00:16It's time to buy or sell. It's stock up, stock down, on The Drive, with Sterner and Hughley.

00:28That's right, every hump day right here on The Drive with Sterner and Hughley.

00:33A little stock up, stock down, with a different flavor each week.

00:37Today we got a Rockets 2025 off-season edition.

00:41Of course, the Houston Rockets, well, their season has come to an end at the hand of the Warriors, those turds.

00:47We'll get to the turds on Thursday.

00:49But a little Rockets off-season edition, stock up, stock down.

00:53I want to start with you, Ron, of the show Hughley.

00:55Today, I take it to heart.

00:59I'm all about personal growth, taking yourself out of your comfort zone.

01:03So I'm going to start with the positives today.

01:07So stock up for you, Ron, the show as the Rockets enter this off-season.

01:11I think my stock up here, and I see some people texting in theirs, is Reed Shepard.

01:16You look at clearly what they are struggling at.

01:22The arrows pointed up.

01:23Is what is his best skill right now.

01:27And it is almost surprising that he didn't find his way on the floor with how much they struggled with outside shooting.

01:36That can't be the case.

01:37You're not the number three overall pick and then start getting opportunities.

01:40You can't be the number three overall pick.

01:44Your specialty and the thing that got you most there is your ability to shoot the basketball.

01:50And you be on a team that struggles like hell shooting the basketball and not get an opportunity in year two.

01:56So I think that's got to be a priority for Emei Udoka and the rest of the Rockets staff.

02:01That Reed Shepard become a bigger part.

02:04And in the rotation at the very least.

02:06Because they desperately need shooting.

02:08He is this team's probably most natural shooter even right now.

02:15Got to be looking at that like, oh yeah, they need my ass.

02:19As them bad boys just keep clanking.

02:22So Reed Shepard to me, stock up.

02:25You talk about a guy that, I mean, not one minute in the playoffs that mattered.

02:32That mattered and somehow the, the, the, uh, so we're on the show.

02:42Hughley stock up this week is, uh, the young Reed Shepard, the good Shepard.

02:46Now over to you, Clint Sterner.

02:48What is your stock up for the off season for these young Rockets?

02:52It's, it's, it's easy for me, man.

02:54I think stock up is, is Alpy Shingun, man.

02:56I, it's, it's, obviously he was an all-star throughout the year.

03:00Um, played, played a ton of minutes.

03:03I'm so happy.

03:03Um, but then you look when he got to the playoffs, uh, regardless of the production.

03:08I know he had some big nights.

03:10Um, I know in the 2024, 25, uh, season in the postseason averages, I mean, my man, my

03:20man was, was over 11, damn near 12 rebounds a game, damn near five and a half, uh, assist

03:26a game.

03:27And from a points perspective, he was over 20 points a game.

03:30Um, could it be better?

03:32Sure.

03:32But for the first stretch in the playoffs, the production was good, but I tell you what was

03:36even better was just how he bowed his neck.

03:37Um, the moment was never too big.

03:40Uh, the fight was consistent for seven games, um, and never backed down one moment.

03:46And I, I think, I think he arrived.

03:48I think he made a name for himself in, in, in the NBA, um, as one of the, the, the real

03:54hot risers in the NBA, if you will, guys to look out for.

03:57And so I, I think Alpy Shingun just, um, is on a whole different level right now after

04:03that, that series.

04:05Held Draymond after the game, after the series said that, that Alfred Shingun, uh, never

04:12backed down, never backed up, had a lot of respect for him and, and every step of the

04:19way.

04:19Yeah.

04:19I think he walks into this year with the thought and knowing like, I'm like, at least

04:26right now, this is, I'm the guy.

04:27Yeah.

04:28Like I, I think right now there is a level of confidence that he is going to gain.

04:32Like when we start talking about his bad game is 21, 14 and five, like we start talking

04:38about that as a game, like there, there is, there has got to be some major, major confidence

04:45that he got from coming from this playoff.

05:09Stock down to me is Cam Whitmore.

05:12Um, he picked two guys and ain't touch the floor, huh?

05:17And, and Reed Shepard's one thing, I, you know, that that's one thing.

05:22Cam Whitmore wasn't even touching the floor when he brought in, when he brought in players

05:27in, when it was over, like he didn't get mop up.

05:30They weren't even going to give him mop up duty.

05:31Right.

05:32And there are many people on the text line and I can understand it.

05:37Like, Hey, how come they just won't give, you know, him just a couple of minutes, some

05:42run.

05:42He's athletic.

05:43He's, you know, he can score.

05:45He, you know, why, why wouldn't he steal a few minutes?

05:49And there is clearly a lack of trust.

05:53There is clearly a lack of.

05:58Or whether it's coming from him or the, or the coach's staff, whatever, clearly they don't

06:04view him as somebody that many people would think, Hey man, he at least should get 10,

06:09you know, 10 minutes, right?

06:11Like at least reads a rookie.

06:12He's, he's played, he's played in, in games.

06:14And when you see him, he's lit up the scoreboard from time to time.

06:17Again, I honestly believe stock is down.

06:19Hell.

06:20I think, I think he is most definitely going to be included in any kind of a trade that

06:27this team may make to go get one of those pieces.

06:30And your stock can't be any like Reed Shepard's not going anywhere.

06:34He is.

06:35He's probably one of the prime people that's going to be involved in a trade.

06:39Yeah.

06:39It's a hard to, uh, hard to argue with that.

06:42I mean, he couldn't, he couldn't get my book duty.

06:44Yeah.

06:44There's gotta, there's gotta be some level of like him and him and, and, and, and

06:48M.A.

06:48Doka just don't see eye to eye.

06:50Like there's gotta be some, which both of those guys, by the way, they, they appear to

06:54be.

06:54And I'm, I'm strictly, I'm strictly going off of what I, the facial expressions, the body

06:58language I see on TV, both of those guys seem to be real.

07:02How about you F off type guys?

07:04Neither one of them seem to be guys that are going to put up a match.

07:06He may say, I don't even want you to get cardio.

07:09Yeah.

07:09Hard, hard to argue with a young Cam Whitmore being your stock down.

07:18Well, the, the, the lowest hanging fruit of the stock down group.

07:22It is, uh, it's Jalen Green.

07:24I just, I mean, you're talking about a guy that before the series started is,

07:27I mean, you're, you're, you're, uh, I mean, just a decent playoff series against

07:33Golden State away from being, um, from a guy that they continue to build around in

07:40Houston that they believe in because they, damn it, they want to, they want too bad.

07:44He made Doka and Raphael Stone.

07:46They want to, um, but you, I mean, you are literally a, just a decent series away from

07:51that to, I mean, he's got to be the centerpiece of, of the, the block.

07:57Blockbuster trade that is in the future of the Rockets before next season starts.

08:02It's destroyed his trade value.

08:04It's bad, bad.

08:05It's not bad enough that he went out there and did what he did himself in his own game.

08:10It's also to a point that so many guys that are young and around his age have just gone

08:20off in the playoffs.

08:21We're watching Tyrese Halliburton.

08:23You, I mean, Jalen green has far more natural talent than that guy.

08:29He is nowhere on that level.

08:31He scored 19, but nowhere on that level.

08:36No chance.

08:37Even Anthony Edwards.

08:38We saw Anthony Edwards score one point.

08:40He was old for 10 though, in the half, right?

08:43Like he, and he, he went on like, it's just other young guys that play a guard guard position

08:49and that are young in his age range that are skyrocketing.

08:53And he's scoring seven and eight.

08:56Yeah.
