00:00:00In the meantime, Showbox, the new generation is coming to you tonight from the Buffalo
00:00:04Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma.
00:00:07We talked about this highly anticipated doubleheader and the first fight was sensational and frightening.
00:00:16Sellout crowd settling in now for the main event.
00:00:18We will, of course, keep you updated on the progress of Jadon Codrington, but the main
00:00:22event has unbeaten Saku Powell against power-hitting Archak Termalexetian and a 10-round junior
00:00:28middleweight bound.
00:00:29Nick Charles with Steve Farhood ringside and as ready as you are for this main event action.
00:00:37Steve, we've seen Saku Powell lots of times on Showbox, three in fact, seen him outbox
00:00:42people, seen him display raw punching ability.
00:00:45Archak Termalexetian is a heavy hitter.
00:00:48He's only been six rounds, though, so you add this all up, it would seem, would it seem,
00:00:53I'm asking you, best for Powell to try to extend this fight?
00:00:56Yeah, I think that's probably the way he's going to go.
00:00:58You know, if he decides to try to back up Archak, he might win this fight very easily,
00:01:03but by doing so, he's, in essence, putting his head in the lion's mouth.
00:01:06That's a little dangerous and you don't know what the result would be.
00:01:09I have a feeling he'll box, as you suggest, in the second half of the fight.
00:01:13He'll turn it up and come on.
00:01:15Be interesting to watch Saku Powell as we get a look at him first.
00:01:19His fourth Showbox appearance, we've seen him survive some rocky moments.
00:01:23We've watched him dominate fights on our air.
00:01:25In his first Showbox appearance last summer, Powell had his world rocked when he took on
00:01:30veteran Grady Brewer.
00:01:31He got nailed by a combination and hit the deck for the first time as a pro.
00:01:36He survived and went on to win a highly controversial split decision.
00:01:43This past January, he dominated Patrick Thompson in every aspect.
00:01:47Powell moved well, flashed hand speed, strung together solid combos.
00:01:51He showed aggression, power, and fought with fire to win easily.
00:01:58Then in May, Powell took on Cornelius Bundridge and we witnessed one of the most sensational
00:02:02moments in boxing.
00:02:03Both fighters went down simultaneously in the opening seconds.
00:02:08Both got up and it was Powell who struck first with a left hand that finished the job.
00:02:18Oh this one's over, just 22 seconds after the opening bell.
00:02:23And since that unforgettable night on Showbox, Powell's TKO'd former interim world champion
00:02:27Santiago Samaniego in his last fight 10 weeks ago.
00:02:31Saku Powell is now 17-0 with 11 KOs.
00:02:35Steve what's behind the numbers?
00:02:36Well is this the new Saku?
00:02:38After winning three in a row on points, Powell has scored two quickie KOs, which came against
00:02:43his toughest opponents to date, Bundridge and Samaniego.
00:02:46Both were a puncher, which is the real Saku.
00:02:49Chin test.
00:02:50Powell's been down twice in his last five fights.
00:02:52Archak is a huge puncher.
00:02:54This could be a real test for Saku's chin.
00:02:56And distance done.
00:02:57Powell's been eight rounds twice, ten rounds once.
00:03:00Typical of a puncher, Archak has never been past six.
00:03:04Advantage Powell.
00:03:07Archak Termalexatian was born in Armenia, moved to Brazil with his family when he was
00:03:1012.
00:03:11He was a four-time Brazilian national champion and says he knocked out 79 opponents in 107
00:03:17amateur fights.
00:03:18Archak moved to the U.S. turned pro over three years ago.
00:03:21He suffered his only loss to two-time Olympian Nurhan Suleyman, who was unbeaten as a pro
00:03:26at that time.
00:03:2727-year-old Archak Termalexatian is a power-hitting, aggressive fighter.
00:03:32He's 15-1 now with a dozen knockouts.
00:03:34Steve what do you see behind his numbers?
00:03:37Well Archak's been smashing southpaws.
00:03:39He's faced two lefties and quickly KO'd both of them.
00:03:41But those weren't real test, Nick.
00:03:43Sparring with the likes of lefties George Khalid Jones and Sean Bay Mitchell should
00:03:47help.
00:03:48Busy shark.
00:03:49From February through August of this year, Archak fought once a month.
00:03:53He's clearly regained the momentum he lost in getting beaten by Suleyman in 2004.
00:03:58And puzzling loss.
00:03:59After stopping Archak, Suleyman has lost three of five.
00:04:02That doesn't reflect well on the shark, but his manager says the loss forced Archak to
00:04:06refocus, which a young fighter sometimes needs to do.
00:04:10Exactly.
00:04:11You know, we talked so much about this.
00:04:14Well, we'll talk a little more.
00:04:15We'll set it up.
00:04:16Sekou Powell risks his unbeaten record, says he has the skills and the experience to beat
00:04:21Archak Termalexatian, who vows to use that power and explosiveness to win a war.
00:04:29But Steve, just speaking a little bit more of this bout, as we see both fighters in the
00:04:33ring, interesting thing about this talk strategy, Termalexatian, the fights I saw him look very
00:04:41green, very powerful.
00:04:43I think it's so critical that this guy sets up his power against Powell, who could outbox
00:04:48most people.
00:04:49Yeah, I agree.
00:04:50And of course, Powell being a southpaw, that's added, uh, an added effect.
00:04:53But Archak has knocked out the subpar opposition he's faced.
00:04:58There's a little bit of bully to him until he proves otherwise.
00:05:01When he stepped up in class against Narhan Suleiman, what happened?
00:05:04He couldn't land the big punch, he started backing up, and the fight was over.
00:05:08That's why I question whether Powell might try to take control of this fight very early.
00:05:12But by doing so, of course, he puts himself at risk.
00:05:15We do know Archak can punch subpar opposition or not.
00:05:18He scored a lot of impressive knockouts, and he has two good hands to power punch with.
00:05:22You know, both of these guys, one of the things they've suffered from is over-excitability
00:05:26a little bit.
00:05:27They get a little bit ahead of themselves.
00:05:29You've seen, uh, Powell flat-out admit, in fact, to you, Steve, I remember after one
00:05:32fight that, hey, I got a little over-excited.
00:05:35And Termalek Zatayan, they've been working on just getting him to relax in the ring.
00:05:40One of the intriguing things, never being past six, you know, do you push the pedal,
00:05:44you try to stretch it out, can't afford to give any rounds away early against the boxer.
00:05:49You know what?
00:05:50Archak is going for the knockout, Nick.
00:05:51I mean, he's gonna be pushing the pedal because he wouldn't take this fight unless he thought
00:05:55he could knock Powell out.
00:05:57And the fact of the matter is, right or wrong, he thinks Powell has a weak chin.
00:06:01Powell's been down a couple of times.
00:06:02The left hook that Grady Brewer put Powell down with didn't seem like that big a shot.
00:06:06Powell went down.
00:06:07Bundrage knocked him down.
00:06:08Of course, we forget about that because Powell was a double knockdown, and then Powell knocked
00:06:12Bundrage out.
00:06:13Uh, basically knocked him out the way Tyson did Burbick, knocked him down two or three
00:06:17times with one punch.
00:06:18So you forget about the fact that Powell has to prove he has a good chin.
00:06:21Give Powell credit for the fact that he's taken on a big puncher when at least the,
00:06:26uh, the media has questioned Powell's chin.
00:06:28Well, exactly.
00:06:29And with good reason, as you mentioned.
00:06:30We saw him go down against Brewer the summer before last.
00:06:34But again, guys dealing with adversity, you know, you escape close shaves and you get
00:06:38beyond them, but you better learn from them.
00:06:39And it does seem that Powell fights...
00:06:41First time I ever saw Powell, I said, man, this guy is so aggressive.
00:06:44He looks so strong.
00:06:45And then later I said, no, he's definitely a boxer-puncher.
00:06:48But it's all about knowing who you are, and obviously you try to work on the weaknesses,
00:06:52but you can't work on a weak chin.
00:06:53You just have to stay away from a power hitter.
00:06:56Once again.
00:06:57But I think it is critical.
00:06:58I like what Henry Cortez, who trains and manages Archac Termal Excitation, says, hey, you know,
00:07:03I want TV guys.
00:07:04This is who I have.
00:07:05He's got to go for the KO.
00:07:06And there's no question.
00:07:07To me, he's not as skilled a boxer as Powell.
00:07:10He has fought lefties before, as you say, so that's going to help him a little bit.
00:07:14But in terms of experience, you really have to give it to Powell.
00:07:18And Nick, I have to say, you haven't said Archac Termal Excitation's name wrong once
00:07:22yet.
00:07:23I've said it wrong.
00:07:24I'm two for two.
00:07:25It's impressive.
00:07:26But both of these guys, I think, focus better than they used to.
00:07:29You know, Powell, I'm very familiar with.
00:07:30He's a New Yorker.
00:07:31I've seen a lot of his fights in New York as he's coming up, and he didn't used to work
00:07:34that hard, to be honest with you.
00:07:35I used to hear reports from Gleason's when he trained there that he wasn't all that focused.
00:07:39He's a lot more focused now.
00:07:41He's had a change in trainers, and it seems to be working for him.
00:07:44He also trains at the same gym Jadon Codrington does in Brooklyn, and there's no question.
00:07:49I'm assuming he's got to be a little shaken by what he saw, and that's the reason for
00:07:53the delay.
00:07:54Of course, you've got to have a stretcher.
00:07:56You've got to have an ambulance here at ringside, and there is not one right now as they have
00:08:00obviously taken Jadon Codrington to a hospital.
00:08:04So we can't start the fight without an ambulance crew ready to go at ringside.
00:08:09So let's look at this first fight again.
00:08:12We told you how frightening it was and how explosive it was, and just see for yourself.
00:08:16Alan Green in the black and gold comes out and misses very few, and Jadon Codrington
00:08:21never really landed a blow and never knew what hit him, Steve.
00:08:27It's absolutely the brevity of the fight, Nick.
00:08:28I'm still in shock.
00:08:29It's as if I feel, when does the fight start?
00:08:32It's over.
00:08:33It's over so fast.
00:08:34Codrington wasn't going to get off those ropes, and Green told us yesterday.
00:08:38This is Alan Green who's been at times, I don't want to say lethargic, but not particularly
00:08:42busy in fights, backed up in fights.
00:08:44He said to us yesterday, hey, this Codrington made a big mistake taking me.
00:08:49I'm going to be aggressive.
00:08:51You know what?
00:08:52He didn't take a backwards step.
00:08:53He met Codrington close to Codrington's corner, and this was the end result of his attack.
00:08:58Alan Green never thought of as a puncher, and look what he did to a fighter.
00:09:02Boy, at this point, Nick, you have to say Codrington taking this fight in his 10th fight,
00:09:07I don't necessarily feel that I would have said this before the fight, but it was a mistake.
00:09:12Ringside right now with an attending ringside physician, Dr. Alan Lovelace.
00:09:16Give us an update on Jadon Codrington.
00:09:18David Lovelace.
00:09:20When he was in the ring, he was out cold for probably at least three minutes.
00:09:26The crowd was a big problem for us trying to get him back on the backboard and stabilize
00:09:30his neck so we could send him to the hospital, but we finally got the crowd under control
00:09:34and kept him where he couldn't move so we could keep him stabilized and check his neck.
00:09:39He actually came too and wanted to get off the board, but we kind of insisted that he
00:09:44let us check him out, and we finally decided to go ahead and go to the hospital and get
00:09:48checked out.
00:09:49He came through without any facilitation from you or any other ringside physician?
00:09:53He just came through?
00:09:54Right.
00:09:55He was out cold, and then after about three or four minutes, he actually came to on his
00:09:57own.
00:09:58And when you checked his neck, obviously, for vertebrae damage and such, what goes on?
00:10:03What exactly?
00:10:04Can you get specifics?
00:10:05Well, since he was out cold, there's really nothing we can do to tell for sure without
00:10:09an x-ray, so we wanted to stabilize his neck and get him to the hospital and get him evaluated
00:10:14appropriately with x-rays.
00:10:15And probably a CAT scan of his head is probably what they're going to do.
00:10:19Right.
00:10:20When you were watching this, did you know it was going to go as—I mean, it happened
00:10:22in such blinding fashion, but you were sitting here ringside, and he was helpless in a moment,
00:10:27it seemed.
00:10:28Yeah, it actually brought back bad memories from Alan Green's very first pro debut on
00:10:32Showtime.
00:10:33It was about 18 seconds in the first round of knockout.
00:10:36It wasn't quite as bad for the fighter to come around that quick, but he—it brought
00:10:42back bad memories.
00:10:43Well, thank you, Dr. David Lovelace.
00:10:45Happy that you were ringside and attending.
00:10:48I think he's going to do fine.
00:10:49Once they cleared the smoke from the ring, and a lot of needless intrusion there, but
00:10:54emotions were really running—boiling over as well.
00:10:58And Sakupal, once again, Steve, to talk about that, and not to make too much of it, but
00:11:03was he shaken from this?
00:11:04He's got to put it past him.
00:11:06It's all about being a professional.
00:11:07That's it.
00:11:08It's so difficult, and, you know, that's what focus is all about.
00:11:12And you know, when he fought in Laughlin, Nevada on Showbox, the lights went out.
00:11:17Well, he was in the ring, and there was a long delay.
00:11:19And that tested his focus.
00:11:20You're right.
00:11:21This is the second time it's happened to Sakupal.
00:11:23Obviously, drastically different circumstances this time, and you hope, for his sake, that
00:11:28his focus is there.
00:11:29Well, we're about to see what happens, because we're about to get started.
00:11:33Let's go back up to ring announcer Pat Harker.
00:11:40Ladies and gentlemen, again, welcome to the Buffalo Run Casino here in Miami, Oklahoma.
00:11:47This next bout is brought to you by Dabella Entertainment, in association with Main Events,
00:11:51Tony Holden Productions, the Connecticut Defenders, Connecticut's Hometown Team, and Showtime.
00:11:58Tonight's bouts are sanctioned by the Oklahoma Professional Boxing Commission.
00:12:02Our chairman, Danny Hodge, the executive director, Joe Miller.
00:12:06Introducing the judges as appointed, Jerry Griffin, Gerald Ritter, and Oren Schellenberger,
00:12:15and the referee, Gary Ritter.
00:12:19Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Showbox Main Event of the evening, 10 rounds of boxing
00:12:25in the junior middleweight division.
00:12:29Presenting first, fighting out of the blue corner, wearing silver trunks, and weighing
00:12:34in at 153 pounds, he enters the ring with a record of 15 wins, one loss, with 12 wins
00:12:41coming by way of knockout.
00:12:43Originally from Yerevan, Armenia, now fighting out of Fairview, New Jersey, Archak, the Shark
00:12:51Attack, Terminixation.
00:12:59And fighting out of the red corner, wearing black trunks with white trim, and weighing
00:13:03in at 154 pounds, he enters the ring with an unblemished record, 17 wins, one loss,
00:13:12no losses, with 11 of those wins coming by way of knockout.
00:13:16From Brooklyn, New York, please welcome the Iron Horse, Zeku Powell.
00:13:26Okay, gentlemen, you received your instructions earlier, I want a good clean fight, protect
00:13:38yourself at all times, obey my commands.
00:13:41Let me caution the fighters to keep your punches up, touch your gloves, let's have a good one.
00:13:47You'd think that Archak, who's four inches taller, would have the longer reach, but that's
00:13:52not the case.
00:13:53Powell with the longer reach by an inch, and that should help him outbox Archak, if that's
00:13:57the way he chooses to go.
00:14:00And the unified rules of boxing again apply, and a big key here as we get ready to go,
00:14:06you see nothing out of the ordinary here, 8 ounce gloves, Steve, will be used, and that
00:14:11was by design, Archak Termalexatian had to weigh in at 154, and he made it, he is a puncher,
00:14:19he wants the smaller gloves, 8 instead of 10, and they've got 8.
00:14:22And here's Powell, looks a little bit in the danger zone, he's probing, probing, and Termalexatian,
00:14:29big lead right hand, and that got Powell's respect, and look at Powell's eyes.
00:14:34Move into the body, really watching for those power punches of Termalexatian and the silver.
00:14:43Powell trying to gauge some distance, not snapping that jab, and not being aggressive,
00:14:51very cautious in this first half minute.
00:14:53Well, Archak wants to land that lead right hand.
00:14:57Oh, there's that right, he did, Steve, perfect call behind the jab, but that's always the
00:15:01favorite weapon against the southpaw.
00:15:03There goes the big right hand again.
00:15:06Powell runs into Termalexatian, and man, he does look nice.
00:15:12He is taller than Powell, the reach, as you indicated, very close, though.
00:15:17Termalexatian, very wide stance, trying to close ground and cut off the ring from Powell.
00:15:24Now Powell begins to dial in those combinations, avoids a right hand, gets poked with a right
00:15:30to the body, so Termalexatian, varying his attack nicely, I think, Steve, in this opening
00:15:36minute, and Powell fighting cautiously.
00:15:38Yeah, Archak's menacing, because he's absolutely huge for the weight, I mean, a 6'2 junior
00:15:43middleweight is highly unusual, and he wants to get into a punching match.
00:15:49We've seen Powell on the ropes before, and it's never a good place for him.
00:15:54Box him.
00:16:00Do they need Powell to get that jab going?
00:16:02You hear Al Mitchell in this corner imploring him, don't let Termalexatian set up.
00:16:07Yeah, no, the jab would stop that forward progress of Archak.
00:16:12Watch, they almost get their feet in each other, yeah.
00:16:14Hey, lefty righty, you know how it is.
00:16:17Archak wants to keep that lead left foot outside of the southpaw's lead foot.
00:16:21And he's doing a little bit, but Powell's making it easy, not moving to the right.
00:16:25Powell, very cautious, but his back is grazing the ropes again, not a good place for him
00:16:29to be in as he slams a little bit, a little left to the body of Termalexatian.
00:16:35Termalexatian, cautious, his left hand is low.
00:16:38Now, here comes that right as he puts up a blistering attack, and Powell wisely hangs on.
00:16:44Looks like Powell, though, hit him, but Termalexatian just kept coming.
00:16:47Yeah, he answered.
00:16:48And there, now Powell beginning to rev the engines,
00:16:51moving forward for one of the few times in this fight.
00:16:54Now he'll back off a little bit.
00:16:56Good first round here, Termalexatian very much in control,
00:17:00and Powell cautious, but he gets slammed by a right.
00:17:04Bad sign that Archak's been able to move Powell so close to the ropes so often.
00:17:09Yeah, he's really cutting him off, Steve.
00:17:11We've completed one here in Miami, Oklahoma.
00:17:13This is our main event, ten rounds or less.
00:17:15The guy press on you, and you go to back.
00:17:18You go to the rope, the guy coming, you go down.
00:17:20What happened?
00:17:22Hey, stepping jab.
00:17:23The rope is also tight.
00:17:25You can move down, go back.
00:17:28Give me the water, coach.
00:17:29No, go back.
00:17:30The guy press on to you.
00:17:31You press on the guy at the same time.
00:17:33Attention.
00:17:34Pass it, look at the guy.
00:17:36I feel good, right?
00:17:37Si.
00:17:38Don't reach, baby.
00:17:39Listen.
00:17:40He only trying the right hand.
00:17:42You understand what I'm saying, Saku?
00:17:45Go to the right.
00:17:46And you're not using the jab.
00:17:48Remember we talk about use the jab, son.
00:17:50Alright?
00:17:51Step around.
00:17:52And all your punches...
00:17:53Lefties fight righties.
00:17:55Watch the feet.
00:17:58That's gonna happen again and again.
00:18:00And you know when it's dangerous, a little punch happens.
00:18:02The guy's off balance.
00:18:03He goes down.
00:18:04It's a knockdown.
00:18:05Yeah, it's a five-yard penalty.
00:18:06Yeah.
00:18:07Tripping.
00:18:09Well, they want Powell to move, and they want him to box again.
00:18:11He's an excellent boxer.
00:18:13I don't know.
00:18:14We'll see what Termalek Sutan has.
00:18:16And we know Termalek Sutan has power.
00:18:19And Saku Powell has been down, but we again have seen him be devastating as a boxer.
00:18:26And easily outclassed people that way.
00:18:29He's just flicking that jab out there, though.
00:18:32Not really a shotgun.
00:18:33A little wide there, and he gets hit.
00:18:35Termalek Sutan on the way in.
00:18:37He landed a right and took a right.
00:18:39Beautiful counter by Saku Powell.
00:18:41Yeah, Powell has a nice right hook.
00:18:43Unlike a lot of southpaws who have nothing but a left hand.
00:18:45Box!
00:18:46Good point.
00:18:47But I tell you, this is a little bit of a chess match, Nick.
00:18:50Both guys are looking to counterpunch.
00:18:52Neither's being real busy, because as soon as one punches, the other punches.
00:18:56I gotta tell you, I really like Termalek Sutan's balance for a big guy.
00:18:58You mentioned how tall he is.
00:18:59Nice right hand by him, and he comes back with a right, with a left behind it.
00:19:03But Powell makes him pay countering.
00:19:06Yeah, the best punches in this fight have all been counterpunches.
00:19:08Yeah.
00:19:09And it's really, he's catching Termalek Sutan lunging a little bit.
00:19:12And now Powell takes the lead and pokes that jab in his face.
00:19:14Good move.
00:19:15Yeah, and look at Archak's left hand.
00:19:17He's dropping it a little bit.
00:19:20These guys are almost identical in experience.
00:19:23The only difference, Archak keeps knocking people out.
00:19:25That's why he's fought so few rounds of Powell.
00:19:29Again, he has never been past six.
00:19:30We're in the second, scheduled for ten.
00:19:32But Powell not just trying to dance around and make this a show,
00:19:35and stay away and pile up points.
00:19:37He is willing to counterpunch Archak Termalek Sutan, but cautiously.
00:19:41Very quick hands by Powell, and he displays them there,
00:19:43countering with a left to the belly.
00:19:46Termalek Sutan, low.
00:19:48He's hanging that shoulder out, flicking the jab.
00:19:51At least he's trying the jab against the left-hander.
00:19:54And Powell loves to throw that lead left to the body.
00:19:58Stop, stop, stop, stop.
00:19:59That's when they think he's open for a counter right hand.
00:20:04Termalek Sutan trying to...
00:20:05Stop, stop. Step back, step back.
00:20:08Find those kind of openings when Powell commits first.
00:20:14Termalek Sutan just using that jab,
00:20:16just really a range finder, Steve.
00:20:20Just trying to close distance, isn't he?
00:20:22Yeah, they're both waiting for mistakes,
00:20:24and in a fight like this,
00:20:26where counterpunches are so significant,
00:20:28and where they're really both in range most of the time,
00:20:30straight punches are critical.
00:20:32Powell throws straight shots.
00:20:33Archak does too.
00:20:35It's really not who punches harder,
00:20:37it's who punches at the right time.
00:20:38Don't clinch. You can step out of the clinch.
00:20:40It's box.
00:20:45Oh, nice left by Powell as he drives.
00:20:47Makes Archak Termalek Sutan reset.
00:20:50Make him think twice.
00:20:51That's really what this is about too,
00:20:52before he can just have his way and think he can walk in.
00:20:55Box.
00:20:57You're right about the power.
00:20:58It's striking true, isn't it?
00:20:59Nice right hand from Termalek Sutan.
00:21:01Powell says, bring it on.
00:21:02Yeah, one prop for Archak, I can see already.
00:21:04In trade, in exchanges, he drops his hand.
00:21:08Two brisk rounds completed here in Miami.
00:21:12Oklahoma, that is.
00:21:24What are you doing with those combinations?
00:21:26What are you doing with those combinations?
00:21:32Throw your combinations.
00:21:39You need to listen.
00:21:42Don't fall asleep while I'm there.
00:21:50Throw your jabs.
00:21:52Put one to the left.
00:21:56He's throwing his arms out too low.
00:21:58He's throwing his arms out too low.
00:22:02Keep still. Keep moving.
00:22:04Use your right hand.
00:22:11That's a lot to absorb.
00:22:13Throw that jab.
00:22:14Keep moving. Move to the left.
00:22:15And then throw that right hand.
00:22:17Basically, stay busy and box him.
00:22:20Don't just go for the big home run shot, Steve.
00:22:24Oh, Powell.
00:22:26Dangerous dip there.
00:22:32Double right hand and then a counter left from Powell
00:22:35as he ties up Termalek Sutan.
00:22:42Steve Key has said about dropping his hands and you're right.
00:22:45Let's watch if Powell can...
00:22:49Oh, Powell takes one.
00:22:50Not flush, but a big right hand and now he ties up again
00:22:53and Termalek Sutan muscles him and rubs him up.
00:22:56But a nice move by Powell, spinning off the ropes
00:22:59instead of staying there. That was Key there.
00:23:02And now it's some free swinging here going on from both guys.
00:23:06And Termalek Sutan looks very awkward.
00:23:09Well, Powell gets real low sometimes and
00:23:11Archak's punches go over his head.
00:23:15Powell trying to step back, be more...
00:23:17give him more angles as well.
00:23:20Your hands are free.
00:23:23Steve, I don't think he's stepping around as much as he should
00:23:25to make Termalek Sutan reset.
00:23:27And Termalek Sutan's a little bit quicker than I had figured.
00:23:30Punch out. Your hands are free. Keep punching.
00:23:32Let go. Let go. Stop. Right.
00:23:34He can move. Back up. Box.
00:23:36He's been thus far at least equally as quick as Saku.
00:23:40And I think Archak's fighting very much under control.
00:23:43This is a guy who's blown out a lot of subpar opponents.
00:23:46Now he's fighting a much better fight
00:23:48and he's fighting under control, nice pace, and within himself.
00:23:55And now he'll shorten up or try to shorten up inside.
00:23:58And he catches Powell on the run and has him on the ropes again.
00:24:01Punch out.
00:24:03Low blow. Keep your punches out.
00:24:05That was a low blow.
00:24:08And Gerald Ritter caught it.
00:24:12And now some bruising body action on both parts.
00:24:18Stop. Right.
00:24:20Punch out of the clinch as your hands are free. Box.
00:24:25Stop. Right.
00:24:35Powell short with a jab a couple of times.
00:24:37Turn Alexis in. You can just see him begin to load up.
00:24:41If this were the old Archak, I'd say, Nick,
00:24:43three rounds he hasn't knocked this guy out yet, he's gonna lose.
00:24:45But there's no sign that he's blowing everything he's got
00:24:49and that he's gonna fade late.
00:24:51You're so right. It's hard to take your eyes off.
00:24:53From Powell, and Powell just taking his time,
00:24:56not getting ahead of himself as they exchange punches,
00:24:59but single shots there.
00:25:01Now Powell doing a lot more turning, it seems, Steven.
00:25:03That's, yes. That's what he needs to do.
00:25:07Turn Alexis in, closing it off very nicely
00:25:10as he cuts the ring off.
00:25:12Goes to work before the bell.
00:25:17Fight inside. No problem.
00:25:19You passing-touching-the-guy combination.
00:25:21You the best.
00:25:23Passing-touching-the-guy, right?
00:25:25Passing-touching-the-guy.
00:25:27You're on the wrong. Walking inside, walking inside.
00:25:38The throwing punches.
00:25:40He's getting open.
00:25:45Don't talk so much. Love balls.
00:25:50La derecha baja. Trabajo, ¿verdad?
00:25:52Está poniendo un chiquito bajito.
00:25:54Levanta lo que le doble.
00:25:56Throw some uppercuts as he's moving.
00:25:58Throw some uppercuts.
00:26:00Just like you've been doing.
00:26:02Keep it in your body. Go to the body strong.
00:26:10Back up. Back up.
00:26:12The body and the, uh...
00:26:14Take Powell's legs away, huh, Steve?
00:26:16Well, in that third round, Nick, they both punched his body
00:26:18pretty much for the first time in the fight.
00:26:20Archak did a little more work to the body.
00:26:22It could be critical for both guys
00:26:24because, remember, Archak is new to going ten rounds.
00:26:26Really is.
00:26:28Oh, nice lead.
00:26:30There's the right hand by Powell.
00:26:32Now he's connecting, but not strictly headhunting.
00:26:34Burying his attack nicely there
00:26:36as he goes to the body there with the left.
00:26:38Now flicking that right hand out once and again
00:26:40and trying to drive Termilex Atan back.
00:26:42But Termilex Atan with that straight right.
00:26:44Stop. Listen.
00:26:46Now the clinch as your hands are free. Box.
00:26:52So after 3, Steve, how do you have it?
00:26:54I have a 2-1 for Archak.
00:26:5629-28.
00:26:58Could mean that Powell's playing catch-up.
00:27:00Again, he has learned patience.
00:27:04Still looking to create those openings.
00:27:06And again,
00:27:08if he would move,
00:27:10it might make the slugger
00:27:12look a little more awkward, Steve.
00:27:14Well, Powell's starting to use
00:27:16a little bit more lateral movement, turning Archak.
00:27:18And you know what? Archak's left hand
00:27:20this whole round has been down
00:27:22by his everlasting sign on his waistband,
00:27:24and that's why Powell's landing right hooks.
00:27:28That's strange. They want to
00:27:30move him to his left.
00:27:34Stop. No.
00:27:36No knockdown. No knockdown.
00:27:40Box.
00:27:42Archak slipped on that
00:27:44Holden Promotions
00:27:46pillow there.
00:27:48Yeah, I've complained about that before.
00:27:50I have to say, the Ritter brothers
00:27:52do a good job here in Oklahoma.
00:27:54Very good. They're appreciating this one.
00:27:56Referee.
00:27:58Just jumps on top and has had complete control
00:28:00of this fight. But he hasn't had to break
00:28:02him up much.
00:28:04Good, a solid action. Nice left hand
00:28:06by Powell.
00:28:08And that seemed to wake up and stir
00:28:10a little bit.
00:28:12He's got Powell on the ropes, and Powell
00:28:14wisely gets off and hangs on.
00:28:16First two minutes.
00:28:18First two minutes of this round that could have been
00:28:20the best in the fight, I believe, for Powell.
00:28:22He's landed right hooks, he's landed some jabs,
00:28:24flush. It's premature to say
00:28:26that Archak is slowing down, but
00:28:28I know that Powell's counting on that happening.
00:28:30I agree with you completely, Steve.
00:28:34Powell's been very patient in this fight,
00:28:36but not certainly giving away rounds,
00:28:38obviously trying to see what this guy has.
00:28:42Now there's
00:28:44Termalekzitan trying to land the uppercut,
00:28:46but he seems to arm punch when he
00:28:48doesn't shorten up inside well, Steve.
00:28:50Observation. I hear Powell making him pay here,
00:28:52trying to drive him back.
00:28:54So it looks like Termalekzitan likes that full extension.
00:28:56Yes, he needs the full extension.
00:28:58If Powell's on the ropes,
00:29:00Archak should not make the mistake of
00:29:02falling in with him and fighting on the inside.
00:29:04It gives away his advantage.
00:29:06But measure him, huh?
00:29:08Closing out the fourth, this one is
00:29:10zipping by here in Miami, Oklahoma.
00:29:12Time!
00:29:18Showbox is back
00:29:20in two weeks for the Battle of New Englanders.
00:29:22Chad Dawson of New Haven, Connecticut
00:29:24will try to stretch his undefeated record
00:29:26in front of the hometown fans when he faces
00:29:28Ian Gardner of Brockton, Mass
00:29:30in a 12-round super middleweight main event.
00:29:32Join us for the next edition of
00:29:34Showbox the New Generation,
00:29:36Friday, November 18th at 11 p.m.
00:29:38Eastern and Pacific.
00:29:54The key for Sekou Powell,
00:29:56turning his man,
00:29:58look at the distance he's at,
00:30:00and then he steps back.
00:30:02It's tough for Powell because by
00:30:04being close enough to hit Archak,
00:30:06of course he's in range
00:30:08for Archak's power shots, too.
00:30:12I'm a little surprised he's not utilizing his jab
00:30:14more, Powell.
00:30:16And working off that.
00:30:18Let's see if it happens.
00:30:20Well, it'd be a good punch to use more and more
00:30:22because, A, he will stop some of
00:30:24Archak's forward progress, and B,
00:30:26Archak's left hand is so low, you'd think that jab
00:30:28would have a place to land.
00:30:30Yeah, it's the kind of technique that
00:30:32Powell, I think, needs to generate his most effective
00:30:34offense. He's not a one-punch gun
00:30:36by any means. He's a combination
00:30:38puncher.
00:30:42He really takes some risks here with this big guy.
00:30:48You're alright.
00:30:50Time in.
00:30:52Box.
00:30:56Powell walking in behind the jab.
00:31:00But the much taller
00:31:02Term-Alexitain, not too easy to hit with that.
00:31:04The jab having a trajectory
00:31:06upwards against the much taller man.
00:31:08Yeah, that's where the reach
00:31:10doesn't come into play, but the height does.
00:31:12Yeah. If you're trying to hit the guy in the chin,
00:31:14you need the stepladder to do it.
00:31:16Look, and he got flush and driven
00:31:18back there. See if that rocked
00:31:20him at all. Oh, yes.
00:31:22Term-Alexitain says
00:31:24bring it on, but he's backing off.
00:31:26He wants to make this
00:31:28slugfest on the ropes for him, but he got hit
00:31:30twice. He did. And it's very
00:31:32important for Powell if Archak backs off.
00:31:34Get in real close or stay way out.
00:31:36Yeah, exactly. And Powell
00:31:38threading the needle now. Now he's back in the center of the ring.
00:31:40Let's see if he'll move and turn
00:31:42as Archak, Term-Alexitain
00:31:44comes on like a charging bull.
00:31:46He was stung here in the fifth round.
00:31:48Get your arm away.
00:31:54And we're really seeing Sekou Powell advance
00:31:56as a prospect. He got pinned to the ropes
00:31:58there. First thing he did, grabbed his man.
00:32:00That's a sign of maturity.
00:32:02Absolutely. I like his patience
00:32:04in this fight, Steve, so far.
00:32:06But again, Term-Alexitain
00:32:08is a dangerous ombre here. He's in the
00:32:10fifth, never been past six.
00:32:12Looks
00:32:14like he could be the more, definitely looks like
00:32:16the more fatigued fighter, but he's not stuffing
00:32:18on his tongue again, as they say
00:32:20by any means.
00:32:22Powell doing exactly what he needs to do,
00:32:24stretch him out. It's not that Archak
00:32:26is that tired, he's not breathing heavy, I'm watching
00:32:28him between rounds, but he's not particularly busy
00:32:30during the round. Right.
00:32:32And the
00:32:34sign of a prospect coming of age is to
00:32:36increase the pressure as the fight gets deeper.
00:32:38Let's see if that'll be
00:32:40possible for the Armenian.
00:32:42Now he steps up
00:32:44the intensity, and now rattles
00:32:46Powell, it seems like a good combination, but
00:32:48Powell very smoothly counters
00:32:50and spins away.
00:32:52Middle of the ring.
00:32:54Powell, the man
00:32:56closing distance now.
00:32:58He looks very much in control, but
00:33:00very aware of the
00:33:02power in both
00:33:04fists from Archak Term-Alexitain.
00:33:08Powell wraps into the
00:33:10combination.
00:33:12Approaching the halfway mark
00:33:14of this fight here in Miami, Oklahoma.
00:33:22He'll stare down and talk down
00:33:24before the bell, and the crowd's getting into this one.
00:33:38You have to start working.
00:33:52You need to work to his left.
00:33:58The last two rounds have been the best for
00:34:00Sekou Powell so far.
00:34:02Steps in nicely with a right-left
00:34:04again. Why did those shots land?
00:34:06Archak's hands are low.
00:34:08And for the first time in the fight, in this
00:34:10fifth round right here, which you're seeing,
00:34:12Archak backed up to the ropes. That's what
00:34:14he's trying to get Powell to do.
00:34:16Waves Powell in,
00:34:18but that's just bravado.
00:34:20Right. He'll advise, too.
00:34:22Really like Powell's left hand.
00:34:24And what's so effective, Steve? Of course, he
00:34:26leads with it there, but when he works
00:34:28behind the jab, even more so.
00:34:30As you said,
00:34:32Term-Alexitain is not the busier guy, and he's
00:34:34got to get busy, as his corner just indicated.
00:34:36This fight could be slipping away.
00:34:38He certainly has lost the momentum he had
00:34:40earlier, but now he's coming on big
00:34:42and has Powell against the ropes.
00:34:44A little infighting here, but
00:34:46little arm punches. Now he's trying
00:34:48to measure and line up Powell.
00:34:50Almost curving and hitting.
00:34:52Powell content
00:34:54to lay on the ropes, absorbing shots
00:34:56to the ribs, and
00:34:58Term-Alexitain trying to unzip him.
00:35:00Now Powell just laying in the woods a little bit
00:35:02as he
00:35:04gains his momentum and
00:35:06is content to slug.
00:35:08With the seemingly bigger
00:35:10man, number 8-ounce gloves is what
00:35:12Term-Alexitain wanted, and they've got
00:35:14some puncher's gloves in there.
00:35:16When Powell's on the inside, he's got to
00:35:18watch out for Archak's uppercut,
00:35:20but Archak has to watch out for Powell
00:35:22countering that uppercut, because it's the easiest
00:35:24punch in boxing to counter. Right.
00:35:26Actually, it's Powell wearing the Grant gloves,
00:35:28which are not as much a puncher's glove
00:35:30as the Everlast.
00:35:36Should Powell be standing
00:35:38there a while? Is there any reason for it, Steve?
00:35:40You know, he's letting Archak punch himself out
00:35:42a little bit. In that sense, it's a good idea. He's trying to play
00:35:44his game, saying, it's your turn, it's my turn.
00:35:46But he was doing so well in ring center,
00:35:48I don't know why he doesn't just go back there.
00:35:50Right, getting hit a little bit,
00:35:52rushed to the ribs as
00:35:54Term-Alexitain attacks the body,
00:35:56probing, probing, stings him with a left hook.
00:36:02Powell drives a left hand
00:36:04and stomps him in the face
00:36:06and draws blood now, as Term-Alexitain
00:36:08bleeding from the right nostril,
00:36:10the result of that heavy left hand
00:36:12by Saku Powell.
00:36:16Powell trying to dial in again,
00:36:18a little wide with the punches, but they're still
00:36:20hitting their mark, Steve, grazing blows,
00:36:22but they're doing enough damage to pile up points.
00:36:24Stop, break, step back, step back,
00:36:26both fighters, box. You get the impression
00:36:28at this point, Nick, that Saku thinks he has
00:36:30his man. Yeah. He's being more aggressive.
00:36:32He's letting Archak punch
00:36:34as if he doesn't fear Archak's power anymore.
00:36:36Maybe a mistake.
00:36:43Term-Alexitain has been
00:36:45six twice.
00:36:50Three times, actually, but never beyond that.
00:36:52And we are
00:36:54almost out of the sixth.
00:36:56Term-Alexitain blasting away,
00:36:58but not getting that kind of leverage
00:37:00he does often from outside.
00:37:02They are just
00:37:04rolling a couple of shots without much
00:37:06to them.
00:37:13Oh!
00:37:19Time!
00:37:34Strategy in round six by Powell,
00:37:36letting Archak do all
00:37:38the punching. Do these shots land?
00:37:40Well, you see there's not much on
00:37:42a lot of these shots, but where
00:37:44Archak was successful is when he punched
00:37:46to the body.
00:37:48Those baby shots aren't counting
00:37:50for much, but those left hooks sure do.
00:37:52Again, left hook
00:37:54outside of the right elbow of Powell,
00:37:56and then late in the round, Powell comes back
00:37:58a little bit. Powell landed the cleaner
00:38:00shots in round six, but I'll tell you,
00:38:02Archak was awfully busy, the busiest
00:38:04he's been yet.
00:38:06Tough round to score.
00:38:08How do you have it, Steve?
00:38:1057-57, I gave Archak that round.
00:38:12Wow.
00:38:14We head to the seventh here, it's scheduled for ten.
00:38:16Steve, Term-Alexitain,
00:38:18Powell was aware of two dangerous things
00:38:20about him, that left hook when he's in close,
00:38:22it makes sense, that's closer to the
00:38:24chin of Powell, and that right from afar.
00:38:26But he's got to start boxing his way in,
00:38:28working off that jab, and now we see him
00:38:30with his hands high for the first time in a while,
00:38:34making it more difficult.
00:38:36Oh, but Powell threads the needle again
00:38:38with that left hand, and that has been
00:38:40his big punch in this fight.
00:38:44Powell displaying good
00:38:46combination punching as he begins
00:38:48to string those shots together.
00:38:52When they're in close,
00:38:54it would serve Powell very well
00:38:56to punch more to the body.
00:38:58It's very important that
00:39:00Archak gets tired for Powell to be successful.
00:39:02Seven rounds or more, hey,
00:39:04we're in round seven, Archak's never
00:39:06been there.
00:39:10What do you think of Powell's defense, Steve?
00:39:12When he's moving to the side,
00:39:14it's real good, and his hands,
00:39:16he has to keep his hands up, right now they're low.
00:39:20What about Term-Alexitain?
00:39:22He knows it's pretty close.
00:39:24What can he sharpen up and do better?
00:39:26Well, you said it yourself,
00:39:28he started this round with his hands higher,
00:39:30that's big.
00:39:32And he's got to get busy.
00:39:34He's had good success when he's pinned Powell
00:39:36against the ropes.
00:39:38And by being busy, he'll do that more.
00:39:42Now he resets and Powell's
00:39:44waiting to make his move.
00:39:46He jumps in with that left,
00:39:48that lead left hand that's been effective as well.
00:39:56Big improvement by Archak.
00:39:58When he fought down here in Sulaiman,
00:40:00he couldn't get the quick hand, he fell apart.
00:40:02He looked like a bully that just didn't get his way.
00:40:04This fight, he stayed under control,
00:40:06he's weathered the tough moments,
00:40:08he's still in the fight.
00:40:10Little sloppy there though, he just hasn't been
00:40:12accurate when he's had his shots at Powell,
00:40:14and Powell has been on the counter,
00:40:16clocking him with regularity
00:40:18after Term-Alexitain's attack.
00:40:20Let's see if he does it again.
00:40:22There it is.
00:40:24But now he...
00:40:26Archak returns favor,
00:40:28and muscles
00:40:30Powell towards the ropes.
00:40:32And Gerald Ritter breaks him.
00:40:34Or Gary Ritter, I should say.
00:40:36Why do I mix these twins up?
00:40:38Everybody does.
00:40:42You know what?
00:40:44Sakoov Powell's proven over
00:40:46six plus rounds
00:40:48that he's got better mobility
00:40:50and better upper body movement.
00:40:52When they're on the inside like this,
00:40:54neither one of those things come into play very much.
00:40:56You're right, Steve.
00:40:58Powell just looks like he's just controlling this
00:41:02fight,
00:41:04and even at times not controlling distance.
00:41:06And here comes
00:41:08Term-Alexitain.
00:41:10Trying to close the gap once more.
00:41:14Time!
00:41:20He's got it.
00:41:22He's got it.
00:41:24He's got it.
00:41:28More boxing coming your way tomorrow night
00:41:30here on Showtime.
00:41:34America's Fight Night is on Showtime
00:41:36on the first Saturday of every month.
00:41:40Tomorrow, it's the most powerful,
00:41:42most dominant fighter
00:41:44in the super middleweight division,
00:41:46undefeated champion Jeff Lacey.
00:41:48Now he makes his fourth title defense
00:41:50against the number one contender
00:41:52Scott Pemberton.
00:41:54Jeff Lacey vs. Scott Pemberton
00:41:56plus Rafael Marquez vs. Silence Mabuza
00:41:58tomorrow at 9 p.m.
00:42:04It's America's Fight Night
00:42:06on America's number one boxing network.
00:42:10Okay?
00:42:12Okay, bro?
00:42:16Let's go, seconds.
00:42:18Let's go, let's go.
00:42:20Ahead to the eighth here in Miami, Oklahoma.
00:42:22Back up. Back up.
00:42:24Box.
00:42:30Let's see Powell trying to create more offense here,
00:42:32but it's Term-Alexitain who's got to generate
00:42:34some power
00:42:38because he isn't outboxing Saku Powell.
00:42:40He wanted a knockout,
00:42:42knew he needed the knockout.
00:42:44Of course, neither man's been down in this fight,
00:42:46and Term-Alexitain's
00:42:48taken the worst of it.
00:42:54That's it. Stop. Break.
00:42:56Break, break, break, break. Let go, let go.
00:42:58Box.
00:43:02Now it's him infighting center of the ring,
00:43:04and it's Powell
00:43:06getting the last shot in there,
00:43:08so those second and third shots are connecting
00:43:10for Saku Powell,
00:43:12and he's just out punching.
00:43:14He's overpowering
00:43:16Term-Alexitain, but there once again
00:43:18with those clean-up punches
00:43:20and that right hook landed after the jab
00:43:22and right hook, or the left hook.
00:43:28Term-Alexitain moving forward here.
00:43:30He's got Powell in the corner.
00:43:32Powell definitely spins away.
00:43:34Now middle of the ropes, using his legs.
00:43:36His legs have carried him
00:43:38well in this fight.
00:43:40We're in the eighth, scheduled for ten.
00:43:42Step back.
00:43:44Box.
00:43:48Well, I'm just surprised that
00:43:50Powell could be content
00:43:52to stand there and slug with this guy
00:43:54at times. Stop. Break.
00:43:56Keep him on balance. I thought that
00:43:58Term-Alexitain at first showed that he's a big guy
00:44:00with good balance, but he hadn't really been
00:44:02able to get set and punch.
00:44:04But even when he does, it's Powell there coming back
00:44:06and stopping him in his tracks.
00:44:08You know, expectations
00:44:10come into play, and when a fighter's expectations
00:44:12aren't met, sometimes that can
00:44:14affect their performance. Archak was
00:44:16absolutely sure he was gonna knock Powell out, but Powell
00:44:18didn't have the chin to withstand his power.
00:44:20That hasn't happened. Powell was absolutely
00:44:22sure Archak would be totally spent by now.
00:44:24That hasn't happened. They both
00:44:26have to adjust. Yeah, that was the drama
00:44:28here, but I also feel that
00:44:30Term-Alexitain knew that he had
00:44:32to knock Powell out. That was the only way,
00:44:34that he could not box him. But he has had
00:44:36his moments, Steve. Stop. Stop. Break.
00:44:38Nobody's been down, as you said, and you've given him
00:44:40how many rounds? Well, I have to
00:44:42very close. After seven, I have Powell ahead by a point.
00:44:46So Term-Alexitain
00:44:48by no means a one-trick
00:44:50pony here. He's got
00:44:52more in the bag. He can do some
00:44:54boxing, and now Powell's gotta be careful
00:44:56here as Term-Alexitain tries
00:44:58to run him down, but there goes his little arm shots
00:45:00when he's got Powell in close.
00:45:02Stop. Break. Step back. Step back.
00:45:04Judges love volume punching,
00:45:06and when they're against the ropes,
00:45:08Archak is doing that.
00:45:10Yeah, but don't they love the quality punching?
00:45:12Well, they should. Yeah, they should, but...
00:45:16And I really think that the quality shots
00:45:18clearly have been Powell's
00:45:20tonight. And it's been that left hand.
00:45:22Powell with that right hand low now.
00:45:24Time!
00:45:26Two rounds to go.
00:45:30The guy hit you
00:45:32but you still hit him.
00:45:34What you doing?
00:45:38Not too much holding.
00:45:42You gotta punch underneath.
00:45:44Drill your shots, man.
00:45:46Drill your shots, son.
00:45:48You got him there on the edge,
00:45:50and you keep letting him slide away.
00:45:52The guy fight you inside.
00:45:58Michael, let me get that bottle of water.
00:46:04You need to get on him
00:46:06and hit him every minute.
00:46:12Literally, you gotta suck it up.
00:46:14That's exactly what Henry Cortez told him here
00:46:16as we head to the ninth.
00:46:18Tough one to score, Steve.
00:46:20It has been a tough one to score.
00:46:22Especially that last round.
00:46:24I have it that even 76-76.
00:46:26During his better offensive moments,
00:46:28Archak's been much busier,
00:46:30but a lot of the shots have been baby punches.
00:46:32And a lot of the shots haven't landed.
00:46:34Powell's landed the flusher shots
00:46:36as he does right there with the right hook.
00:46:38Unofficially, I like Powell in this one.
00:46:40I haven't been keeping ground around Stulor.
00:46:42But, uh...
00:46:44I think he's won 5 of 8.
00:46:50And of course, we're all 10-9 moms.
00:46:52Nobody's been down in this fight.
00:46:54Tom Oleksandr, the advertised power puncher,
00:46:56showing they can box as well.
00:46:58But Sekou Powell...
00:47:00Slicker and perhaps more effective.
00:47:02But now he's flat-footed,
00:47:04just waiting, waiting, stepping back
00:47:06and hoping that Tom Oleksandr
00:47:08will run into some shots there.
00:47:10Now we'll see if Powell can start
00:47:12giving him some angles here.
00:47:14Moving away there underneath.
00:47:16Trapped in the corner.
00:47:18And here come those little shots
00:47:20from Tom Oleksandr.
00:47:22He doesn't step back and try to rifle one.
00:47:24He's looking to his corner.
00:47:26You saw the bruised face
00:47:28of Tom Oleksandr.
00:47:30The nose, the eye.
00:47:32He has been getting hit.
00:47:34Low, low, low, low.
00:47:36Regularity.
00:47:38Nick, this is the portion of the fight
00:47:40where Powell was counting on Archak being tired.
00:47:42Look who the guy is punching.
00:47:44Look who the guy is backing the other one up.
00:47:46I know the shots aren't that effective.
00:47:48But...
00:47:50Even on the inside,
00:47:52you can see that Tom Oleksandr
00:47:54is getting a little tired.
00:47:56But even on the inside
00:47:58where you think Powell would be safer,
00:48:00he's getting outpunched.
00:48:02That worked anyway.
00:48:04I shouldn't say outpunched.
00:48:06Unless he's absolutely fatigued,
00:48:08and I don't think he is,
00:48:10can you really believe he has a safe lead?
00:48:12I think he has a lead, but how safe could it be?
00:48:14Yeah, it's a pretty close fight.
00:48:16And we should point out,
00:48:18neutral officials
00:48:20for Powell to come down here,
00:48:22you have one from Texas,
00:48:24one from Oklahoma,
00:48:26and one from Missouri.
00:48:28Well, I would be screaming
00:48:30at Powell from the corner right now
00:48:32to get busy.
00:48:34He really has to get going.
00:48:36Unless he's just taking this round off.
00:48:38Well, he clearly is.
00:48:40Looking for openings now.
00:48:42He opens up both barrels
00:48:44and sits on the second strand.
00:48:46He opens up both barrels
00:48:48and sits on the second strand.
00:48:52Getting a better shot coming from Powell.
00:48:54No doubt.
00:49:00Francisco Guzman, the trainer,
00:49:02with some sign language from the corner.
00:49:04He wants combinations from his man.
00:49:06In other words, rev it up
00:49:08and get busier.
00:49:10We are late in round nine.
00:49:16That was really good.
00:49:30With a stare down,
00:49:32with one round to go,
00:49:34this guy
00:49:36wins the round.
00:49:46Come on.
00:49:48Come on.
00:49:50Come on.
00:49:52Come on.
00:49:54Come on.
00:49:56Come on.
00:49:58Come on.
00:50:00Come on.
00:50:02Come on.
00:50:04Come on.
00:50:06Come on.
00:50:08Come on.
00:50:10Come on.
00:50:12Come on.
00:50:15Let's go, guys.
00:50:19determiner.
00:50:27linewater,
00:50:29linewater,
00:50:31linewater,
00:50:37the line,
00:50:39the line,
00:50:41the line,
00:50:43It looks like he's going to the distance.
00:50:45No, no, no, no, stop, stop, stop.
00:50:48Slip in the corner.
00:50:50Oh, in front of us.
00:50:53Oh, he's finishing strong.
00:50:55Right, right, right, right.
00:50:57Fuck.
00:50:58He's going to make a pitch at the top.
00:51:02Every fucking slugger.
00:51:05So you can't decide that.
00:51:07Right, right, right.
00:51:09Oh.
00:51:10Five.
00:51:11Four.
00:51:12Three.
00:51:13Two.
00:51:14One.
00:51:15Go ahead.
00:51:16That was important.
00:51:17Very good to see how the judges scored that.
00:51:20I squared five minutes against him, but Jack been powered,
00:51:24having some pitch to hold.
00:51:27Sometime I fish out, I felt that way to clean them.
00:51:29That was an important sequence, there.
00:51:32Puffs alone, maybe he crossed the indistinct.
00:51:35But he's-
00:51:37Never been blocked by the power of the X-Ten.
00:51:42It is true that he lacks leverage.
00:51:45But he's got the right motions and power.
00:51:48So he's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:51:52He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:51:53He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:51:54He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:51:55He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:51:56He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:51:57He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:51:58He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:51:59He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:00He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:01He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:02He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:03He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:04He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:05He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:06He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:07He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:08He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:09He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:10He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:11He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:12He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:13He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:15He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:16He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:17He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:18He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:19He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:20He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:21He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:22He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:23He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:24He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:25He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.
00:52:26He's a strong man that can act much as I thought he would.

00:56:59Archekthur-Maleksitayan deserved better
00:57:01Archekthur-Maleksitayan deserved better
00:57:03in that instance, 100 to 91, Judge David Steve.
00:57:07I mean, he's a 91, Judge David Steeve.
00:57:09I added 96-94, Nick.
00:57:11Two of the judges added 97-93.
00:57:13That seems reasonable.
00:57:14They went for the fact that Powell landed
00:57:16the cleaner shots throughout.
00:57:17They were unimpressed by Archak's busy style
00:57:21on the inside, and Powell probably should have fought
00:57:24on the inside a lot less in this fight
00:57:27or could have been more effective
00:57:28on the inside than he was, but he got away with it.
00:57:32There we see Powell as he moves on.
00:57:35The 6-year-old moves to 18-0.
00:57:38Still 11 KOs because Termilek Zatayan
00:57:40was very much around here for the finish,
00:57:44but again, Al Mitchell in the corner
00:57:47said that Powell hurt his hand
00:57:49midway through this fight, his left hand,
00:57:51which was his most effective weapon
00:57:53certainly the early stages of this fight
00:57:55and even down the stretch at times, hurt or not.
00:58:00So, Sekou Powell, pretty polished performance.
00:58:06As we see him still in the ring
00:58:07and the guy walking past us,
00:58:09obviously dejected, Archak Termilek Zatayan.
00:58:13And before, Steve, we address the winner here,
00:58:17I want to ask you about the loser
00:58:19going into this fight.
00:58:22Let's look at Powell again.
00:58:24Yeah, he was in one, 10 rounds.
00:58:28Not the best, but he'll take it.
00:58:31Well, it's a real big win for Powell
00:58:34because it's very, very bad for a young fighter
00:58:37to get a reputation that he might have a weak chin.
00:58:41And in two fights on Showbox,
00:58:44two previous fights against Grady Brewer
00:58:47and against Bundrage in the double knockdown fight,
00:58:51Powell got dropped.
00:58:52And here he fights the biggest puncher
00:58:54of his career to date, never gets hurt.
00:58:57That says so much, and it'll start dispelling
00:59:00what might be a myth that he has a weak chin.
00:59:02In that sense, he went 10 rounds with a big puncher
00:59:05and certainly survived it.
00:59:08Big win for Saku Powell.
00:59:10He has won 1 1⁄2 fights, to quote his handlers,
00:59:12away from fighting a top-10 contender.
00:59:14Steve, very quickly on Termilek Zatayan.
00:59:17Going in, we talked to him at the meetings,
00:59:19and they said flat out, if we lose this fight,
00:59:20we're just another opponent. Do you believe that?
00:59:22You know, he grew a lot in this fight.
00:59:23I agree.
00:59:25That's a funny thing because here's a puncher
00:59:26who had never been past six rounds and looked dreadful
00:59:28in his one previous loss.
00:59:29He looked a lot better this time.
00:59:31I wouldn't call him a trial horse at this time,
00:59:33but the fact that he couldn't beat Powell,
00:59:35he's not a top prospect anymore either.
00:59:36Well, two unbeaten fighters came out of this tonight,
00:59:39and one of them went down, Jadon Codrington.
00:59:42We want to update you.
00:59:43The fight for him was over in 22 seconds
00:59:46as Alan Green launched a brutal assault on him,
00:59:49knocking him out 18 seconds into the fight.
00:59:52We want to update you.
00:59:53Jadon Codrington taken to the hospital,
00:59:56suffered a fracture of his sixth vertebrae.
00:59:59He's okay. They expect full recovery.
01:00:01Whether he will box again,
01:00:03I would certainly not hazard a guess right now.
01:00:06This, according to Lou DiBella,
01:00:07the promoter of Jadon Codrington,
01:00:10a devastating moment here in Miami, Oklahoma.
01:00:13There was chaos in the ring,
01:00:15a lot of emotions boiling over, but very scary.
01:00:19Nick, it was a very scary moment.
01:00:22I was very aggravated because all that matters
01:00:25in a moment like that is the fighter's health.
01:00:27Come on, this is not the first fighter
01:00:28that's been hurt badly in a ring.
01:00:30Get the hell out of the ring and let the doctors do their job.
01:00:33That's one point.
01:00:34The other point, unfortunately,
01:00:36the emphasis is obviously on Codrington's health
01:00:38and not on the fact that Green's victory pales right now.
01:00:42It's not all that important, but it was a sensational win
01:00:44for Alan Green, and he's a sensational prospect now
01:00:47at 168 pounds, but, again,
01:00:49the emphasis has to be on Jadon Codrington's health.
01:00:51Absolutely. So, recapping the night,
01:00:54Alan Green remains undefeated,
01:00:56Jadon Codrington in the hospital right now.
01:00:59A shocking display, brutal assault.
01:01:01Codrington never knew what hit him.
01:01:04The answer was Alan Green.
