00:00There is a report out about maybe interest in picking up a former All-Pro Bowl football player on the offensive side of the ball, and that is Nick Chubb.
00:15Well, I should probably be clear. I think the report was more of just, you know, in today's world where they're just throwing out graphics and linking them to teams and trying to get clicks and conversations started, which it was successful with me.
00:31It's probably been a week since I've seen this, to be honest with you. I've seen Nick Chubb link to every damn team. I've seen him link to the Cowboys recently.
00:37But it did get me to thinking, you know, teams that want to run the football consistently and whether it's, you know, regardless of what kind of attack it is, they usually have got two guys that are contributing in some way.
00:59And while we've been really excited about Woody Marks, I'm super excited about Woody Marks.
01:05I do want, at the same time, be real about what is the best route for Woody Marks to be the best player that he can be from Jump Street?
01:15Because I do think that when you've got Joe Mixon and you've got Daria Gumbawale and – what's my man's name in the middle? Mine just went blank.
01:25Mixon?
01:26No, no, the backup from Florida. Damn, my mind went blank.
01:29Oh, oh, Damian Pierce.
01:30Damian Pierce.
01:31But when you've got Joe Mixon, Damian Pierce, and Daria Gumbawale – how did I remember Daria Gumbawale and not Pierce?
01:38But anyway, those are your three guys.
01:40There's clear – there's a clear path for Woody Marks to be a contributor in some capacity.
01:48But what is that capacity and what's best for Woody Marks to be introduced slowly to the league, to be introduced slowly with this offense of, hey, man, the best way for Woody Marks, guys, is where I'm going with this.
02:04The best way for Woody Marks is if he is a third down back.
02:07In third down, you could also be in two-minute.
02:12You know, you could also be in any kind of up-tempo offense, any kind of passing situation offense.
02:20That is what he's done in college.
02:24College, performing, and it's when he's at his best.
02:28So, the best way to start Woody Marks into the league is to say, hey, here's the playbook, and we're going to go through all camp, and we're just going to cram as much of the playbook as we can to you.
02:41But come the season, it's going to be a little bitty playbook, and there's going to be about ten pages in there that pertain to you.
02:48It's going to be third down.
02:49It's going to be two-minute.
02:50It's going to be no huddle.
02:51It's going to be up-tempo stuff.
02:53And if that's the case, then you've got to have somebody that you can pair with Joe Mixon so that you then can get the best Joe Mixon for 17 weeks.
03:04Right?
03:04And I just think that there's a reality.
03:06Now, I don't know about money-wise, but there's a reality.
03:09There's a real need for the Texans at another running back.
03:13And I'm talking about another running back that can contribute in a big way.
03:16And so, when I hear Nick Chubb's name, I like it more and more the more I think about it.
03:21When you hear that, how much usage do you envision when you hear Nick Chubb?
03:26Well, I think with those two – now, this is assuming Nick Chubb's back from the injury and everything's fine and he is whatever the version –
03:33His workouts have looked impressive.
03:35Looks like he's back.
03:35Whatever version of Nick Chubb you get in May of 2025, assuming that he's healthy, that I've got to believe that he'd be a good one-two punch.
03:43Is he the bell cow that can go for 2,000 yards?
03:46No, no, he's not that.
03:47But could he be a good one-two punch that could get downhill, that you don't have to worry about?
03:52Does he know how to protect the damn quarterback?
03:54Does he know the NFL protections?
03:56Can he get lower and buck some of these linebackers, some of these safeties that are coming?
04:00There's no restraint.
04:05Coming off the injury, I would imagine it's going to be a one- or two-year deal.
04:08I would imagine it's going to be a short-term deal to prove that he's still got a little juice.
04:11You got Joe Mixon for one more year for sure, then there's an out between this year and next.
04:18And so, yeah, I would envision him being a good one-two punch out of the gate so that you know –
04:25and barring injury, you know you're going to get the best version of Joe Mixon down a stretch.
04:29From jump, you know you're going to get a Joe Mixon that you can use in the pass game if need be.
04:34And so, I think in a capacity of, hey, man, let's split some carries, let's split some of the load,
04:40and then let Woody Marks be your third down back.
04:42I would absolutely be in for that, man.
04:46And the longer play longer in today's world with running backs, what is longer, two years?
04:50But the longer play is if you do end up getting a really good Nick Chubb,
04:55then you've got options with Joe, depending on what happens with Joe.
04:58If you don't get a good Nick Chubb, you've got, again, Joe under contract for two more years,
05:03including this season.
05:04So, there's some flexibility there.
05:07There's some opportunity there for this offense to get better with somebody.
05:12And when I heard the Nick Chubb name, I thought, hmm, I could get behind that.
05:17Yeah, man, I just wonder if it's enough carries for him to deal.
05:22It doesn't seem like Nick's –
05:23Obviously, it would have to be a complete change from last year.
05:25Because last year it was – I mean, Mixon would – there would be five other carries outside of him.
05:32Well, Mixon's got to be – Mixon's got to be – it's got to change.
05:35It's got – it's – Mixon has – I like Mixon.
05:38I'm higher than most people on Mixon.
05:42Mixon is – I think we're at a spot where it's more beneficial if he's fresh, if he's healthy,
05:49if he's catching the ball in the backfield, if he's doing more things than just being –
05:53Bell, Cal, and Mixon, I just don't think you're getting the best version of him.
05:57We may have to build on that at some point this week on that conversation of the usage rate on Joe Mixon.
06:03But, yeah, we'll see.
06:04Nick Chubb, listen, I mean, hell, there was a point in time where, hell,
06:09he was head and shoulders better than Joe Mixon for most of his career.
06:13So we'll see what happens and what kind of options he has there.
06:16But I wouldn't hate it.
06:18I think it would make their football team better if he added – if he was added to this team.
06:22I just wonder what the carries breakdown would look like.
