00:00A historic milestone has been reached by writer-director Nia DaCosta.

00:05She is the first black female director to have a film debut in the number one spot in the U.S. box office with Candyman.

00:12She co-wrote the sequel to the original 1992 horror film with Jordan Peele,

00:17casting all black leads and addressing elements of racism throughout the film.

00:21The movie is also the second highest grossing three-day opening for a black female director right behind Ava DuVernay for A Wrinkle in Time.

00:29Candyman is currently in theaters.

00:31I saw a tweet that was really funny about Candyman, and it's true.

00:36It's like Candyman is a reasonable person.
