00:00:00In a world where the IT thing is always changing, sometimes you need a tour guide or two to help you find your way to Pop Culture's Paradise.
00:00:07If you find yourself reminiscing or in need of a good recommendation, these two have you covered.
00:00:12And now, here's your hosts, Joey and Jeff!
00:00:21Welcome back to Pop Culture Paradise. My name is Joe, and I think you know who this guy is.
00:00:26What's going on? I'm Jeff.
00:00:28And today, Jeff and I are going to bring you back to the past to discuss something we all had,
00:00:34even though we're not quite sure why we even had one.
00:00:37Jeff, can you take a guess what today's topic is about?
00:00:40Well, I know what it is. He told me ahead of time, and it's on the title as the viewers are watching this.
00:00:45But we're hopping in the Wayback Machine, and we're gonna discuss just...
00:00:50I don't know if there's a better word to describe it than this, just the craze that was the Razor Scooter.
00:00:55And we're gonna discuss and, you know, and come up with theories as to why that became so popular,
00:01:00because I'm still scratching my head all these 20-some-odd years later
00:01:04as to why everybody in the neighborhood had to have one.
00:01:08It was a legitimate craze. Like, you have Furbies, you have Pokémon cards,
00:01:12and for some reason, you had the Razor Scooter, and all the knockoffs.
00:01:16And the scooter kind of fell into that, like, when people make a joke of that time period.
00:01:21That's one of the three or four items they name-checked that everybody had to have.
00:01:26And it was, like, so big, and then gone.
00:01:29Which just makes it like a Furby, or a Nanobaby, or...
00:01:33It had no lasting popularity, except it kind of did from my research.
00:01:38It's still going today. They still have versions of this.
00:01:41Really?
00:01:42Yeah! I was shocked.
00:01:44I even learned, and we'll find out, there are ongoing Razor Scooter trick competition leagues.
00:01:52So, they want to make it as big as your BMX, or your skateboarding, or even inline.
00:01:59So, there's, like, superstars in this industry,
00:02:03and even the kids that I see in the 2000 videos we're gonna see,
00:02:07they're, like, now coaches and ambassadors.
00:02:10They're like the Tony Hawks of scootering.
00:02:13Let me just say, there was a very short window of time
00:02:17where somebody could get away with bringing a Razor Scooter to the skate park.
00:02:23Because after that time frame, if you did,
00:02:26you either got laughed out of the park, or you got beat up.
00:02:29I wanted to figure out where this all came from,
00:02:33and, like, what made it even popular in the first place.
00:02:36How did it just spring up overnight?
00:02:38And one of my first things I like to do is think,
00:02:40all right, what in pop culture may have influenced this, right?
00:02:44And I went on those websites where it tells you, like, TV tropes,
00:02:48where, oh, this type of thing happens in all kinds of different sitcom episodes,
00:02:52or this major pop phenomenon showed up in all this media,
00:02:57and I wanted to see where did the scooter show up.
00:02:59And the closest thing I got was the scooter was ridden by the kids on According to Jim,
00:03:05and I honestly don't think trends came from the TV show According to Jim.
00:03:10No, I don't think they did either.
00:03:11I don't even remember that show, one.
00:03:13And two, I just remember, like, randomly,
00:03:17certain kids in the, you know, neighborhood would have one,
00:03:21or you'd see kids at, you know, riding them to school and back,
00:03:25and you're like, what is that?
00:03:27And then soon, it's like, you don't want to be left out and be the only one that didn't have one,
00:03:31so you're beating down your parents' door trying to get them to buy you a Razor Scooter.
00:03:35And if I remember, they were significantly more expensive back during this craze
00:03:40than you can just go score one at Walmart today.
00:03:43Yeah, it was one of those things where you had to, like,
00:03:45make sure the store had a certain supply in, and then you had to rush.
00:03:49If you didn't get there in time, that supply was going to be gone,
00:03:52and I believe we got our—
00:03:54I bought mine with extra Christmas money and made sure that it was the Razor Scooter.
00:04:00I believe I got mine at, like, Sears, maybe, or Filene's.
00:04:05I believe one of those department stores where they have a section for all this stuff,
00:04:09but you don't think of it as the place to buy toys or stuff for kids, other than clothes.
00:04:14I think maybe my first one, it might have been a knockoff,
00:04:17but the only way you could legitimately tell is on the front, you know, steel part.
00:04:23It said Razor across it.
00:04:25There was one that I had that I think began with an S,
00:04:27but I just can't remember the name of it,
00:04:29and hopefully you have some, like, you know, clips of it here,
00:04:32but I think my first one was a knockoff,
00:04:36and if you never got off the scooter, nobody could tell.
00:04:40And then I think I may have stole one from somebody.
00:04:42I'm just going to put that out there, okay?
00:04:44But we're not snitches here in Pop Culture Paradise, so we'll keep this to ourselves.
00:04:48So if you're not familiar with the Razor Scooter,
00:04:50let's give you an example of what a Razor Scooter is.
00:04:53This is a little bit newer than what we grew up with, but it's pretty close.
00:04:58Honestly, time period footage of the scooter buried all around the net,
00:05:04and it's so strange for something so popular.
00:05:07Finding early material wasn't that easy,
00:05:10so I even had to go into the personal family archive to find home movie footage
00:05:15of when my sister got a scooter and when I get the scooter in 2000.
00:05:20But let's first take a look at the Razor Scooter.
00:05:23Dude, you just digging finding all this stuff is why we're friends.
00:05:28I love it.
00:05:30Dude, there it is. The thing is slick, right?
00:05:34Absolutely. Now, this is how pretty much all the kids I knew rode the scooter.
00:05:38Right. Little kicking, little pushing, smooth surface, no tricks, no frills.
00:05:43No, just to, you know, casually just cruise around.
00:05:46This one looks a little bit souped up.
00:05:49Now, I think what Razor really did right was those colors pop.
00:05:53Oh, yeah, you know, with the wheels.
00:05:56And then I think, so you had your brake on the back,
00:05:58but then they started dropping ones that had the little like wheelie bar on it.
00:06:03So you could just, you know, ride up on one wheel.
00:06:07This girl is struggling a little bit.
00:06:10Yeah, but look at her. She looks so happy.
00:06:11And then you watch this as a kid.
00:06:13You're like, I want to be as happy as this little girl is.
00:06:15And there's a perfect example. Those colors are crazy.
00:06:18You had the blue, the red, the green, the purple.
00:06:21They were just, dude, they're pretty slick looking still.
00:06:25This episode is going to convince you to buy one, isn't it?
00:06:27Dude, we're headed that way.
00:06:30So like I said, where's my phone? I'm hopping on Amazon.
00:06:35You know what? You can get them cheap nowadays.
00:06:37So like I said, I had to go into the archives to show you what this looked like in the past
00:06:42because Razor Scooter is still out there making an attempt to make this thing as popular as it once was,
00:06:48adding engines and new sleek designs.
00:06:52And it just wasn't like that back then.
00:06:55Now, as you've heard on this show, we're both from Maine and Maine winters go on forever.
00:07:01So if you're getting this present at Christmastime, what's going to happen?
00:07:05You gotta keep it in the box or ride it around the house for about five more months.
00:07:10And how well does riding it around the house go?
00:07:13Not well, not well.
00:07:14You usually get a stern talking to in your household or my household.
00:07:19You get the broom taken to you.
00:07:21And that's that's the problem right there, too, because you're like you got this great new vehicle.
00:07:27But unlike a bicycle or a skateboard, you could actually get this in the house.
00:07:31And if you have enough space, you can ride it.
00:07:34Oh, yeah. You could cruise this thing around in the kitchen, the hallways.
00:07:38You could try to, you know, if you dared enough, try to take it down the stairs.
00:07:42But sooner or later, one of your parents are going to come upstairs
00:07:46and they are not going to be pleased because it's just noisy,
00:07:49especially when you're trying to do like like tricks and jumps and you're bumping into stuff.
00:07:53And and all they hear is the rattling of all any kind of knickknack or things on a shelf.
00:07:58Yeah, that are just waiting to break. And you're like, I don't care about that.
00:08:03I'm waiting till April here. Yeah, I got to be ready for that scooter life.
00:08:08So this is Christmas 2000 and you'll see my cousin
00:08:11and you'll see a young me down in his basement on Christmas Day and we all got scooters.
00:08:17Dude, I'm going to tell you, we used to rock the hell out of those bowl cuts.
00:08:22We did. The bowl cut is life, OK?
00:08:25And I want to know in this in this clip, who is putting this table together?
00:08:29What is this? Well, my cousins at the time,
00:08:33since this is where we're at, they got themselves a nice air hockey table.
00:08:36Oh, cool. So, you know, the parents responsibility at Christmas time,
00:08:40they can't have fun. They're assemblymen. Oh, they're they're setting up everything.
00:08:45But with your scooter, it's kind of already ready.
00:08:48Out the box. Exactly. So this is what we're talking about.
00:08:52It's scooter time right now. Yep.
00:08:57So you get yourself a nice clear runway, nice smooth basement.
00:09:01And you learn the machine. At this time,
00:09:04did y'all not know that you could raise up your handlebars?
00:09:07So it was like, you know, higher because right now, see this kid?
00:09:12No problem. He's short as hell. Yeah, I may have been borrowing theirs.
00:09:17I should have been borrowing its jacket. That is a sweet slider jacket.
00:09:21Look, is this Chrissy on the camera? Yeah, she's terrible.
00:09:24So that's what I think you mean, right? Is that a razor or non razor?
00:09:29Dude, I don't know. That one to me looked like one of the knockoffs,
00:09:32but it's so hard to tell because they're literally they're all built the exact same.
00:09:35They probably all come from the same manufacturer.
00:09:38It just has a different logo on it.
00:09:40So Razor Scooter did a pretty good job of at that time period being like,
00:09:45hey kid, you need this. Will this ad sell you today?
00:09:51Is your scooter tough enough for this sharper image?
00:09:54Wheelie Razor is the hottest thing on two wheels.
00:09:58Don't be left out. Don't throw your money away on cheap.
00:10:01No FOMO. Don't get the cheap ones. You're right.
00:10:04You better throw it away. A full working scooter.
00:10:08Yeah, and if they did, I'd be picking them all up
00:10:10and me and my friends would be riding in style.
00:10:13That trash can had like four of them in it.
00:10:16Well, dude, you know what? I think they had to go as far as to make the point.
00:10:19Like if you want to be one of the real cool kids, you have to have the razor.
00:10:22If you have a knockoff, your scooter can't handle this stuff.
00:10:26And I don't necessarily find that to be factual
00:10:29because they're all just built the exact same.
00:10:32I kind of remember when you brought these things outside.
00:10:35I remember the Razor handling better
00:10:38and I remember the wheels sticking a lot less
00:10:40and you had a smoother ride on the Razor
00:10:43than I ever did using my sister's scooter.
00:10:46If it was around, as you'll see in this,
00:10:48because she got the bootleg one,
00:10:50but you can hear my mom convincing her.
00:10:52Oh, I talked to the person who's selling this.
00:10:55This is the one you want right here.
00:10:57This is the winner, the sales pitch.
00:11:01Radical Razor.
00:11:04Oh, yay.
00:11:06Seventy bucks, you get a Radical Razor.
00:11:10Jeez, that means the Razors must have been selling for like $130, $140.
00:11:14Because I could get the other one, the Razor one.
00:11:17I like this one better.
00:11:18I like this one better.
00:11:20That's just a typical mom and bless her heart for doing that.
00:11:24Look at the wheelie bar on the back of it.
00:11:26That's dope.
00:11:33All right, so there we go.
00:11:34I got called out.
00:11:36You did.
00:11:37I was like, I'm too cool for those.
00:11:40Six days later, I got to buy myself a scooter,
00:11:44but I want the Razor.
00:11:45It's cooler.
00:11:46Right.
00:11:47Sorry, I was a little bit too hipster.
00:11:49So do you think you had the Radical Razor?
00:11:52Dude, no.
00:11:54I may have had one even lower budget than that.
00:11:56I could have sworn it began with an S.
00:12:01It might have just said scooter over the top of it.
00:12:05It might have been one of those ones from the 80s.
00:12:08It wasn't a Radical Razor or a Razor scooter.
00:12:12It might have just been plain old scooter.
00:12:15I don't know, bro.
00:12:16So I'm thinking my mom might have gotten advice from this kid
00:12:20because he also doesn't seem to be a fan of the Razor scooter.
00:12:24All right, so just a little disclaimer before I start this video.
00:12:26I'm not bashing Razor scooter.
00:12:29Yeah, you are.
00:12:30I'm just giving a few reasons why they suck.
00:12:35Just a few reasons why they suck.
00:12:39Yeah, because they might sponsor me when I get older.
00:12:42Hey, he's a diplomat, okay?
00:12:44This kid thinks he's like 9, 10 years old.
00:12:47You're not an influencer.
00:12:49And give your dad his GoPro back.
00:12:51Geez, kid.
00:12:53All kids these days are influencers.
00:12:54Don't you know that?
00:12:56Right, Jesus.
00:12:57So maybe Jeff got swindled
00:13:00and his parents couldn't figure out how to spot a fake Razor
00:13:03and I found a website that lets you know how to find one of them fake Razor scooters.
00:13:08Now, did you know that not only some companies are copying the design of the scooter,
00:13:12but they go to the extent of using the Razor logo.
00:13:17So, wait a minute.
00:13:17You're telling me they're not only knocking these things off,
00:13:20but they're trying to sell you one like someone would a fake Gucci purse.
00:13:26Like, no, this is the real deal.
00:13:27Not just like a knockoff brand.
00:13:29They're trying to like sell you a fake.
00:13:31Okay.
00:13:32Gosh, dude.
00:13:33It's brutal out here.
00:13:35And there are certain ways that you yourself,
00:13:38the consumer, can look out for a fake.
00:13:41Now, a real Razor scooter has a handlebar,
00:13:44which, when they're inserted into the head tube of the Razor,
00:13:47are smooth and rounded,
00:13:49where a fake will be kind of rough
00:13:53and not smooth when you put in there,
00:13:55which I remember actually from those bootleg ones.
00:13:59And then your brake pedal is forged
00:14:02and the underside is smoothed on the real one.
00:14:05And the fake one has die casting process,
00:14:09which leaves a circle around the underside of the brake pedal.
00:14:12Yikes.
00:14:13So, you're telling me that Razor scooter knockoffs were so wild
00:14:20that there had to be some sort of public service announcement made about it
00:14:25and some sort of like informative video to be sure that you don't buy the wrong.
00:14:30This is nuts.
00:14:32Well, when you're winning in the marketplace,
00:14:34you can't let these other companies come around and eat your lunch.
00:14:39You need to let them know that,
00:14:40hey, see those wheels?
00:14:42Our wheels are real and these are some cheap plastic wheels.
00:14:46It's garbage.
00:14:48You don't want your kids playing with that because if you're a kid,
00:14:50you're like,
00:14:52it looks like a Razor scooter for the most part.
00:14:55Right.
00:14:56Other than Razor, you're not going in there with technical expertise
00:14:58about why this thing isn't what it is.
00:15:00No.
00:15:01I just loved how your mom was like,
00:15:03no, trust me.
00:15:04I spoke to the woman at Sears
00:15:07and the Radical Racer,
00:15:11it's a tier above.
00:15:13Razor's ripping them off.
00:15:16Your mom sold Chrissy harder than she probably got sold at the store
00:15:20and God bless her for it.
00:15:21I love that clip, dude.
00:15:23And where else are you going to get this type of quality?
00:15:26How you gonna do wheelies without a wheelie bar?
00:15:29Sharper image is the only place you can get the authentic original wheelie Razor.
00:15:34Color-coordinated grips,
00:15:35matching non-skid surface,
00:15:38I remember the foamy grips with the heelie bar.
00:15:42These were like the next level Razor.
00:15:45Well, you need it if you're out there doing tricks.
00:15:46You don't want to damage your hand.
00:15:48And look at the value.
00:15:51Yeah, $19 value free.
00:15:53You get a carrying case.
00:15:56Why would you carry your scooter somewhere?
00:15:58Wouldn't you just scoot wherever you're going?
00:16:00Dude, the light-up wheels.
00:16:02Let's go.
00:16:07That's a drill.
00:16:09Now get the thrill.
00:16:11Can we redub this?
00:16:14Can you write down all the lines and let me redub it?
00:16:18Please?
00:16:19Done.
00:16:20That would be amazing.
00:16:22At this point, you know...
00:16:23So wait, hold on.
00:16:24Whoa, before you move on, what were they selling there?
00:16:27Were they selling a bag?
00:16:29Or what was that?
00:16:31So, in the world of scootering,
00:16:34you had to have accessories.
00:16:36So you have to have a carrying bag
00:16:38because like every item, your cameras,
00:16:40your DJ equipment,
00:16:43you got to sell them the carrying bag.
00:16:45Except my DJ gear isn't transportation.
00:16:51Scooter is transportation.
00:16:53Why would you need a case to transport it in?
00:16:55What is this?
00:16:57Well, maybe you're at work or something or at school
00:16:59and you need to put it in something to kind of hide it a little.
00:17:02All right, if you're a grown man at work,
00:17:04yes, you should be hiding your Razor scooter.
00:17:07Come on!
00:17:09And then on top of that, you get the lighted wheels.
00:17:13Those are dope.
00:17:14I love that.
00:17:15That's cool.
00:17:15And as we see later in the demonstration videos,
00:17:19they'll start selling you, you know,
00:17:22little ramps or little sidebars
00:17:25or something that you could practice your tricks on.
00:17:28Yeah.
00:17:28Now, did this sound like you?
00:17:30Check out my sweet Razor mini scooter.
00:17:32Isn't it sweet?
00:17:33Is it fast?
00:17:34Oh, dude, it's slow as hell.
00:17:36Is it fun to ride?
00:17:37No, dude, the handlebars go crooked every time I get on.
00:17:39Well, damn, that sounds amazing.
00:17:40I can't wait to get one myself.
00:17:41Yep.
00:17:43Dude, that was an accurate representation right there.
00:17:47It did seem like those things always went sideways
00:17:50or like you always had to like restraighten everything back up.
00:17:53Alignment was always getting jacked up.
00:17:55No matter what.
00:17:56And you had to stand in front of it
00:17:59and hold the wheel with your feet
00:18:01and twist the bars until it would line back up.
00:18:04But you would have to do that all the time.
00:18:06I found the bootleg ones also,
00:18:09like that frickin' scooter,
00:18:13the Radical Racer,
00:18:14that thing would always go out of alignment.
00:18:17Really?
00:18:18The Razor had less issues.
00:18:21It's the real deal.
00:18:22Now, this ad from the time period is an Australian ad
00:18:26and I don't know if they knew who they were marketing to
00:18:28because right now we're talking kids, right?
00:18:30Right, yeah.
00:18:31So why is this ad so filled with adults?
00:18:35I gotta see this.
00:18:36Wow, it's here, the fabulous mini scooter.
00:18:39It's fun, it's lightweight, super strong and easy to ride.
00:18:43Alright, there's one man, there's one girl.
00:18:45Okay, he just left a like telecommunications meeting
00:18:51and he's like, alright guys, peace out,
00:18:53I'm gonna scoot on out of here.
00:18:55Alright, well you saw kids using it,
00:18:57you saw businessmen,
00:19:00you saw just, I don't know, moms using it.
00:19:04So they're trying to go for the broad approach here.
00:19:07Here in the States, it was strictly like,
00:19:09you know, that kid to kinda tween age.
00:19:13We're gonna introduce you to the world of scooters
00:19:17because it didn't just become a thing
00:19:19that you and your pals did,
00:19:20this tried to become a thing.
00:19:23Now, can you describe the type of guy
00:19:25who you would think would narrate a scooter video?
00:19:29In one word, radical.
00:19:33Radical, alright, what does he look like?
00:19:36He definitely has, gosh, he has one of those like,
00:19:40like shell necklaces everybody used to wear.
00:19:45He probably has his shoes bar laced.
00:19:48He definitely has rings and bracelets of some,
00:19:51you know, form and some sort of like spiky hair.
00:19:56Alright, let's introduce you to the world of scooters
00:19:58with one of the hosts that I found on these scooter tapes.
00:20:01I've always been amazed at how quickly
00:20:03something so new can become so cheap.
00:20:06Hi, I'm Eric White.
00:20:07Dude, I told you.
00:20:08Scooters in all shapes and sizes
00:20:10have been around since the beginning of the 20th century.
00:20:12Skateboarding first came on the scene in the 70s.
00:20:14How about a little damn enthusiasm, bro?
00:20:16You're trying to sell me here, don't put me to sleep.
00:20:18Some people refer to them as Razors,
00:20:20one of the founding companies.
00:20:22They offer a quick and easy way
00:20:23to get around for work or fun.
00:20:26Their simple collapsible design allows you to store them
00:20:28almost anywhere.
00:20:33Geez, he, all right.
00:20:35We recently talked about Great Pitchman.
00:20:38He is not on that bracket at all.
00:20:42No, and you know what the funny thing about him
00:20:45is he seemed like he was like some director's brother
00:20:50that wasn't young enough to necessarily know
00:20:54what was going on,
00:20:55but they were going to try to dress him like he was.
00:20:58He fell right into that zone where you're too old
00:21:02to be in the youth market,
00:21:03but you're a little too young to be an adult authority.
00:21:07Yeah.
00:21:07So we're going to make it seem like you're like your hip
00:21:11and you're in the know
00:21:12and gosh, poor delivery for that guy.
00:21:15Two thumbs down.
00:21:17Poor Guy Fieri's brother.
00:21:19Guy settled with the career in making food
00:21:21and making billions.
00:21:23Yeah, he got all the talent.
00:21:24Listen, food is lame.
00:21:27Scooters.
00:21:28Now, that's where the money's at.
00:21:30Now, if you think that last guy had no enthusiasm
00:21:32for scooter,
00:21:33what about these people who just mock the Razor scooter?
00:21:36Oh, no, your scooter.
00:21:39Yeah, look at her.
00:21:41What do you think, huh?
00:21:43This thing has got wheelie bar.
00:21:45Do you think that guy can get the pitch job?
00:21:48No, what was he trying to accomplish by doing that?
00:21:51And what was he filming that on?
00:21:54He was filming that on his old Razor camera.
00:21:58He filmed that on a Razor.
00:22:01Oh, jeez.
00:22:05Yeah, well, I don't do it.
00:22:06He was just, I don't know.
00:22:07He was some punk just looking to trash talk it,
00:22:10but it just made himself look like an idiot.
00:22:12Now with Razor scooter,
00:22:13obviously, you have to assemble, disassemble,
00:22:17and this is how it was done.
00:22:25Click, click.
00:22:28And then bam, drop.
00:22:30Yep.
00:22:32And then up, click.
00:22:35I wish the music was more authentic to the time frame
00:22:37because that sounds like you're about to watch somebody's vlog.
00:22:41No, that's what I was thinking too.
00:22:43I was like, this is some sort of like,
00:22:45you know, cinematic vlogger, YouTube vlogger,
00:22:49you know, and no, it was just, it was kind of peaceful.
00:22:53I kind of wouldn't mind watching that again.
00:22:56Who's that guy that you like to follow, Casey Neistat back in the day?
00:22:59Yeah, he was great.
00:23:00Could you just imagine he just walks up,
00:23:02this is how you set up a Razor scooter.
00:23:04Oh, yeah, and he would be on the scooter,
00:23:06you know, vlogging down,
00:23:08freaking, you know, Times Square.
00:23:11And then they'd be like, all right, get out of here.
00:23:13Are you 30 or 50?
00:23:17Now the one thing the Razor scooter is not,
00:23:19despite probably Jeff having a story of using it as one,
00:23:22it is not a weapon,
00:23:24even if this ad sort of suggests that you can fight with it.
00:23:28This guy looks like the dude from Turtles 2.
00:23:31What was his name?
00:23:33Oh, shoot, what's his name?
00:23:36You face him in Tatsu?
00:23:39Yeah, I think so.
00:23:40Yeah, you face him in Hyper Stone Heist with Genesis.
00:23:43Yeah.
00:23:43Now, are you prepared for some karate fighting
00:23:47with your Razor scooter?
00:23:49Dude, if you got hit with one of those things,
00:23:51you were done.
00:23:53Oh, my God.
00:23:55Look out.
00:23:59Oh, my God.
00:24:04Oh, my goodness.
00:24:11What a cheap piece of junk.
00:24:13Should have got a Razor.
00:24:14All right, the Razor you can fight with,
00:24:16but the knockoffs, not at all.
00:24:20Choose your weapon.
00:24:21Was that a legit marketing campaign?
00:24:23That was a legit marketing campaign.
00:24:26Why was that guy dressed like Ken from Street Fighter?
00:24:29Yeah, dude.
00:24:31No, that should not be targeted to children
00:24:34because I think I've either been hit
00:24:36or hit somebody with a Razor scooter,
00:24:39and imagine how hard that hurts
00:24:41because you've hit yourself with one by accident
00:24:43just trying to do tricks,
00:24:45and that stings like a son of a gun.
00:24:47That was brutality.
00:24:49And, you know, out of all the things you can hit people with,
00:24:51like, all right, a skateboard is probably something
00:24:53you can belt somebody with,
00:24:55a bike, not so much
00:24:56because you're not getting a good swing on that thing,
00:24:58but a folded-up scooter,
00:25:00you could do some damage.
00:25:01That's like three pipes, basically.
00:25:03Oh, dude, you'd be done.
00:25:05You'd be KO'd.
00:25:07If only we knew somebody who was crazy enough
00:25:09that probably would have hit somebody with a scooter.
00:25:12Yeah, if only.
00:25:13I'm surprised it never showed up in our Backyard Fed.
00:25:16Yeah.
00:25:17Could you imagine being beaten with that thing?
00:25:20Oh, this is just a spot we're going to do right now.
00:25:23I'd say at least have the, you know,
00:25:26decency in you to beat me with a Razor scooter,
00:25:29not with a knockoff
00:25:30and demean me in front of the whole Backyard Fed.
00:25:33So I learned a little bit about scooter
00:25:35as I was going through these videos,
00:25:37and did you know that the scooter originated from Asia?
00:25:42Ah, you know, I'm actually not surprised by that.
00:25:43That makes a lot of sense to me.
00:25:46The scooter hit it big in Asia
00:25:47where they made their mark on the modern form of transportation.
00:25:50With all the hype on action sports—
00:25:52Why is he dressed like he's repping the Crips?
00:25:55To the booming surf and inline industry,
00:25:57it was only natural that scooters would make their way
00:25:59into American culture.
00:26:01Scooters were so big, as we find out,
00:26:04that kids didn't want to play baseball anymore.
00:26:07They just wanted to scooter.
00:26:09Right.
00:26:10Baseball's supposed to be America's pastime,
00:26:13yet the number of kids getting involved in the sports—
00:26:15Not anymore.
00:26:17Because we're scooting.
00:26:18Look at the air quotes.
00:26:21Baseball? That's for nerds.
00:26:24Yeah, pretty much.
00:26:25The thing about scooters, too, was,
00:26:28I mean, somebody's got to talk about it in the adult world.
00:26:31They got to let the adults know how cool we think this thing is.
00:26:35Right?
00:26:36Tonight, on the 5 o'clock news,
00:26:38Monday.
00:26:39We're talking Razor scooters.
00:26:41There we go.
00:26:42Monday at 5.
00:26:46Newsman got jokes.
00:26:48No, he doesn't.
00:26:54Could it be the answer to your daily commute?
00:26:57I mean, you know, it could.
00:26:58I mean, I don't know how it is up there anymore,
00:27:00but here in the South, there are bike lanes everywhere.
00:27:03Everywhere.
00:27:04So they have their own, like, specific lane
00:27:06rather than riding with traffic.
00:27:08So I think, in some sense, you could put the scooter in that realm.
00:27:11So if you have a quick trip to work,
00:27:14sure, you know, that could kind of help out,
00:27:16help you save gas and, you know, all that jazz.
00:27:19But, man, I don't know.
00:27:21I don't know, as an adult, if I want to roll up to work on my Razor scooter,
00:27:25even if it is a blue one.
00:27:27You said you got yours at Christmastime,
00:27:29and I think that was a very common thing.
00:27:31I'd find articles online where people would start their 90s nostalgia
00:27:36and they'd be like,
00:27:37the one thing I wanted for Christmas was a scooter.
00:27:42Like, I found this one girl wanted a pink scooter.
00:27:44All right.
00:27:45And, you know, and then they started trying to make it like,
00:27:48what's the modern-day equivalent?
00:27:49And then at that point, I checked out.
00:27:51Yeah.
00:27:52And then I got to the point where I was like,
00:27:55well, how many of these friggin things got sold, right?
00:27:59Can you take a guess how many were sold in the year 2000?
00:28:02In the year 2000 alone,
00:28:04knowing that the big boom was definitely around Christmastime,
00:28:07even though us in the Northeast weren't able to enjoy them for another five months.
00:28:11In the first six months, how many?
00:28:13Let's see, man.
00:28:15I gotta say like 200 million.
00:28:19Well, five million.
00:28:21Okay, five million.
00:28:22I was way off.
00:28:24It was named Toy of the Year,
00:28:26and then the first electronic one came out in 2003.
00:28:32Now, to me, I don't know if those ones were as cool as the traditional kick push.
00:28:40It kind of takes away the fun out of it and takes any fitness aspect out of it too, right?
00:28:45It kind of does, doesn't it?
00:28:46Because you see the kids in these trick videos,
00:28:49you don't have any electronic motor.
00:28:51You got to do it all yourself, get your own momentum.
00:28:53Right.
00:28:54And that's why you go to like these skate parks with the ramps
00:28:57or you just go to a hill or somewhere where you could get natural momentum.
00:29:01Or your local Hannaford.
00:29:03I used to see kids in there all the time just cruising around.
00:29:07Yeah, it kind of loses something like,
00:29:09all right, the scooter's already fringe on how cool you can make it after its initial cool period.
00:29:14Yeah, like you can put a wheelie bar on it.
00:29:16You can put lights in the wheels.
00:29:18Like you can only do so much.
00:29:20And then if you can do a trick on it, then all right, that's kind of cool.
00:29:23I see the point of this thing.
00:29:25That's the thing you're good at.
00:29:27But if you're just riding around on an electronic motor, that's not cool at all.
00:29:32You might as well have a moped.
00:29:35Or what is it called? A Vespa?
00:29:39Yes. My pal Aaron owns a Vespa.
00:29:42He's 6 foot 11. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in my life.
00:29:47And he rides it around. Did he join a team like this?
00:29:50In the last decade, action sports have grown beyond anyone's expectations.
00:29:55Razor scooter, like, motorcycle clubs.
00:29:58They got their cuts on. Sam Crow.
00:30:03Yeah, I'm like the, you know, Jax Teller of the Razor crew, man.
00:30:07They're all the same guy because that's a completely other host.
00:30:11Yeah. You couldn't tell. No.
00:30:14And they all have that same low energy.
00:30:17Yeah, what is with that? Is that just like a 2000s thing or what?
00:30:20Because I remember everybody just being super excited
00:30:23and a bunch of graphics and wide angles and fish lenses.
00:30:28I think it's one of two things.
00:30:29You're either at an 11 because you just have all the energy or you're too cool to have any energy.
00:30:36Right. This is an example of the competitions that happened at that time period.
00:30:40Let's see it. I'm in.
00:30:43Look at this kid. Oh, my goodness.
00:30:49At least they got helmets on because they are.
00:30:51Are these like dirt tracks? And the music is so appropriate.
00:30:55It's ridiculous. Oh, we're going to get to an example of some of the soundtracks that I heard on this.
00:31:02Oh, my God. I want to say every single type of music was like a low quality version of some famous band.
00:31:11Right. To me, that sounded like some sort of low rent, good Charlotte or something like that.
00:31:16I learned about the life of some of these scooter kids and what they would do on their team journeys.
00:31:24They do trips to New York City. Just scooting around town.
00:31:32Oh, my God. They're going to get jumped in a heartbeat. Does this feel unsafe to you?
00:31:39Yes, it does. And you know how kids love the naked cowboy.
00:31:42Yeah, right. This guy shot more footage of him than the kids.
00:31:48These kids are trying to take my shine. Did you see that one little girl tip him?
00:31:54Yeah. What was that about? Hey, girl, go, you know, toss his dollar in his boot.
00:32:01She's 12. This isn't going to look right in about 20 years.
00:32:05Is this on the screen right here? Is this some sort of game?
00:32:08Did you like VR riding a Razor scooter?
00:32:14Well, you couldn't VR it. You didn't have the virtual reality.
00:32:17You just had to do it like Tony Hawk because this scooter trend, it's going to be the next Tony Hawk.
00:32:23It's going to be just as cool skateboarding. So they needed a video game, right?
00:32:28Absolutely. So why not have a little bit of a Razor scooter video game?
00:32:35And when you beat the game, I thought this strange cutscene.
00:32:41I don't know. I couldn't quite understand what was going on here.
00:32:45Tell me if you understand the story. But there's a bunny I can see now.
00:32:50So a gator is chasing a bunny and what appears to be a bear.
00:32:55I thought it was a beaver. That might be a beaver. It is a beaver.
00:32:58I don't know. The costume sucks. What does it have to do with scooters?
00:33:02You beat the Razor scooter game. This is in the end credits.
00:33:07Duh. You don't remember this being part of scooter life?
00:33:12No, this just sounds this looks like something we would have filmed though.
00:33:18Yes, it does. So maybe you just need more of a context clue.
00:33:26Now there's a gorilla and like a drug deal. He's like, hey, you want to get away?
00:33:30Scooter good stuff. Come on over here.
00:33:33And they're like, oh, he looks trustworthy. Look at those eyes.
00:33:36Yeah, this ain't no radical racer. This is the real deal.
00:33:41He just has to what he's expecting these guys to show up all day.
00:33:45Oh my goodness. This is ridiculous. Look at all the money.
00:33:49How much did they pay him with a bag full of money?
00:33:53Wait, do you think maybe the gator was the good guy and they just robbed a bank?
00:33:58I don't know, but I want to know why they're not riding them right now.
00:34:01Why are they just holding their transportation?
00:34:04Okay, here we go. This is so they can get away from the evil gator faster.
00:34:10Look at that. He knew exactly what he was doing.
00:34:15Yeah, he's gone. And you gotta love the long late kicks.
00:34:20Yeah, that's what everybody did when they thought they'd be really cool.
00:34:23Right? Like I don't want balance.
00:34:26I'm going to pick up some real speed. See ya.
00:34:29What? Hey, it's the Cowboys defense from last year.
00:34:35He's getting cut. Yeah, he's gone. Except he's pretty determined.
00:34:39He's still after him. He doesn't give up on the play.
00:34:43I'll say that. Except his smokers lung.
00:34:46Yeah. Oh, wait, wait.
00:34:51How do you come up with a third one?
00:34:56Excuse me. Yeah, this guy does not look trustworthy.
00:35:02Give me a bag of money. Get a scooter.
00:35:06So this is when you defeated the game. Yep.
00:35:09Oh, wait a minute. He had a fourth one. How does he keep showing up with new ones?
00:35:14Oh, they don't like this. They feel like they've been swindled.
00:35:18Uh-oh. Get him. Come here, you dirty ape.
00:35:24He's going bananas, going bananas.
00:35:27I'm out of here. He's going to get hit by a truck, isn't he?
00:35:30I wish, but no. That is definitely something we would have filmed.
00:35:35Absolutely. So do you understand anything that that video is about?
00:35:38Why a gorilla was selling bootleg scooters on the side of the road?
00:35:43Why a gator was chasing a rabbit and a beaver?
00:35:47You know, I really don't. I don't understand what that has to has to do with the game at all.
00:35:52And I'm quite frankly, I'm glad that I never purchased the game
00:35:55and defeated it because I would have been a little disappointed in that.
00:36:00Yeah, you know, it doesn't seem like the most satisfying reward.
00:36:05No. Now when you were trying to get a scooter,
00:36:07what were some of the selling points that you'd tell your parents?
00:36:10It was, you know, I don't even know if I was even a great salesman back then.
00:36:14It was just, mom, but it's so cool. That was like it.
00:36:18Honestly, it's so cool. And I'll be able to ride around the neighborhood
00:36:24and I can go to school and back and I can be real fast.
00:36:28And that's probably the, you know, the best pitch that I had back then.
00:36:33So it's basically like, you know, I can get to where I need to go a little bit faster.
00:36:37I can travel, right? Yeah. You didn't bring school into the equation, right?
00:36:42You didn't say it would help you with your schoolwork or spend more time at school.
00:36:46I don't know how it would because if you have your scooter,
00:36:49you're going to want to leave school and go ride around on your Razor scooter.
00:36:52What if it allowed you to travel home faster
00:36:55so you can stay after school longer being so you can stay there longer,
00:36:59get back quicker before the sun comes down. Yeah, I don't think so.
00:37:06Kidney's a bag. Yeah.
00:37:10Come on, dude. You know, your combination has been the same thing all year.
00:37:15There you go. All right. Everything he's done so far in this commercial is a struggle.
00:37:20Yep. And he's gone until a senior takes a football out and just darts him right in the head.
00:37:28Kid's not even wearing a helmet. No, but I will say he looks pretty damn cool on that thing.
00:37:34And the problem is without a helmet, we've all had this story.
00:37:37So I take off who knows how fast I'm going five,
00:37:40maybe even six miles an hour pushing it to the limit.
00:37:43I go to make the jump and my front wheel nicks the top of the barrier
00:37:47and I saw a goddamn superhero.
00:37:49I land in the middle of the street damn near clavicle in half.
00:37:52Some lady driving a f***ing old wheel has to slam on her brakes.
00:37:55God damn you kids and your midget scooters. Damn you kids and your midget scooters.
00:38:00That's funny. So did I ever tell you the time in college
00:38:02where I went out in the middle of the night to drop off a paper
00:38:06and the only means of transportation I had was a scooter?
00:38:09No, that's not a true story. All right.
00:38:12So I was taking this class and at the end of the year,
00:38:16there was an assignment to have a whole journals worth of entries, right?
00:38:21Right. And yet he was all sort of the classes buzzwords their theme topics.
00:38:27At this point, I can't remember what the class was,
00:38:29but I just knew that like it was one of those assignments that was so busy work
00:38:33that if you did it all at once,
00:38:35you just had to remember to just fake stories and fake emotions
00:38:40and correspondence and like, you know, just correlating ideas basically.
00:38:45Right, right. So you had to be like, oh, I really felt like this
00:38:48or it was parallel to this thing that happened
00:38:51in whatever the hell we're learning about, right?
00:38:54So it's due at a certain time. You have to clam to get it finished
00:38:57and then you're flying to school. It is due at midnight that night.
00:39:03Oh God, the colleges for each of the divisions have like these little side houses.
00:39:09Yeah, they're like houses modified to be office buildings, right?
00:39:13Okay. So basically the teacher's like,
00:39:17all right, it has to be in the mail slot by midnight.
00:39:21So I am flying through getting all these journal entries done.
00:39:25I am working through a Monday Night Raw.
00:39:27Okay, once you get on the scooter, are you long stepping?
00:39:31Well, here's what's happening here.
00:39:35I get everything done. I would say it's about 10, 10.
00:39:38It's like halfway through Monday Night Raw.
00:39:40Yeah, and I am like, all right, I got to get this thing in now.
00:39:44I know the trip probably takes about an hour or so walking.
00:39:50Oh gosh. So you're like, oh, I'll cut that time in half on my Razor scooter.
00:39:55Right? Well, because I'm thinking first, I'm like, all right,
00:39:57I only have my driver's permit. So I'm not, I'm not doing that.
00:40:03I don't have my glasses. I think there's something messed up in the time period
00:40:09and it is downpouring in the rain. Oh no.
00:40:12So I'm like, all right, this is gonna be terrible,
00:40:14but I'm gonna have to walk. Wait a minute. I have the scooter.
00:40:18Well, first I think the bike, but I'm looking at the bike and I'm like,
00:40:20this thing hasn't been used in years. I think that tire is deflated.
00:40:23We don't have a pump around.
00:40:25And then I think this is going to be a long ass freaking journey.
00:40:28Where's my, where's my iPod or mp3 player at the time? The Creative Zune.
00:40:33Yeah. Creative Labs there making the heck of the iPod before the iPod.
00:40:39Those were juggernauts. I loved them. But I think that thing was on the fritz.
00:40:44So I'm like, all right. Oh no, I need something to kill the time period.
00:40:48So I grabbed the old cassette player. Oh gosh.
00:40:51So I'm listening to the friggin radio halfway come in.
00:40:55Nice. On this thing, on batteries that I'm pretty sure had been in there for like two years.
00:40:59So they're, who knows when they're going to give out. I take the scooter out.
00:41:04I am flying. But wait a minute. But wait a minute.
00:41:08When you, when you busted out the scooter, was it cool?
00:41:10Like it shows in these commercials where you just. No, I'm soaking.
00:41:14I'm soaking wet in an old backpack panicking to get there on time.
00:41:20Doing that like rain sweat. So you're wet from the rain,
00:41:24but you're also wet because you're sweating and doing extreme cardio.
00:41:29I get there at probably 11 20 or so. Drop it in the mail slot.
00:41:34Start heading on the way back. Now, if you know anything about Portland,
00:41:38you know how like the road changes what type of texture it is.
00:41:42So sometimes it's nice smooth concrete. Sometimes it's grass for a little bit.
00:41:47Sometimes it's brick. Yeah. Well, this is,
00:41:50this is that strip right across from the 7-Eleven.
00:41:53You can be cruising smooth and then all of a sudden. Oh, yeah.
00:41:57So it goes from cement to gravel to pavement to brick.
00:42:03So this thing on the way back catches the wheel.
00:42:06Sends me flying head over scooter right in the middle of the road.
00:42:14I busted up all over my arm. I'm bleeding everywhere. Road rash, dude.
00:42:20And luckily it's like 11 29.
00:42:22So I think one car was arriving at that point.
00:42:25So no one's seeing me completely wipe out,
00:42:28but the wheels completely knocked pretty much knocked out in the wrong direction.
00:42:33I'm bleeding. I'm trying to get back. I'm soaking wet.
00:42:37Yeah, though to this day. There's just still there's still that one person that saw you.
00:42:41That still tells the story. Hey, remember that time that kid was cruising on the scooter
00:42:46and he totally ate it. It was probably the 7-Eleven guy.
00:42:50Probably why we were big. He was a big fan of us. He remembered me.
00:42:53He saw the window while he was working. Yeah, he said you wiped out,
00:42:57bub. Bub, that's some gnarly road rash there, bub. That'll be $5.59.
00:43:03I wasn't anything like this kid. This kid.
00:43:05I think I probably should have taken his example
00:43:07and walked alongside my scooter after leaving the school this case.
00:43:10Well, you were in college to make her apologies
00:43:13and attend courses on peer pressure and victim awareness.
00:43:17See, I was damn peer pressure evaluation done so far.
00:43:21The one thing. Yeah, those roads don't look safe yet is whether youth panels are any better.
00:43:25Okay, I'm walking with the scooter. Yeah.
00:43:29So if I was a little younger,
00:43:30instead of having to drop off an assignment that I probably should have done on time
00:43:34and handed in when I had the class that day,
00:43:38I could have just gone to, where else? McDonald's.
00:43:42Absolutely, I would have.
00:43:47Yeah, Mickey D's. Yeah.
00:43:52Put those damn scooters away, kids.
00:43:56Those are some greasy kids.
00:43:59Those are freaking urchins.
00:44:01Whose parents are just letting these kids just,
00:44:03all right, yeah, yeah, all right, Timmy, you and your crew can just,
00:44:07you know, leave our terrace and drive into town to go to McDonald's.
00:44:12Yeah, you're fine. You may not have been the scooter kid.
00:44:16What was a scooter kid to you? What does a scooter kid look like, sound like?
00:44:20Oh, he was, it was either one of two kids.
00:44:23It was either like a super nerdy kid
00:44:26or it was, it was that one kid that had like unexplained ADHD
00:44:31and would try anything to impress everybody.
00:44:35Maybe one of these kids?
00:44:39Oh, yeah, he's riding two scooters at once.
00:44:42Definitely that kid.
00:44:44You like his magnum stare as he's drinking his juice?
00:44:47Right? I'm too cool for you to film me, Mom.
00:44:51Yeah.
00:44:53Would you say that they would try a dangerous stunt like this?
00:44:58Oh my goodness.
00:45:01You're gonna break your neck, kid.
00:45:03That's like a waterfall.
00:45:04Oh my, dude, that was a recipe for a busted knee.
00:45:08And then he just walks away from it.
00:45:09Yeah, I'm cool. Yeah, that just happened.
00:45:13Get out of here. Complete disregard for his scooter.
00:45:16The disrespect for the scooter, bro.
00:45:18I would bet this kid would even be named something like,
00:45:21I don't know, give me a name.
00:45:23Simon. A Simon?
00:45:25Yeah. Or maybe a Devin. Could be.
00:45:28So this is Devin and he is a skate.
00:45:33Of course it is. He's a scooter pro.
00:45:36Well, dude, clearly he's going backwards.
00:45:38He's doing the, he's doing the spins with it.
00:45:42Grinding. Not wearing a helmet, losing his hat.
00:45:46Right, with the big twist.
00:45:49Now, is he cool in the skate park or is he just taking up valuable real estate?
00:45:54It would depend on the time frame because if this was at the peak of the scooter,
00:45:57he was definitely, you know, welcomed in.
00:46:00But if it was even a day after said allowed time,
00:46:04he was being like, at least at the, you know, minimum ridiculed behind his back.
00:46:11Do you think he maybe snuck in some booze to try to make friends with the older kids?
00:46:16Because he's cool, but he's not that cool.
00:46:20No. Cool enough to not wear his helmet.
00:46:23Right? I love the big like fisheye lens just to make it so much more dramatic.
00:46:28Like if we, if we film this without the fisheye,
00:46:31it would just look terrible and not like radical at all.
00:46:36And you got to have the long hair too. That,
00:46:38that adds to the effect when you're doing all these spins.
00:46:40Oh, absolutely. And that kid is one of the new school razor scooter kids.
00:46:46Okay, so he's got the fisheye equipment at his disposal.
00:46:50Now back in the day, it wasn't easy.
00:46:53So this guy is no Josh toy,
00:46:57the star of some of these videos.
00:47:02Now, if you're looking to get really good,
00:47:04that is a grown ass man's come to mind. First of which he's not Josh toy.
00:47:10Josh has been riding.
00:47:11It is this guy looks like he was got to be.
00:47:13Yeah, he looks like he was really good at this when he was a kid.
00:47:16And it was a part of his life that he holds the most dearest.
00:47:19And he's just never let it go. And his friends are all like,
00:47:23dude, we out, we outgrew that 15 years ago.
00:47:27And I think that's the thing that happened in the razor community
00:47:30because this Josh toy I looked up as well.
00:47:34And he is a modern-day ambassador.
00:47:37So I guess once you're a scooter guy,
00:47:40you're a scooter guy for life. It's like the NWO for life.
00:47:44All right. Now Josh toy looks like somebody that definitely we hung out with back then.
00:47:49He has the perfect name to be a razor scooter ambassador.
00:47:52I'll say that look at this kid. This kid is 2002 2003.
00:47:58Hey guys, my name is Josh toy. I'm here to give you a tour of my house.
00:48:02I love eating pizza. I have to show you this. You mean your parents house?
00:48:07Red Baron dude respect respect.
00:48:12That's what I eat. There's nothing fancy about this kid.
00:48:16I kind of like him just because I'm like, oh that would have been us.
00:48:19If somebody's like, hey, you want to come over and yeah,
00:48:22you want to let us over and interview you for a little bit.
00:48:25Okay, cool. Sure. I'll do a fake MTV house tour.
00:48:28Yeah, it's like it's like cribs if they didn't have anything
00:48:32but this this luxurious life has been afforded to him by the razor scooter.
00:48:37I don't know. I think it's also because of his hustle.
00:48:40Look at how he's social media back when it was much harder.
00:48:43I have a lot of DVDs and videos.
00:48:47Yeah, my favorite movies. So he's archiving comes to buy videos.
00:48:50Probably SNM bike video for SNM bike videos.
00:48:54What I do website designs. I do website designs video editing on that.
00:49:00So the scooter look at this thing and keep communication through there on the tricks.
00:49:05And communication. I like his hustle.
00:49:08Yeah, he's yeah. I mean on the internet.
00:49:10That's where I learned my new tricks and I connect with my fellow scooter ride mates people
00:49:15who scoot for a living seem like they stick around forever
00:49:20and you've successfully nailed it. This guy is definitely a hey fellow kids kind of guy.
00:49:25Yeah crowd around point X looks pretty sick.
00:49:29I don't know if I let you in the foam pits with a scream machine like Jared,
00:49:32but I'm definitely checking it out this summer.
00:49:35He's like you man. He knows the terms. Yeah, he has all the drip
00:49:41and you got to know that scootering is something that gets passed down generation from generation.
00:49:48You know that old man you call grandpa. He also used to do this.
00:49:55Why is he mean mugging this old man?
00:50:01I was once like you that's like back to the future dude and what
00:50:07and what do you think the young kid and the old man learned?
00:50:12That they're not that much different.
00:50:15So they have to find a newcomer enemy because they both know what it's like to scooter.
00:50:19They know what it's like to ride dude.
00:50:22Not like dad because dad only knows what it's like to maintain a porn star mustache.
00:50:28Thanks for picking them up. Yeah, dude. You're not kidding.
00:50:32How was school Nick? How do you like the scooter?
00:50:38In the kitchen like that. They're like we get it,
00:50:42but he doesn't get it. All right. Now once that kid came home from school.
00:50:46What else do you think he did? What do you think?
00:50:49I don't know the people who use a razor scooter for tricks also like to do in their spare time play video games.
00:50:55Absolutely. That is a dangerous stereotype and next is the PlayStation 2 dude.
00:51:02I told you always on the PlayStation 2. Are you okay?
00:51:06Are you always on your scooter? Because I thought scooter was life bro.
00:51:09Not not Vice City Vice City's life too.
00:51:13Okay, dude. It is what a great game that was not that that video is now dated.
00:51:19Right? Yeah,
00:51:20if it was a lifestyle you wouldn't have to feel like you've been kidnapped to go compete with your friends.
00:51:26This this is a kidnapping right right here when razor called me up and asked me if I wanted to go on a road trip.
00:51:32I said sure it sounds like fun. Yeah, absolutely.
00:51:34I'm in where I was going or what they had in store for me. Wait,
00:51:37what they get that side.
00:51:42Hey, that's kidnapping do your tricks. Oh my God, dude.
00:51:46Yeah, that's that's that's that's against the law right there.
00:51:48Don't worry. It's a happy ending.
00:51:50Did you know that there were actual camps for kids to get better at the craft razor scooter camps?
00:51:56So wait, what if you brought the radical racer to the razor scooter camp?
00:52:01Would you get picked on and beat up? Yes, you'd be beaten with it right away.
00:52:06Yeah, we're at Point X. All right. We can hardly wait to get out of the van.
00:52:11Yeah, because we're going to get so gnarly my scooters and he has multiple scooters.
00:52:17A few of our guys were already sessioning. They're already sessioning.
00:52:21Do you mean they were just riding on their scooters?
00:52:23He's busting double toes over the four. I do the double toad over the Forester, bro.
00:52:28Whoa. Oh, the best thing about that clip as it gets extended is he keeps like talking about other riders as if like,
00:52:37these are all your friends that you know about. Yeah.
00:52:39So he's like Brianna is working on the blah blah blah trick.
00:52:44Timmy and Steve were over there and they're really worked up about being able to clear this kind of jump.
00:52:50And it's like, who are these people? It's like reading some kid's diary.
00:52:56I don't even know. No, it is. And he probably doesn't even know who they are or what their names are.
00:53:01He's just making this all up. So it's a racket, too, because as you can see,
00:53:06Seacrest here is going to sell you some gear because you can't just use what's around.
00:53:12No, you got to have the best of the best. Do you want any of this stuff?
00:53:16Not only does Razor make scooters, but check out this new line of backpacks they have.
00:53:20This thing, of course, your skateboard and all your gear.
00:53:23Check it out guys. We got the punk ramp.
00:53:26Somebody can hold my skateboard, but I ride scooters.
00:53:30Anywhere. A single piece of high impact molded plastic with included screws.
00:53:36Dude, I need to have that so I can do so I can rip 450s in the driveway.
00:53:42Oh, you can do 450s. I was going to ask, do you know how to do any tricks?
00:53:46I think I could do the jump and spin the bars.
00:53:49I'm pretty sure I could do the, you know, the the kick where you spin it all,
00:53:55spin it, spin it all the way around and land on it.
00:53:59But other than that, I was a pretty even keel scooterer per se.
00:54:04So then we probably should get you a teacher. Yeah.
00:54:07One that wears khakis. Not this guy again.
00:54:11Why? They're doing cool tricks out there.
00:54:13Dude, look at those mud chops.
00:54:18Oh, yeah. They're just ditching snowboarding and skateboarding
00:54:21because they want to jump on the Razor crates.
00:54:26So wait, are you riding both?
00:54:29Dude, he's radical. He is beyond radical.
00:54:32He could be allowed in the parks, which as I learned here,
00:54:36you remember the trampoline parks, how they have those foam blocks, right?
00:54:40Well, that's what they use for you to practice your scooter tricks.
00:54:44Oh, my goodness.
00:54:54Dude, I'm not going to lie, that looks hella fun.
00:54:56It does. But could you imagine the pain of trying to dig your scooter out of that?
00:55:01Yeah. As you're like half sinking into it and trying to dig yourself out of it
00:55:04because you're sweaty and those things just like stick right to you.
00:55:08It's brutal. Oh, God. Yeah.
00:55:09And they all carry a certain smell that's never been removed from the thing, too.
00:55:14Yeah. Everybody's sweat at once kind of smell.
00:55:17For the last two years, three years, how long the park's been open?
00:55:20Yeah. Now, when you said that looks sweet, I thought this looks sweet.
00:55:24I want to do this.
00:55:29Is he going to jump into the water? Oh, God.
00:55:32Oh, dude, let's go.
00:55:35And his scooter never works properly again.
00:55:37No, or it or it went up somewhere. The sun doesn't shine.
00:55:41Oh, my goodness. But dude, I would totally do that.
00:55:44You got it. You got to do those.
00:55:45You got to pull out those kind of tricks to impress the babes.
00:55:48I saw that one girl and she looks like she could have been impressed.
00:55:50Either that or she's like, oh, God, these stupid kids are flying out on their scooters again.
00:55:55Just trying to get some damn sun. That friggin bar is going to smash right through his teeth.
00:56:00And I'm going to be here and I'm going to be the only one on duty.
00:56:02And I'm going to feel such responsibility.
00:56:04Yeah. Now, I didn't realize scooters could also get crazy distance on your jumps.
00:56:10Well, I think if you get fast enough, right?
00:56:13Yeah, but did you really think it could clear this kind of distance?
00:56:22Dude, what? And you have to keep upping the ante, right?
00:56:25So why not jump your friends?
00:56:27You can't be outdone by your pals.
00:56:29No, but you can use your pals as, I don't know, a prop.
00:56:34Yeah. Oh, God. Fingers crossed that I don't break anybody's bones here.
00:56:41Oh, landed it. So the best part is when I found that clip.
00:56:46Who's Brandon Smith? He's going to teach you scooter tricks.
00:56:50But with that last clip, when he jumps those kids, the outtakes have like this one little boy going,
00:56:56Uh, I hope he doesn't land on me.
00:56:59I don't know if I want to be part of this.
00:57:01Well, that kid is smart.
00:57:03We got a teacher so that you can get better at scooter tricks.
00:57:07Heck yeah. Hey, I'm Brendan Smith,
00:57:09and I'm going to show you how to do a couple tricks on the Razor scooter.
00:57:11All right. Now, safety is the most important thing.
00:57:14So always wear your helmet and don't try to make sure it's right.
00:57:18Yeah, and make sure it's a Razor helmet.
00:57:21So we got to start with our most basic trick.
00:57:24Yeah. Which I probably couldn't even do either.
00:57:28The first trick is a wheelie. Now to do a wheelie,
00:57:30you want to make sure your back foot is close to the brake.
00:57:33And then when you're ready to do it, lift up with your arms so that your nose is in the air.
00:57:37What's that? He seems out of breath.
00:57:40Well, dude, he's scooting around. But once you get it down, you'll be doing it just like this.
00:57:44Or like he's going to cry. Yeah.
00:57:47It's like, hey, weren't you really good on those, you know,
00:57:50Razor scooters like seven years ago? Yes.
00:57:55Do you want to be in a video campaign about them?
00:57:58I'm a little old for those now, don't you think? Nah, we'll young you up.
00:58:02Yeah. Well, how are you going to do that?
00:58:05Well, first of all, it's not Brandon anymore. It's Brendan.
00:58:08Brendan, right? Because it's cooler. Y's make you like five years younger.
00:58:13Yeah. And you can do toss a Z in there.
00:58:16Forget about it. And then you can do cool things like sit on your handlebar.
00:58:23Get out of here. Yeah. Oh, my goodness.
00:58:29And then he falls on the train tracks and dies. This is radical, dude.
00:58:32This is radical. Brendan, what's our next trick?
00:58:35We've mastered the first part. Now grinding.
00:58:38So when I jump up on a curb and slide on the bottom side of the deck.
00:58:41Now when I do this, I want to make sure the whole front end of the deck is on my curb.
00:58:46With my front wheel rolling parallel to the edge of the curb.
00:58:49Dude, chicks dig that. Well, this is what happens when you fail doing these tricks.
00:58:54Johnny Rocket over here. I'm done with the scooter. It's over.
00:58:59It was at that moment he decided, you know what? This whole scooting thing isn't for me.
00:59:03I'm going to go inside and play Vice City. The next trick is called a tailwhip.
00:59:07A tailwhip is where you jump in the air and spin the deck of the scooter.
00:59:09Which is what everybody tried. Oh, yeah.
00:59:13And you would bust your shins up so bad, dude.
00:59:17Yes, because this is the type of thing. If you have a bad scooter,
00:59:20you don't know how fast the weight is spinning back around because they all had different weight to it.
00:59:24Yeah. So I remember the bootleg scooter had a little extra weight.
00:59:31So the timing would be off. So you can nail this trick with a razor.
00:59:35But if you did it with the other one, you'd totally hit your ankle.
00:59:39Brutal. Like, look at this kid.
00:59:43All right, that just had like three revolutions around.
00:59:47I'm not going to lie. That's like impressive. But again, these are like adults doing these tricks.
00:59:54Yeah, because ours would look more like this, right? Right.
01:00:00Oh, God, no. Oh, my ankle, my shin.
01:00:06Oh, it's the worst. That's the actual representation of, dude, that happened so many times.
01:00:13And it killed kind of your momentum to want to continue learning, didn't it?
01:00:16Oh, yeah. You needed an ice pack right away.
01:00:20And this kid actually kind of explains why that happened.
01:00:23I know you're learning from a little kid. It makes you feel a little self-conscious.
01:00:27It does. It does.
01:00:30Is this a kid that was bashing them earlier?
01:00:32Yeah, this backflip, I feel like I have no control over the scooter.
01:00:36And also I hit my knee on this.
01:00:40Oh, I bet. Yeah, it sucks, doesn't it, kid?
01:00:43It's like this is what makes it extremely hard to do tricks on and stuff like that.
01:00:50Yeah, now let's see you actually pull it off. All right.
01:00:54It probably looks something like this.
01:00:58Oh, that stupid trick. Oh, my gosh.
01:01:02I hate it so much.
01:01:04Dude, I got to be real. These kids are making me kind of feel bad about my own razor scooter skills.
01:01:09Can we see them just eat it for a little while or what?
01:01:12All right. Your wish is my command.
01:01:15Please. We all fall down.
01:01:22Well, he fell down. He absolutely did.
01:01:25This is when your friends convince you you're really good, really talented.
01:01:28And oh, God, dude, don't do it. Oh, no.
01:01:31Oh, jeezum. One more time.
01:01:36Please. What happened? Did he just bail before he even started?
01:01:41That kid's got a family. Oh, God.
01:01:46Oh, dude, he's lucky. That could have been way worse.
01:01:49And that is why, as this guy says, you got to wear a helmet.
01:01:54Now, like any other sport, even riding a scooter can be dangerous.
01:01:59So remember, we clearly wear your helmet and pads.
01:02:03And that helmet will keep you from doing dumb things like this.
01:02:10Oh, my God. Did he just jump over somebody that wasn't wearing a helmet
01:02:16and then decided to take it to the trampoline? Yes.
01:02:19Yes, he did. These kids are hooligans.
01:02:22Well, we were hooligans, too,
01:02:23because I think this might remind you of a certain somebody we knew from back in the day.
01:02:29This kid is going to scooter.
01:02:31Well, from an unusual location.
01:02:37No, don't do it. He scooted out of a tree.
01:02:42That is just ridiculous. Now, who else do you remember from our past?
01:02:45You have to tell the story of came out of a tree.
01:02:49Oh, dude, super ultra mega Tony Orlando.
01:02:53Yeah, he was a I don't even remember how we found him.
01:02:57He was a friend of a friend of a friend of some kind.
01:03:00And it was his like first day with us wrestling in the backyard part of the backyard Federation.
01:03:05So he wanted to impress us with how crazy he was going to be.
01:03:09And what did he do? So he decided he decided the big tree in the backyard.
01:03:14We've been up at a bit, you know, from a ladder standpoint.
01:03:17He said screw the ladder. I'm climbing to the top of the tree.
01:03:20So let's do found the most unsafe branch ever
01:03:25and just lunged off the branch and just dropped a leg drop.
01:03:30Dude. He had to be what 22 23 feet in the air
01:03:32and just crash down onto these used mattresses and knock the wind out of himself.
01:03:38The opponent rolled out of the way like in like a minute before he jumped.
01:03:43It was brutal. But from that point on we knew super ultra mega Tony Orlando.
01:03:48He's in he's extreme with that many adjectives describing him.
01:03:53He had to be and he was super. Yeah, ultra and he was mega
01:03:57and super ultra mega Tony Orlando.
01:04:01The funniest thing too is he's trying to impress the two of us and he does it.
01:04:04We're laughing so hard and burying him in commentary about how stupid that was.
01:04:11I think we were just so happy that we had that on film.
01:04:13Honestly, because you just see him come and crash it down.
01:04:15You like you go for an elbow drop. Is he trying to do a swanton a centon?
01:04:19Wait a leg drop. He's going to kill himself.
01:04:22But first, but first lands on the cot lands on his tailbone knocks the wind out of himself.
01:04:29He was dude. He was down for a while.
01:04:31These aren't like King sized or even Queen size matches.
01:04:34These are like single no edge for like,
01:04:37I don't know 70 bucks that you put in like a six writers room.
01:04:42They're pulled up to the side of super worn out.
01:04:45Just the Springs are gone and um,
01:04:47and dude, he I couldn't believe I was like he won ass first.
01:04:54He had a super ultra mega injury.
01:04:59Yeah, he did. Absolutely. The music we've heard today.
01:05:04How would you describe it?
01:05:06Dude, it's definitely is definitely pop punk.
01:05:09It's very good Charlotte some 41 just you know,
01:05:15that kind of that kind of vibe that kind of era but knockoff right?
01:05:19You can't totally clear those songs.
01:05:21You need something that sounds like it
01:05:24and I call this the my parents don't understand me.
01:05:27I'm so edgy genre of music.
01:05:29So let's hear the best of please.
01:05:35Turn up the stereo. Yeah.
01:05:38Yeah radio. I love that word.
01:05:45I can hear the wheels. Reminds me of you.
01:05:49Sounds like it comes out of my iPod or to school.
01:05:53Scooter what?
01:05:57Oh, there he goes. I love like the not the like professionally shot ones.
01:06:03I like the homemade videos. There's more room for disaster.
01:06:13Look at that wheelie bro. And then some Christian rock right here.
01:06:16Sounds like Creed. It kind of does.
01:06:21You have to do the hand with razor scooter.
01:06:27It's razor razor razor video magazine.
01:06:32What sense does that make because if you're so into video magazine,
01:06:37yeah, it's a back in the day before you could host short form videos.
01:06:42You sent out a cassette tape every month.
01:06:45So the in-depth article is just skate montages scooter montages actually with these.
01:06:52I think they had to pad out the timing.
01:06:54So as you saw there's like scooters,
01:06:57but then there's like skateboards then there's like bike tricks and it's like,
01:07:03okay. Well, what does those all have to do with each other?
01:07:05What are we doing here? Yeah, it's almost like the and one mixtape.
01:07:11Yes, it was all just, you know, a collage of different moves
01:07:14and games from across the you know country different players
01:07:18or different scooters. That's even a word.
01:07:22But this was like the like an and one mixtape of just like scooter tricks.
01:07:27Well, yeah, you got to get you coming out next.
01:07:30It's the professor. You gotta have scooter celebrities.
01:07:33Now this next one. I called this baby.
01:07:35Hoobastank. Okay.
01:07:49Dude, as soon as he hits the track, the hump comes in.
01:07:52This makes me want to buy a scooter. Baby third eye blind.
01:07:57Oh God, was that tricycle?
01:08:07Yep. This is baby blink 182.
01:08:13Oh dude, it totally is. That's a sweet bike.
01:08:18See, why is it bicycle tricks on this tape?
01:08:20I almost I almost bought a bike yesterday.
01:08:24Well now you've got to buy one now so you can do these tricks.
01:08:27Yeah, either that or the scooter. Oh,
01:08:30I mean, it's a great form of transportation as we've learned.
01:08:33Now we have baby Dottrey.
01:08:41What is that thing? That is not a scooter.
01:08:44Now on a scooter magazine show
01:08:47when they're trying to promote a hot new artist.
01:08:50What do they sound like?
01:08:52What do you think this hot new artist sounds like?
01:08:55Sounds like Alien Ant Farm or something.
01:08:58Well, this is the band Sluggo and they're famous
01:09:01for having a song on the XXX Vin Diesel movie soundtrack
01:09:06and the guy definitely sold it like it's Sluggo.
01:09:09Oh, what? I don't know who that is. So are they any good?
01:09:14Long days. Well, if it's in that movie, that was a big movie.
01:09:18Jay, are you okay? Are you okay?
01:09:21Dude, they're rock and roll those guys.
01:09:23And then what is this thing?
01:09:26This is the Razor scooter we need in Portland, Maine.
01:09:29One that one that treads in snow.
01:09:32This was my absolute favorite song just based on the lyrics.
01:09:36I don't know why this was made,
01:09:38but I love it.
01:09:41It's like a snowboard with candles.
01:09:48My mom.
01:10:00Three, two, one. And lastly, to keep scooter momentum going,
01:10:04what do you got to do? You got to innovate, right?
01:10:06Being a Razor scooterist is all about innovation.
01:10:10So can you understand this product that they were trying to push?
01:10:15Probably not. What's the difference between me and you?
01:10:19Aw, dude, look at the Discman. Anti-skip.
01:10:23So this kid sees the new product from Razor.
01:10:26It's called the Screamer. The Screamer?
01:10:33That's when the police show up.
01:10:36Somebody help this poor kid.
01:10:39It's like a tricycle by Razor.
01:10:42All right, so he has a meltdown over it,
01:10:44but then he doesn't want it, doesn't walk in the store,
01:10:46doesn't look at it anymore.
01:10:49I don't know that I'd buy something called the Scream Machine.
01:10:53So then maybe you want something built by alien life forms,
01:10:58as this commercial implies.
01:11:00Yeah. UFO lookout post.
01:11:07What is this thing? Oh, Jack, look, we don't found one.
01:11:11What the hell is that? The Power Wing. The Power Wing by Razor.
01:11:18They can't even see the UFOs behind them.
01:11:24You know what's weird? I capped this commercial,
01:11:28watched it, pulled it,
01:11:29and I didn't even realize that there was a freaking alien behind them
01:11:32anytime until you just said that.
01:11:35Yeah, I think that was kind of the joke. I was kind of caught up.
01:11:37Oh, yeah, there's no UFOs out here.
01:11:39But dude, that Power Wing looks pretty dope.
01:11:42Now, this is just a prime example of when a company has like,
01:11:45you know, one super successful item and they're like, you know what?
01:11:50We're going to introduce every type of transportation.
01:11:54Just give it a crazy name.
01:11:56That is just a tricycle. It is just a tricycle.
01:12:00I don't like that one either. I don't like any of these innovations.
01:12:03Like, obviously, like you said, we were too old to really care about a motor.
01:12:08So this one right here, again, didn't do anything for me.
01:12:12All right. So back in the day, obviously, old school.
01:12:15You're making fun of your own product.
01:12:18So this guy's riding it back and forth.
01:12:22Yeah. I don't know, but I hate him.
01:12:28That's Tommy Hoover.
01:12:32Dude, that thing is so whack. I'm out.
01:12:34And this one might be the worst of them all.
01:12:37Don't tell me this one has a motor on it, too.
01:12:40I really don't understand the point of this thing at all.
01:12:41I hate his design. Now, the host in this video,
01:12:45I found amazing because she can't even hide how much this thing sucks.
01:12:50And you've been there, right? See, wait.
01:12:52Well, I thought I thought he was the host and he was trying to sell her.
01:12:56Oh, no, he's the salesman. Okay, let's see this here.
01:12:59You've been in this situation, right? Yeah.
01:13:00I mean, you got you got to try to convince somebody
01:13:02that either where you are is the most happening place
01:13:05and you need to be here or like, you know, example,
01:13:09I just I'm doing remotes now every Friday called food truck Fridays.
01:13:13I'm giving away a hundred bucks of hot cash.
01:13:15We're all around Nashville and the other, you know, surrounding towns.
01:13:19And so far we've visited some really cool food trucks,
01:13:24but I'm sure along the way there's going to be one where I'm like,
01:13:27and this one's kind of not really what I hoped it would be.
01:13:30But guess what? On the air. It's the most amazing place.
01:13:34That's selling the most amazing product, right? Being a professional.
01:13:37Can she pull it off? Damn right. Give it a give it.
01:13:41I'm going to tell you right here. Give it a push first.
01:13:43Wait, what the hell? Where'd they get this Mars?
01:13:47Oh, watch my bike. Take out that guy's bike.
01:13:51She has no idea how to use this thing.
01:13:55Oh, God. Oh, God. I'm losing my mind.
01:13:58She's going to take out the whole. Can she get round?
01:14:01So what you like you push side to side here. Is that how it goes?
01:14:04I think I've seen these. She hates this.
01:14:07It seems like a freaking workout. She absolutely excellent.
01:14:10Huh? Yeah, that's what I would have said.
01:14:14Wait, why don't why don't you show us?
01:14:17She's like trying to do her best and she's like, please cut this in editing.
01:14:21I sound so out of breath. I'm not dressed for it. Look at those pants.
01:14:25I want to know how does this one fold up though? Because they're like the
01:14:29I think what we're learning throughout this process today,
01:14:31Joe, is the like original razor scooter kind of model.
01:14:37Like it's just it's basic and it just gets the job done.
01:14:41All this other stuff is just like super gimmicked, right?
01:14:44It's very gimmicked. I think like once you hit the perfect design,
01:14:48every modification kind of takes away from it.
01:14:51I don't like I don't want to sit. I don't want a third wheel.
01:14:54The original concept is fine.
01:14:58It is just make a good product. So she's going to try it again.
01:15:04Well, I've got all the kit on so I know I'm going to be safe.
01:15:08Okay, now she's doing the all right,
01:15:10but it has a motor but you're pushing it anyway.
01:15:14Yeehaw! Boring! Add in the chance, Joe.
01:15:21Boring, boring.
01:15:25I know and that is almost what I would say the razor scooter turned out to be.
01:15:30Just a temporary excitement,
01:15:32but then after a certain point you're like, what else?
01:15:36It was it was pretty quick too. They were like it was super hot
01:15:41and now that now that you know, we've grown,
01:15:43you know a bit older here we can kind of start to recognize all of these fads
01:15:49and I just remember being a kid
01:15:51and being being told all that's just a fad.
01:15:54You're not even going to want that in another six months
01:15:57and it's like you can't even fathom what that even means.
01:16:00You're always going to want this like the yo mega brain yo-yo.
01:16:04Which is still pretty cool to me because I'm a nerd
01:16:07and they're just cool, but I don't go out of my way to buy them
01:16:11and like same with a razor scooter.
01:16:14I'm not going to go I can I can now openly say yeah,
01:16:17it was a fad but at that time at that age,
01:16:21it was the coolest thing on the whole block.
01:16:24How many Yards Hills in 2005-2006 had fake ramps?
01:16:29It's fake. What the heck the fake rails the scooter itself the backpack everything.
01:16:38Just we got to get it out of the house. Get it out of here.
01:16:41You want this 50 bucks for all of it.
01:16:44You know what I paid it's yours. I paid up to 300 bucks for all this stuff 400.
01:16:49It's crazy because you told me at the peak it sold what 2 million.
01:16:525 million in the first six months of 2000.
01:16:55Okay, 5 million in the first six months, right?
01:16:59Nobody was riding these things like two three years later.
01:17:02So you so you have to think they either got handed down to your younger brother sister.
01:17:07What you know, what have you or like you said,
01:17:10they all just got mass auctioned off at yard sales
01:17:14and it was just we don't I you don't really even see him anymore.
01:17:19Well, but they're still for sale.
01:17:21You can you you can come across them in stores,
01:17:23but you don't see kids out riding them around.
01:17:25It's kind of one of those things like the fat still there
01:17:28and they'll keep selling it forever and ever because there is a market.
01:17:32But if you were to point out to the kids now like back in the day people would kill for this thing
01:17:39and you could barely keep them in stock
01:17:40and they'd look at it being like there is nine of them on that shelf right now
01:17:44and it's not even touchscreen. Nobody nobody cares about it.
01:17:48It's fully in stock. It's there. It doesn't have this on it.
01:17:51It doesn't do that. Yeah, but I think if I did go,
01:17:55yeah, I think if I did go get one it would just be nostalgia just to be like,
01:18:00yeah, I'm going to cruise around on this for a bit
01:18:03and then maybe film something with it and then it's it's gone.
01:18:07Yes, you would definitely do like we're doing today.
01:18:10You're going to stop in you're going to reflect about razor
01:18:13and then you get a part and well, that's it.
01:18:16Hey, thanks for the memories.
01:18:19Thanks for the memories and the razor scooters and all the knockoffs too.
01:18:24Hey, you know what they say about the radical racer.
01:18:27It is just as good if you ask Shelly that no trust me management knows they know they know the team
01:18:36that yes, trust me this one is better
01:18:39because I could get you the scooter I could get you the knee pads
01:18:42and the helmet for the price of what just the razor scooter would cost.
01:18:47So who's the winner now plus was razor scooter radical?
01:18:52Maybe but it didn't say so on the box.
01:18:55No, I would have rather yeah,
01:18:56Ron one that was radical because that's cool.
01:19:00Yeah, you were riding what slightly above average scooter.

01:19:08No, it just in the razor font like on that on that part where the you know stamp is for the name.
01:19:14Just said scooter. I think maybe it's time for Tim to come out
01:19:19and let you know that he built this from stuff that he found on Big Trash Day
01:19:23and he made his own scooter.
