there.
11:17We're going to get him mic'd up.
11:19Bryce Young, not Blake Young.
11:21Bryce Young.
11:22Bryce Young.
11:23What's up, guys?
11:24How are we doing?
11:24Yeah.
11:25He's going to walk over.
11:26He's going to walk over to the Texans, walk over to CJ Stroud and Will Anderson, and
11:30he's going to give them a little.
11:31What's up, guys?
11:31How are we doing?
11:32Everyone good?
11:32Yeah.
11:33Get away, little man.
11:33We're trying to have a practice.
11:35There will be a feverish attempt to spin any and all comments by CJ Stroud and Bryce Young.
11:42Oh, yeah.
11:43And I will be the one doing it.
11:45Yeah.
11:46They're going to try to take some kind of banal statement one of those guys make and turn
11:51it into headline porn.
11:53And I think CJ is going to be the one that gets the brunt of it.
11:57Yeah.
11:57You don't have to say-
11:58Bryce Young.
11:59Bryce Young, he just, his actual voice, you can't interpret anything he says as malice.
12:03Yeah.
12:03CJ will try to say something nice about Bryce Young, and it's going to be interpreted as
12:07shade by somebody.
12:08You don't have to say somebody or they.
12:10You know who's going to do it.
12:11It's going to be me.
12:11I'm going to do it.
12:12Yes.
12:13I will take the quotes from both of those guys and turn it into something that it's not.
12:17Of course, CJ does a really good job with those types of questions because he goes
12:22over the top and professing his admiration and love for Bryce Young or Jaden Daniels.
12:26Yeah.
12:26Yeah.
12:27I think that somebody brings up like, hey, what about Jaden Daniels breaking all your
12:30records?
12:31CJ goes over the top.
12:32Like, I've, you know, I've known him forever.
12:34It's awesome.
12:35Good for him.
12:36Yeah.
12:36Inland Empire kid, blah, blah, blah.
12:39Uh, we also get this.
12:41Oh, I work back here.
12:43You see, probably a week and a half.
12:46For real.
12:47We're going to go on the chicken level.
12:49Oh, they have me cooking the chicken and all this little tumbles.
12:54I will be running to a Xavier Leggett media scrum.
12:57I will be sprinting over there.
12:58That's Xavier Leggett for those who don't know.
13:00And for those of you wondering, what was he saying there?
13:03A, I get it.
13:04B, he was talking about his first job ever at KFC, cooking the gizzards and the chicken
13:08necks and the, and the, and the livers and things like that.
13:11KFC should, at some point, I would imagine he'd get an endorsement out of that.
13:15I mean, I would love that.
13:16He's a great spokesperson and he's willing to have fun.
13:20He's willing to have fun with people about how people have a hard time understanding what
13:24he's saying.
13:24Yeah.
13:24Yeah.
13:24Yeah.
13:24So they could really have some fun with that, you know, subtitles and, and all that
13:28for whatever he's pushing at KFC.
13:30This is what it's, tell me about these, tell me about these bulls.
13:33Yeah.
13:33These bulls look enticing.
13:34That's how the commercials all are.
13:36Right, right.
13:36Got the macaroni and cheese with the chicken nuggets and the, yeah.
13:40Uh, this was him picking his winning horse in the, uh, Kentucky Derby with Kay Adams.
13:45How should I pick my horse?
13:46Well, me personally, I'm always trying to go for an underdog.
13:49Okay.
13:50Underdog.
13:50Yeah, so I'm going for Chunk of Gold.
13:52Everybody, they think that he's going to lose.
13:53Who?
13:54Chunk of Gold.
13:55That's his name.
13:55That's the horse I'm going for today.
13:56I need to see the field.
13:57I can't understand what you're saying.
13:58What?
13:59Chunk of Gold.
14:01Chunk of Goat?
14:02Gold.
14:03G-O-L-D.
14:04G-O-L-D.
14:08See, he gets it though, man.
14:09Like, he loves it.
14:11Adam Thielen is his translator.
14:13Adam, so Adam Thielen is.
14:16Short, white Adam Thielen is his translator.
14:18I love that little aspect of it because it removes all of any, anybody that wants to
14:22try to, you know, bait or anything on the text.
14:27Like, no, I'm in the receiver's room who understands what Xavier Leggett is saying.
14:32All right?
14:33Okay, this is across the board.
14:35People from all locales and backgrounds don't understand what Xavier Leggett is saying.
14:40But I'm going to take he loves you together.
14:41So...
14:42We got to...
14:42...
14:43...
14:43...
14:44...
14:44We're going to make a
