00:00Texans training camp presented by Xfinity is beginning Wednesday, July 23rd.
00:06The seven training camp practices will be free and open to all fans.
00:11Okay, so go ahead and...
00:12I'll say it slowly so you can...
00:14Write it down.
00:14Write it down in your mind's eye.
00:16Okay, all right.
00:16Remember it in your mind's eye or write it down.
00:18Saturday, July 26th.
00:20Monday, July 28th.
00:22Tuesday, July 29th.
00:24Wednesday, July 30th.
00:26Friday, August 1st.
00:28Saturday, August 7th.
00:30And Thursday, August 14th.
00:31Open training camp practices.
00:34Now here's a couple...
00:35Okay, so it's one week straight of open training camp practices from the 26th to the 1st of August.
00:42And then...
00:43Or 2nd of August.
00:44So that one week, obviously Sunday being an off day.
00:47And then Thursday of the 14th is also practice.
00:50Right.
00:51And then there's this, which is interesting.
00:53You know, I've often believed that D'Amico Ryans really enjoys getting away and practicing, you know, elsewhere.
01:01Get the team together, the bonding, the unity, all that stuff.
01:05Once again, first time since Deshaun Watson's rookie season, if I remember that correctly.
01:10Is that the framework that we needed to use here?
01:12Well, it was...
01:12I remember...
01:14You can just use the year, huh?
01:14I remember being there, watching this kid, thinking, yeah, it's pretty good.
01:18Yeah, because y'all actually traveled there.
01:19Yeah, we traveled there.
01:20We did the show from there.
01:21We did the show from there.
01:22Yes, we did.
01:23So, buried the lead a little bit, but the team is going to travel for four off-site training camp practices
01:28at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, August 4th through the 7th.
01:36That's right ahead of their game against the Minnesota Vikings.
01:39And then they're going to also travel to Detroit, Michigan for a joint practice before their preseason game against the Lions.
01:45One more note here, joint practice with the Carolina Panthers is going to take place on Thursday, August 14th in Houston.
01:53Oh, so that's the 14th, and that one is, again, open.
01:56So, it's the joint practice with the Panthers, which joint practices are super, super useful.
02:01Love them, love them, love them.
02:02So, seven training camp practices open.
02:04They start July 23rd.
02:06They're going to West Virginia August 4th through the 7th for four practices.
02:09Then they're going to Detroit for a joint practice, and then they're going to have a joint practice against the Panthers here on August 14th.
02:15Biggest, for you, biggest portion within that news that you rolled out, obviously, about the Texans training camp.
02:21Which one, if you had to create the hierarchy there?
02:23Because I think there's one, but I wonder if it actually matters as much considering how this Texans team is situated.
02:29Well, Janice, someone follows this team for years.
02:32The joint practices, all of them.
02:34All of them, to me, are kind of in a tie for first.
02:38But then, you know, obviously, we're going to be out there broadcasting at training camp from the very beginning.
02:44So, you can catch, and we get players right off the field.
02:46I'm sure we'll get them again this year.
02:48So, you can stay plugged in with Sports Radio 610.
02:51But also, the West Virginia thing is going to be big for this squad.
02:56You know, four days.
02:58They stay there.
02:59There's a big hotel.
03:00Well, it's a little cooler.
03:03Just a little.
03:04It can be a lot cooler.
03:05Although, right now, that area of the country, I don't know if West Virginia is quite hitting it.
03:08But it's up in the mountains a little bit.
03:10Yeah, that is there.
03:10The mountains ain't no joke.
03:12Yeah, they're no joke at all.
03:13Don't go over there in the wintertime.
03:15So, it's a little cooler.
03:16And that's August.
03:17So, that one would be up there as well.
03:20That's what I was going to say.
03:21Like, I always find it interesting, the teams that go away.
03:24Because you are in this, like, you know, it's an out-of-town trip, right?
03:28It is a dorm experience.
03:31You have to kind of room with people.
03:32You're not just at the house that you normally are.
03:34You're not going about your normal things outside.
03:37Like, everything is kind of work.
03:38It is a work trip in all sense of the word, which forces you to come together.
03:41And I think you see the reason why I'm going, okay, how big of a deal is that?
03:44Because this Texans team is as together as a football team really often is.
03:48Like, I don't know that you often will see a football team as cohesive, as much of a singular unit at times, as this Texans team is.
03:58Maybe the place that I look at is the offense in particular, and maybe the offensive line, especially, finding a level of cohesion with time together.
04:05But it feels like this team has done a good job of trying to create that themselves in, you know, the time where you were not mandated.
04:13And coming and working together and running routes together and throwing the ball and those types of things.
04:17So, I think, obviously, it can only serve to help.
04:20But it feels like it might not be as important as for me getting the opportunity to have, as you mentioned, the joint practices, especially the one against the Panthers here.
04:28But, yeah, the opportunity to get against some of these teams and work out some of those things that I would argue, and I wonder how you feel, that the joint practices matter more than the preseason games.
04:36I've always said that.
04:37For your team, because you can drill down specifically on, well, run this play back, and we want to do this in particular, and we want to test this weakness of the defense and this weakness of the offensive line.
04:46I want to see that again.
04:48Yes.
04:48You can do that.
04:49Yes, and so I think that that's what I'm most looking forward to.
04:52And we knew that these joint practices were coming, but now we know.
04:54We have dates, and we know especially that they'll be open.
04:58At least the Carolina Panthers will be open to the public.
05:00And there's a reason that even, you know, if we just personalize it to our own lives, no matter what business you're in, including our trip to the Super Bowl, there's a reason that you do these trips together because they do build a certain something for that team, whether it's your accounts payable team or your on-air team or whatever.
05:24I'm interested.
05:25You brought up accounts payable, and this is just a very clear indication that I ain't never really had an office job in my life.
05:31Do they be doing that in them jobs?
05:32Well, I guess, like, if you go to a conference, right, like, it's the out-of-trip, out-of-town conference where y'all go.
05:37But, like, heck, my wife's going to a conference in October.
05:40She just told me about school directors.
05:43School directors and your staff going to a conference in Arizona.
05:46So, yeah, there's a reason.
05:48There's always a conference in Arizona.
05:50Because, look, when you're trying to do the conference, yes, we've got to get together to talk about this work stuff, but also they'd be like, so where can we go to have fun?
05:57I imagine that one in particular, Arizona, is whoever directed that one and put it together was like, all right, so let's make sure to close it by five.
06:05Or maybe, you know what, let's get out by three.
06:07I can hit a tee time, get one win on the golf center.
06:09Now, you can't do that at the Greenbrier.
06:11I don't know about the, quote, fun part.
06:12It's kind of hard to get to, but you can play golf at the Greenbrier.
06:14You can gamble.
06:15There's a casino there.
06:18You see his eyes light up when he says that?
06:20I had some fun in that casino, man.
06:21You can gamble there.
06:22I had some fun in that casino.
06:25I actually played a little dice with, no, they just walked by.
06:28They didn't play with Cal and Hannah when they were in the casino there that one night.
06:31See how that story got, almost got, he almost lied real quick.
06:34He's like, wait, let me not.
06:36But there's a reason people do these things together.
06:40Because they work, they bond, or maybe they even splinter.
06:44You know, you never know.
06:45But in this case, the Texans, four days, five days in West Virginia.
06:49You got to feel that's going to help.
06:50Oh, is that pressure creates diamonds and burst pipes?
