01:16mayor of all of dalton but tonight tiffany henyard the mayor of dalton illinois is struggling to silence

01:22for an investigation into how she spends public money now we'll be victorious when all the dust

01:35i will be cleared calling for an outside investigation into her alleged misuse of

01:41public funds calling for an investigation of mayor tiffany henyard this after the village board late

01:47last month called for the fbi the u.s attorney and the cook county sheriff to investigate the

01:53villages finances which trustees say the mayor is keeping under wraps while spending lavishly we cannot

01:59continue to stand for millions of dollars being wasted on trips and things that do not benefit the

02:04community kiana belcher is one trustee calling for that investigation what is it that you all say

02:10she's spending public money on we have not received a financial report since september of 2023

02:16she alleges that last year the mayor racked up a million dollars in police overtime for her own

02:23personal detail so a million dollars spent on cops for her for her listen man in this town in illinois

04:49getting paid um no the person is not getting paid it was 122 banners for 19 thousand nine hundred

04:57some dollars nbc news has reached out to mayor hendard who according to nbc chicago also works as

05:02a township supervisor for a neighboring community making a total salary of close to three hundred

05:07thousand dollars a year so far we've received no response wait on monday the mayor alleged its

05:13trustees and other officials who are doing the spending i didn't have no access to any bank account

05:18to make any decisions in our building it was all up to them meanwhile at last check belcher says

05:24this village of 21 000 was seven million dollars in debt yes that number has grown again no response

05:32tonight from mayor hendard but according to her social media she plans to launch a podcast on

05:36friday so we may very well hear more from her then at the same time the chicago tribune is reporting the

05:42fbi is in the preliminary stages of an investigation into the village's finances we reached out to the

05:48agency ourselves and they declined to comment so it's a tiny little village of just like 20 something

05:53thousand people did they say she makes 300 000 yes because isn't it doesn't the president make like

05:58140 000 or something it's like she makes the same as the president yeah yeah for a tiny town a mayor

06:06like that should be making like 10 20 grand oh my god if anything if anything what's crazy is how

06:12much money could they have for her to spend right but they're in debt so uh mayor chuck just looking

06:18over the budget here there's a lot of money spent on ant farms and fish well if you don't want a mayor

06:25that has his downtime and can really serve the people the way he needs to then you just will
