It's time to buy or sell.
00:02
It's time to sell!
00:04
It's Texan Stock Up, Stock Down on the Drive with Sterner and Hughley.
00:10
I'm going to pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers in this racket.
00:14
The bell again.
00:16
I love this damn bell. I know you do.
00:18
That's right. It's Stock Up, Stock Down, Texan style.
00:22
Do it every Wednesday here on the Drive with Sterner and Hughley.
00:25
Right around 3.20, 3.25pm.
00:28
It is simple. It's where we take a peek into the Texans market of sorts.
00:32
Then Ron and Clint are going to tell you which Texans they're buying stock in,
00:36
the ones they're liking, what they see,
00:38
and what Texans players, if any, that stock is plummeting.
00:42
And it's not looking good on the film and otherwise.
00:44
So, let's get it rolling.
00:46
We're in our Wolf of Wall Street here.
00:49
Texan Stock Up.
00:52
Let's start with some positivity in the spirit of D'Amico Ryans, the Texans head coach.
00:56
Positivity. Week 11 Texan Stock Up.
00:59
We're on the show, Hughley.
01:01
Tell me what or who or which Texans players you are buying stock in heading into week 11.
01:07
Thank you. It's just Ron.
01:09
I want to say Jarrett Patterson.
01:13
I say that because, listen,
01:18
this offensive line has been historic in how bad they have been when it comes to pass protection.
01:25
The last several weeks.
01:27
It started with the Packer game, which was bad.
01:31
Got worse with the Colts.
01:33
It got bad to the tune of 8 sacks and 11 hits with the Jets.
01:38
And there was some changes.
01:40
They brought him in for a drive when Kenyon Green got hurt.
01:44
Probably the best drive they had all game, maybe in a couple of games.
01:48
And then he started, not at guard like he did when he came in for Kenyon,
01:52
but started at center.
01:53
And we heard D'Amico talk about him and his communication with the Colts.
01:57
We felt like it would be a thing that would be helpful.
02:00
That's what he said.
02:01
And they moved Juice to guard who had played there before.
02:05
But with him going in at center, Clint, even though, yes, they gave up four sacks.
02:10
And, I mean, it ain't, you know, great yet.
02:13
Clearly the Lions had a much better offensive line.
02:17
But it was much, much better.
02:19
And it seemed like the communication up front was better.
02:22
It didn't seem like the Lions were trying a lot of stuff.
02:27
Just didn't see just gaping, just guys just coming in free and missing.
02:32
And I will give credit to the center, Jarrett Patterson,
02:35
as he stepped in to see this offensive line and pass protection in particular.
02:40
Now, run blocking, that was rough.
02:42
They took several steps back with that.
02:44
But in terms of what the big problem was, pass protection, it seemed to improve.
02:49
And with him stepping into the center spot, I give him credit.
02:52
His stock is going up.
02:54
I couldn't agree more, Ron. Jarrett Patterson's money.
02:56
That's a big-time run defense.
02:58
That's not just been really good and statistically good,
03:01
but they're literally designed to stop the run
03:06
in the way that they game plan and call plays to stop the run.
03:09
And so no surprise that we didn't run the ball as well as Joe Mixon has ran the ball.
03:14
But Jarrett Patterson was absolutely tremendous
03:16
when it comes to the communication and giving this team a better chance to win,
03:22
play in, play out, whether it was run or pass.
03:25
And so I agree with him in that.
03:27
Him being – and we'll see how they fare against a better defensive front,
03:32
but him getting in there and communicating better and being more reliable,
03:37
that is definite stock up for Jarrett Patterson.
03:40
I love it.
03:41
There you go.
03:42
Ronald Hughley rolling with the big man Patterson for his stock up.
03:47
Let's get the former NFL quarterback stock up here for the Houston Texans
03:52
as they prepare for Week 11 Monday Night Football in Dallas.
03:55
Dirty Red Clint Starner, which Texans, if any, are you buying stock in right now?
04:01
John Mechie.
04:02
Yeah.
04:03
John Mechie for me.
04:04
Oh, yeah.
04:06
I mean, looking really good when the opportunity was given to him,
04:12
whether you're talking about late in the preseason when he ended on a strong note,
04:16
or you're talking about, you know, the last handful of games
04:20
where the Texans have been without Nico, without Diggs,
04:22
and they've had to depend on John Mechie.
04:24
I think John Mechie, whether he's catching the football
04:26
or CJ missed him a couple of times, depending on what game you're watching,
04:29
he is winning at all levels of the field.
04:31
He's winning in the red zone.
04:33
He's winning in the quick game on critical drives.
04:35
He appears to be very quarterback friendly from that perspective.
04:40
And so John Mechie for me, we've gone from I don't think he's ready,
04:45
I don't know if he can play at this level.
04:47
And I mean play.
04:48
He could be on a roster.
04:49
I mean, I don't know if he could be a difference maker at the NFL level.
04:53
I've gone from that to watching this dude play,
04:56
and last week it all came to a head for me Sunday night
04:59
where I believe John Mechie is a good fill-in,
05:04
I don't mean good, like a really good fill-in
05:07
for the No. 3 receiver with the Houston Texans.
05:11
Yeah, let's see if he can continue to maybe put some more together.
05:15
Yeah, yeah.
05:16
That's the key.
05:17
Can he come out and do it again?
05:18
Because he's going to get the opportunities.
05:19
Mm-hmm.
05:20
He's going to get the opportunities.
05:21
All right, Patterson and John Mechie,
05:23
those are your stock ups for the Houston Texans right now.
05:26
According to Clint Sterner and we're on the show hugely.
05:28
Thank you for just tuning in.
05:29
This is The Drive with Sterner and Hughley.
05:31
It's Texans stock up and stock down for week 11.
05:35
And let's stick with you, Dirty Red, right here.
05:38
Okay.
05:39
I want to hear now maybe these Texan are these Texans
05:43
that just ain't living up to stock down for the Houston Texans right now.
05:49
Well, for me it's Titus Howard.
05:51
And, you know, not to pile on Titus.
05:54
Strip sacking his own quarterback?
05:56
I mean, that's just the cherry on top, right?
05:58
But the reality of it is, Ron, if you remember correctly,
06:01
last week before the Sunday night game,
06:03
one of my takeaways on Tape Drop Tuesday was, yes,
06:07
there are guys getting beat in pass protection that have to be corrected.
06:10
But for some reason, Titus Howard is so soft at the tackle position,
06:14
just allowing the DNs to push him into the lap of the quarterback,
06:17
that it's shrinking the pocket.
06:19
So the level of let's just call it a technique and a fundamental.
06:24
Like whatever he was trying to execute there
06:28
was allowing defensive linemen to push him into the lap.
06:30
So I was worried about Titus Howard before all this went down.
06:34
And then this week when I watched Titus Howard, it's multiple times.
06:37
It's not just when he's trying to strip the quarterback and he quit on that play.
06:41
But the level of quit, the inability to strain,
06:45
and when I say strain, try to move mass regardless,
06:49
frontside, backside, pulling, blocking down, doesn't matter to me.
06:53
Your job, like the fundamental components of your position
07:01
is all about moving mass.
07:05
The unwillingness or inability to do that
07:07
and even try to do it on a consistent basis,
07:10
for me, I'm selling my Titus Howard stock
07:13
and I'm damn sure not buying any more, boys.
07:15
That's laid out pretty beautifully.
07:17
And I think a lot of people would agree with you
07:19
on Titus Howard stock down for the Houston Texans right now.
07:22
Ron?
07:23
I'm seeing Titus a lot here on the team.
07:26
Yeah, hands agree with Clint Sterner.
07:28
Ron Hugley, Texans stock down as we head into week 11 in Dallas.
07:33
Yeah, mine goes to Nick Cacerea.
07:38
Ooh.
07:40
I think Titus Howard, I think he can take a part in that.
07:44
First time we got somebody not wearing pads.
07:47
I think he can take some part in that.
07:49
Even with obviously the ones like Titus or Kenyon Green
07:58
or any of those others, it's more of the like,
08:01
hey, you've had a lot of injuries
08:03
and you got yourself in a situation where you let go of a corner
08:09
and now you got to bring him back
08:11
and you felt like you were short a corner
08:13
when Kamari Lassiter got hurt and you're playing less then.
08:19
You know, like the feelings of the people you brought in
08:23
to maybe back up certain guys
08:25
and the situation you're in with your offensive line
08:27
and not having, you know, better places to turn
08:31
when you knew that at least it was on the table
08:34
that a guy like a Kenyon Green could struggle
08:36
and you didn't have that really on the table
08:39
as somebody to come and help the running back situation.
08:43
We're sitting here and there's no real backup running back
08:45
and Daria Gumboala has to be on the field
08:47
and you had one in Kam
08:50
and you traded him away for nothing.
08:52
You didn't really make any moves to help your team at the deadline
08:57
while everybody else around you
08:59
felt like they were able to find a way to make moves.
09:02
Right now, just with some of the important moves
09:07
or lack thereof, it is not looking good.
09:11
A lot of the issues that the Texans are having
09:14
are personnel issues.
09:16
And a lot of that comes and falls at the feet of Nick Casario.
09:20
Hopefully this doesn't mean that we can't get frozen yogurt.
09:23
Still might not be. Still hoping to do that.
09:26
But right now, I think my stockdown goes with Nick Casario
09:30
when you see a lot of the personnel problems
09:33
that the Texans are facing.
