00:00Two questions. How bad does it suck for horse racing that this Mott and Sovereignty are gigantic peas and not running in this race? You're a pea. That guy, you're a pea. That's all there is to it.
00:16And then when is horse racing going to get their act together and spread these things out a month each? What is so hard about doing that instead of giving us this nonsense where you ruin the triple crown?
00:31It's a bummer when we have the Kentucky Derby winner and there's a lot of good energy and good vibes. And this year it was Bill Mott, who is like a longtime, really respected trainer, the rider, the jockey who won. It was a really good moment.
00:44He got his first Derby. And then right afterwards, when they announced in the coming day, in the following days, that they're not going to be running in the Preakness, it does really put a damper on, I think, on like the folks who maybe aren't the most hardcore fans.
00:59Someone like you, Scott, who's following in particular throughout the triple crown, because that gives a lot of people something to talk about.
01:05I know even with just my friends who don't follow, they ask questions about why isn't that happening and why does the horse not run in the Preakness?
01:12I think some of it has to do, Scott, with the spacing of the races.
01:16You know, the triple crown was always something that was supposed to be really difficult to win because after the Derby, you have to come back in two weeks and run in the Preakness.
01:24And then three weeks later, you have to run in the Belmont.
01:27And as it's kind of been what has happened in horse racing is very similar to what we see happening in all sports, right?
01:34That like load management where they're not playing as often.
01:37You don't see people playing on the back to backs.
01:39You don't see horses running quite as often.
01:42But the thing is, in other sports, you generally will see them come playoff time.
01:47They're forced to do that, right?
01:48They have to do things a little bit differently.
01:50They're going to kind of, you know, be playing through some injuries here and there.
01:54It's always a tricky, like, dance because I absolutely want the horse to run.
01:58You can't really go tell a trainer or an owner what to do with their horse and what they think feels right.
02:03It's just a real bummer, like you said, because we get this good energy coming off the Kentucky Derby.
02:07We had two awesome races, two awesome horses, the Finnish Sovereignty Journalism.
02:13We gave you that exacto right here, too.
02:14We're feeling all good about it.
02:16And then, unfortunately, Sovereignty is not going to run.
02:18Sovereignty Journalism.
